This was about what we expected fast food teriyaki to be. We ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki but it wasn't spicy at all- I recommend adding the hot sauce to the yum yum sauce. The eggroll was almost mushy inside but it was really crispy outside. The restaurant was clean and not too loud they had a fountain soda machine and a cold case for sushi. The service was ok they were nice but they tried to give us other peoples food and almost insisted that they were correct. I placed a delivery order believing I was ordering from the hibachi restaurant in the same vicinity. When I noticed my order was en route moments after ordering I realized my error. Fast service is great, but my initial expectations weren't for precooked food. When the food arrived it was hot and tasted good. I up-charged for additional shrimp and was glad i made that decision. We paid for shrimp and received 2 chicken teriyaki. When we brought the food and issue back to the counter the employees immediately assumed we were lying and was refusing to fix the mistake on their end. We continued to show the receipt and then the manager finally offered to remake it after inspecting the returned food. By this point I am turned off and disgusted with lack of service , lack of communication and lack of resolve. I requested a refund. We are the other chicks. As a teenage mallrat, I lived off of Sarku - and Sbarro, obviously (just the S's for me, thank you very much!). Seeing them migrate from the dying mall infrastructure which was once a sign of the excesses of American capitalism, and slowly settle down into outdoor avenue-style shopping centers - which often replaced dying malls - has been a treat. I don't have to park and walk across the entire parking lot of a mall to get some Sarku, which is great since I'm now old and my knees hurt sometimes! This is pretty generic Japanese American stuff - tons of teriyaki and bento box lunch choices, of course. Most come served with some cabbage or lettuce along with rice or noodles. I rather like the chicken teriyaki here - it's not going to blow your mind, but it does the job. This specific location has never let me down - I've gone there while working in the area a few times, as well as whatever time I first checked-in there. Ahhh! Makes you wanna pull your hair out. We just waited 25 minutes for my son's food. Major communication error between order takers and those preparing the food. Another customer waited longer and proceeded to argue because her order was wrong when finally done. They are taking phone orders when they are completely overwhelmed and not able to handle in person customers. Food was decent when order was finally ready. Maybe staffers called out today, but there needs to be a protocol in place to avoid so many unhappy customers. read more

Okay so they have a whole new crew in there but they are all Mexican. And I in no way mean that in a way racist way, but I think that speaking only in Spanish around non-Spanish speaking customers is a bit unprofessional. Because when people can't under what you are they assume the worst. And I say this as a Cuban woman who speaks Spanish, I say that to say this, most would probably assume I don't speak Spanish but I do and I understand all the sh** talking they were doing. Also, I visited Sarku Japan on 2/8 and the guy that grabs the trays and puts the lid has horrible customer service! He grabs my food and puts the lid on then starts literally leaning on my container while my other meal was being cooked. Then after he gives me my food I say "thank you" twice and never once got a your welcome or any pleasantries. That is one of my pet peeves because really your suppose to thank the customer. And to top it off this guy was sick! I didn't know that before he started boxing the food when he was walking to the back he had a horrible cough. Absolutely horrible service to start with. Everyone is standing around doing absolutely nothing. I came in to get sushi and everything was brick cold. I asked if I could be done fresh and I was told NO. With absolutely no one in the store the customer service was awful the manager was awful and the rest of the team didn't know what was going on. No one wants to eat cold food it's unacceptable. They told me that's the company policy but I know that is not the truth. At least three people told me they will never go back because the food is not good. This is the only location that has awful tasting food. Even in the past when I got steak and shrimp the rice was soft almost mushy. The taste was awful. I will never be time to this location again. Shame on the manager to be honest. We've always liked Sarku Japan as one of the food court establishments and we decided to give this stand-alone Sarku Japan a try. The interior is like a fast food restaurant, slightly more stylish. There is definitely some ventilation problem though, the moment I stepped inside I can smell quite a smoke from the cooking. I understand it is hard to keep the smell off as so much stir-frying is happening back there, but you really wouldn't want the dining area to smell like a kitchen. As for food, waiting time is decent, not as fast as the mall version, but food is plated better. Meat is delicious as always, I love their chicken and shrimp, and the option to boost their amount is quite cheap. The veggies are horrible though, I remembered those to be better for my mall visits--the veggies I had was over-boiled and tasted very bland. Anyway, not a bad option for a quick bite after shopping nearby, plus price is so reasonable, I wouldn't complain much. You can also download their app and order online to avoid waiting. read more

The food at this one was good, but I have had better from other Sarku franchises. A friend and I got there about fifteen minutes before they were closing but still received good customers service. Food was as good as I would expect from a Sarku. Annoyed at the extra charge for fried rice without them telling me because that has never happened to me at a Sarku before. The rice itself had maybe 5-10 peas and tiny square carrot chunks, not worth the extra 50 cent charge. Also, portions are noticeably smaller here than at a mall spot like Towson. When I heard there was a restaurant coming to Owings Mills I was excited. I have to be going there at least once a week and getting a Bento box or chicken and shrimp teriyaki. Not sure of what to say...so I love the teriyaki chicken at Wegmans but it is a bit pricey so I figured I would gamble with Sarku Japan. I immediately noticed the fancy plastic partitioned container and the vibrating discs that they give you when your order is ready. Took the food home, and after the first bite justed stared at the container and regretted not going to wegmans...the food was just bland, the chicken, the noodles, he only thing that I enjoyed was the cabbage. Later that night when I reheated it, it tasted better but not good. Oh, and that cup of sauce that they give you is so salty that it is disgusting...Next time, I will spend the money and enjoy my meal from wegmans read more

Great food but the Security Location gives you more food for your buck, the portions seem smaller. The employee at the register named Taylor was a very unpleasant experience. Bad attitude and she rushed me so when I ordered extra meat I wanted chicken and shrimp but she put it in as only chicken without asking if I wanted extra shrimp also. So when I tell her I want extra shrimp too after she already hastily printed a receipt her attitude only became worse. I hate leaving these kinds of reviews. I got food poisioning!!!! I ate at Sarku Japan Owings Mills for the first time on 7/16/0217 at around 6pm. The food tasted just like it does when I order when in the mall. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken and shrimp teriyaki with white rice and vegetables. I ate the food inside the restaurant, almost all of it. After about an hour at 7pm I began to sweat and have the worst stomach pains and cramps I've ever experienced. Needless to say I had food poisioning!!! I am sorry but I was pretty dissapointed with the spring rolls and the beef bento box. Its a shame because this place is very conveniently located. The outside wrapper of the spring roll was delightfully crispy but the filling was mushy, and there was something in it that tasted chalky.....sorry but a FAIL. I am just glad they were free. Now the bentobox: So the first sign that we were going to have a problem is how quickly they prepared the box, there was no way they freshly cooked and/or prepared any piece of it. the salad and the salad dressing were wonderful but everything else needed help. The sushi was very "fishy" which indicates it was old. I ate one piece and threw the rest out. It is he definition of sushi that it is fresh. If you cant do that do not offer it. The dumplings wrapper was "chewy" and too thick. It also was not freshly fried. The filling did not make any impression on me so I guess it was OK. I did like the noodles alot. The beef was decent but not anything special which was a shame. I did appreciate that there wasnt alot of fat on them and the quality of the beef was good. The bentobox as a whole was a FAIL too. Very Sorry. If you want a very good bento box that is freshly prepared and the sushi is fresh go down the street to the place in Woodholme shopping center. Its just a few miles down the street.
