    Salmon belly
    Cecilia T.

This place is awesome. Hampden has needed a truly good sushi restaurant and it finally has one. The seared salmon belly, which they blow torched right in front of us, was so good I'm still thinking about it days later. Even the super basic yellowtail roll was amazing because the ingredients were so good. And it came out so fast the rice was still warm. The staff is super organized and on top of things and provides good service in addition to great food. The interior has been redone and the vibe is totally different from when it was Souvlaki - it's welcoming and fun. There is a large sushi bar, which is my favorite place to sit so I can watch the sushi being made (dinner and a show!). They also have tables upstairs and an entire dining room in the basement. They also have a great lunch specials menu that I'm planning on trying g this week.

This place is brand new so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're still experiencing some growing pains! Overall though, everything was pretty good. Is it my new favorite sushi spot? Honestly, no but it's not a bad option if you're in the area. The bar is thoughtfully decorated with plenty of seating, including right in front of the sushi counter which is cool. The dining area in the back is spacious and pretty. The bathrooms were super clean and smelled great. There is even a little market section with snacks and drinks - super cute if you're placing an order for takeout. We came in at an off-time on a rainy day for a very late lunch so we were the only people here, plus several staff members. When we arrived, the bartender and food prepper behind the bar both were on their phones and disengaged. Our bartender became attentive after a bit but was much more focused on her friend who stopped by. She wasn't able to tell me anything about the sake menu when I asked which one was on the dry side, so I ended up selecting one myself and still really enjoyed it. The crispy tuna rice cakes were good but a difficult bite given the large size. The seared salmon belly nigiri, a very sweet gift from the owner, was delicious and totally melted in your mouth. Probably the best bite of the whole meal! The yellowtail maki and salmon nigiri was good too but I've had more fresh-tasting sushi elsewhere in Baltimore. I was also happy to know that they have gluten free soy sauce here, for any of my GF readers who might want to check this place out! My boyfriend liked the crab rangoon sticks a lot but his pork belly yakitori and pork belly tonkotsu didn't really blow him away. For the quality of the food, I didn't think it was totally worth the price but this place is a 3.5 to 4 stars in my book. I hope they continue to grow and thrive as they find their footing!

The best sushi in Balitmore hands down. I went on a Sunday afternoon as was pleasantly surprised to see the main chef, owner and bar lead there. It's a stunning place the bar is a sight to see and it's actually quite large and offers a private dining space too for events. This is in the former Souvlaki space on the avenue. It's a large menu with sushi tacos and yakitori. They also have ramen which felt odd but can confirm the tonkotsu is so good. My favorite bite was the seared salmon Aburi. Aburi is not often seen in Balitmore. It's a treat.

Probably the best sushi spot I've tried in Baltimore! So many amazing things on the menu--the tuna crispy rice and tuna belly nigiri were my favorite bites hands down. They just opened so service did get a little slow once they got busier so keep that in mind if you're in a rush. It's also surprisingly bigger than it looks. Highly recommend!

Mouth-watering dishes and great service. We ordered the salmon belly nigiri and yellow tail roll which was phenomenal.

The restaurant replaced Souvlaki. They turned the bar area into a sushi bar. We decided to sit there. The sushi chefs started us off with a complimentary piece of torched salmon with a sauce. I tasted something fishy but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. The calamari tempura was pretty tasty and so was the crispy rice tuna. We ordered the takoyaki and chicken karaage off the happy hour menu (between 3pm-5pm everyday). Both were good and tasty. We also got the chicken thigh robata plus the kalbi. The chicken was more charred but the short rib was better. Our friend got a few tacos. The service was good. We enjoyed our experience here.

Came here with a friend and we sat at the bar. The space itself is really cute, loved the decor and the vibe. We ordered a couple cocktails and chatted with the bartender who was very friendly and helpful with ordering. I got their spin on the French 75 and really enjoyed it, my friend got a Vesper which was also awesome. For food we got a couple apps and a few rolls to share. I really enjoyed all of the food!! The fish was definitely high quality and I thought their fun twists on sushi were both interesting and delicious. I can't remember what the little tacos are called but they were really good!! Crispy rice is also worth getting, you really can't go wrong. Love this new spot on the avenue and I can't wait to return!

The food was absolutely delicious! Everything they brought out was some how better than last. They have an extensive bar program with delicious drinks. And the restaurant itself was absolutely beautiful. Everything at Hana is well thought out and intentional. And all the staff members are incredibly polite and supportive. No complaints here :)

Stopped into Hana for a quick bite before another event we had in the area. It was packed! All the reservations were taken, and somehow they were able to squeeze us in before a reservation at a table. The bar is available for walk-in's but I recommend making a reservation. All the food came out pretty fast. Starting with the crab rangoon sticks, these were fun but definitely not crab rangoon. The crispy tuna rice was flavorful but difficult to eat since it was large but thats a good problem to have! They brought out sesame spinach salad because they ran out of the kimchi. This wasn't anything special but a nice gesture. Last, the star of the show, bluefin toro nigiri was absolutely amazing. It melted in my mouth and was delicious. We both got sake which was served in a wine glass instead of the traditional cups which was disappointing. Overall for the value, I was underwhelmed but we got mostly apps so I am looking forward to trying more things on the menu! Id give it a 3.5.

We decided to check out this new place and we were not disappointed. From first impressions outside to the warm welcome inside, it was a great start! Bartender made great drinks and my dirty martini was on point. The food was delicious!! Sorry I didn't take as many pics but each dish was amazing - miso soup, tempura soft shell starter, Hana roll, a roll that had a spicy Mexican food tasting vibe (can't remember the name) and melt in your mouth sashimi (pic included). Sometimes I feel sushi rolls can start to blend together flavor wise but the distinct difference and flavors in the two we ordered was a refreshing and welcome surprise. We can't wait to try the others! The place got packed quickly on a Friday evening so don't sleep on a reservation. Enjoy and thank you Hana for a great first experience dining with you.

I have never been splashed in the face during the shaking of a drink that was being made by the bartender. The bartender was of a different race and seemed annoyed by my presence from the jump. I had been splashed in the face twice until a customer of his race came and sat next to me. I did pay attention to his behavior while the woman was seated next to me and his drink mixing wasn't as aggressive. I had to go to the bathroom during my visit and told him I would pay before going to the bathroom so he wouldn't make any assumptions about me. I asked him to keep my drink behind the bar because the woman was still seated next to me. I came back and the woman eventually left. I was still finishing my drink and I was splashed 2 additional times. The last time I made him aware of what he was doing. His apology was disingenuous and passive aggressive. I left after this even though I had intentions on ordering desert and listening to the musicians that were about to get started. I did inform the manager about my experience prior to leaving. I'm leaving the review bc the experience still bothers me. If they have cameras at the bar I'm sure my reaction to the splashing can be observed.

I went an hour early before everyone else was supposed to be there to get on the waitlist, but the wait was until 10 pm!! So I quickly switched gears and called Benny's because I've heard great things about them. The gentlemen who answered the phone was so kind, and was able to squeeze us in on the fly on a Saturday night, and they weren't slow. Got there super early because I was already in the area, and my wife and I decided to have an old fashioned and an espresso martini at the bar while we waited and they were excellent. The ambiance was upscale but still managed to be relaxed and comfortable. We had a lovely dinner, the waiter was busy but was still attentive and patient. Our whole experience was awesome, so we were already going back in the future. Yesterday I realized a mistake on my bank account from the bar charge, so I called around 6 pm and spoke to the same gentlemen as before. He got all my info and promised he'd call back in 5 minutes. I didn't really expect 5 minutes because I know how crazy the dinner rush would be at an Italian restaurant with a Wednesday wine special. Not even 3 minutes later he called back, and explained what happened, fixed it and I got a follow up text immediately letting us know the refund was already in process. Now, I've been in the service industry and I was a bartender, so I understand that I'm going to be a little biased here but from beginning to end Benny's went above and beyond. They clearly appreciate their customers and love their work, it shows.
