Crunchy Tuna Roll and Chiyo Roll

Rolls were good, Tigers Eye was an unusual dish and took forever to cook. Weird vibe when you first enter. Getting seating was odd and threw us off. Quite an interesting experience.

Shrimp Tempura, salmon nigiri, and krabbe roll

Chiyo is my go to sushi place. The nigiri is fresh and tastes good. They are the closest in flavor that I've had to the sushi I had in Tokyo. When my nephew wanted to try sushi for the first time, we ordered from here!

So I did something a little different this time. I ordered their sushi/sashimi combo and I honestly wasn't sure what "chef choice" pieces they would give me. I was quite surprised at the octopus. I normally like octopus salad and the octopus wasn't bad, personally I wouldn't get it again in this form.

Truly, I'd give it a 3.5 star rating if I could. I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend who is a huge fan of Chiyo. We were seated upstairs and service was relatively friendly. The menu is absolutely gigantic and overwhelming. The specialty rolls have an incredible amount of variety and if you have no dietary restrictions, you'll be in heaven. I stuck to the more basic maki rolls since I'm gluten free. We ordered... - salmon nigiri - tuna nigiri - eel nigiri (for my date) - yellowtail roll - Nataly roll (vegetable roll) - Yu-ki maki roll (to share) - Lesley roll (for my date) Overall, it was okay. I wouldn't order nigiri here again though. It did not taste fresh and the texture was chewy. The tuna was just... not good. My favorites were the yellowtail roll and the Nataly roll. The flavor was good and the texture was nice and crunchy. They also have tamari sauce in case you can't have soy sauce. That said, we ordered the Yu-ki maki roll to share since it appeared to be gluten free (yellowtail and avocado inside; salmon, scallion and wasabi mayo outside). The server then came back up about 15 minutes later to say the roll wasn't gluten free since it had mayo. I was super confused because mayo is naturally gluten free. She then said it was cause of the wasabi. Again, super confused because wasabi is also naturally gluten free. I asked if they could just put the sauce on the side just in case, but the chef had already made the roll. This was a little disappointing since I did mention needing gluten free accomodations before we even ordered. There also seems to be a lack of understanding of which of their ingredients are truly gluten free. It would be great to see their extensive menu marked with some indications of what is gluten free too. The roll came up to the table and was absolutely drowning in the mayo sauce. Allergies aside, I just didn't even like the roll. It would've been better without the mayo, in my opinion. Even my date, who is a Chiyo stan, said this was a disappointing visit for him. I probably won't be rushing back.

this is me after eating at this restaurant. Its sooo good i was sooo full and was sooooo happy after eating this much food. I ate like 67

I think I found my new favorite sushi spot because I've been there twice in one week and loved it both times! They have soooooo many sushi options for all and are reasonably priced. We did dine in both times and service was a little slow the first time but was much better the second time. Def check them out if you want good local sushi!

So..... what's up with those chairs? Let me tell you. My girlfriend wanted to check this place out. I recalled reading reviews on Yelp and was..... hesitant. But, I love some good sushi. And you can't find it until you find it. The place is very unassuming in a cute area with a few other restaurants I'd like to try in the future. It's like somebody's house was converted into a sushi joint. There's just enough parking. I don't know where you'd park if the parking lot is full. Just don't park in the street (is what I was told). About those chairs. When we entered the front door I could immediately see the sushi chefs behind the bar making rolls. BUT.... you also see what appears to be an assembly line for 'to-go' orders being prepared. They have a table set up in the middle of the room with to-go bowls, bags, etc. And you're blocked from entering the room by 4 chairs lined side by side. Huh? What's going on here I thought to myself. They said the dining room is open. We told them we had a reservation and were told to 'come on'. Just move the chair out of the way. Huh? We were led to the upstairs dining room by one of the employees (I assumed she was an employee, who else would be leading us to our table). Everyone was wearing plain ole street clothes. It was like I came to somebody's house and they were serving me. Weird. We had the place to ourselves and were told Sundays were pretty empty. Now, let's talk about that menu! ...talk about information overload; whoa! They literally have hundreds of rolls. I kid you not! I just had to find something and go with it because I got tired of looking. Variety is good yes, but too much is just..... too much. I got edamame, the double ell roll, sunrise roll, and Maryland roll. I liked the sunrise roll, but REALLY liked the Maryland roll! The crab was fresh! Aside from that.... what I'll say its, been there done that. I can check it off my list. I may order in for those few rolls, but I'll stick to my other spots.

Appetizers are special. Dinner combo includes sashimi and beef teriyaki. It has a good price. The second floor for dine in is cozy. But servers don't always stay at the second floor. Sometimes it is difficult to get the service you want in time

But they are, and they represent sushi oh so powerfully well! From service to food presentation to the food itself. Lawd the food! 100 out of 100! They also carry beverages which you can choose from the glass door refrigerator at the back. Bottles available. Wink. The spot isn't posh by any means. You walk in, and the Server will smile and nod that you can seat yourself. What they don't have in terms of fancy they sure do make up for it with everything else. Super, super reasonably priced. Clean, pretty restaurant, fresh food and delightful staff. Staff, Eswuin the young Server is one of the best I've come across. He reads his customers well. He knows exactly when to approach and when to leave well alone. He knows when you're in need of a little extra love and when you just wanna chill with hardly any words. And get this! He's the ONLY SERVER! It has never been to capacity on any of my visits, but I've seen him handle more than four tables, delivery orders (and you know DEM DRIVERS can get impatient) and walk in 2Go customers like a true champ! His energy is so sweet. So too the Chef and BOH staff I've run into, but Eswuin is THAT GUY! Please, when you visit, tip him well. You'll absolutely experience how deserving he is. Since coming to B-More I've had the pleasure of discovering many amazing spots and I'm so happy Kiku Sushi is one of them. The staff are friendly and attentive. The raw sushi is pretty authentic and tasty. Portions are fair and price point is reasonable. The menu had a good variety and I feel like there's something for everyone. Raw sushi, cooked sushi (ala carte pieces, rolls); fried items, salads, soups, sashimi, pokebowls, noodles (stir fried, soup); japanese pancakes (okonomiyaki) and different beverages, etc. Quite a few times I've gotten the Deluxe Chirashi Sushi before, both dining-in the restaurant and through take-out orders with DoorDash. It was super awesome and has to be my favorite! It's a bowl of sushi rice with different vegetables (varies: kale, mixed greens, cucumber, radish/ daikon, avocado, micro greens) and colorful delicate slices of seafood (both raw and cooked: tuna/ ahi, seared tuna, white tuna/ escolar, salmon, yellowtail/ japanese amberjack/ hamachi, mackerel, shrimp/ ebi, egg/ tamago, crab stick, fish eggs/ tobiko). It's definitely like a treasure box from the sea. I get so happy when I see this dish! It's almost too pretty to eat! XD I've also tried a few different rolls like: Baked Salmon Philly Roll "Oven cooked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, spicy mayo, sweet sauce" (baked in a foil packet), Eel Cucumber Roll (Unagi), Maryland Real Crab Roll "real crab mix with Japanese mayo, old bay, avocado, cucumber crunch flakes, wrapped with soy paper, special sauce", 3 Roll Combo (Spicy or Regular: California Roll, Tuna Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll). The Spicy Cali Roll was amazing!!!I've also tried the Seafood Pancake (okonomiyaki) "made with wheat flour batter, shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, squash and okonomi sauce, Japanese mayo, on top and shrimp, clams, and mussels". What I really like is how well packed the take-out orders are! They Miso Soup is wrapped in saran wrap to make sure it doesn't spill. There's a piece of carsboard under the soups to make sure they lay flat. The Miso Soup is also very flavorful with lots of tofu and seaweed inside, not watered down with no flavor. The sushi rolls are packed in clear boxes efficiently and with good presentation! I recommend to definitely check this place out! You won't be disappointed (: I can't wait till I order sushi from here again!

They also ordered wagyu fried rice and wagyu air fried rice (what's that?) She did say the fish was good but they all left hungry. These entrées, two cocktails plus two reg bevs came to over $200. The price wasn't a problem however they felt the value when it comes to quantity and price, left them looking for more. They choose Azumi for her husband's 60th birthday celebration and had to ask the server about how they would celebrate him since the check was about to arrive and nothing had happened. Their server asked if they were ordering something from the dessert menu and my friend declined. The server then came back with a small bowl of ice cream on top of a block of ice and three spoons . . . . She said they were all surprised and basically laughed at the "birthday" treat before them and how they were supposed to share the palm sized ice cream. She said multiple times they wouldn't go back and how disappointed her husband was with his birthday dinner experience while telling me the story. SMH I felt bad and asked her why she didn't ask me for a suggestion because yall know, we know who won't disappoint. She also didn't take any pics and I scolded her about that lol. I may have to fully recruit her to the Yelp family so she can do her research first although she stated her husband seen them on Tik Tok or IG. I have learned from that as well.

I asked what to get, since the menu is *huge* and overwhelming (I'm not sure why sushi, steak and pad Thai are on the same menu?). He recommended sushi, so I got a flaming dragon roll (I forget the exact name). Anyways, everyone else also ordered and the food came relatively quickly. Now...when I tell you this is the worst sushi I've ever had. Again, I hate being negative but I have to tell it like it is! When they first presented the dish, it was cool because they serve it on fire. I knew that they had sake in the dish (probably so the flame can keep going after they take it out of the kitchen). However, when I bit into it, the sake was *extremely* overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else except the sake. It was extremely alcohol-heavy and I could not finish the dish. I asked others to try it, and they all agreed that it was too heavy. The prices were also very high for what we got. The only food I enjoyed were the appetizers, but they were still unremarkable. Overall, I regrettably cannot recommend this place. None of the dishes stood out, and the sushi was shocking.

This place was luckily right nearby with good reviews, but since it was a bit too late to eat indoors as they were cleaning up, I ordered my food to go. The woman in front seemed friendly based on the brief interaction I had with her. I went with the $22.95 Grilled Roll Combo, which included grilled tuna, salmon, and yellowtail rolls. All of this came with a pretty large container of miso soup that was better than your typical store-bought version, as it had a better depth of flavor. There was a bit less tofu than at some other places, but perhaps I just got an uneven batch. The meal came with 24 pieces in total, which was a bit shocking to my NYC brain. The various fish had different flavors and nice grill marks, with my favorites being the tuna and yellowtail, as expected. The rice was a little bit soft, but this was to be expected as there was sauce on it and it had traveled, so I am not blaming them. Outside of the rolls, there was some wasabi and some gari/sushi ginger. It was a nice and satisfying meal. Overall, it was a good deal. I can see why this place has been open for years from this dish alone. I would go again if I were back in Baltimore for a game or something and would recommend others check it out.
