Crunchy Tuna Roll and Chiyo Roll
David P.

Rolls were good, Tigers Eye was an unusual dish and took forever to cook. Weird vibe when you first enter. Getting seating was odd and threw us off. Quite an interesting experience.

Chiyo is my go to sushi place. The nigiri is fresh and tastes good. They are the closest in flavor that I've had to the sushi I had in Tokyo. When my nephew wanted to try sushi for the first time, we ordered from here!

Yellowtail roll, Nataly roll, salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri, eel nigiri

Truly, I'd give it a 3.5 star rating if I could. I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend who is a huge fan of Chiyo. We were seated upstairs and service was relatively friendly. The menu is absolutely gigantic and overwhelming. The specialty rolls have an incredible amount of variety and if you have no dietary restrictions, you'll be in heaven. I stuck to the more basic maki rolls since I'm gluten free. We ordered... - salmon nigiri - tuna nigiri - eel nigiri (for my date) - yellowtail roll - Nataly roll (vegetable roll) - Yu-ki maki roll (to share) - Lesley roll (for my date) Overall, it was okay. I wouldn't order nigiri here again though. It did not taste fresh and the texture was chewy. The tuna was just... not good. My favorites were the yellowtail roll and the Nataly roll. The flavor was good and the texture was nice and crunchy. They also have tamari sauce in case you can't have soy sauce. That said, we ordered the Yu-ki maki roll to share since it appeared to be gluten free (yellowtail and avocado inside; salmon, scallion and wasabi mayo outside). The server then came back up about 15 minutes later to say the roll wasn't gluten free since it had mayo. I was super confused because mayo is naturally gluten free. She then said it was cause of the wasabi. Again, super confused because wasabi is also naturally gluten free. I asked if they could just put the sauce on the side just in case, but the chef had already made the roll. This was a little disappointing since I did mention needing gluten free accomodations before we even ordered. There also seems to be a lack of understanding of which of their ingredients are truly gluten free. It would be great to see their extensive menu marked with some indications of what is gluten free too. The roll came up to the table and was absolutely drowning in the mayo sauce. Allergies aside, I just didn't even like the roll. It would've been better without the mayo, in my opinion. Even my date, who is a Chiyo stan, said this was a disappointing visit for him. I probably won't be rushing back.

So I did something a little different this time. I ordered their sushi/sashimi combo and I honestly wasn't sure what "chef choice" pieces they would give me. I was quite surprised at the octopus. I normally like octopus salad and the octopus wasn't bad, personally I wouldn't get it again in this form.

I think I found my new favorite sushi spot because I've been there twice in one week and loved it both times! They have soooooo many sushi options for all and are reasonably priced. We did dine in both times and service was a little slow the first time but was much better the second time. Def check them out if you want good local sushi!

this is me after eating at this restaurant. Its sooo good i was sooo full and was sooooo happy after eating this much food. I ate like 67

yooo this place is sooooooooooo gooooooood bro its so yummy in my tummy i would give it a 6.7/5 if I could cs you know its just soo amazing. The service is above and beyond what you expect and dont get me started on the food. Its the best sushi ill ever have for the rest of my life.

So..... what's up with those chairs? Let me tell you. My girlfriend wanted to check this place out. I recalled reading reviews on Yelp and was..... hesitant. But, I love some good sushi. And you can't find it until you find it. The place is very unassuming in a cute area with a few other restaurants I'd like to try in the future. It's like somebody's house was converted into a sushi joint. There's just enough parking. I don't know where you'd park if the parking lot is full. Just don't park in the street (is what I was told). About those chairs. When we entered the front door I could immediately see the sushi chefs behind the bar making rolls. BUT.... you also see what appears to be an assembly line for 'to-go' orders being prepared. They have a table set up in the middle of the room with to-go bowls, bags, etc. And you're blocked from entering the room by 4 chairs lined side by side. Huh? What's going on here I thought to myself. They said the dining room is open. We told them we had a reservation and were told to 'come on'. Just move the chair out of the way. Huh? We were led to the upstairs dining room by one of the employees (I assumed she was an employee, who else would be leading us to our table). Everyone was wearing plain ole street clothes. It was like I came to somebody's house and they were serving me. Weird. We had the place to ourselves and were told Sundays were pretty empty. Now, let's talk about that menu! ...talk about information overload; whoa! They literally have hundreds of rolls. I kid you not! I just had to find something and go with it because I got tired of looking. Variety is good yes, but too much is just..... too much. I got edamame, the double ell roll, sunrise roll, and Maryland roll. I liked the sunrise roll, but REALLY liked the Maryland roll! The crab was fresh! Aside from that.... what I'll say its, been there done that. I can check it off my list. I may order in for those few rolls, but I'll stick to my other spots.

Appetizers are special. Dinner combo includes sashimi and beef teriyaki. It has a good price. The second floor for dine in is cozy. But servers don't always stay at the second floor. Sometimes it is difficult to get the service you want in time

Inside has a very cozy and intimate feel with modern boho decor influence. Staff was very welcoming and we were able to get seated quickly & have our order taken within the first 10 minutes of being seated. We ordered the calamari (10/10) which was my favorite item. Cooked to a perfect crisp & seasoned well. It was very fresh also. For our rolls we got the "Who's Your Daddy?" (8/10) & the "Hot Night Baby!" (9/10). The flavor profile on both was very good. Who's your daddy feature a seared piece of albacore tuna on top which added a nice smoke flavor. The hot night baby was my favorite, spicy tuna on top with shrimp tempura in the inside. One thing that I did appreciate is the menu, easy to read & straight forward. They have about 20 specialty rolls to choose from, your everyday classic maki rolls, appetizers, salads, and poki bowls. It makes it easier during the ordering process & you feel less "anxious" not having to choose from pages and pages of rolls like some other places. Overall Sushibruce Ya was a 10/10 experience and I will definitely be back

The quality of the fish is good - buttery, no fishy smell and soft. Most of the menu is fried rolls though with some nigiri and sashimi (very limited). Personally we love the sushi burrito (I know, crazy - but trust it's filled with so much meat and tastes good) and its giant mega parent version, the Full Option. I swear you can share that with someone and be full. Beware that there is auto gratuity included on every bill. It satisfies my craving for an omakase and is definitely not grocery store sushi quality.

I felt that the salmon was very fresh and I thought they gave very large chunks of salmon compared to other restaurants that really do skip out on the salmon portion, but this restaurant did not! The poke had cucumbers, mangoes, avocado, and scallions as well and I felt that the mango with a nice touch to add some sweetness, and it was also very fresh. The addition of the cucumber gave a nice crunchy texture that helped the dish overall. As for the sauce, I got the original non-spicy poker sauce. I came as part of a large group dinner. I appreciate that they took large reservations and sat us in a nice spot in the middle of the restaurant. The server was nice and patient, but I did notice his jacket smelled like cigaret smoke. I asked what to get, since the menu is *huge* and overwhelming (I'm not sure why sushi, steak and pad Thai are on the same menu?). He recommended sushi, so I got a flaming dragon roll (I forget the exact name). Anyways, everyone else also ordered and the food came relatively quickly. Now...when I tell you this is the worst sushi I've ever had. Again, I hate being negative but I have to tell it like it is! When they first presented the dish, it was cool because they serve it on fire. I knew that they had sake in the dish (probably so the flame can keep going after they take it out of the kitchen). However, when I bit into it, the sake was *extremely* overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else except the sake. It was extremely alcohol-heavy and I could not finish the dish. I asked others to try it, and they all agreed that it was too heavy. The prices were also very high for what we got. The only food I enjoyed were the appetizers, but they were still unremarkable. Overall, I regrettably cannot recommend this place. None of the dishes stood out, and the sushi was shocking.

This place was luckily right nearby with good reviews, but since it was a bit too late to eat indoors as they were cleaning up, I ordered my food to go. The woman in front seemed friendly based on the brief interaction I had with her. I went with the $22.95 Grilled Roll Combo, which included grilled tuna, salmon, and yellowtail rolls. All of this came with a pretty large container of miso soup that was better than your typical store-bought version, as it had a better depth of flavor. There was a bit less tofu than at some other places, but perhaps I just got an uneven batch. The meal came with 24 pieces in total, which was a bit shocking to my NYC brain. The various fish had different flavors and nice grill marks, with my favorites being the tuna and yellowtail, as expected. The rice was a little bit soft, but this was to be expected as there was sauce on it and it had traveled, so I am not blaming them. Outside of the rolls, there was some wasabi and some gari/sushi ginger. It was a nice and satisfying meal. Overall, it was a good deal. I can see why this place has been open for years from this dish alone. I would go again if I were back in Baltimore for a game or something and would recommend others check it out.
