ON our last night, we hit up Shinji's after dinner. We were originally a party of 4, but they let us add ab extra person after we arrived. We sat at a book. I of course had to get the orange drink! it was very fun. And the way they crafted it and made it look like an actual orange was impressive. The vibe is kinda underground tiki but in an unleash the kraken kinda way. Fun in a kitschy kinda way. Good for the novelty of the tropicana. But for me, it's not an everyday kinda bar. TLDR: AMAZING food, service, and vibes. My go-to bar whenever I'm in New York! ‍…read more Let me paint you a picture... It's past midnight on a Sunday in July. I allegedly had one too many before heading to The Headless Widow where I was finishing the night with a Botanical Disco (delicious, no notes). I have one (1) AirPod in my left ear because I 1. have to be listening to something at all times to make my Spotify Wrapped minutes even more egregious each year and 2. was just gifted them for my birthday three days earlier. Now some background...I notoriously end up losing every AirPod I've ever had (the longest retention streak was two years, the shortest...three days (you see where this is going)). Eventually, I head to the bathroom, where I take out said left AirPod lest something happen to it and I drop it in the toilet or sink. In trying to be proactive, however, my clumsy fat fingers dropped the AirPod on the Headless Widow's pristinely white bathroom floor. I know they clean around the clock because it was so spotless I could not for the life of me find my white AirPod among all the white tiles. I searched for what must have been 15 minutes before giving up and heading back out (should I have asked for help? YES! Was I too embarrassed to do so? Also yes). I eventually DM The Headless Widow to ask if they've seen one (1) left AirPod. Expecting to be left on delivered or to get a message saying no, I was surprised when they said "Yes! We do have one (1) left AirPod, you can pick it up at any time!" The problem? I live in D.C. and had already left NYC. I beg them to hold onto it until I can catch a train to get there, and ask whether they can mail it to me. The precious social media manager said don't sweat it! We will mail it to you :). My left AirPod arrived via carrier pidgin (USPS) all in one piece and now I finally can listen in surround sound. I begged them for their venmo or Zelle, but they wouldn't take my money, so here I am writing a very silly, very long review! Seriously, the best bar in NYC if you're looking for witchy, whimsical vibes and delicious drinks (plus the best pretzel in the city)...or if you are a silly girl who lost her AirPod. A million stars, if technology allowed, but I'll settle for five .

Lots of stained glass windows made the space feel very gothic and moody. The drinks here were really good - the one with cachaca was my favorite, and you can tell they take a lot of care with the composition of the drinks. The bouncer sitting at a door that lead into a basement isn't particularly friendly or helpful. Had one person walk back and forth a couple times and she had the only comment from the guy of "don't know where you're going - can ask." They have a basement bar (seems tight and dark.. not great) that you walk into downstairs, a cool bit of apothecary items in a glass cabinet on the way down. That area seems dark and speak-easy like. The elevator downstairs brings you all the way to the rooftop where they have a nice view and a space that is outside but that can be covered. You aren't allowed to just go into the hotel/apartment building elevator from the 1st floor... though you can exit out. Bar drinks were pretty cool mixes of different mixology specials and the bartenders had etched mixing cups. Rooftop has a little green, a cover for inclement weather, and bathrooms. There was an external DJ hooked up to give some music. Gets crowded quickly and not easy to move around once it's busy. Good views of Empire State Building and the surroundings.
