I went twice the first time was a really good experience the server was a Spanish guy who was friendly and checked on me. The second time I went the guy at the door was aggressive and trying to seat me at the bar since I was alone but I wanted a table and inside was very empty the server also tried to seat me at the bar because the bald man at the door this experience wasnt great. The service wasnt great I got a dirty cup for water i didnt get utensils even though I ordered food and I don't see myself going back which is a shame since ive been staying in the area. The oysters were good the calamari was ok small portion and not much zucchini and the truffle fries weren't great. I got the time traveler drink which was good but the happy hour doesnt have many drinks and is pricey compared to other spots in the area. read more

Really loved the ambiance and vibe of this spot! However, I didn't love the food experience. I came here for a happy hour with a friend to order their oysters. They're $18 for a dozen and I was excited to try. They are tiny! They were fresh and came with the tradition sauces but I can't get over how small they were. Service was okay, the server seemed like he didn't want to be there and was waiting for us to leave. I would come back if someone wanted to particularly come here but otherwise I don't think I would. read more

Love the vibes in this cocktail bar! Last night was my second time coming here and the cocktails are top notch. My friend and I both had an espresso martini to start. It was a good espresso martini for sure! We then tried their signature cocktails. I had the high tea and I loved it! It was tart and refreshing. My friend got the Mary Poppins. It had a peppery kick, so if you like more savory drinks, you will love this. Both had the cutest presentation! I would definitely come back here for cocktails. I did feel like the service was a little slow, even at the bar, and they would not let us split the check and use 2 cards, which was strange. Other than that, cute spot! read more

Really good hh deal with shareables at $12, some cocktails, and $10 wine until 7PM! My friends and I shared the nachos with chicken added (10/10 every chip was thoroughly coated with toppings and stayed crispy) and fries (10/10 so crispy!) We ordered a round of wine and i got the east side which was good and refreshing! Wasn't too crowded and we were able to hear each other talk which was really nice! read more

Stopped here after a less than stellar dinner, to end the night with a good drink with my boyfriend before heading home. -He ordered a Dirty Martini with vodka while I opted for the Talk To Me Nice cocktail (Tequila, House Pressed Lime, Fresh Cilantro, Fresh Raspberries, Serrano Pepper) - They offer a *BIG* book of cocktails and basically every type of spirit - The 2 bartenders were super friendly and cheerful. I bet they can make some lively off-the-books drinks! - The interior decor was GIVING ME LIFE. "Cozy study with a bar nook" vibes, old-world charm, tons of different seating areas.. super beautiful in the dark and especially with the Christmas decor (I was here mid December 2023.) Wow, typing that feels like forever ago! Favorite item in the entire bar has to be the vintage cash register! Fancier menu available for dinner, which is both seafood-forward yet simultaneously loaded with American bar-food classics. Highly recommend for a date or to imbibe a nicer-than-average cocktail! read more

Nice place for cocktails. They were totally bumping on a Friday night but had two seats at the bar - score. They have a nice little patio and lots of tables, so plenty of seating options. It is a dark, sexy cocktail lounge, great for a date night. They can do all the classics to perfection, or you can order from an impressive selection of signature drinks. I tried the guillotini, a play on their namesake, and it satisfied. A gin focused drink with hints of raspberry and an eggwhite for texture, I was satisfied. My wife's dirty martini was solid, too. Intrigued to try more! read more

Great drinks that are properly crafted, amazing vibes (slightly noisy and packed during peak but lighting allows you to enjoy lose yourself in the vibes) The bartenders and the staff are fairly attentive and your drinks are made fairly promptly after you order. The menu itself has a good variety of drink options as well as some food. I didn't try any as the kitchen was closed by then, but definitely will be back to snack on a plethora of small bites. Think chic cocktail spot that still offers a reasonably priced full bar if cocktails are not your jam. The ambience allows you to feel like you're in a laid back bar with good music without feeling like you're in a typical sports bar or dive bar (nothing wrong with them but this place hits the right notes when you want a nice drink without the pretentiousness a cocktail spot may have but still elevated and enjoyable rather than out of place like cocktails at a sports bar) Definitely a nice date spot but be forewarned, definitely tight squeeze and loud during peak. Unless you want a normal chair, def recommend the bar or the 2 high top seats with a ledge by the window. read more

I had a great time at the headless widow! The whole place was packed on Saturday night. The drinks were incredible, and service was really efficient. My favorite drink was the Passenger Princess. Very tasty drinks! They have a good mix of alcohol forward and tastier drinks. If you have a sweet palette I recommend the lip gloss and the high tea. There is also a spicy margarita that's really tasty. We unfortunately didn't get to try the food because kitchen was closed. Ambiance was fun. Music might be a little too loud if you want a more intimate environment. Service was good. How long you wait is partially luck. read more

Stopped by for a cocktail in the afternoon. The place is very unpretentious which I appreciate, instead it feels like your local cocktail bar that serves great specialty cocktails. We got the Diablo's Margarita (spicy margarita) and the Ginger Man. Both had cute garnishes. The marg was pretty standard, I wish I got something more special but it was still good. The Ginger cocktail was also good. read more

Headless Widow is a banger. It's a very non-assuming bar from the outside, but it's very cute and cozy on the inside (and feels kinda rustic, but in a charming way) The bar tenders are also really sweet and were really helpful with the recommendations! (Disclaimer, I like fruity drinks.) But every drink I ordered, it was strong but you couldn't really tell. I also thought every drink was refreshing as well. The best part is that every drink was presented in such a cute way (besides Thee tea cup cocktail)! 10/10 would recommend and come back multiple times for a chill night out. read more

This cocktail bar and restaurant is a solid must-visit when we come to the East Village. Each cocktail is positively exquisite, crafted by someone who is intimately familiar with the subtle flavors and fragrances of spirits and spices, and who has a consummate eye for presentation. I won't even try to say which drink is my favorite, because each new one served was an absolute taste sensation, and seemingly even better than the last. Do yourself a favor and try to avoid your old favorites (though they're also bound to be beautifully done), and let the bartender (especially Eddy) serve you up something just right. As food goes, each thing I've had was sublime, and even with the small'ish menu they have a pretty full range of nosh - seems like I tend to go for soft pretzels and nachos, or ceviche and mussels. (Pretty sure they have fare for the steak and pasta tastes too.) I should mention that the ambience is lovely, dark and intimate, lit by candles and dim sconces... reminiscent of an old port tavern. Definitely great for a classy ladies night or a romantic date, but It can get a little loud due to its popularity and minimal spacing between tables/stools. You might consider getting there ahead off the crowd. We've always been just lucky enough to find a spot for two, though! read more

You can't swing a dead rat in New York City without hitting a cocktail bar, it seems, but occasionally, you find one that really strikes a chord. For me, that's The Headless Widow in the East Village. Not that I mind my recent visit there with friends... but I would say the ambiance-candlelit and mood lighting-just seems right for a date night. (I'm writing that down to remember for myself). Music soft yet soothing and the cocktails, the reason we were there, were great. I had the Smokey and the Bandit (mezcal and strawberry) and the Gingerman (normally vodka, but I switched it out with whiskey and ginger). I also had a sip of my friend's drink called the High Tea, but I can't recall the ingredients. Beyond drinks, we got calamari, fried oysters, and a plate of nachos. Real fancy, I know. I don't recall our waitress's name, but she was super great, keeping drinks topped and the mood light. Already plotting my next visit. Maybe with a date. read more

We were grabbing drinks while waiting for an event to start nearby. Ended up parking close to this spot and decided to walk in after deciding against a dive bar. Immediately upon entry we were greeted by a particular waiter--- whose name he didn't throw and I didn't catch. Water is served and the service was attentive all the way through. Four stars only because the ceiling had some very visible water damage and bubbles that looked ready to pop any minute. Otherwise, the place looks cozy and has a intimate atmosphere. The drinks are delicious, especially crafted and made me want to try everything on the menu. Particularly I've had the Typsy scale, smokey and the Bandit and the Guillotini. I wish I would tell you which one I liked the most but they were all very good. So good that when we went to the event I kept wishing I had one of these cocktails. For food we had the oysters and calamari and they were delicious! Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Perfect for date night or catching up with an intimate group of friends. read more

I stumbled upon this place before dinner and I'm so happy that I did. I walked in and the host (I'm so mad I forgot his name..!) welcomed me in the best way. He guided me to the bar and I was met with bartender Keith. Aside from the delicious and *unique* drink, the service really made the experience memorable. I'm sorry I didn't get to them sooner I was looking for a unique drink so I was between their Willy Wonka and their Hot Toddy. He helped me choose the Willy Wonka and MAN!! The Willy Wonka is a warm red wine with chocolate and other wonderful flavors. It comes in a tea cup. Not too sweet.. perfect temperature.. and had the right notes of everything. Please go and try this place. Not only do they have fun drinks, the service was memorable especially on a cold night like today! Thank you read more

This review honestly breaks my heart to write. The Headless Widow has always been one of our favorite bars in NYC. We are regulars, we've recommended it to friends and family countless times, and it has consistently been one of our top suggestions when people ask where to go. We love the ambience, the drinks, and the overall vibe of the place -- which is exactly why last night's experience was so shocking and disappointing. When my husband and I walked in, there were tables open. The bar itself seemed mostly full, but the small wooden tables by the window with barstools were almost completely empty. We told the server who greeted us that we were hoping to sit either at the bar or at one of those window barstools. He told us we could stand at the bar to order, which we agreed to. While grabbing menus from the bar, we noticed that only one woman was sitting at the window barstools -- all the other stools were empty. I spoke to her, and she kindly told us she was about to leave anyway because her friends were running late and she had another reservation. She said we were welcome to take her spot. I sat down, and my husband stayed by the bar to look at the menu. Almost immediately, the same server came over and told us we couldn't sit there and that we had to stand at the bar. At this point, the woman who had been sitting there stepped in and explained to him that she was leaving and that we had spoken to her. She even seemed confused herself, saying she didn't understand why it was an issue since she was getting up and no one else was sitting there. At that point, I told my husband that I no longer felt welcome, and we decided to leave. It completely ruined our night and left a really bitter taste -- not just because of the situation, but because this was a place we genuinely loved and felt connected to. It's sad to walk away from an establishment you've supported for years, but feeling unwelcome and disrespected is not something we're willing to overlook. I hope management takes this seriously and provides better training to their staff so guests are treated with basic respect and kindness. Unfortunately, after this experience, we don't think we'll be returning. read more

Good cocktails and surprisingly really good fish & chips as well! It was lightly battered and deep fried to perfection. They are also very flexible to swap any liquor with another on their cocktail menu, which I did since there weren't many tequila-based cocktails. I love the flexibility and the service was great. We were sitting outside in their outdoor dining area and the servers were attentive and came checked on us frequently. read more

We finally stopped by this cute bar and it happened to be happy hour (everyday 4-7pm). The items that are part of the happy hour have an HH by them on the menu. Drinks: 5/5 - I had the Time Traveler and it was right up my alley, refreshing and crisp. The Ginger Man had a spice to it, something you only find with real ginger so that was nice. Service: 4/5 - Friendly staff, we sat at the bar by the window and they came to take our order. Took them a little to get to us but once they did they were very good. Ambiance: I love the curtained entrance, makes it feel like you're entering a secret new world. It's very cozy feeling inside, you instantly feel at home. Good for groups too! Nope or Dope: Dope, love the vibes and drinks, will def go back! read more

We had a great time at the Headless Widow, a fantastic name for an excellent bar. Not in the mood for a sports bar or an ersatz Irish pub, we found the Headless Widow open at 4:00 on a Sunday, after wandering the East Village because the East Village Hat Shop was closed. Josh was our bartender, well he's a mixologist by passion and a bartender by trade. He took amazing care of us all afternoon, and mixed me great concoctions and my wife a tasty Pimm's Cup. Food was good too. I loved the shrimp and the pretzel lasted until the next day's breakfast. The Headless Widow would be a great bar to meet friends and hang out. It's the quintessential neighborhood bar. read more

Really cute spot that was stumbled upon during some late night bar hopping! Our party of four was able to score a couple of tables relatively quickly - with the help of the amazing servers. Cocktails were tasty and the menu was vast - some of them even came out with bonus spritzes from little perfume bottles! A nice touch that adds some memorable flair for sure! I opted for the mezcal/tequila spicy options and was not disappointed. read more

Drinks were delicious. I really liked the time traveler and asked for it with less lemon which I would highly recommend. Ambiance was good. Fun music. Found this gem just by walking around and decided to stop in for happy hour. I ordered the time traveler and my partner orders the ginger HH drink (can't remember the name) and they were to die for. With that reputation for those two happy hour drinks we decided to try other things - I got the high tea and it's GORGEOUS, and that cocktail combination was magical. The spritz of rose water at the end was just the cherry top. I felt so classy drinking at this place! Yes the cocktails are absolutely a dream but what really makes this experience top of line is the amazing hospitality we experienced from our server and the staff in general. Seems like a great place to work and we were treated like we were family or old friends! It really made me love this place. Would absolutely come in again when I'm in the neighborhood! read more

Came here on sat for a friend's birthday celebration. Food was delicious Drinks were amazing and the service was 100% shout out to our server Brian. I had the Fish&Chips, well seasoned and fresh fish had a perfect fry, fries were good (not authentic chips but still good), as for the coleslaw, seemed abit heavy after a scoops in, would've been better if it were creamy vinegar slaw to balance out the meal. Had 2 cocktails, they have a classic cocktail page on the menu along with their house cocktails (regret not taking pics) that's not on their website. Classic old fashioned to start was amazing and had a vesper (because James Bond) in the end to finish. Overall would definitely return! read more

Loved this place. So cozy on a dreary Saturday evening. They have happy hour everyday from 4-7pm with $12 signature cocktails, $8 shots, 6 beers and $9 glasses of wine. We arrived around 5pm and it wasn't too crowded. We sat at the bar which I liked since we got to see the bartenders make all of the interesting cocktails. I ordered the candy man which was a ginger flavored vodka drink; very light, refreshing and easy to drink. I also tried a lavender shooter (shot) which was delicious! Both drinks were dangerously good! They had a few food options but most people were just enjoying drinks. Highly recommend this spot for date night! read more

Okay spot. Cocktails were good pre-pandemic. The recent visit all cocktails were overly sweet and flat like typical pandemic cocktail ... - the premade :/ Pretzel were pretty good but $13 a pretzel?! Nice presentation though. Escargot were not bad. Infact less typical seasoning yet taste fresh and light. Good portion. Fried Calamari was sad, small portion and still barely any calamari. Honestly one of the best cocktail restaurants I've had in a while!! The service was AMAZING!! I think the person who served us, just moved to NY and he was super nice and respectful. We came on a Friday night, and the restaurant was sort of packed and we didn't get help for a while. We ordered some mussels & the wagyu burger and those were delicious. Mussels were flavorful, lots of sauce on the bottom of the plate!!! The wagyu burger was the best burger I've had in a long time. It was juicy & had perfect ratio of lettuce and the other condiments. Every bite was BUSSIN'. Drinks were all super delicious. Most of the drinks we got had a hint of ginger in it, but my favorite thing is that it wasn't overpowering.
