Had an excellent experience here. I was unable to eat upstairs on my birthday because it was so packed. We had a drink at the upstairs bar and the bartender told us about UnderCOTE- which I thought was a nice play on words. Located downstairs - you will see a frozen meat storage area, bathroom and then the entrance to UnderCOTE. The place looked busy but the greeter was able to put us on the waitlist and luckily he was able to get us in within 30minutes. Stopped by Undercote while waiting for our table at Cote, and it ended up being such a great part of the experience. The space is sleek, modern, and very clean. Dimly lit in the best way, with a stunning living tree wall that gives it a cool, upscale vibe. We ordered the chicken nuggets, which were delicious and hit the spot. We try to go to the restaurant upstarts but we had to be on the waitlist and hopefully get in ( we didn't) so we went to the bar sort of like speakeasy downstairs. It's so dark so I definitely don't recommend it for a first date. service is great. The bar is cute and the lounge area sitting is very comfortable. We had 2 glass of Sincere . It's underneath Cote, under street level. There is a bit of a wet musty smell because they have live greenery on the walls that are watered. They could use a bit more decor, but the bar itself is aesthetically pleasing. The drinks are unique, I found a couple to be a bit on the sweeter side. The martini with blue cheese olive was great, definitely got the orange flavor but balanced well with the saltiness of the olive. I'd come back but not go out of my way for it. read more

The bar's all-black furniture, walls covered in plants and tree roots really make you feel like you're inside of a jungle terrarium. I ordered the Illusions (6/10): This is a gin-based cocktail with cocchi rosa (aromatized wine), apple, lemon, and butterfly pea. I thought this was average. On the sweeter side of their cocktail selection. The butterfly pea is cool because it changes colors from the acid in the lemon interacting with the butterfly pea powder. Absolutely bizarre vibes at this 'hidden' bar, located within Cote and down a flight of stairs just beyond the entrance. As you descend into black walled darkness you pass a red light meat locker that turn into what looks a bit like the stuffed animal exhibits at the Natural History Museum but with just plants. We were seated past the bar, next to each other on a black leather couch with a round coffee table with lit up slits in the surface. Surrounded by black glass and more lit up plant walls (also behind glass) we squinted at our menu and ordered some genuinely delicious cocktails. When served, they place them on the light up parts of the table so they look kinda magical. Actually my cocktail was billed as "a magical experience" -- the gin-based Illusions cocktail that included butterfly pea and glowed with a purple hue. This place is cool in a slightly sinister way (you sort of feel like you're being watched behind one way glass or something, I dunno man. Vaguely creeper but in a kind of James Spader sexy way??? Everybody was very pleasant don't get me wrong), but once it starts to get busy it's a little more trouble than it's worth. That said, I would consider coming back here dressed in a slinky number and making eyes with a mysterious man across the bar who looks like he stepped out of a 80s style neo noir. Will need to figure out how to plan that but doesn't seem too hard for this place. read more

I'd read great things about this speakeasy, but it wasn't for me. It's very dark--so dark that reading the menu is a challenge. If you want light, ask for the bar area, which feels a bit cozier. Drinks are pricey for what you get; you can pay the same at a rooftop with amazing views instead of a basement. On the upside, the staff were wonderful, and the bacon was excellent--probably the highlight of the night. Still, the room had an odd odor and no real vibe. We were looking for a spot to grab some drinks and small bites after doing a dessert tasting menu at Lysee. My cousin suggested we come here as she's been meaning to try the cocktails at Undercote. And she really enjoyed her meal at Cote. We walked over on a rainy evening (Saturday around 7 pm) and made our way through Cote and down the stairs. It was dark and had great mood lighting. We put our name down with the hostess and decided to go to the bathroom before we went back upstairs. By the time I came out of the bathroom (super nice bathroom btw with great thick towels), my cousin told me they texted her to let her know they were ready for us! The hostess showed us to our table with low seating. It was definitely the place to be. I loved the jungle decor. They brought is water and menus. We decided on the 8 oz American wagyu, the Korean bacon, and the sweet & tangy chicken nuggets. My husband also got the Monte Carlo, while my cousin and I both opted for the Space Heavy cocktail. Our drinks came out first and were beautiful. Their ice is impressive. The drink was exactly as described in the menu, crisp and refreshing. I appreciate a cocktail menu that does descriptions of their drink so you can have a better idea of what you'll like! The food came pretty quickly and we were amazed. Even though it's labeled Small Bites, they were fairly large portions, which who doesn't love? And the food was AMAZING. The waiter brought out another table to ensure we had enough space for everything. The steak was by far the best bite of our whole weekend trip. It was cooked so perfectly, and you could taste how great of quality it was. It came with some delicious dipping sauce, but I didn't bother using it - it was so good on its own. My husband, cousin, and I were ridiculously happy. The porkbelly was also delicious. We enjoyed the sweet & tangy chicken nuggets. It did have a kick to it! It also came with a kim chi scallion salad type thing. I was so full, but I took a few small bites and they were so good. I think one of the biggest things was how well they treated us. We had been rained on, we were in leggins/sweats. My husband and I had on tennis shoes, and my cousin might have had on a Costco sweater. Even from the beginning, they were very kind and treated us like everyone else there! Who was much more dressed up then us. Even though we were feeling under dressed, they were the nicest. It has one of the most beautiful ambiances you can imagine and they have lights set into the tables to make your drinks even more beautiful than they already are! We visited Undercote after our dinner on a Saturday night. It was pretty empty but the vibes are nice inside. Super dark and cool, lots of greenery, and good music. We each got a drink - beware they are pretty pricey... $22-$30. My drink was $30 and not sure it is worth it. The flavor was good but the ice cube inside was giant. If taken out, my drink would probably be 1/4 full? Didn't really give me a buzz either. I would still recommend visiting for the full Cote experience. The ambiance of this bar is super cute, and perfect for a date! We came on a Friday night, and they only do waist lists. Came around 830pm, and the wait ended up being an hour... which was quite a long wait. I wouldn't necessarily say the wait was worth it (thankfully there are other bars around the area, so we went somewhere else to grab a drink first before coming to this one). Drinks: don't have high expectations of the drinks :/ the drinks here have a hefty price tag, but they are pretty mediocre.... The presentation of the drinks are great tho! The drinks we got are 1- illusion- this is the IG worthy drink that changes color as the drink gets poured onto the ice. This is a gin based drink, and it's on the sweeter side. The drink doesn't taste that great tbh, and we only got it for the presentation 2. I'm a huge Gibson fan, so of course I'm gonna opt for their Gibson. The glass is beautiful, however I'm not sure if the drink is that strong (the same way as the Gibsons I've had before). We also tried their food- the pork belly, which was delicious! Highly recommend! Service: great service, our waitress was very nice! We decided to hit a few Speakeasys as part of our quick trip to NYC. We started with Patent Pending as our first stop and decided to move to Undercote. It was a busy Saturday and we had to wait around 20 minutes for the table to be ready. Not to ruin the surprise but let's just say the bar is cleverly located (and named). The ambiance and the vibe is incredibly unique. The tables are small and facilitate conversation and the backgrounds are a bunch of creepers / plants lit behind a frame of glass. We ordered the Ghost Ride, the Illusion and Super Heavy based on talking with our server. They also made a pomegranate themed mocktail for our designated driver. The drinks hit the spot. Located downstairs from Cote, you pass through a dark room where you can see a red-lit dry-aging chamber, and as you continue behind a thick sheet of black curtains, you enter a mysterious yet upscale speakeasy with a sophisticated presentation. The black walls are contrasted with dimly lit drooping leaves, and slits of lights are found on every table where you can place your drinks on to make them glow. It is very aesthetic, and you pay for the ambience. The wait wasn't bad - as a party of 3, we waited for about 15-20 minutes. I opted for the popular color-changing cocktail, Illusions. It was pretty good, and the visuals were very appealing when placed under the light, but I thought that the sour lemon flavor was overpowering. I also got the juicy martini, and it tasted very strong. My friend got Purrfect and Walk This Way, which were both okay and light. Overall, I'd rate the drinks here a 3/5. The service, presentation, and ambience deserve a 5/5. This place would be a great spot if you prefer a nice, cozy mood and don't mind average-tasting drinks. read more

You're paying for the ambiance and the drink experience-they do taste good. I ordered two drinks per the server's reccs. If you love fruity drinks I'd recommend "The Illusion" and it is a bit of an illusion. It comes out in a glass and is poured out and changes color with a large ice cube in the middle. This drink was delicious, it was fruity and hits you with a sweet lingering aftertaste. I also tried "The Drop" which is a tropical and spicy drink that'll hit you with a little mezcal kick but it hits right! I will say this drink came in a tall glass that was literally filled past the rim with ice. At this point it was 20% drink and 80% ice which honestly felt like a bit of a dupe. Service: 3/5 We didn't have a resy and still managed to be seated which was nice. It seems like this spot was pretty popular for a weekday night. Our server was kind and informative about the drink options! But once we got our drinks, we didn't see them until we were able to flag them down for a second round and then also flag them down for the check. Vibe: 3/5 This is an undercover speakeasy! The decors were very interesting, it's in the basement of Cote (hence the name), dark and was filled with plants. I personally love the ambiance. Drinks were interesting and has a twist of Korean.
