Didn't try a lot here but after tax and tip I forked out $30 for one drink that was a letdown. The guava cocktail was strong and I couldn't taste any guava. The makrut my friend got was better - the leaf garnish really intensified the curry flavor and aroma. Service good, no issues getting assistance with anything. The coat check hallway is so narrow, so I wish it was a more smooth process, especially since they required us to check our coats to sit at the bar, but we went when it wasn't busy, so it was okay. The coolest speakeasy in New York! Probably one of the only bars I could find that serves caipirinhas outside of Brazil. The atmosphere was one of the coolest and was similar to old Hollywood vibes. Very intimate setting with dim lighting and the waiters are dressed nice. It can be hard to find the entrance, just look for security standing in front of a door with lots of stickers. It's across the rice pudding place. We got lucky and the four of us got in without a reservation on a Saturday night, but highly recommend making one just in case. read more

Once we saw them open a graffiti up door, we were more curious what was behind that door. Turned out to be a really spanking nice cocktail bar hidden in plain sight. That makes this a speakeasy, right? Since this was a Sunday evening, reservations were not really required, but definitely encouraged for Fridays and Saturdays. Such a vibe. One of the coolest places I've been to in NYC. The decor and ambiance curated by the staff really makes you feel like you were transported to Los Angeles in the 70s. The drinks were phenomenal. Definitely a top five dirty martini in the city for me. Our waiter was phenomenal. She was the perfect amount of chatty, and it came up in conversation that it was my boyfriend's birthday. I hadn't notated it on the reservation and she gave us two complementary glasses of Prosecco, which was very kind. Two things to note they don't do any food at all and they are pretty strict on the hour and a half time limit that you're given. If you are someone who likes to linger for a really long time I don't think that this is necessarily the best spot for you, but it's really great if you just wanna experience the vibe, get a fancy expensive cocktail and head somewhere else or head home or head to dinner. read more

Couldn't get a reservation in advance, but my friend and I decided to try our hand at showing up early, waiting in line, and seeing if we could get seats at the bar. We showed up 15 min before opening (a bouncer was waiting outside for about half an hour before opening) and asked if there was a possibility of seats. The bouncer said he couldn't comment on the availability, but we could wait for the matre'd at the opening to find out, so we did, and we were the first ones in the bar! My friend had a special ratio martini and I had a rum-based tiki drink which looked like it could be Moana and Tefiti's fave drink, decorated with a cute flower (this is a good thing). Sitting at the bar was one of the best spots, especially if you're interested in how the magic happens here (or for supreme people-watching). At the opening, only one bartender was working for the first hour (blonde). She effortlessly conducted her beverage alchemy. She was friendly, and would chat to my friend and me about martini ratios, drink preferences, and general inquiries about the bar. Just watch out- if they ask if you want a bottle of still or sparkling water- they're not complementary, and you're gonna get charged European prices for that bottle; you can ask for tap. Just went to Tigre for a cute pre-drinks before dinner. The bouncer as many people mentioned spoke to us as little as possible. The hostess pops out and first thing she says instead of welcoming us was, "When you are inside take off your hat". I do not normally patron places that have a dress code policy as it is derived from racist archaic sterotypes. My husband wanted to try the place for weeks so I went ahead knowing I would not be back until this dress code policy (which is not mentioned anywhere) is lifted. Then they wanted to do coat checks which was a bit weird as we had light jackets that went with our look.The drinks were great and the bartender made good small talk. The watermelon cocktail tasted overwhelmingly like licorice and the mango Eau cocktail tasted like potpourri in the worst way. I recommend only getting wine/champagne here. Tigre is everything I was hoping for and more. Rarely does a place live up to the general hype *and* my personal hype, but here we are. It was a truly exceptional experience, one that had me giddy (ask anyone who was sitting around me) and already planning my next visit back. I didn't really know what to expect going in. I knew it was Maison Premiere's follow up, and Maison Premiere is a bar I've loved for a long time. That's about it. What I learned is that it's a bar that oozes glamour and sexiness, with a menu that caters to martini lovers. As a martini lover walking in with no knowledge of this, one could only imagine how overwhelming and delightful it was to discover this. I hope Tigre sticks around because it's a special place. We came here at around 10:45 on a Saturday night. I didn't realize that Tigre took reservations, so the bouncer said we had to come back once they started to accept walk-ins, which he said would be around 11:15. After getting a drink around the corner and returning to Tigre, a short line had formed, but we got in within about 15 minutes of returning there. We descended down into what can only be described as a dazzling, golden cocktail sanctuary, a space that feels like it is of a different era. The cocktail menu is not up online, so when I saw what the offerings were here, I just about fainted from joy. In addition to a list of signature cocktails, there's an entire martini menu that's as unique and complex as I've ever seen. You can choose your martini by ratio of vermouth to spirit (4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 16:1/straight liquor), and then you can choose your gin or vodka. I'm a gin lover and I hadn't certain of a single gin on the menu. None of them looked remotely familiar (and out of a list of six vodkas, I only recognized one brand). I honestly cannot remember which one I ended up going with, but it was the one with saffron notes (and I know I was between that and one with horseradish notes). I opted for a 1:8 martini, a choice I stand by. It very well might have been the best martini I've ever had. It made me want to try one with every gin on the menu, but I'd need to be carried off on a stretcher had I opted to go in that direction. I then switched to the Rolls Royce, Tigre's spin on the classic cocktail. This rendition had gin, moscato chinato, benedictine and saffron -- a teensy bit of sweetness but mostly dry, with luxurious fragance thanks to the saffron. We arrived after a lovely evening at Duane Park where we had dinner and a show for a bday celebration. It was just the 2 of us as we got out of the cab and walked up to the door and were not allowed entry. My partner was wearing a $600 knit sweater, and $400 denim (adding pricing for context) the denim alluded to rips in jeans but that is just the design. There was no actual skin showing. It's NY Winter. So you are forewarned if you travel to this venue they are treating it like an exclusive night club and try to call ahead to find out their dress code as there was no mention of this on their IG or website. This was a horrible experience (especially when you are celebrating a birthday) and honestly when you hear about a new business and you go to patronize the business never try to fight to get into a place that obviously doesn't want you there. I did however run into 2 women at a nearby bar who told me they had just come from Tigre. One of which had on ripped jeans with her actual skin showing. read more

Really wanted to like Tigre but it's kind of the worst. Arrived at my reservation time, the doorman/bouncer was very off putting. Didn't make eye contact, never looked up from his phone, and just told me to "stand to the side". Asked him to clarify what was going on and how long I could expect to wait and you would've thought I asked him to jump off a bridge lmao like so sorry you have to communicate with me bro Next, my friend and I were sat at this comically situated table (wish I took a pic) where it's basically a half day bed that's like 3 feet off the ground. There's no way to sit comfortably. Not a big deal as there were plenty of other tables so I asked to move to a different table and they looked me dead in the eye and said they couldn't because they were completely full. At this point we're laughing at how weird this experience has been. We're half laying down/cross legged in our adult high chair and we don't get a menu for about 20 minutes. Ordered 2 very basic drinks and it took another 20 minutes to get them. They also gradually turned the music up which is normal if you're at a club but this is a cocktail lounge! I noticed other parties looking around with the "what is going on" expression as the music got to absurd levels. We couldn't hear each other talk so we decided to cut our losses and dip.
