Great spot for a girls' night out. Drinks were interesting and the vibe was very classy. The staff was super friendly as well. Fav was Painted Paradise.

Cute place for intimate date night! There is a waitlist if you didn't make a reservation, but it goes by fast. The drinks are all very unique.

Very over priced drinks and everyone is required to have a drink. Maybe that's a NYC thing now it wasn't last time I was here. Place was nice and clean but service could be friendlier again maybe an nyc thing but we felt like they were rushing us rather than being friendly. The drinks were decent but at the price point of $23 per drink I expected better. Nothing special or memorable in both taste and presentation. Go elsewhere. So forgettable I don't even recall the name of the drinks for the photos.

I use to like the hidden bar that was at St. Marks. Friend of mine brought me back to go through memory lane. Seems like they are doing well as each time we do pass by them, seem to be long waiting lines. We lucked out that night and had little wait time. The drinks are always interesting to try and if you're into exploring new flavors. This would be the spot. Granted some were questionable to taste but overall, still enjoy the environment and drinks that were given. I would say at times it gets a bit rowdy when you want to talk among friends.

Their rules are very pretentious. It's not the workers fault but the owners from what I'm told. I came in with a date and before walking out saw a friend I knew in the back. I was asking if they were staying long or leaving and they told me they were closing their check as well, but then I was told I was not allowed to talk to them. I told the waiter I was just asking where they were going since I knew them and that I just closed my check and they were as we were speaking so we were all about to leave (like literally they guy had their check receipt in his hands). But then I was told I can't even talk to them or be near them because it would mean we are part of the same party then JUST because we happens to know them. Absolutely ridiculous. I love the drinks here and they weren't ever this bad but I think the owner just got pretentious post covid and relocating and the more popular this speakeasy got and went full blown outta hand ridiculous trying to be exclusive and pretend they're extra special. As much as I love their drinks humiliating me around people I came to say hello to after making eye contact and recognizing them is insane. Especially when we're all literally about to go out the door. So stupid This felt like segregation more than a sophisticated speakeasy. Read all the other reviews, you'll see a common theme comes up. If you sit solo at the bar, be careful not to be friendly or talk to anyone around you, they might kick you out! Maybe don't even talk to the host and be polite, they might think you know them too and they'll kick you out.. Good drinks aren't enough to change my mind now. Imagine being served a great tasting steak and then slapped and spit in the face after, would YOU COME BACK?

    Take you there

I got there at 6 pm on a Thursday and there was no line. This is my first time at the west village location. I kind of miss the old days. I miss the location in East Village where you had to go up the secret staircase. The place was a hole in the wall, but it was great. The new location is a lot more spacious and a more of a "real restaurant." There is actually a waiting room, instead of lining up on a narrow staircase, trying to avoid other people putting there names down for a coveted spot. The drinks are still amazing. One of the few places where cocktails are a craft and the money is worth it. I tried the Painted Paradise and the pandan flavor was legit. It was the first time that I tried something that tasted like it had pandan in it. Will definitely return.

Just really impressive cocktails. Normally I'm not into fancy cocktails but this bar really takes bartending to a new level. The waiters and bartenders are all equally well informed and will help you figure out a drink that matches your taste that evening! Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone is very friendly.

One of my favorite bars in NYC. I make an effort to come here whenever I'm back in town. Staff can rush you a bit. Normally there is a long wait outside so they try to move you quickly. Try all their different exotic and Asian experimental flavors!

A legendary Japanese cocktail bar in New York City -- known as the starting point for many renowned bartenders. With its speakeasy-style entrance, moody lighting, and striking mural, the space reflects a refined and thoughtful approach to interior design. The cocktails here are deeply rooted in Asian flavors, creatively crafted with impressive balance and nuance. Two standouts you absolutely must try are Painted Paradise and Papaya and Friends. Painted Paradise is a milk-washed cocktail featuring pandan, honeydew melon, and jasmine. It's light, floral, and dangerously drinkable -- I'd happily have ten if it weren't for the price tag. Papaya and Friends leans fruit-forward as well, but with a herbal twist -- notes of cilantro and pepper give it a distinctly Southeast Asian flair. Delicate touches of kaffir lime and lemongrass add subtle complexity without overwhelming the palate. This is the kind of bar I'd make a point to revisit every time I'm in the city -- a true gem for cocktail lovers.

Delicious drinks but quite expensive! On a weekend evening, my group of four waited almost two hours in line before being seated at a table. When we got close to the front of the line, we were able to wait inside in a dark room. The place itself is dimly lit; we had slight trouble reading the extensive menu but admired the many drinks that it offered. I ordered two drinks for the night. One was the Painted Paradise: its description including jasmine, lemon, and pandan milk intrigued me. The drink came out with a flower on top, and I loved the strength of the pandan taste. The drink looked slightly denser than water, which added to the texture of the drink. My friends ordered a strong drink where they poured "smoke" or "fog," and it was a fun aesthetic effect!

Very well made cocktails. As a visitor, I had no idea this was on the 2025 North American's 50 Best Bars list. Now that I know, I must say it is a very well deserved title. Their cocktails are so smooth and delicious. I only had appetite for one drink but I would've loved to order more. Very very nice ambiance, I had a great experience here. Service was quick as well. Would totally come back again!

The relocated Angel's Share is no longer a speakeasy hidden up the stairs of an izakaya, but now a nondescript bar with its own storefront. Even if they wanted to fly under the radar, the long line snaking out the front door and way down the block would give up its covert location anyway. While most lines in New York are hardly worth waiting in, I feel differently about Angel's Share. Sure, we are indeed spoiled for choice when it comes to magnificently mixed libations in this city, but wow none of them do it as well as Angel's Share. Years ago when I first had their drinks at their original Stuyvesant Street location, I didn't know drinks could sit on your tongue in such a way. Flavors like coriander infused reposado mixed with orange, passionfruit, and coconut milk reveal themselves on your palate in layers in "Fool Me Once." You can taste the butter in the fat washed Starward, as it mixes with the curry powder, aquafaba, pineapple, and apple spiced agave in the "Take You There." I'm glad that they don't really change up the menu much, because I do grow attached to these drinks, and it's not like I can just stop in whenever to have these drinks frequently. Going to Angel's Share is a bit of an ordeal. It's probably easiest to go right when they open at 5pm. I wouldn't even say the service is all that attentive, nor is there much in the way of food. But the drinks are a cut above the rest, and that's saying a lot for New York. Their spot on the World's Best 50 Bars list is warranted.

I came here on a Friday night around 8 pm. We were only a part of 2 and had to wait 5 minutes before we were seated. We were seated at the bar. And I'm so glad we were at the bar so we could watch them make the cocktails. Everyone was so professional and kind. The menu is organized by alcohol type. The drinks I got were both vodka based. I got the Fever cocktail and it was by far my favorite! I also got the Kat something drink. drinks are really good but the glasses they come in are not that big, so you're paying for quality not quantity! When we left, there was still a long line of people waiting to get in.

While I can't comment on the wine list personally, I know they are well-known for their extensive selection. After placing our order, we were delivered the sesame pizza bianca, which is a complimentary starter bread with dinner. The bread was a nice size and light and airy with a perfect crust and a delicious, crusty sesame seed bottom. The prawns were our starter and came three to a dish. They were sizable, though since they are served with the head and tail, there isn't a ton of meat on them. That said, they were flavorful and juicy with a nice sauce and just the right amount of spice that didn't overwhelm the fish. The snowdance chicken was the star of the show! It was incredibly juicy and tender with perfectly prepared skin, so I was happy to learn they keep this on the menu year-round. It was topped with some spinach that was solid, though nothing special. We also ordered a side of mushrooms which came with a creamy sauce and fish roe intended to be mixed at the table. The roe wasn't fishy at all but added a great element of umami to the flavorful, well-textured mushrooms. Overall, the service was very professional, though I thought the pacing could have been improved as the dishes came out a bit slowly. I would also recommend ordering at least two dishes per person, as the three plates we shared between two people felt like just a touch too little food. I'm already looking forward to going back--I'd try the winter chicories salad or the veal sweetbreads next time, but I'm open to exploring everything since the quality is so high. I noticed a side dish listed on their online menu that wasn't actually offered in person, so it might be worth double-checking if you have your heart set on a specific item.

I made reservations after seeing their special hot chocolate on social media and had a wonderful meal! Started off with the hiramasa which was fresh and went deliciously well with the citrus-y and sweet cara cara orange, as well as the aji peppers! The castelfranco chickory salad was fresh, crunchy, slightly creamy and slightly tangy - basically everything you need in an appetizing salad! Their house sesame bread was fluffy and chewy with a good amount of sesame flavor without having too many seeds. For mains, the farfelle was very interesting and tasty! The pasta was al dente and the sauce was addicting! At first I was wondering if it would resemble a nut butter, but it was creamy with very prominent walnut flavors and interesting texture (perhaps from the blended walnut skin component?). The addition of burrata and other cheeses was perfect for a cheese-lover like me. The pork chop was flavorful, well-seasoned, and juicy. The leek and cabbage mixture soaked up all the sauce and I wish there was more! Their special hot chocolate with an espresso martini marshmallow was fire!!!! Hot chocolate was decadent, not too thick, and not too sweet. The toasted marshmallow melted quickly but definitely had coffee and alcohol flavors. The amount per serving doesn't appear a lot but appropriate considering how rich it is. The mascarpone dessert had a great balance of fluffy cream, extremely crispy phyllo, and crunchy nuts with a touch of chocolate and vanilla! For drinks, I was really curious about the bi lemongrass but they ran out. Staff recommended the semiplume, which felt like a beer, tea, and sparkling wine all at once! Loved the floral aroma and bitter tea notes. My partner's cocktails were also well executed. Staff were nice and friendly. We got seats right by the kitchen so staff often checked in with us, including the chef!! Vibes were intimate with the dim lighting and minimalist decor. Definitely want to come back to check out their chicken and other dishes!!
