Excited for this new Smashburger spot that recently opened at south coast plaza! Love that it doubles as a konbini with fun snacks, drinks, and even alcohol! When I came they actually ran out of Smashburger so I was a bit disappointed! I ended up getting a chili dog and fries instead which was delicious but it took nearly 20 minutes for it to come out. If I knew it was gonna end up taking the same amount of time as a burger, I definitely would have went ahead and ordered the burger. I feel like 20 minutes for a chili dog was just too long :( The place is huge and there's definitely plenty of seating. My friends and I finally got a chance to try this. burger spot that was all over my page on social media! My first impressions walking in was that this place took me back to an old school diner- the checkered pattern and bright colors especially! The convenience store was nice with a good selection of Asian snacks. The cashier was nice and friendly and gave us good recommendations about the menu. We ordered the cheeseburgers and the fries. Excited to finally try this place. Nestled in and easy to park section in southcoast Plaza. Interior design is super cute and filled with decent amount if seating. They had a bunch of exotic snacks stocked up as well. Staff was really helpful at assisting us with our order. We tried the cheeseburger with chilling, Japan dog, tater tots with dill ranch (extra), and egg salad from the Grab n go section. Burger was solid. Tasty, caramelized onions and melted cheese. Chilli was tasty but super messy. Japan dog had a nice crisp skin, sauce and bonito flakes were fun and gave it a nice umami taste. They can cut if in half if you want to share. GET THE TOTS. Probably my favorite part of the meal. Super crispy outside and fluffy inside. They top it with this zesty salt and it's addicting. We opted the dill sauce add-on -- it's good but you don't need it. The Boudin space has been transformed. Since it's part convenience store, there are interesting things to look at while you wait for your food. It took about 15 mins to get my to-go order, and it was closer to closing. I can imagine it taking longer during the day. The burger was good and tasted fresh. However, there was no sauce offered, including for the tater tots. There was no ketchup dispenser or packets, at least, which you'd expect for a menu with burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Tiny's took over the Boudin spot at South Coast Plaza. My friend and I opted to go at opening for lunch on Saturday and there was a small line before the restaurant had even opened. I signed up for the rewards program through Toast before the visit. We got cheeseburgers, fries, tots, mac & cheese, sauce and dill ranch. The burgers dare I say are better than Father's Office. What got me here wasn't even the burger -- it was the fact that it was being described as a Japanese convenience store situation inside South Coast. I'm not a huge burger person. I like In-N-Out, I like a few smashburger spots, but I don't usually crave burgers. The convenience store concept and Japanese goods were what sold me. It also helps that this took over the old Forever 21 space, so parking was actually easy for once. You can park on the outside and walk right in without having to get swallowed by the mall, which already makes it more appealing. The branding here is really cute. Giant windows, deli-style counter, simple menu, clean color palette, cute dog theme -- the whole setup is just very well done. I also appreciated little details like the "fill your stupid water bottle here" sign. It's still pretty new, so it wasn't busy when I went, and service was good. I ended up trying a bunch of things because I'd heard the chef from Father's Office was behind it, and I've been wanting to try that burger forever. The cheeseburger was good -- pickles, caramelized onions, good bun, solid flavor. I only ate half because I was sharing, but I'd probably try a double next time since it wasn't huge. I also got the Tokyo dog, which was just okay for me. The hot dog itself had kind of a wrinkly/dried texture that I wasn't sure was intentional, and the sweet teriyaki-ish flavor on it was a little too sweet for me. Not terrible, just not something I'd reorder. The miso mac and cheese was really good though. Big noodles, fresh, not too heavy or overly rich. I also tried the **chili** because people said to get it. I'm not really a chili person, so I'm not the best judge, but it was all beef, rich, and definitely good for what it was. I just personally don't know what I'd do with chili beyond taking a few bites and saying "yep, that's good." I finished with the Straus soft serve, plain with no toppings. Since it's made with that Straus milk, the texture is a little different -- not that super smooth Pinkberry/Yogurtland type of soft serve. It had a slightly grainier, more natural dairy texture, but I still liked it. All in, trying a burger, dog, chili, miso mac, and soft serve came out to around $45, which honestly felt pretty fair for trying that much. I also appreciated small things, like them giving me separate spoons for the mac and cheese and chili so the flavors didn't mix. That kind of detail doesn't go unnoticed. Overall, I'd come back. I think I might have gone on an off day which I totally understand! And I'd totally be willing to give it another chance but for now, this is just my honest review. The salt and vinegar tater tots were good, but I didn't really taste any vinegar in them (I'm sure it's evaporated or something but I definitely think having extra vinegar would be great option!!) The cheese burgers were good! But I wished I could taste the sauce a little more in the burger. It's thin, and packed with the "powders". Garlic and onion powder. Lots of chives. Eaten with the fries, it's a pretty salty combo. But it's a lip smacking msg addictive ranch dressing. I'll give them that. Ok. Now the burger. I was skeptical at this point. But wow. It's amaze amaze amaze. $10. Not too bad. It is about a "six biter" for me. So a a bit on the smaller side. It doesn't do anything for it - you taste it very slightly. The salt and vinegar tots and dill ranch were the stars of the show. Cute Place, Great Branding... But the Food Needs to Calm Down We had high expectations for this place. We were actually looking forward to the opening. Cute logo, cute name, simple burger joint concept, burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, melts, fries, tots. What could go wrong? Well... apparently, quite a few things. The menu is simple, which I actually like. The prices, however, are not quite as simple to swallow. But it's at South Coast Plaza, so you expect a little "South Coast Plaza tax." We ordered the burgers, hot dog, tots, and fries. The burger: The burger patty is dry-aged, which immediately gets my attention. Unfortunately, the restaurant apparently decided that nobody should actually be able to taste it. The burger comes absolutely drenched in their sauce. The grilled onions are good, the bun is excellent, and somewhere underneath all of that is supposedly a dry-aged beef patty. I say "supposedly" because the sauce is doing its best to erase all evidence and dripping all over the table. It's not a bad burger. It's just difficult to appreciate the beef when you're basically eating a sauce delivery system. My recommendation: order one burger the way they make it so you can try the original, then order another with just the patty and cheese, with ketchup and mustard on the side. That way you can actually taste the meat and decide which version you prefer. The fries: $6 for frozen fries? Come on. At that price, I expect the fries to have their own LinkedIn profile. You can get better fries at In-N-Out, where they are made from fresh potatoes. These aren't terrible, they are just nowhere near good enough to justify six bucks. The tots: Now we are talking. The salt-and-vinegar tots were probably the highlight of the meal. Crispy, flavorful and actually worth getting. If I were going back, the tots would be on the short list. The hot dog: The hot dog is $8, and honestly, the bread is the best part. That's a problem. For $8, I expect the hot dog to make me forget about Costco's $1.50 all beef dog with a refillable drink. Instead, Costco started looking pretty good. And let's be clear: it's not really the price that's bothering me. I am perfectly willing to pay a premium when the quality is there. The problem is paying a premium and not getting anything that feels particularly premium. The market: They also have a cute little market, which is a fun touch. And, naturally, the prices continue their South Coast Plaza education. The chips are expensive. The drinks are expensive. Most of it doesn't feel particularly premium for the price. That said, they do have some interesting and harder to find items from Japan and Korea, so it's worth browsing. The tiny elephant in the room The restaurant itself is tiny. And so are the tables. This becomes particularly entertaining when you realize the size of the trays and how much food you are expected to put on them. If you have a group, prepare to negotiate tray space like it's a UN summit. Would I go back? Probably not. But I do recommend trying it once. The concept is fun, the branding is great, the tots are genuinely good, and the bun on the burger and hot dog is excellent. Just don't expect the dry-aged beef to get much screen time. The sauce has the starring role, the bun is the supporting actor, and the beef is somewhere in the background trying to get a word in. Overall: Cute concept, good branding, a few solid items, but the prices are difficult to justify for the quality. And somebody needs to have a serious conversation with that sauce bottle. P.S. we paid $87 for 4 burgers, 2 fries, 1 tater tots, 1 hotdog, 1 chicken nuggets and a bottled drink. Ironically, you could spend the same amount, or even less, at Calo Kitchen across from Tiny's and get what I would consider restaurant quality food. The cheeseburger had a clean, savory taste without being greasy-almost like eating a sandwich. Notably, the burgers are made with dry-aged patties and feature 'Tiny's Sauce'-- a blend of gochujang (Korean chili paste), ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and mustard--to highlight Korean flavors. Overall, a great burger place to try! Not sure why people keep coining it as a "Japanese burger". It's a convenient store that carries Asian snacks with a burger/ hot dog spot inside. The interior setup is odd--it looks like a mini convenience store mixed with an outdoor street food stand. Unfortunately, the food was a huge letdown First, the burger was mushy and poorly seasoned. The caramelized onions made the whole burger soggy. The pickles were plentiful, but had zero tangy or refreshing flavor, and the lettuce was just a single, paper-thin slice. The beef patty itself was dry, and the whole burger lacked proper seasoning. The sides were even worse. Both the Salt & Vinegar Tots and fries were overwhelmingly, aggressively salty. It felt like eating a mouthful of pure salt. We forced ourselves to finish them, but my mouth was left tingling and my blood pressure felt like it was skyrocketing. We also paid $1 each for sauces, and the "Tiny House Sauce" was a mystery. The food is pretty good but the prices are crazy and not really worth it!!!! I've tried a few things. I've had the dole whip which is good but $7 for a little soft serve is insane. I've had the burger and I'd say that is prob the one thing that could be closer to worth the money. Their hot dog which is $12 is really good but not worth $12 maybe 2 for $12 . The tuna melt that is canned tuna on two pieces of basic white bread with some American cheese is $14 and doesn't even come with a side or anything which is insane!! I know prices are higher now but this food is not worth these prices. I looked at the things in the fridge too and priced way too high. This place is good but not worth the $$$. If it was priced decent I'd give a 4.5 stars. I won't be back because it's just too expensive for what it is. If food is priced higher it has to be really worth it to me. read more

My husband and I loved this place! We got cheeseburgers, fries, tots, and vanilla soft serve and everything was delicious! My toddler loved the little convenience store entrance and got a little toy dumpling which was so cute. Staff was friendly and helpful with ordering too. read more

Great little spot for a quick lunch. SCP definitely needed something like this. The burgers are pretty tasty although I wished they added tomatoes. The hotdogs are on the saltier side especially when adding chili, but I do recommend getting their chili - maybe with just the fries. The tuna melt was also very good, with the right amount of tuna and mayo. I hate it when places pack in the tuna and it gets nasty soggy. Dole whip is a yes, to finish up this unhealthy but tasty meal. Lastly, the service has been really really good here! They're all super friendly and focused on making sure you enjoy your time. Today (Thursday, August 4th at 5pm), the guy at front (maybe the manager) was especially attentive and made sure my kid enjoyed her time. He was also ready with our dole whip at the end of our meal to make sure she wasn't waiting too long. Super awesome guy. Tiny's is a fantastic fusion spot! We got there around 6:30 on a Friday night and were greeted by Jake at the register, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. Since it was our first time, he walked us through the menu and gave us some great recommendations. We ended up ordering the hot dog, burger, chili dog, nuggets, and the salt & vinegar tots, basically everything Jake suggested lol, and we're so glad we listened! The salt & vinegar tots were absolutely bomb, and he was spot-on about the Tiny sauce. It's a balance of creamy texture and complex flavor that really sets it apart. It's rare to come across someone who is this friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited about the food they serve. We had never been to a place e like this before and Jake's helpfulness in guiding us and excellent customer service turned what would have been a good meal into a great experience. I like to support new businesses but this new concept does not work for me; as a local I don't see how putting a convenience store at one of the entrances of SCP is a great addition. SCP was a high-end luxury shopping mall but in the last few years it turned into a food court mall with fast food. I stopped by during lunch today; got a feeling of walking into a 7-Eleven. I ordered a Tokyo dog and a cup of chili. They have a lot of chips and drinks in the fridge. The dog was salty and the chili was too creamy and bland for my taste. I don't see myself going back here to try other items. But I do really hope they will do well in the future. read more

My first time visiting this place. I ordered a chili cheese dog and a Stella to wash it down. The atmosphere was fine and the menu was pretty basic. For the price of the dog I expected a good quality cheese to adorn the top but found a sloppy cheese sauce. The taste was okay but it didn't make me feel like I couldn't wait to come back. Overall, I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed either. Worth a try if your in the area hopping and have a hankering for a dog or burger but don't make a special trip. read more
