Must order the chicken sandwich when you come to Bao Chick. It is perfectly seasoned and the portion size is ridiculous. Stopped by during the lunch hour after seeing social media posts about this hidden gem. I order the double chicken sandwich and although in the pricey side ($20) it is a must try. The chicken is crispy and flaky on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I've had plenty of chicken sandwiches in my day and this is top 3, no question. Ordering was quick and I was able to score some sample dumplings from the cashier while I waited. This is in a food court so the eating area is shared with other eateries. Get here early during lunch time if want to get a parking spot. It gets crowded.
Got Bao Chick takeout and it is a very unique chicken sandwich. The flavor is very good and the crunch is insane. Its also huge, the picture doesn't do it justice. Fries were also super tasty. One critique would be that the chicken still had the fat on it, which made some bites chewy. Overall I'd return and eat again!
Unbelievable!!! The best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. I got the original chicken sandwich and I'm blown away. They give you the option of getting a breast or a thigh, which I thought was very unique! It was so juicy and flavorful and I'm not sure what the coating is on the chicken but even with the mayo the crunch held up nicely!! Now I thought my regular sandwich was big but oh man did we learn it's not! My husband thought the insane chicken sandwich meant it was spicy but no it meant TWO chicken patties on the sandwich! It was huge!!!! It comes with the same option of breast or thigh, however the original sandwich when you order, you have the option of how spicy you were like the chicken but the insane sandwich does not offer that which my husband took as confirmation that it was their spicy sandwich but it was not spicy at all. Just something to keep in mind! Still a great sandwich! We also got the grilled Bao & Pork and another 10/10! Again, the words flavorful comes to mind when describing these! If you're gonna come, I definitely recommend these as well as the sandwich! We made our meals a combo, which let us get the macaroni and cheese and the french fries. Nothing stands out too much about those two sides. They were very standard. Very good, but nothing very wow. Especially compare to the mains! The service was quick and easy. You come order at the self order kiosk or the gentlemen at the register, you get given a buzzer and you'll just wait. I would say that amount of time that we waited was only 10 minutes at most! This is just a small restaurant in a whole cafeteria, so keep that in mind when you go! It wasn't too hard to find seating but this place is definitely packed! Bao chick was a amazing found! This place is definitely getting recommended anytime someone's ask me what's good to eat in the area!
The chicken dumplings were the star of the meal. Super juicy with a great meat-to-skin ratio. The filling was very well seasoned, and the dumpling skin was thin but sturdy enough that it didn't rip easily. The wasabi fried chicken was also really good. Made fresh to order (about 15-20 minutes), and it came out extremely juicy and well seasoned. The wasabi flavor didn't really come through, but the portions were huge! Definitely a great place for shareables!
Best service I've ever had. Before I even ordered, the guy working there gave me a sample of the chicken. I ended up ordering the Chicken Sandwich and Garlic Parmesan Fries. He also made sure we were eating everything with the sauce and seasoning that came with it. You could tell he was genuinely passionate about the food and took pride in the store, and that's what made the experience stand out to me and makes me want to come back. The portions were huge. Everything was good, and the chicken was super crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I'd definitely come back and bring my friends.
I was born in China, so I'd say I'm pretty confident in being able to judge a Chinese food. This is easily one of the BEST Chinese food in all of SoCal. I'm shocked they aren't more famous. Both times I've been here the owner (I think it's him) sees me and before I can even finish saying 你好 (nihao, hello) he's got a sample of dumplings in my hand. The dish I've pictured is something called Cold Lamb. A better translation would be "cold-prepared lamb" but don't let the name fool you, it will be one of the best things you've ever eaten. Huge portions of meat, slathered in chili oil, with sliced cucumbers and lots of roasted peanuts. Then there's the amazing chili oil dipping sauce and a dipping powder that Im going to be thinking about for weeks. This meal was about 30 bucks but it comes with so, so much food that you could easily split it between two people. Will definitely be coming here any time I'm at SNA!

The Chinese couple running the stall were quite enthusiastic in getting people to sample their fried chicken. I ended up ordering the lamb soup ($16) and a large fried chicken fillet ($9). After paying at the counter and taking a pager, I got my order after another 5 minutes. The husband running the stall (I assume) explained, with the same enthusiasm as before, which chili oil was for the soup and which was for the chicken. The lamb soup proved savory and flavorful without being too heavy. It was a touch oily, but easily cut with the bowl of rice. The soup contained plentiful protein, from lamb meat to stomach and other offal. The fried chicken filet lived up to its name. The meat remained juicy and tender throughout, The breading was flaky and buttery. It had a softer texture to it. I quite enjoyed it, though I definitely was already full from the soup. Overall, I would not have expected a food court stall to have such delicious food, especially one serving both fried chicken and lamb soup.

Located in a cute mini food court area, Bao Chick was one of the first to open and the dude who worked there was saying that he had #1 fried chicken wings and I was skeptical but intrigued. Ordered the wings, some XLBs and potstickers and didn't have to wait too long for them. Homeboy was right- these were some of the best wings I've had! Crispy crunchy piping hot juicy flavorful without being too salty. Also the dumplings were fire especially those juicy XLBs and the made from scratch potstickers. Wish it was closer to me- I'd be there every day for lunch!

The lamb soup was a standout: super flavorful with tender pieces of lamb that melt in your mouth. The Shanghai soup dumplings were perfectly juicy, and the fried chicken wings were everything you want them to be -- crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. On top of the great food and warm service, the place is also dog-friendly, which is such a bonus. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

Turns out, he's quite the talker and has a great sense of humor! He didn't know who "鸡排哥" (the Chicken Guy meme) was, but he speaks both English and Chinese, so we had a fun little bilingual chat I ordered chicken tenders, wings, and a fried chicken sandwich, and my kids absolutely loved them. My older one even asked if we could make it a weekly thing! The fried chicken isn't greasy at all -- just crispy outside, juicy inside, and super flavorful. If you like a kick, try it with their chili powder And here's the surprise -- they also serve soup dumplings and lamb soup! I even saw some locals ordering the dumplings. In a situation... where I'm craving Chinese food, but my husband wants fried chicken. Then suddenly, you get a sample. And...it turns into a full meal. Started off with this fully stuffed grilled bao. The soul? This house-made chili oil. It pairs surprisingly well with their crispy fried chicken. And their chicken wings too! A multipurpose chili oil! This is a giant "Number One" Chicken Burger that the owner is very proud of. Somehow they nailed both Chinese food and American fried chicken. Oops... almost forgot their xiao long bao! Juicy and comforting! To end this unexpected feast? A bowl of lamb soup, which I personally think pairs surprisingly well with their fried chicken sandwiches! I've tried basically every fried chicken spot in OC and this has to be the best so far especially if you like crispy fried chicken. Best crispiness by far. The owner is nice and gives everyone free samples. He always says "chicken numba one!" And it's true. They have some other things but what stands out the most is their fried chicken, the portions are big for the price, and they have the biggest chicken sandwich around. Great value. Came again hungry. Husband got the fried chicken. He loved it. He said this is probably the only place he will get fried chicken from again. Garlic fries were great (with my draft beer from bar). Service good. It was a quiet Saturday. Came after church about 5:30pm. read more

We wanted to go to HiroNori but the waitlist was an hour long. So we ended up coming to this food hall. It's very casual inside. A few tables and a few places to eat. We all got what we wanted. We had a sample of the chicken. The guy at the front is passing them out to everyone! Mine was cold but it was still pretty good so we ordered the chicken. They made it fresh so it took some time for the food to be ready. Came out piping hot! I also ordered the garlic aioli which went well with the chicken. The spicy dipping oil and powder were also great! Highly recommend! Will go back! read more

Food was INSANE, portion was also INSANE! The seasoning was perfectly salty and umami, spiciness was not too spicy but the right balance. Spicy powder can also be requested on the side to adjust to your taste. The chicken sandwich was MASSIVE, the filet was larger than the buns itself. The fried chicken filet and popcorn chicken was crispy and not too much breading, every bite has the perfect ratio! Since it is at the foodcourt there are lots of seating and the area is super clean. Service from the owner himself was also great! 10/10 read more

The food was okay, but the service was amazing. The old man running the booth was so sweet and kind and offered us extra sauces and samples of the food while ordering. Nothing against the food, but it all tasted heavily deep-fried and stale. Other than that, I loved the ambience of the food plaza, food was told if ready through a buzzer and seating was in an outside but enclosed area with nice lighting. read more

Came here for lunch and was greeted by the owner! We appreciated his zeal and pride he has in his chicken! So of course I got the signature chicken sandwich. He allowed us to sample full dumplings and strips of chicken. We got two orders of dumplings, the soup dumplings, a double patty burger, fries, and a chicken sandwich. The fries were perfectly crispy, and so was everything! I was amazed at how large my sandwich was, definitely something that I could have shared between me and my aunt. We got to enjoy the meal in their shared patio. Overall, we would come again for the incredible service and fried chicken. It was surely #1! read more
Bao chick...such a great name...but makes me think of funky disco music...not food... Makes me think of a song....it goes... "Bao chick a bao wow"! I have been to this food court a few times now. This booth is interesting. They have tried to reinvent themselves a few times. But I know this...they try very hard to get you to buy. I have only purchased one item when I come here. Xiao Long bao Everytime I have been, it looks like they are hard at work making dumplings, so I am guessing they are hand made, but I can't be sure. The dumplings are good....solid! Not heavy on the soup. Definitely more juicy than soupy. The flavor is good and has enough taste to get it again The main positive factor on these dumplings is the price. This booth has done a great job at keeping the price fairly reasonable. I will be back to try the bao and the chick...but if you see me walking up, dont laugh if you see me dancing... Ordered the teriyaki sandwich, beer battered fries along with grilled pork baos. The latter two were absolutely delicious. Loved how perfectly crispy the fries were and flavorful the dumplings were. I was extremely disappointed by the chicken teriyaki sandwich, however. I saw the pool of lettuce/ chicken juice as soon as I opened the box and knew I was in for a disgusting mess. The sandwich buns were completely soaked and soggy. Just wet all around. Not sure how and what happened to it in such a short period of time before I left the store to sit down and eating. Parking is free and easy. The service was prompt and very friendly. There are seats inside and outside of the food hall type area. I wouldn't mind trying them out again based on the experience I had during pickup and quality of other products I got to enjoy. read more

The chicken sandwich combo is pretty pricey at around $20 , but the portions are big and definitely filling. The food is super fresh, very crunchy, and juicy -- honestly worth it. Tried BaoChick back in Dec 2022 and had a great experience! However, I tried it again and my experience was a bit different. I'm thinking my experience was not as good perhaps because we ordered on Doordash. I'm thinking maybe the food would have been better if we got to eat it fresh. I tried the Original Chicken Sandwich, Nashville Chicken Sandwich, Garlic Parmesan Fries, and Grilled Baos with Pork. In terms of the sandwich, we found them to be a bit heavy and very greasy/oily. The crunch on the chicken was VERY GOOD and the chicken itself was tender/juicy. But it was hard to eat more than half of the sandwich as it was really heavy. I wish the Nashville sandwich was spicier too. The baos tasted pretty standard. The fries were good! I wish they were a bit crispier, but I liked the flavor! It reminded me of Potato Corner Overall, not my favorite crispy chicken sandwich! But I definitely think it would've been better fresh read more

Giving 3 stars for the food and setting, and an extra star for the super friendly owner. The owner was really welcoming. We were still browsing the menu when he handed each of us a big pan-fried dumpling to try. He also brought over their house-made chili oil and had us smell it--probably to show off how fragrant it was! The dining area is semi-outdoor with some overhead cover, but the sun still hits the whole space. On a hot summer day, it gets really warm and a bit uncomfortable to sit through a meal. We ordered the xiaolongbao, which were actually pretty good--thin skin, juicy filling, nice flavor. The lamb soup, on the other hand, was a letdown. The broth was tasty, but the lamb itself was super tough and hard to chew. The lamb soup set came with a milk tea, which was bland and not enjoyable. We also tried the sweet soy milk--it was just okay. One small issue: you can't choose hot or cold for the drinks. So under the blazing sun, sipping hot drinks made the whole experience a bit sweaty and tiring. read more

Tucked away in the corner of a food hall in Irvine is Bao Chick. Their menu is small but mighty and focuses on baos (dumplings) and chicken! I basically ordered half the entire menu, so here's what to get and what to skip. If you come here for one thing and one thing only, it's gotta be their chicken sandwich. Photos don't even do this justice. It's an absolute BEHEMOTH of a sandwich with the crunchiest chicken. They use the same kind of batter for the crispy wings, and they also have a new item, lamb soup, which is SO aromatic with generous pieces of tender lamb, highly recommend. I came back as second time because of the fried chicken. OMG, I have never been a fan of any fried chicken until I tasted his fried chicken, it's amazing delicious. It's very crunchy and juicy. It took me 30 minutes to drive back home. Once we go home, the fries were amazingly still fresh and crunchy. The chicken is also still warm and juicy and warm. The technique how to fry this chicken is phenomenal. My kids like everything. I am sure coming back again. I went at noon time, the parking is unpacked, which the evening is very hard to get a pot. read more

The chicken is super fresh and crispy, and seems like the hit item here. I also enjoyed the lamb soup, particularly the soup part with rice. I'm not as huge a fan of lamb but it tastes better dipped in chili oil. Lastly we tried the Xiao long bao just because and it was one of the best XLB I've had. The skin was thin but strong and didn't break while picking it up. The soup and meat filling was delicious!! I would actually come back just for the xiao long bao by itself because of how good it is. Do you serve bone in wings? Dry rub flavors at all?
Yes. All of our wings are bone in. Most of them are crispy crunch style. Also we have teriyaki and buffalos wings are grill style.
Do you plan to serving strips/fingers/tenders?
Hello! We do serve chicken strips in store. It’s our hand crafted chicken strips.
Is this inside a business complex?
Yes! It’s in the food hall area of the plaza.
