I love checking out new places to eat in the area. Tilly Kitchen took over the old Ruby Tuesday spot in Sully Plaza. They new space is very modern and spacious. They have another location called Pike Kitchen in MD. It is supposed to be a food hall and you order at the counter and there are plenty of tables throughout where you seat yourself. There is still construction going on inside and outside. Looks like the center of the establishment will be some kinda coffee/pastry counter. Arrived for lunch soon after their opening time so it was still pretty empty inside. Ordered two entrees: curry udon w/ an addition of chashu and army stew. They page you when your food is ready for pickup at the counter. I noticed they were missing my chashu so I had to ask about that. The army stew was decent and it's a big portion enough to feed two people. The curry udon was a tad on the sweeter side. It also only has a few strips of tofu so you'll have to add some kinda meat if you want more protein. Overall, I can see this place having potential to grab a quick bite to eat. read more

We were happy with our carry out order! We tried four things: the spicy chicken bao buns, the sunrise roll, the spicy salmon tempura roll, and the dragon roll. The sunrise roll was our favorite- it was nice and crunchy, I haven't had many rolls like it before. The spicy chicken bao buns also had great flavor, although some kind of sauce would've made them perfect. The salmon tempura roll and dragon roll were good, but not standouts to us. This is an okay place to hang with family & friends. Spacious open floorplan & it gets crowded, rather noisy when busy, especially on the weekends. Food is a bit pricey (but isn't everything in this economy right now?) and not a wow for my taste buds. Don't get me wrong, the food tasted good, but this wouldn't be my first choice for bibimbap...more like my 3rd or 4th just because it was open & I was nearby. The bowl felt assembled and not cooked to order, if you know what I mean. The ingredients didn't really create a medley of yum. While it looked kinda pretty, and I was starving and appreciated the sustenance, I would not go out of my way to eat here for both the food & prices. Bottom Line: Curious to try this joint? My husband ordered rice with pork, eel rolls, and seafood udon. It was good. Something new for us to try. Fried pork was kind of soggy but crunchy as I thought. I need a little more sauce for rice and fried pork. Eel rolls were really good and flavorful. Seafood udon was pretty much the same as regular udon except seafood flavor. Service was great. They bring out the food for us instead we go get it on our own. They even clean up after us too. Normally with places like this it would expect us to clean up on our own but they were nice enough to offer clean up for us. Place really nice and trendy. Very interesting design. First the place is super cute, there is plenty of room to sit and some semi private spaces which is pretty cool, bathroom is nice and clean which is always a good sign. The owner looks around every now and then to make sure all is well and I appreciate that. The atmosphere is kinda like a canteen. You buy the food, and bring it back to your table yourself. Food is delicious! Boyfriend and I got the donkatsu to try, the rice part was so small but the meat is huge LOL and the slaw was fantastic. def one of the best slaws I've had! The food was amazing considering how big of a menu they have! The food portions were big for the price we paid. Especially, the spicy seafood soup! It had so much seafood in it. Semicolon's kitchen closes at 730pm so I ordered dinner from Tilly Kitchen. I will say TK will not leave you without - they have a huge assortment of items from sushi to noodle soups to bibimbaps. I got the katsu + curry, pork belly buns and onigiri. The curry was tasty but the katsu was quite dry. The buns and pork belly lacked flavor (I recommend dipping it in the curry if you find yourself in a similar situation). Onigiri was a challenge to unwrap. I've eaten many an onigiri but for whatever reason the rice stuck to the wrapping and made it a very messy ordeal. Overall food was ok - not horrible but nothing to write home about. Notably the kitchen was slammed so it may have been an off-meal to rate them by. We came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't busy at all. The staff is friendly and the place was clean. There are a ton of options so if your group can't decide what to eat or you just want some Asian cuisine, it might be a good place to try. The Semicolon sandwich shop in the front closed 1.5 hours before the store closing which was disappointing. They did have some desserts available so I got the banana pudding and it was so good! The food we had was super underwhelming. The pork belly was good, but it wasn't something I would come back for. It had a good kick to it and a lot of radish (my fav). The chicken bites were dry and tasted like they were fried and then re fried to warm up so it wasn't good at all. The bao buns were soft and the bulgogi wasn't flavorful. Long overdue post. Came here with family for a Friday night dinner. Layout of the restaurant is fantastic. Outdoor seating was a plus especially with the weather cooling down and the sun slowly setting. Curry Pork Katsu had a small kick and wasn't super heavy for a fried cutlet. The spicy seafood noodle definitely emphasized the spicy and the portion is on par/better than other korean-chinese fusion restaurants. Lastly the chicken bites were great to share and carried on same strong flavor profile as the other dishes. The restaurant's exterior doesn't even come to close to the vibe that's inside. Chicken Teriyaki Bibop Bowl: I'm always in the mood for a big fat bowl of rice, meat, and veggies so I'm happy that Tilly's Kitchen had various rice bowl options. Isn't the flower so cute? Lowkey thought it was edible. What I loved most was how there was a perfect amount of sauce so that when you mixed all the contents everything was nicely coated. The veggies were fresh and I believe were marinated/stir fried prior to being added to the bowl. The chicken was okay - reminded me of Panda Express chicken. The fried egg was a great addition and wasn't too runny. The miso soup was a pleasant surprised and tasted amazing as always. Overall a very delicious bowl! Matcha Bingsoo: Decided to give Semicolon a second chance and I definitely think they deserved it. I actually got to enjoy the bingsoo this time because it wasn't melted! I found you that you definitely need to mix everything together because the mascarpone cream on the top can be a bit overwhelming. The matcha is for sure better than the black sesame - the flavor was widely present but not overly bitter. New Asian food hall located in Chantilly and serving a variety of Asian foods, mainly Korean and Japanese. Their menu, as well as the inside the restaurant is huge. We tried some of our favorite Asian dishes twice. The creamy spicy ramen was creamy, with a kick, and good with the bacon bits. I haven't had bacon with my ramen before and it added a nice meaty texture. We really like the salmondon as it had buttery and decent size pieces of salmon, along with good sushi rice. The chicken katsu had thinly cut pieces of crispy, tender chicken. And the beef soondubu was flavorful and comforting. My little one loved the chicken katsu so much, she asked for it the following weekend which means another trip back! The wait times for takeout can take about 15-25 mins depending on the number of items you ordered. They have a common dining area and enclosed space if you want more privacy. Not sure if you reserve this rooms for special occasions. This was my first visit. The staff person I talked with said that the cafe had been open for five or six months. The big sign outside says "Tilly Kitchen" but some of the signs in the window say "Semicolon cafe". This location seems to be two restaurants in one. One part is the "Tilly Kitchen" (i.e., with a big sign that reads "Savory") with a more traditional menu of various Asian foods (e.g,, Japanese dishes and sushi, Korean dishes, and Vietnamese Pho and the other is the "Semicolon Cafe" (i.e., the big sign that reads "Sweet") with more of a snack menu Ordering is done by going to the counter, ordering, paying and then being given a beeper. But the person at the Tilly Kitchen who took my order, brought my food to the table. I guess being one of only a few Caucasians customers made it easier for her. For a first visit, I had the Udon noodles with pork belly. It tasted good and also tasted authentic like I was back in Japan. I look forward to returning and trying other items on both menus. OK, so why only four stars? I came because I wanted to try he Bulgogi sandwich. The staff person said, "We no longer have that" and I was at the "Tilly Kitchen" counter. But, when I sat down, I saw the "Semicolon cafe" menu and it had the Bulgogi sandwich. Perhaps a little better coordination is needed. Hence, only four stars. read more

I would say this establishment is very middle of the road in terms of taste; nothing that was a standout but that is expected with a menu that is so vast. If you want to eat ramen, go to a Japanese ramen shop. If you want to eat a nice Korean soup, go to a local Korean soup restaurant. If you want to have excellent sushi, go to an expensive Japanese omakase restaurant. You get my point. The sushi set I ordered, the rice seemed overly sweet which was a bit bizarre but I can't really complain as it was so inexpensive. I know what I'm getting at this price point as I have dined at the most expensive omakase restaurants in the USA. Generally uninspired sushi but again, you must think of the price point and diversity of the vast menu options. The ramen was mediocre and didn't have the rich, well-developed taste (deep umami) that you have from a traditional ramen shop. If you want a vast menu that has mediocre items to please many different people without the most refined palate, this is the spot. read more

When reading the description of this hot new restaurant I really wasn't too sure what to think, was it cafeteria style , was it sit down and be served , was it all Asian etc. I had so many questions so I decided I needed to go check this place out! The space - shiny and new! Picnic style wooden benches ( made of much higher quality wood that's more comfortable) are neatly in rows all separated enough apart to allow for more intimate conversation or too squish ur group in to stuff their faces! I loved that there is this fancy water fountain station which also houses all the forks , spoons , chopsticks , napkins , soy sauce and straws you could ever possibly need . The menu and ordering station are at the back of the restaurant and are presented on face written boards above the registers . But no worries , if you are old like me they got regular menus near by so you can read closer to your face . You simply walk to the back and place your order ! The food- holy moly choices galore ! Japanese ( the seafood udon noodle soup was amazing , packed with seafood, for 15 dollars and was enough for 2 if sharing other plates too) , all sorts of sushi and sashimi offerings , Vietnamese ( pho), Korean , and even some Katsu with curry sauce and Hawaiian Poke . I ordered a small side salad that was perfectly shredded iceberg lettuce and came with some super yummy peanut dressing . It was enough to feed 2 people for 4 dollars. The sushi and sashimi were all beautifully presented, not a piece of rice out of place !! For the quality and amount of food I think this place represents an exceptional value. And because of the kitchen cafeteria type style of the eatery , it can be a perfect affordable dinner for an intimate date ( where ur not trying to break the bank ) or for a friends, family casual dinner gathering . We ordered the - kimchi fried rice: okay but needed sat - soy garlic chicken bites: good, predictable - okonomiyaki: not traditional, more crust/overcooking than expected - rose tteokbokki: decent, doesn't beat the rose tteokbokki at Khan - pork belly bao buns: small for price; buns felt microwaved / not fresh We did enjoy the wooden tables with optional, private rooms for large groups. The grey theme accented by plants around the shop were comforting. Note: they just opened a separate fluffy egg shop called semicolon in the middle of the restaurant. Tilly Kitchen is a new fusion eatery that opened up off of Metrotech - I was a little surprised with the space, as it looked like a food court/food hall of some sort, but it seems as if they have the whole space to themselves! The menu is super extensive - small bites (edamame, fried calamari, cream cheese dumplings, etc.), bar bites (chicken cupbop, TK bulgogi sub, TK chicken teriyaki sub, etc.), rice dishes, Korean and Japanese entrees, ramen, sushi and rolls. They also have specials of the day, so check their menu behind the sushi counter. We came here for a later lunch, and we ordered: +the Kimchi & Spam Onigiri - this was just okay; I was a little surprised at how sweet it was; not sure if the rice was overly seasoned with sugar; the kimchi was fermented enough, and there were little cubes of Spam - I think the Spam could have been sauteed a bit to make it a bit more crispy to give it more flavor; I did appreciate that there wasn't too much rice +Jjajangmyun - this was pretty good! The noodles were chewy and were not overcooked, and the fact that this wasn't a gahn jajang and is a regular version, the sauce was thick and flavorful; the veggies and the meat were also plentiful and not at all dried out +the Seared Wagyu Ramen - wasn't a fan of this; the wagyu was served at a rare (as it should be), and the curly noodles were al dente; the broth itself tasted off, and I just wasn't a fan of the peppery-focused thinness of it +Red Dragon Roll - maki roll filled with shrimp tempura, cucumber, crab stick, and mayo, and topped with spicy tuna, crunchy sweet potato, green onions, roe, spicy mayo, and eel sauce; I didn't see or taste any of the sweet potatoes; the spicy tuna could have been more fresh There was a mistake of receiving the wrong maki roll at first, in which the staff were super apologetic. I order the JiangJiangmei here, cali roll, and titikboki. The tikiboki was good but the portion here was extremely small for the price point. I wouldnt recommend ordering that due to the low quantity you get for paying $10. The sushi is okay -- nothing fancy and standard sushi you can get just about anywhere. It's hard for it all to be good, and when we had passed by, the outside patio is still under construction. The food was soo good. The takoyaki was steaming hot and perfect. Huge octopus pieces inside. The ramen was beyond expectations (mainly bc it isn't a ramen restaurant.) It fulfilled my needs but wasn't the best #1 item. Only real complaint is that the onigiri filling was bland for the rice. The Rainbow Roll and Caterpillar Roll were way overpriced for the amount given. They didn't taste bad but weren't anything special either, and cost $13, $14 for 6 small pieces each. Service/Experience: 4 stars Clean/modern interior with plenty of seating inside and parking outside. They are still doing some construction on the outside but they are open. No issues/problems with the service, as they took our orders in the front and the food was ready in a reasonable time. Really loving this new Asian food hall! I've been a couple of times now, once during lunch hours and once for dinner, and I've been impressed with the food quality and the cleanliness of the space both times. Perfect for if you're craving some Asian food with a larger group (they've got an EXTENSIVE menu) but don't want the busy/loud atmosphere of other food halls in the area. Loved their bao buns in particular and their sushi/sashimi, which is very reasonably priced for the DMV and comes with huge portions of fish. Their jjambbong was also packed with seafood and better than some of the other Chinese-Korean places I've been in the area. The owners were also super friendly and very helpful in trying to figure out what to order. It looks like they're going to be opening some dessert options too. Great hang out spot to meet friends. They have a huge menu so lots to try. They basically have everything to satisfy whatever you're craving. They serve a variety of Korean dishes, Japanese bento style items, small snacks like onigiri and seasoned fries. Their noodle soups: ramen, udon, jiampong and pho are all good. Sushi here is also good. Didn't love the bao bun or the chicken bites but that's not a deal breaker for me to not come back and keep trying new things. Just noticed recently that they do sell some alcohol items like Sapporo and Drunk Fruit hard seltzer in their drink case.
