Jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk is peak comfort food for me so I'm always looking for it. I'll admit, I'm very picky since I'm always comparing it to my fave spot (which sadly is in another state) but I try not to let that affect my judgment too much. The tangsuyuk here is the closest I've come to my fave so far with great batter and crispiness. The sweet and sour sauce was thicker and had less vegetables than I'd like but was still good and I appreciated that it was served on the side without me having to ask. The Jajangmyeon wasn't speaking to me as much, but I still ate it! As someone who frequently dines solo, I really appreciated the combo menu options. It can be tricky to order Chinese or Korean food when a lot of places do family style portions for sharing. I often wind up with more food (and a bigger check) than I need for just me! I was able to walk in with no wait time around lunch time. Our waitress was attentive and even made suggestions to try some house dishes, definitely recommend trying at least 1. I came here for lunch and thought that it was a great Korean-Chinese restaurant! As someone from NYC, it's so difficult to find Korean-Chinese fusion dishes so when I found one while I was in Virginia, I was so happy! The restaurant is homey and casual, with great quick service. We ordered their special dumplings, jjajjangmyeon, tansuyuk, beef fried rice, and donkatsu. It was an all-around amazing meal. The dumplings were huge and saucy (despite being so red, they were actually fairly sweet). The jjajjangmyeon and tangsuyuk were hits and both delicious. I also loved how they gave black bean sauce and jjampong broth on the side for you to enjoy with your fried rice. The only dish that might've been a miss was the donkatsu as we thought it was a bit dry. We ordered takeout from here for a party several hours ahead of time on their website. While most of the food was pretty good (lo mein, fried rice, bulgogi), the spicy squid dish was disappointing. The sauce was watery, so most of the squid was unseasoned/didn't hold the sauce, and the squid had a more rubbery texture. The reason why I give 4 stars and not 3 is because the staff told us they lost our order, but were able to spin up the 5 dishes we ordered in record speed of under 7 minutes to get our pick-up order ready in time, which I really appreciated! My wife, two teenage sons, and I came here in early August 2025 for a Saturday night dinner. First, it's a clean, informal place that's family-friendly with lots of parking in a strip mall. The location is a few minutes south from the Lotte Plaza in Centreville - kind of close to the Route 29 and New Braddock Road intersection. Second, the Tang-Su-Yuk with pork was amazing - very tasty. The regular jja-jjang myun noodles were OK, but not particularly flavorful. One of my sons ordered the jjam-pong which he enjoyed a lot. I think it's probably better to dine-in at the restaurant because it's best to eat the Tang-Su-Yuk while it's hot. Third, the service was very good. After ordering within a few minutes of arriving, we were asked if everything was OK (or if we needed a refilling of water or the appetizer tray of yellow radishes and onions). TAKEOUT REVIEW : Ordered takeout for 2 for dinner. We ordered jjang meon, medium chicken tang su yuk, and combo b+c (fried tied and jjang meon). We picked up the food pretty quickly after it was called in and got home within 5 minutes. Noodles were already room temp when opened the takeout out. Jjang meon sauce was also not hot. This made for a barely warm bowl. The fried rice was good and had a nice smokey flavor. Chicken tang su yuk was very crispy and this was actually hot. Overall everything tasted good but the temperature was off for the noodle dish. Good fusion alternative to Jang Won for Korean Chinese Tried this place in March to venture out from Jang Won which is my go to Korean Chinese place in Centreville. Hao ru is easy to find and located in a quieter and smaller shopping center. The decor is straightforward and clean but nothing special. Clientele skews younger and appeared to be mostly Asian. Service is good with to the point interactions (I speak Korean so no language barrier). Got the fried dumplings to start (dumplings are large, crispy, and tasty), seafood jjam pong (stir the broth prior to eating since the broth tasted better on the bottom; some of the veggies in there were non traditional but hey it works), tang jja myun ie combo b + d (jja jang myun was a bit sweet for my liking but still good. Tang su yook was good), and khan poong shrimp (best dish of the spread. Shrimp was fresh and fried coating was perfectly chewy, spicy, and sweet). I think the flavors here are more fusion vs traditional korean chinese but enjoyed the dishes nonetheless. I liked the jjam pong better than the jja jang myun. Haoru is a family friendly restaurant that won't break your bank. There aren't too many Korean-Chinese food options in Centreville. I have tried Haoru for about 2 years now. I think the food, cleanliness and service was better in the beginning. I think it is the natural order of things for restaurants to get dirty over time, but there are improvements to be made in terms of cleanliness. The portion size is generous for a good price. I like their brisket Jjampong and gan jjajang. The tang su yuk here doesn't have a whole lot of batter around it so I appreciate that. You can either pour the sauce or dip the individual pieces based on your preference. Also, this is a tip: put some ice cubes in the pickled radish along with some vinegar. It'll make the radish crunchier. There are plenty of parking in the mall. read more

Ja jang meon tasted okay alongside the jjam pong, but I do wish the jjam pong had more vegetables/seafood with a richer broth. What I like about the black bean noodle is that there isn't an overload amount of onions and it had a slight sweetness to it. The seafood noodle was slightly spicy and savory! Came here on a Friday night looking to venture more into Korean Food. It was really a delight when the server immediately found a table for me once I sat down. The staff is really attentive so I do admire that if you need to flag down staff, pay your bill, ect. I got combo D consisting of Tangsuyuk and Fried rice. You get a lot for what you paid for! Tangsuyuk is crispy deep fried pork that comes with sweet and sour sauce for dipping ( or you could pour ). I really loved this dish as it's not too heavy on the batter but fried well where it's crispy, chewy, and with the sauce it's even better. The fried rice was also really good and is something I want to try by itself next time. It has a nice taste to it, especially if you are someone that likes that added wok hei flavor to it ( maillard reaction ). I just thought it was really delicious and paired with the Tangsuyuk it made me full! An amazing place if you like Korean-Chinese food. A hidden gem!! You might just be looking at a new go-to restaurant we're adding to our list! Hao Ru is a very casual spot to share some great foods with your family and friends. I say "share" because their portions are HUGE! I can guarantee you that you will be coming home with leftover haha. My jaw literally dropped when I saw our food coming out. We decided to order takeout from here. First, I will say they separated the noodles from the soup and jjajangmyeon sauce which helped them not get soggy on the way here which I really appreciated. However, the noodles were kinda too thick for our liking and didn't really hold the sauce well. The jjajangmyeon sauce itself was really good. The fried rice was kinda bland and only worked if we spread the jjajangmyeon sauce over it. The jjambong was also pretty bland with not much flavor. I was a little resistant in trying Hao Ru out, as I thought it was all hype - the place had gone viral for their jajangmyun/chapchae dish, and people were touting this place as being one of the best Korean-Chinese restaurants. Honestly, it was really hard for us to believe this. We came here a couple of times and have tried: +Gan Ja Jang - comes with your choice of pork or veggies; the hubs went for the pork +Sam Sun Gan Ja Jang - contained squid, scallops, and shrimp; not much shrimp in there, but I do like the fact that they use a larger-than-typical-sized scallops +Yoo Rin Gi - a sweet spicy & sour dish, in which you can have the sauce over pork, chicken, or shrimp; we opted for the shrimp, and this was pretty good; the shrimp was very large, deveined, and battered well; you'll have to consume this quickly, as the sauce, even though its thin in consistency, can get it soggy +Khan Poong Sal - aka, a kung pao dish with the sauce over your choice of pork, chicken, or shrimp; we tried it with the boneless chicken, and this was okay; the hubs enjoyed this, as the sauce is definitely better than what is served at other Korean-Chinese restaurants in the area; the chicken comes out already soggy, so not sure if there was a delay in serving the dish, but we did request it to come out extra crispy; it's a very saucy dish with a slight kick to it +Jjampong - the broth is a little thicker and has a kick, but wished it was more spicier Unfortunately, the dishes that we have ordered have been inconsistent; the seafood gan ja jang was super watery, which it was supposed to be the complete opposite - it was unenjoyable. I had the Jja Jang Meon and Tang Su Yuk combo, and unfortunately I didn't think the food was worth my 35-min drive. The noodles tasted a little unusual, and the only things in the sauce were onions. The pork was basically fat free, which is nice, but also dry. My friend had the pork cutlet and it was over fried - oily and chewy.
