The ja jang meon hit the spot and the beef brisket jjampong was something different but very good as it gave a more savory flavor with the beef brisket on top. It was slight overcooked but still very VERY GOOD. My favorite is by far the Kang Pung dumplings as they were super crispy, satisfying and the sauce was absolutely to die for. I came here in a group of 6 for lunch on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The service was great and servers were attentive and friendly. I ordered the combo with jajangmeon + tangsuyuk (black bean noodles + sweet and sour pork). The pork came with a sweet and sour sauce on the side to maintain the crispiness of the pork, but most of us thought that the sauce was a little too sweet. I liked the jajangmeon, but it could use a little more pork in the sauce. Most of my friends also ordered combos including the fried rice and jjampong. Looking at the cute interior and the number of people inside, I was really hoping that there would be a "new" competitor in town to all the existing Korean-Chinese places. And on the outside, there were a lot of great options on the menu with comparable prices and selections. But the issue was that there was a lack of depth in the flavor. We always order the same thing when we come here. Jajangmyun, jjampong, and sweet sour pork. Everything is made consistently well and we'd only wish it was closer to our home lol but that might be bad for our waistlines. It's a causal ambiance and the servers are very quick, attentive and helpful if you have any questions. Food comes out pretty quickly too. Portions are very generous. Wow! Blown away from this establishment. Offering a newer twist on the Korean-Chinese cuisine, Hao Ru has much to offer for anyone who walks through their doors. My husband was craving jjajjangmyeon and I had been eyeing this establishment for some time, so we finally got to check it out. I got the beef brisket jam pong and my husband got the jjang tang combo. We also ordered the white bread rolls on the side. The stars of the show were def the noodles, the beef brisket jjampong and the jjajangmyeon were so flavorful. I highly recommend both dishes. The tangseuyeok was also good, the sauce had multiple pieces of pineapple (tangseuyeok gold!) but the dish itself overall felt a bit dry without the sauce. The positive aside from the pineapples were that the dish was not heavy or oily which is rare for a fried dish. They do offer a jjampong challenge but after seeing how big the regular is, I can't imagine eating 4x the amount! The owner(?) or employee told me that it was about 5lbs. I could barely finish the regular and I shared that. The customer service and ambiance were fantastic, and I would 100% recommend this place to anyone craving Korean-Chinese food. But if you're looking for good bang for your buck, the portions here are small (i really feel like they got smaller than before/ at opening). really enjoyed my visit! I have been seeing more and more videos on instagram showing their Japchae Jajangmyun and have been really excited to try. I had some downtime over the holidays, so finally was able to stop by with some friends. There were five of us, and we were able to order one order of the jajangmyun, one japchae jajangmyun, and the large pork tangsuyuk. we were not particularly big eaters that day, but we all left feeling very satisfied. I think it is worth trying both jajangmyun versions since the flavors are very distinct. Overall everyone preferred the japchae version! prices were not too bad either. The space is very bright and clean, with ample seating. we were greeted promptly by an employee as well and he brought over enough waters for everyone right away. Have been meaning to try this place for a while to try their infamous japchae jjajangmyun. The texture was really nice with the mixture of different kinds of noodles, but it was a TAD salty for my taste. After the noodles were done, we ordered extra rice to mix in, and that was really good (definitely recommend adding rice). All the dishes tasted good if not a tad salty, my favorite was the chicken yoo rin gi which was kind of like a mix between tangsuyuk and kkampoongi. Super friendly ladies and HUGE portions. We got the Pork Gan Ja Jang and Khan Poong Dumplings. The noodles were fresh and the pork pieces were crispy. The dumplings were ginormous and had to take them to go. My partner loved them! Definitely one of the first high quality Chinese Korean places I've been to in awhile. I thoroughly enjoyed the food here! I decided to order take out and the food was still warm and delicious! I order the combo with ja jang meon and tang su yuk. The portions for this was more than enough for the price! I was able to save half of it for another meal easily. The noodles for the ja jang meon had a nice chew and bounce to them. It lacked the depth of classic jjajangmyeon--adding more chunjang (춘장) would help bring out that rich, fermented flavor. The overall taste leaned too much on the sweet side. Tangsuyuk (탕수육) - 7/10 A standard take on tangsuyuk. The pork was nicely fried--crispy and not greasy. The sauce, however, was quite basic. I personally prefer it to be thicker and more flavorful. Hao Ru has become our go to spot for korean chinese food. I visited with my wife, and we were seated in a booth. Our typical order is Jjampong and fried rice with jjajang sauce. They make both really well. The portions are always big and the taste is always on point. We also tried the Cream shrimp this time. It's jumbo shrimp, deep fried using maybe rice or tapioca flour, mixed in a creamy lemon sauce. The sauce is reminiscent of honey walnut sauce but not as sweet, and with a hint of lemon. It was $30, but they give a lot of shrimp. Could probably be good for 3-4 people to share. We had to take a lot of it to go. The tables were clean, and our server was very attentive and helpful. Wouldn't recommend. I really didn't like their food nor service. Their jjajangmyun was a shallow bowl of textureless noodles and watery sauce - not too different from store-bought ones. Not as much quantity as other places in the area either. The dumplings were large, but had a strange flavor and left a bad taste in my mouth. The service was also pretty unpleasant. They didn't offer to cut the noodles which is standard when serving jjajangmyun, and they gave us the check and a to-go box before we even finished eating, less than 20 mins we stepped into the restaurant. I love that this restaurant is more "cafeteria" style with more simple tasting dishes. For the most part, my friends and I enjoyed the food here a lot. We shared a pork tang su yuk, which is $20.99 for a decently sized plate. Very sharable with thiccc and delicious sweet & sour sauce. The pork itself was very fresh and tasty. Breading could be a lot better - felt like it wasn't deep fried enough so it was a bit soggy. Maybe it was just an off day, but overall, I'd still recommend this as a nice sharable with friends. For my entree, I got the chicken fried rice which was a large portion of food and comes with some jja jang myun black bean / onion sauce to pour on top along with another hot soup. The fried rice itself was simple, yet tasty. It was enhanced well with salt and lots of umami. There was also a strong egg flavor in the fried rice that I really enjoyed. Chicken was pretty tasty, but there wasn't many pieces in there. Overall, I'd recommend this if you want something simple. Next time, I'd probably get a combo so I can sample more foods. I really enjoy their tang su yuk and the chadol jjampong. The noodles aren't like the other places I've been to, it's better. The batter they use for the tang su yuk is delightful and crunchy. We've done two grubhub delivery orders from here and both times it's been actually delicious. I feel like most meals, when delivered, aren't as good but my family has enjoyed it both times and would go in person to eat because I bet it'd be better. Went to try this place when it first opened at 11:00am. It was nice and clean. Ordered fried mandu. It was nice and hot. The wrapper was chewy, the way I like my mandu skin. Size was huge so we about half home. Also ordered jajangmyun and tangsuyook combo. The tangsuyook was very meaty. Not a lot of breading so the combo of breading to meat was good. Sauce was not too sweet either, so would definitely try the full order of it next time. The jajangmyun of the combo is not as thick, not my usual way to order, but I was nicely surprised. I do prefer my sauce thicker which is the full order picture. The seafood jajangmyun was not as sweet as other places, so that's a plus for sure. There were other menu items I wanted to try, so would definitely go back to do so. The little things that made my first visit enjoyable was the mug. I got cold water and my husband got hot tea. Both came in an insulated silver mug. Loved that each drink stayed its temperature while we drank them AND no "sweating" of the cold drink. Never like a water puddle under my drink at the table. Immediately when I walked in I noticed that it was a very laid back type of place. I came here for an early lunch which might be the best time to come as the place was fairly empty. I walked in and was immediately told to sit wherever I pleased. I was offered hot tea or water to which I choose both (be careful with the tea as it was very hot!). After looking over the menu one of the servers came over and gave me a full run down of the menu. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions and even gave me some suggestions based on what I was looking for. I ended up ordering the Gan Ja Jang, which if you've never tried it before can be a bit intimidating due to its looks. But do not let that hold you back the food was extremely delicious and a very good portion at that. For those that have never had it, it is a black bean paste that has a very rich savory flavor. I love this place for Jjajangmyun, jjampong, and tangsooyuk. The quality of noodles at my go-to place Maryland has been down in quality in the past few years, so finding Hao Ru has been a blessing. I love the combo option to have both types of noodles in a split bowl.
