I was excited to try the different variations of soondae (blood sausage) but honestly, the regular/original one was by far the best and it was a shared consensus in our table of 5. The budae jjigae (army stew) tasted like water soup with a hint of kimchi. The gopchang soonbudu (small intestine tofu stew) was alright. I'd give it a 6/10. Someone in our group also didn't get their main entree til well after everyone finished their dishes. Thankfully we had ordered a bunch of dishes for the table to share. Tried this place again- ordered donkatsu and kimchi jjim and gyeran jjim (steamed eggs). All three were great. I hated the don katsu at bonga (a few doors down) because it was so thin, overfried, and hard. This one was good. Kimchi jjim was delicious- not spicy, savory tangy. Braised pork and kimchi is a winning combo always. Steamed eggs were great- a little salty but perfect with rice. My rice was super hard but the waitress apologized and got me new rice. Service was great. There is a lady that works on the weekends that is really focused on turning tables- you might feel unwelcomed because she's trying to get you out as fast as possible, but the other staff are super friendly. Ambiance is casual. Old ajusshis lookin for haejangguk hangover soup vibes. As for soondae, I still like Lotte/ Seoul Soondae better. This is my comfort Soondae spot! Every time i go here the food never fails me, we got the abbaee soondae and the cold noodles and it tasted amazing! The noodle was so refreshing I wanted a lot more. I have a slight language barrier with the waiters so I just pointed at the menu for what I want and they were really patient with me so that was nice. Not the best Gamja Tang in the area and other places have better Soondae, but if you're in the Centreville area and have a craving for Korean soup then this is the place. Visiting DC for the weekend. Asked my friend who lives here where their favorite spot is and they took me here. Abbaee is widely known for their soondae, which is korean blood sausage so that is what we got. We ordered the Assorted Soondae for the table and each got a Soondae Tang. The Assorted Soondae came with regular soondae (black one), a cabbage stuffed soondae (yellow) and a spicy kimchi(?) soondae. It also came with the pig liver and pig ears on the side. I will say, out of the 3 soondae's, the regular one was my favorite. The other two were good but the texture was interesting. Maybe because the regular soondae is just vermicelli stuffed and the other ones had veggie stuffed inside? Not the expert on soondae but worth trying. The Soondae Tang was good and came with rice. You can add salt and pepper, as well as a spicy paste on the side. You can get the soondae on the side if you want but i believe it is normally in the soup itself. Plenty of parking outside to plaza. Decent amount of tables inside. I will if got it pretty packed well into dinner service so the place seems pretty popular. Service was fast and great. Would definitely come again. As a Korean, I love gamjatang and I've heard this place excels in their gamjatang. I've gone there maybe 3 times this past year, and I will say they are consistently good. Some days it's super busy, some days it's not as busy b/c it's perhaps an off-time on a weekday. However, the quality of the food doesn't change. The workers there are also super friendly which makes the dining experience enjoyable. We came here for an early lunch, and we decided to try their highly-raved Gamjatang and their Kimchi Jjim. Both didn't even come out piping hot - it seemed as if it was warmed 'quickly', and it was lukewarm, where some parts, like the meats and such, were still cold. The kimchi jjim had a good amount of kimchi, but, the flavor was a little off. The gamjatang had an off-putting pork taste/flavor to it, and the soup itself was thin and watered down. The banchans that were served were minimal, and more on the sweeter side - it seemed that they are very heavy-handed in sugar or adding sweetners. Service is friendly. Underrated and has never let me down. Food is always good and there's a fair number of classic dishes to choose from. Our party of six (three adults and three toddlers) had a good dinner experience. We ordered roughly $150 worth of food. The taste was good and the portions for the price were great. The glazed pork hock (large, $35) was definitely the best dish. The kimchi and lettuce combined with the hock was divine. My two year old ate at least 10 slices of the pork hock! The flavor was amazing and the texture was perfect. The stir fried squid and pork ($21ish) was also pretty good. The best part about this dish was the marinated sauce. The leek pancake was pretty good as well. Each bite was tasty and crunchy! The budae jjigae $16, buckwheat noodle $15, udon noodle $13, and the $30 buckwheat noodle with lettuce and spicy marination were all just average to okay. I have tried their soondae before because my friend has brought it over to snack on but I never dined in. The restaurant is a little small so I imagine there would be a wait during peak hours/days. My partner and I ordered: Gamjatang: Initially, this soup needed a little more flavor so I added some salt. I feel like when we got to the bottom of the soup was when the it was the most flavorful. This was the first time I tried this soup and I would probably get it along. The soup had soooo much pork in it and it was so tender. I used to hate soondae because where ever I went, the smell and the texture just made me nauseous. It was not until recently when I went back to Korea it sparked new love for it again. Abbaee soondae really captures the true soondae experience. They offer a few different varieties and I also like that they offer it as a combo platter as well. We opted for the jokbal (pigs feet) and abbaee soondae + tteokbokki spicy rice cake. I personally do not eat jokbal so I did not to try it.... but the soondae was so bouncy with the addition of the sweet rice. It also had a very mild flavor which pairs nicely with the salt or even the rice cake sauce! The tteokbokki was also very delicious!! The sauce was a good balance of spicy and sweet. The portions were generous and had a nice mix of rice cake, fish cake and veggies. It even came with an egg.. which does not happen often at restaurants. The service was also excellent! There were 2 women working the front and they were quick, friendly and made sure we were taken care of despite how busy the restaurant got. Tucked away in the first level of an office building off a random street in Centreville. My mom was craving their Mixed Soondae Plate (soondae bbokeum) so we went there on a Sunday around 6pmish. Small hole in the wall restaurant. It was mostly packed but we were sat immediately, the people behind us had to wait a little bit. Honestly, everything we ordered fell a bit short. I think it was an off day or we ordered all the wrong things. The soondae bbokeum/ mixed soondae plate was a bit dry and it was not an enjoyable eat--mom said it was different than the first/prior time she came. Dad said the Soondae Guk (soondae soup) had nothing in it, not much soondae and did not have that rich hearty taste. My Gamjatang (spicy potato stew) was ok but it had just 3 huge bones and 1.5 potato chunks in it--the flavor was alright but it didn't have much sustenance. All in all, it seems like a very popular restaurant due to the number of patrons there-- but I don't think I would necessarily suggest this as a place to meet with my friends or come out of my way to come here. read more

Something about the sauce and how you smother it will perilla leaves will leave you wanting more -- definitely a standard deviation better than all of the other places that serve this dish. I have been on a Jokbal kick lately. I've had it in Houston, Honolulu and now, Centreville. I have to say, Abbas's Soondae is WORLDS better than the rest!! The quality of the meat, the seasonings, the people who served the food - SUPERB, DELICIOUS and SO friendly!! We ordered the Bossam, soondae 3 ways, Jokbal and Gamjatang. Each dish - PERFECT!! It was full house and shortly after we sat down there was a line for four other groups waiting to be seated. We ordered sundae, which I've been told is pronounced as soon-day not Sun-day, lol oops. I've been eyeing Abbaee Soondae for almost a year now, but never made the trek to Centreville to give it a try until this past Saturday. My friend and I were down to make a drive for something soupy and we both like soondae, so I finally made the excuse. The restaurant is really homey and the service was pretty good. My friend and I both really liked the kimchi here! The menu was pretty extensive with a lot of options that I haven't seen in other restaurants (a lot more noodles, jokbal and bossam options) other than various types of soondaes. MODUM SOONDAE (SMALL) - 19.99 My friend and I wanted to try all the soondaes they had so we got the assorted soondae platter. Wow, there was so much soondae! This platter came with two of the black colored soondaes (chapssal soondae?) you'd normally see in other restaurants along with one each of the Abbaee soondae and the spicy version of the Abbaee soondae. There were also some pig ears and liver (?). To be honest, my friend and I could have just shared this platter and eaten some rice and we'd be full. Our personal favorite was the chapssal soondae, but we also enjoyed the slight spice and heat of the spicy soondae. The Abbaee soondae was still good, and it reminded me of an egg roll, but just not our favorite. The salt they have in each table went well with the soondaes! GOBCHANG SUNDUBU - 16.99 I'm usually not too bad with spice but wow this soondubu was super spicy. I enjoyed it as it was thick with lots of tofu and filled with a lot of gopchang. However, I felt like the gopchang became too much after awhile and the broth wasn't the most flavorful. I appreciated this stew, but I'll probably get something next time. Came with some friends for a dinner on a Saturday night, and this place was PACKED with Koreans! Always a good sign to see Korean people at a restaurant and to hear fluent Korean all around. We were seated around 15 mins in. Ordered the Bossam and Modum Soondae (mixture of soondae types), as well as a Tteokbokki. I think the Bossam and Soondae were great, the Tteokbokki was just alright. My favorite was definitely the Chapssal Soondae, filled with sticky rice - that one is GREAT with the salty dip. TLDR: Authentic Korean eats in a cozy atmosphere. Come for the superlative soondae and jokbol. Vibe: 5/5. Tucked away on the bottom level of a office building, Abbaee has a simple layout making it the perfect place for impromptu lunch and dinner meetups. The restaurant is on the smaller side, with about a dozen tables for groups of 2-4 people. Large group dining would be challenging in this space, so best keep the group get togethers for KBBQ. Service: 5/5. The staff at Abbadae were great from start to finish. My party of 2 went on a Thursday for lunch and we were greeted by the staff and seated immediately. Korean is the preferred language for the restaurant, however English will do just fine. The menus are nicely laid out in both Korean and English with several pictures to use as guides for Korean food newbies. Staff was attentive throughout the whole meal, with orders taken immediately when ready as well as food arriving at the table not too long after that. Food: 5/5. Very authentic to the point it made me reminisce about the many soondae I had throughout Seoul and Busan. Abbaee offers several varieties of soondae, from the traditional, to a spicy and sweet rice variety. On my lunch visit, I had the traditional soondae, tteokbokki, jokbol and Seolleongtang. Everything tasted fantastic, with the jokbol and soondae taking awards for best in show. The soondae has a nice sought after squishy texture with a pleasant mild flavor and generous in portion size. The jokbol was perfectly cooked, with each bite emitting juicy pork goodness. The tteobokki was what you come to expect from the dish, mildly sweet sauce with subtle spice from the gochujang. The rice cakes were a little on the softer side vs chewy/al dente which is what I personally prefer. Seolleongtang was the most underwhelming of all the dishes, as it was extremely mild in flavor and required a fair amount of doctoring up with the banchan to get it where I wanted. Pricing is very fair for the area, with each dish costing around $10-12 for decent portions. Overall, Abbaee puts out some solid Korean comfort eats that make it the perfect lunch time go to. read more

The food was pretty good but I'm not too sure I would go out of my way to come here. Didn't care for the liver as it didn't have any seasoning. The platter came with dipping sauce and traditional salt/seasoning blend but still didn't do it for me.
