I really wanted to like this place, but it ended up being pretty mixed for me. The portions are large, so the prices feel somewhat justifiable. I ordered the tornado omurice, and it was alright. It's just a bit too bland for my taste. It honestly feels like it's on the menu more for how pretty it looks in photos than for the actual flavor. The tteokbokki, on the other hand, was pretty spicy, but I couldn't stop eating it. So the food overall is kind of hit or miss. What I really don't like about this place is the service. It's been slow every time I've gone. It takes a long time to even get a waiter's attention and then the food comes out like 20+ minutes later. They only came to get my order and after getting my food, it takes forever to find someone to get the check. Honestly, I feel like I would have to clear my whole evening if everytime I try to eat here. read more

I really like the ambiance of The Lab, it's a real chill spot. Our waiter was okay (not very attentive glad the other one was there to pick up the slack. The spring rolls were nice and crispy and had a great flavor. The yakasoba made me feel like I was back in Okinawa. If you been there you know how the soba hit. Best for last the sushi alone was worth the TRIP. read more

I had high hopes for Lab No. 1, the food was actually decent but the service was terrible. Our server very clearly did not want to be there and gave us an attitude the whole time. She got our order wrong, was annoyed and didn't even understand wha my our correct order was. We didn't even try the second time around because we were already annoyed and knew she would continue giving us an attitude. Unfortunately I won't be back. read more

We've been to Lap No.1 maybe three times since around COVID, and our experiences have been pretty hit or miss. The food quality and taste aren't always consistent. This time, I ordered the Salmon Lover combo, which I've had before and really enjoyed, but unfortunately it didn't taste as good as I remembered. The rice was very moist, so the sushi kept falling apart when I picked it up with chopsticks, and the salmon didn't seem as fresh this time either. That said, the server was nice and attentive, which we appreciated. I would still be open to coming back to try other dishes on the menu and hope the food will be better next time. read more

Came here on a whim with some friends and we had a family style meal! I've been here before in the past and was not that impressed but this time things were different: The food was cooked perfectly, the pas was delicious, the fried rice was also so good. Sushi tasted fresh. Service was quick and I had no complaints. The ambiance is modern, spacious, and low light for a chill and good time! They do play music so if you're looking for something more intimate and romantic, this wouldn't be it. Overall, would recommend! read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet! Y'all, let me tell you: my favorite go-to here is the Galbi Pho. Yes, it's on the pricey side; yes, it's huge; and yes, it's just as good as any traditional Vietnamese pho--and I'm Vietnamese! Though they've raised the price by about $10 over the years, this is still my top choice whenever I'm craving galbi. This is def a splurge. Everything else we tried was also solid. The Tornado Omurice has a nice "curry-ish" flavor with a great egg-to-sauce ratio and well-seasoned veggie rice. The Crab Meat Fried Rice was also delicious--almost comparable to my favorite version at Thai Basil in Chantilly. The Fire Jjamppong is my husband's consistent favorite because of the spice level and the generous seafood. I also liked the Potato Shrimp, even though I think they could throw in a few more pieces! Lastly, the kids really enjoyed the Cream Pasta; it's an easy, kid-friendly choice. Service - attentive and you don't have to wait too long. Price - depends on what you order. Galbi pho is def a splurge. Hope this helps! read more

I've been here a fairly good amount of times. Sushi is usually on point. The seafood noodle soup is fantastic. Service is usually pretty good. Now why the 3 star rating? I had the Pho Galbi... I know, I know... A Vietnamese dish at a Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant... I should have known better... But, I did it anyways as I've had pho with the dinosaur beef rib before at other places and it was delicious... Alas.. this Pho Galbi had to be the most disappointing pho I ever had in my entire life. Seriously, the broth was nothing but saltiness and devoid of depth of beefy flavor. It was so bad I only ate a quarter of the bowl. If they take it off the menu, I'll give them a better rating but to have that item on the menu is an atrocity. read more

Went with my family and will be honest, the customer service I did not appreciate as much. We were seated under the air vent and my dad was cold, so we kindly asked to moved seats. Server had a annoyed facial expression and moved us. Food was alright, honestly not the best combo after the server's attitude. Interior of the spot is well nicely layed out. It's got a japanese and korean fusion style pub. Neon light signs with japanese newpaper on the wall. Would have to reconsider visiting again. read more

ROTTEN FISH BECAREFUL! This restaurant sold rotten tuna and justified it was frozen, the owner was yelling because we said we won't eat it. He later slammed the empty chair on our table as he was enraged. We got up immediately and left although we had much more food coming. The restaurant was filthy as I walked out fifteen that walking in, I would've left immediately. Treats his employees like slaves yelling and threatening they will lose their jobs all around a disgusting place with terrible customer service and failed management. Do NOT go to this restaurant. I don't know how code administration hasn't shut them down by now. read more

This place offers quite an extensive menu featuring Asian fusion cuisine. There were lots to choose from ranging from sushi, sashimi, pho, katsu and many more! Service: Staff were super friendly and checked on my table often. Our waitress gave recommendations as it was hard to choose from such a large menu. Ambiance: The decor and furnishings were modern and gave a cool atmosphere. The wall art was very unique and gave the place character. Food: 1. Shrimp potato: This dish was just okay IMO. Very simple dish and not that memorable. 2. Chirashi: Big cuts of sashimi that were fresh and delicious. Too much rice though. 3. Chicken Katsu curry: Big portions and delicious curry flavor. Chicken was crispy yet moist. read more

Tried the fire jjamppong and it came loaded with toppings--the large was super filling. The crab fried rice was also a hit, with big chunks of real crab meat that felt generous. Surprisingly, their nigiri sushi (scallop and yellowtail) was super fresh and really good quality, which isn't something you always expect at a Korean restaurant. The only miss for me was the Earl Grey highball--it leaned a little too sweet. Overall though, solid spot with a wide variety of good dishes. read more

If you love all types of Asian food and have trouble choosing a specific cuisine, this place is your answer! Lab No.1 is a fusion of Korean, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines, so there's something for everyone, from pho to sushi, from bulgogi to drunken noodles. Came here for a Valentine's Day date, and it was everything we could've hoped for! Friendly and quick service, very nicely decorated space, and delicious food. My boyfriend specifically chose this place to try the soju + beer tower, which did not disappoint him. The food portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable for the size and quality. We tried the Hawaiian sunset roll which was phenomenal, the jjajangmyeon which was creamy and very flavorful, the hot and crispy gyoza, the rose tteokbokki which was delicious but very spicy even after asking to dial down the spice, and the curry katsu. This was a ton of food for the two of us, so we ended up taking half home and finishing it the following day. Can't recommend this place more! read more

This restaurant has quickly become my favorite go to spot for late night fresh sushi. I stumbled upon this restaurant one night, hungry, and unsure of what I was craving. I frequently visit the restaurants in the shopping center and I had driven by this restaurant many times and wondered what a restaurant with the name as unique as lab number one could possibly serve. My curiosity got the best of me and I finally walked in one night and boy am I glad I did. I purchased an assortment of my favorite sushi always the spicy tuna roll with added tempura crunch on top, a fresh Philly roll, and a couple pieces of fresh sashimi. The first time I went, I was lucky enough to get the fresh scallop sashimi and it was absolutely delicious. I was pretty hungry, so I also opted for the veggie udon soup. Ultimately, I was not impressed with the veggie udon soup. The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, but the flavor was lacking. In my opinion I wouldn't return for their soup...BUT the sushi was very very good. The fish in the sushi was plentiful and nothing was skimped on. I returned another time since then for sushi and it was equally as delicious. The restaurant was out of the scallop much to my chagrin, but regardless got our favorites as well as some specialty rules and none of them disappointed!! As mentioned this place has quickly become my go to for a late night sushi. I would recommend anybody to come here. The decor and ambiance is very nice, I love the whole "table of contents" mural to tie in the name of the restaurant and the menu. Whenever I go, the restaurant is never truly packed, but the individuals that are there seem to be regulars and always enjoying their meal. read more

Really cool atmosphere. Like a modern hip version of am izakaya. Extensive menu. I embarrassingly took like 25 min to decide what I wanted to order because there were so many choices. When you're on a work expense budget, ya gotta be strategic! Tried the tteobokki (I know I misspelled this). Pieces were tender and the sauce was flavorful. Tater tots were over fried, but kinda delicious to dip in the tteobokki sauce. I'm sure Koreans would cringe at that but whatever, it was tasty! Takoyaki were really good. You can get 32 oz of beer for about $13 and it's on draft. Yuengling and other Japanese beers on tap. Kevin was my server and he was patient and helpful. Cool guy. Looks like the villain in Rush Hour 1 movie but with a nice personality. This place is awesome! read more

Another place in the DMV that has Omurice! A fusion restaurant featuring many popular Asian dishes, this place is worth checking out if you want a cool place to sit down comfortably and hang out with your friends. Since it was just my friend and I we opted to sit by the bar section. We were served immediately as we placed our orders in. I got Gyoza as my appetizer and Sapporo beer to drink. What I really like about this place is that they make sure the glass mugs are cold. They have this weird machine that chills it quickly making beer or any alcohol more enjoyable to drink. No one wants to drink beer warm. The gyoza was good but it's just standard Gyoza; fried edible bites of goodness. The Tornado Omurice was really good! You definitely do get alot as there's a lot of egg and fried rice underneath. I think the sauce is a bit very ketchupy but it doesnt hamper the experience. It was filling and I would say it's a great pick. Open till 2 AM unless it's Sunday ( they are open till 12 AM ) this is a good place to eat with friends! read more

The ambience here is unique, to say the least. It's definitely an upscale dining experience. Probably a great place to take a date. They do a variety of Asian cuisines, so there's something for everybody. My best friend and I split the potato shrimp - it was exactly as advertised, shrimp wrapped in fried potato. It was very good. For my main, I was debating between tonkatsu curry and curry udon, and made the last second decision to go for curry udon. Unfortunately, the curry udon was not what I expected in the slightest. I've had curry udon before, and it's usually thick noodles in a thick curry sauce. This was normal udon in normal broth with a slight curry taste. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it did not scratch the itch for curry that I had. So, avoid the curry udon. I would recommend going here for special occasions or just to try it out. read more

We come here occasionally when we have a large party. We call it the Asian Cheesecake Factory because they have so many choices. Before we placed our order, the server let us know that it would be a wait because the kitchen was backed up and she did not lie. It took nearly an hour for the food to come out. I always get the don katsu curry; it's affordable and filling. It's not the best curry I've had; it's actually kind of sweet. My friends got the tornado omurice, Yaki udon with seafood, fire cream pasta, naeng myeon, and spicy tuna roll. Nothing I've tried here blew me away and knocked my socks off, but nothing is BAD. Food: I do not recommend the seasonal Neng myun (naeng myeon).. The broth is pretty good especially with the added spicy sauce (gochu jang mixture), but my friend complained the noodles were meh. It also comes with a mountain of ice, a slice of tomato, and cabbage. If you want Neng myun go next door to GOGIVILLE. Yaki udon is pretty good but very spicy. It tastes like a gochujang/ oyster spicy sauce. The seafood is cooked well and not overcooked like typical Asian restaurants. Fire cream pasta was also pretty tasty. It's mostly cream but there's a sneak attack heat that creeps up on you. read more

TL;DR: Decent place, good miso, questionable if I'd come back, but definitely wouldn't get the tornado omurice again if I did. Service: Service was great, everyone was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere: Fun décor, music was loud enough that it would have made it difficult to have a normal volume conversation. Food: I got the tornado omurice and had high hopes that it would be amazing. Unfortunately I found the egg and rice to be extremely bland and the tomato based sauce overly strong. I thought these flavors might balance out, but with every bite it was all sauce flavor or no flavor at all. Not a dish I would order here again. They did bring out some miso soup before the entree and even though I'm not much of a miso soup person this one was one of the better that I've tried and unfortunately was the best part of this particular meal. Overall: Seemed like a fun place, I wouldn't go out of my way to try it again but I wouldn't be opposed to returning either if it was convenient. read more

Unexpectedly interesting restaurant with cool decor and good times vibe. Very attentive staff and pretty busy despite it being a late Sunday afternoon. I ordered the Tornado Omirice and was disappointed. Egg was fully cooked. No wetness or softness. The sauce was overly sweet and just not a great match for me his dish. KYU Ramen in Falls Church does it way better. My wife got the Don Pas and was quite good. My only minor complaint is that I was too saucy. That's rarely a real problem, so take it with a grain of salt. Overall I liked the vibe, but the Omu Rice is done better elsewhere. read more

I came here after a fun day at a nearby spa with my friend and we didn't have a reservation but were able to be seated quickly. The decor is fun and the restaurant is clean with a cool periodic table on the wall that showcases their menu and there are also some cherry blossom flowers. The bathroom was also nice too. I ordered the sashimi appetizer, potato shrimp, and chicken katsu. The sashimi was pretty fresh and the chicken katsu was a good portion size and was crispy and juicy. The item I liked the most, however, was the potato shrimp, which was like shrimp wrapped in thin strips of potato - it was super unique and delicious! I only knock it down a star because I ordered a jajangmyeon for my husband to go and when he had it home, it was strangely gelatinous without much substance to it and also too salty. My friend also ordered a few "miss" items like the pork belly bowl which had too much cabbage and not enough pork. read more

Pretty great food and service even at late night! Anytime I have cravings for sushi, this is one of my to go places.

My friend took me here and it was my first time hearing about this place. It was very empty when we went, so service was attentive and quick. Unfortunately, I ended up getting a mild case of food poisoning, which deters me from wanting to go back. We ordered the katsu curry and crab fried rice. The katsu curry was pretty good - katsu was crispy, but I wish the curry included some other ingredients instead of just sauce. Curry sauce was pretty flavorful. The crab fried rice was a bit too salty and didn't have much flavor besides the saltiness. read more

I've wanted to check out this restaurant for the longest time to try their tornado omurice. It was delicious, but it's ideal to share this entrée with someone else due to the enormous portion. The sauce is nice and creamy, with a hint of sweetness. I think it would go great with kimchi or something spicy. The restaurant's ambiance is nice and cute, yet I'm unsure how it ties with the lab theme. The only thing that did not sit well was when the staff member dropped off my check in the middle of my meal. My only guess for that reason was leaning back on my chair to take a break before I finished my dinner, and one of the servers read it differently. I appreciate the efficiency of the service from one of the staff members. However, it gets me anxious when a server gives me my check during my meal. It made me feel rushed to leave the restaurant, especially when the server assumed I was finished without asking me if I needed anything else. For instance, if I needed a to-go box for the remainder of my meal. You don't need to worry about finding parking since it's a big lot. read more

This has been my new favorite place to recommend meeting friends for dinner! Both times, we were sat fairly quickly despite them being quite busy. The service is quick and good. I feel like some of the food items are amazing and some are just average. I really enjoyed the pork cutlet and the tornado omelette rice. The sushi isn't the best I've had but it's not fair to compare it to places that only serve sushi/sashimi. The way they serve their beer is ingenious and keeps it cold the entire time! It's amazing! The atmosphere is nice for a fun dinner, drinks, or just hanging out! I love going to their happy hour , even though, I think they only have drinks and not food. But, their food prices aren't too bad! I am sad because I heard they are getting rid of their happy hour and raising menu items-- which I felt super sad about and gave minus one star for read more

This place's strength is definitely their proteins. The salmon sashimi, the bun cha, and the meat in the galbi pho were also tender and delicious. The broth for the pho was fine but the galbi on the bone makes it great. I can't believe how good the bun cha was. I wouldn't recommend the shumai though, it was gummy and not very good. My husband and I were thinking of places to spend our anniversary and ultimately decided to try Lab No. 1! We're so glad we did because the whole interior and food choices were great for a little romantic evening at a pretty hip spot. I ordered the Potato Shrimp as an appetizer, the Salmon Lovers roll, and the Bun Cha as the entree. My husband got the Rose Tteokbokki and Omurice. When the food came out, we were so shocked at how large the portions were haha! Not that we're complaining! The Bun Cha is a fusion take on the Vietnamese dish and comes with lettuce wraps. The whole presentation and size of the dish was eye opening. I didn't know where to start, but it was delicious! I do wish the fish sauce came separately, though but it's okay. My husband really enjoyed the Tteokbokki and was at a nice level of spice and umami flavor. It is a cream based dish. Great if you are already a tteokbokki fan and want to try a different take on the usual taste. The omurice was beautifully presented! The sauce with it is on the sweeter side and perfectly balances out the flavors of the fries rice underneath the egg. Definitely will order this again! Overall everything was great from the service to the atmosphere, and of course the quality of these unique dishes! Great spot to bring friends to try and also share comfort foods for late night hangouts. The restaurant is located right next to Gogiville in the same shopping center as Giant by the way. Tornado omurice was amazing!!! A must-get, omg! The flavor was incredibly rich and exciting, and the gravy was thick and creamy (so flavorful that it makes me think of curry rather than a typical gravy). We also tried a dipping udon noodle special--it was unique in that you dip the udon noodles into a seaweed dipping soup; it was pretty good but not as good or flavorful as the omurice. Wouldn't get that dipping noodle dish again, but it was a fun one-time experience to try dipping noodles. Shrimp pops appetizer was also great; they were excellently crispy with soft warm shrimp inside, and the accompanying sauce was tasty. Best of all though, the restaurant has a huge periodic table of dishes spelled out like elements on one wall. I'm a chemist, so I was nerding out (fan-girling) hard over such a cool periodic table design! read more
