Wow, is all I can say. I arrived around 5:20 I walked in and no one else was in the area except for the two employees, who were having a good time laughing. After being greeted and interrupted before I can say anything, I was told to wait because they needed to catch up on the phone in orders "Hence the laughing ".. After roughly around 7-9 minutes and taking a bathroom break I was finally asked what would I like too order. That was a bad representation of Thunder Cloud Subs. I understand that people & businesses get busy. My question would be as followed. What were you doing prior to that, why was it possible to have a customer waiting for a short period of time too make time for you all too catch. My time and money is just as valuable.. It's game day (Hook 'Em!) and I just experienced sandwich nirvana with my to-go Turkish Delite sandwich, plussed up with the addition of spicy mustard, jalapeños, and sweet pepper strips. I was so inspired, I had to stop everything and post this glowing review. Gahhhh! I could have been eating *this* sandwich all these years of frequenting my beloved T-cloud, but I was too set in my old ways! If you like a fresh, healthy, nourishing, flavorful, totally satisfying sandwich, you gotta try this one! The Turkish Delite is basically the Veggie Delite sandwich with the addition of Thundercloud's perfect deli turkey. Standard ingredients include: Whole Wheat bread * Provolone Cheese * Avocado, Hummus * Mayo, Black Olives, Lettuce, Thundersauce, Tomato, Shake of Pepper, Onion, Mushrooms, Sprouts, Turkey, Yellow Mustard. Hubs got the Austin Club with smoked chicken & bacon plus all the fresh fixin's and was equally impressed. Of course, we had to add those Ms. Vickie's Jalapeño Chips. We ordered online (yay, they finally got this going for all stores), set our preferred pickup time, and mosey'd over at half-time. The friendly sandwich artists always have our order ready to go and waiting at the pick-up counter - no wait, no hassle. Thank you, Thundercloud! Love y'all! P.S. Staff greeted us as soon as we entered. That's the opposite from when we last went to Subway, the staff seemed annoyed we were there, wouldn't even look up at us, we're standing there at the counter, we finally had to ask, "Can we order?" The vibe of the store is much nicer than the corporate Subway also. That's to be expected, Thundercloud started in Austin in 1975 and has a long history of hiring local musicians. Google the article from Austin Monthly. Subtracting one star for tip inflation. Tipping isn't required for counter service and if you do tip, the standard for counter service is 10%. But the *minimum* default on the Toast tablet was 15%. (Yes, I know I can manually change it, that's not the point.) The defaults should be 10%, 15%, 20%. read more

But it's still the same. I have a about 4 favorites here, so here we go. . #1 Chicken Salad, #2 New York Italian, #3 California Club and #4 Tuna Salad. You can't go wrong with these. TLDR: exactly what you expect, and you get what you pay for. For food I had the New York Italian. The sandwich was pretty good. Bread was soft but just chewy enough. The meat was flavorful lettuce crisp. The whole nine yards. The thunder sauce really helped bring everything together. They have a selection of both Vickies and Lays chips. The location is a bit dingy. Old linoleum, faded paint, etc. but it was clean, just in dire need of a facelift. The people behind the counter were more than polite, so no issues there. read more

Came here for the first time today for lunch... another one of E's favorite spots in his "old stomping grounds". They're very strict about observing social distancing guidelines, which I appreciate. The menu isn't huge, which I love; I tend to get overwhelmed with too many options. You can get your sub in either a small size or a large, and can add chips and/or a drink. E ordered the California club, so I did too. Large, with mayo and mustard, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and thunder sauce, on wheat bread. When we got to our friend's place and unwrapped them, they smelled sooooo good. I enjoyed every single bite of my sub. They were very generous with the Turkey, bacon, and avocado, and juuuuust right with the rest of the fixins. Everything tasted fresh and the whole thing pretty much melted in my mouth. I ordered 4 large BLT's and told the guy I wanted everything on them except for onions and to add provolone plus extra Thunder sauce. He then asked me what I wanted on them several times and I explained a few times. He asked me if I wanted Thunder sauce and I told him again that I wanted extra sauce. I actually really enjoy Thundercloud. The line always goes very quickly. I never have any issues with my order. The food is always fresh, I enjoy the soups just as much as I do the subs. I never have any issues here. The staff is super friendly as well. I've never actually eat my sub there though, I always take it to go. As I take over the Dukedomshipness of my local Thundercloud Subs, I guess I owe it a review. As the resident cheapskate, I usually get a "small weekly special, on wheat". Unless it's tuna. Cause.. ewwww... Tuna. But I have been known to get an Office Special (the only egg salad in town I've ever liked, with bacon added) on consecutive days. I always feel dumb spending $$$ on a sandwich when "you could make a sandwich yourself at home". But I have TRIED to duplicate that egg salad at home, and I just can't. The Nada Chicken (vegetarian) is pretty solid, even for a meat eater like me. The avocado is always fresh (NOTE: It's mashed, not sliced). And they have things like green chiles (seasonally) which is nice. My wife would like a toaster there, and I wouldn't mind if they stopped having styro cups (please let me know when they do). I've always had fast, accurate service here, even when the line gets to the door, and I admit that it was a little intimidating at first until I got used to the sequence of the questions they ask when building your sandwich. But I wanted to point out today's excellent service from manager Rachel. They source their bread (at least at this location) from The New World Bakery in Kyle, including gluten free which they've only carried about six weeks now. However, they only get a set number of the GF every day. Today by 1pm. they were already out. Rachel stepped in, as the counter guy was breaking the bad news, and offered an agreeable alternative so that my poor celiac wife "didn't need to go hungry". Good job, Rachel! As much as I love the Office Favorite, I'd never 5-star a place based on one sandwich alone (looking at you, "Hey!... You Gonna Eat or What?"). Corn-green chile bisque frito pie was DELICIOUS as a vegetarian comfort food. The bisque has a bit of a bite to it, but not too much, and the fritos are salty but the bisque is not, so together they are great. Order it with all the veggies on it. I wolfed it down as quick as anything. The Nada Chicken sandwich was on sale when I went, and was also a good choice. As they say, good for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. My other go-to sandwich is the veggie delight with cream cheese and extra thunder sauce. The combination of the soft cream cheese with sprouts and vinegary thunder sauce is craveable. This location just seems better than most. The workers are attentive and polite, and they even have specials which can only be found at this location. This particular thunderclouds is awful. One of the older men here is always snarky and anytime I've gotten a sandwich there, it's always wrong in some way. Today we ordered a large veggie delight with a nada chicken patty added to it and I received a small sandwich with MASS amounts of hummus, pickles, and lettuce ?? That's it. What ?? This is not the first time this has happened. They never have an issue with my request for well done bacon and will gladly crisp it longer if needed - I super appreciate that! Oh! Two large ham sandwiches on wheat for about $3? YES. This is the 1975 price, by the way. Each Wednesday this month they're offering old-timey pricing on a selected sub. I haven't been to Thudercloud much lately. I've opted to go to Subway a few times because they're within walking distance of work. But Thudercloud really is better. I've never been a big fan of Thundercloud subs, but gave it another try this past week in a pinch. I got the Austin club, and while it wasn't amazing, The sandwiches weren't as bad as I remember making them out to be. The bread is pretty average, and the veggies are pretty fresh, but not the most flavorful. It really is just an average sub in my opinion, without anything to set it apart flavorwise. They do offer gluten free bread and all that sort of hippy dippy stuff if that's what you're into, but as far as an especially delicious, or unique sandwich you're going to have to look elsewhere. If you're in a hurry for a quick bite, and there's one around, it's not a bad option though. The service at least, seemed very friendly at this location. read more

Yesterday was my first time eating at a Thundercloud Subs, as a friend is on a Paleo diet and she knew that she could get a great salad there - and her salad did look really good! I got a full turkey sub and it was pretty good. The whole wheat bread was excellent, all the veggies and guacamole were fresh - all in all a pretty great sandwich. The only things that I didn't like about Thundercloud was up at the counter, being the first time I had been there it seemed a little hectic. There wasn't a defined line, and it was really odd that the standard sandwiches seemed to come with lettuce and you had to add on almost everything else - cheese, veggies..etc. etc. I spent just over $8 not including tip for my sandwich and an unsweet iced tea. This seemed a bit high to me, considering Subway's prices. I know Thundercloud isn't a giant chain like Subway but it just took me by surprise a little. All in all though, a pretty good experience. Poor customer service. I ordered a curbside order arrived 10 minutes early made my presence known. The clerk acted as if I were crazy and then proceeded to serve everyone else and finally gave me my food 10 minutes late (based on the scheduled pickup time). Very poor process. read more

This is not a sub shop. Its a yuppie eatery named after a sub shop. Any sub shop that does not carry steak and cheese? Not a sub shop. Its a SANDWICH shop. Rename your stores. So i ended up with a meatball sub. They were out of white bread had to get wheat. The sub is so wet, cant pick it up and eat it, have to eat it with a knife and fork. The bread tastes odd, even for wheat bread. Almost like someone handled it with soap on their hands. The meatballs taste like they are 2 days old and burnt. Youll never see me in a TCS again. I LOVE Thundercould but this one DISAPPOINTS me TREMENDOUSLY......The employees are NOT friendly by ANY means. They just want to know what you want and that's it. When the guy made my sandwich he left off the bacon (it was a BLT, for goodness sakes!!!) How can you forget the BACON on a BLT??? Once he put the bacon on the sandwich and I sat down to eat, it wasn't crispy either. I actually prefer the way Subway has their sandwich counters where you can see them making your sandwich, because had I noticed it wasn't crispy bacon I would've asked for them to nuke it in the microwave or something. I wouldn't go out of my way to return to this location, but if I was in the area and just HAD to have Thundercloud, maybe I'd return, but I'd prefer to drive to RR to get a good sandwich and service all in one.
