Let me begin by saying that I am not a raw foodie, vegan, paleo eater however I am an omnivore with vegan tendencies. I was in a rush and wanted to try some eccentric food that is typical of Boulder. Unfortunately, because I was in a rush, I picked the first thing on the menu that popped out to me instead of making a more informed decision. Since the menu is primarily raw vegan, I wasn't able to decipher it as quickly as I can with other restaurants, which isn't a complaint, just a circumstance. Not to mention that really loud zen meditation music made it hard for me to think. Although I'm not complaining about the music, I was certainly caught off-guard since it's not typical for a food establishment. I kept slipping into zen Buddhism mode, forgetting I had yet to order my food, ha! No wonder previous low-star reviews usually mention slow service, the meditative environment makes it difficult to move fast. That can be a good or bad thing, depending on who you are. I ordered the nori wrap and kale chips. The kale chips were delicious, I got the nacho cheese flavor, and they were a moderately large serving. My nori wrap? I don't even know what to say. I've made them before at home and I know for a fact that I am a fan of nori wraps, but this one had an overwhelming bitter/burning taste. I couldn't even eat it. I tried to figure out what exact ingredient was causing the bitter burning sensation, but it seemed it was the whole thing, perhaps the dressing? Typically poorly-washed produce tastes like that from pesticide residue (with both organic and conventional produce.) Either way, my only true complaint here is that I bit into the nori wrap expecting deliciousness and instead it was like I bit into a handful of medication and chewed it all up. Next time Im in Boulder, I'll make an effort to try more from the menu and update this review. read more

Haven't gotten my food yet but have to say this is the SLOWEST service I've ever experienced. And I like Slow Food. There are 4 people working here and they are like sloths, chatting away with everyone and obviously not in a hurry. Super long line for a teeny place. The food here is consistently great, I've never had even the slightest thing wrong with an order. The flavors they achieve are outstanding, I'm absolutely in love with all their dips especially the cashew sour cream. They really capture familiar tastes and textures while maintaining a vegan/raw menu, it's perfect for introducing someone to this style of eating because you certainly won't feel like you're missing anything. The best vegan and raw food my wife and I have ever had, no exaggeration. If you're looking for a fancy or hip place, this is not it. But if you're up for some delicious vegan raw meals by staff who really care this hits it out of the park. We stayed in the area for 3 days and ate there on four occasions. I loved the smoothie options and the Gaia Green was delicious...but the dead bee and beetle on the window sill in front of me didn't help my experience. The inside tables against the windows are very dirty and need to be cleaned. The music was loud and definitely didn't lend to a relaxing lunch environment. While my smoothie was good, I just can't get over the lack of cleanliness in a place where people eat so that's why I'm giving three stars. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this place during our trip through Boulder and I'm so happy we did! As two foodies who do a lot of experimentation on our own we are always looking for unique and exciting eateries that make healthy, filling meals we are not able to make on our own. This place made all of our dreams come true! After traveling up and down the east coast from New York to New Orleans - scouring towns for healthy food joints - we've seen a lot of vegan friendly, plant based, whole foods restaurants and,after a while, the salads and smoothies options all start to look the same.... Until we arrived at Thrive. This place is built from the ground up with love- the beautiful wood counters speckled with gems were great eye-candy. The menu was full of foods we'd never heard of and everything that we ordered was unique and wonderful! It was a lot of fun customizing a lavender ice cream and tasting it along side one of the owners who clearly has a passion for feeding people great, unique and healing foods. His attention to our wishes and endless patience with our questions made for a fun, educational and delicious dining experience. I had heard mixed reviews and wanted to try it for my self. I liked the food. The taco salad was large and very tasty, my chocolate shake was great too. The service was not as slow as I had anticipated and the vibe of the place was cool. Two complaints: They don't have a bike rack, which was disappointing and the outside tables were pretty gross and looked like they hadn't been wiped down in ages. Everyone is unbelievably kind, everything I've ever eaten had such amazing flavor and that's coming from someone who isn't even vegan... I just love it! There's little touches at thrive that remind you that you're loved and important... from the taste of the Natural High Smoothie, the Pesto Salad or the Taco Salad to the door that says give on one side and receive on another, to the bright art throughout the restaurant and the tip amounts in relation to how high-vibe you're feeling- this is such a fun place. I wished it opened at 7am so I could grab a smoothie after my morning workout and before work but I will continue to make time in the afternoon or weekends to stop here (just would come more if I could). I've been eating at thrive frequently for a few yrs now. The food is good and nutritious. But the service is horrible. Everyone is so blissed out and lackadaisical that every order takes 20-30 minutes (to make a salad or a smoothie) even when there's no customers ahead of you. But what's worse, for like the third time now in the last yr, I called in an order to go, and they never even made it. I guess I'm an idiot for continuing to have any faith in their abilities to do something as simple as take a phone order. My bad. Eating there only makes sense if you can spend an hr having a meal. And word to the wise, Don't bother calling in to go orders!! I've stopped going a couple times in the past because of the service being obnoxiously slow and inconsiderate. But at this point I'm debating never going back for good. read more

The owner prepares everything himself and is incredibly knowledgable about almost every super food you can think of. There was so much to choose from I ended up treating myself a 7 course meal(with a buddy) and every bite was jaw dropping.Try the Nitro ice cream for sure!It's so fun and you can do any flavor you want. Beautiful concept and beautiful place. I love the decoration and vibes of the interior. The staff are very friendly and say welcome to everyone that walks in. The menu features (mostly) smoothies, salads, and snacks. I had the holy pesto salad which was pretty good, and shared the abundance of flax crackers and dips with friends, which were also good. A raw chili soup was given good marks but the inner flame salad was nothing special. I feel like if I came back and figured out the best things on the menu, it would definitely be worth making this a regular spot. Any place that is all organic and all vegan already has captured my heart! The only thing that bummed me and my companions out was that everything came in packaging. Food is delicious, love the porridges. They generally don't open on time, have arrived at 9 with door locked and no one inside that I can see. But usually someone opens it up by 9:10/9:15. That being said for raw food I think they have good prices. The people are very kind, it's not the fastest but youre getting love and quality in your food. I loved the sandwich and smoothies are tasty too. Wish they didn't use agave but they avoid a lot of other allergen/inflammatory foods which I am grateful for. Love the outside seating and sunlight.
