Randomly stumbled across this place, and it seemed really nice. The inside was clean and had a good atmosphere. I shared the Vaquero flank steak with my friend, and it was nicely seasoned and cooked just how I liked it. One thing I really appreciated was that when we told the server we were sharing, they split the dish in half and plated both portions separately. Overall really tasty food. The ambience was a bit experimental and fresh, but the service was a bit odd with some weird interactions. The cauliflower lemon pepper was actually really good. It had a solid level of crispiness and seasoned really well. The sauce wasn't the best but added some wetness to it. The chicken breast was really crispy outside as well with a really moist interior. One of those places I must have passed by so many times and never went in, and I'm glad I finally did! The food was really good. as anyone that reads my reviews should know, I like traditional foods with a little twist and this place has got the twists. For example, their grilled cheese sandwich is actually a grilled Brie sandwich, and eve that has an extra twist. The fried butternut squash sandwich is also a great option. We understand mishaps happen and it's not easy to run a restaurant. We wish this restaurant the best. We were disappointed with the service during our visit. As visitors to Boulder, we were excited to try this restaurant after seeing a positive TikTok review. My husband, our 3-year-old, and I arrived and saw two parties ahead of us get seated quickly, so we assumed the wait wouldn't be long. We stood right by the counter, and another party entered after us. When the hostess returned, she looked past us and asked the party behind us if they had been helped. They pointed out that we were there first. The hostess then informed us that the only available seating for a party of three was at the bar, which wasn't an option for our child. When we asked about table seating, she said the wait would be 15-20 minutes. We agreed to wait and stepped outside. However, after an hour, we never received a text. Standing outside in the cold with a young child was tough, and it became clear that we weren't going to be accommodated. If the restaurant does not welcome young children, it would have been helpful for them to communicate that upfront. The experience left us feeling unwelcome, and unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

It's a new concept owned by the restaurant next door & they have a few menu kinks to work out. We started with the hippy dip which was good, but served under lettuce so it gets all stuck to one side of the lettuce. The Fresno chili buffalo wings were pretty good & the right spice level - more of a thick paste than a sauced. The chicken sandwich was too much bread and not enough chicken and toppings - was expecting a chicken breast instead of some shavings. Kathy's salad needed more greens and fewer dates - would also prefer more citrus in the vinaigrette. Although the Bonanza brisket was covered in pickles, it was definitely the favorite. A good combo of tender meat, fried onion, and bbq sauce on Texas toast made a tasty combo. Would recommend the fries over the rings to accompany it. read more

High Country comes from the same owners of Gemini (which is right next door). Service from Coco was so friendly and great. We enjoyed the super cheesy queso Fundido and the wings. The wings are brined, making them super flavorful and fall off the bone. We got 2 sauces to try. Fresno chili buffalo (spicier) and honey habanero (sweeter). Both were great. We also got the mile high burger with fries and the chicken sandwich with onion rings. I like that they don't upcharge for salad or onion rings. The fries were really good too. (I am very particular on my fries) For cocktails I had to try the Down River. It was so good. Served properly up in a Nick and Nora glass. My hubby got the XXX. It was delish! Very refreshing. We finished with the lemon bar which was light and great. Can't recommend High Country enough. They have a great patio and I am excited to see them grow in the space. read more

THE best restaurant to go if you have dietary restrictions. I had the short rib which was dairy free and gluten free and it was insanely delicious. They have so many gluten free and dairy free options. Their fryers are completely gluten free- Absolutely no worrying about cross contamination, first time I've had fries at a restaurant without worrying about having a reaction :). Perfect place for vegans, celiacs, and all sort of allergies. The servers are super nice and understanding of all dietary restrictions! Can't recommend a better place. read more

Interesting experience to say the least. The food was fine. We sat outside at one of the tables near the center of Pearl Street. Ordered a beer, Odd13 superfan, which was really good for 3 sips until they came out and took it back because they haven't obtained a liquor license for the 2 outdoor tables away from the restaurant yet. Service was overwhelmingly friendly, although I would've preferred competency. They filled our four glasses of water from a vase and left it with a quarter cup of water still in it, never returning to fill it even after leaving me parched and sad from taking away the beer. Like I said, food was fine. Pulled pork torta was interesting, served with green chili. A tad soggy. The Kathy Salad came with more stems than leaves which was a bold choice, unless Kathy is a rabbit. Burger and brisket sandwich were alright. I understand they are still in the process of opening, which was clear from the lack of outdoor liquor license and "velvet ropes" with plastic posts that fall over if a butterfly lands on them. I imagine they'll iron out the kinks, so I don't want to deter people from trying it out. I'm just sad about my beer. I would've finished it inside if given the choice. read more

How this restaurant got a 4 star review from anyone tells me not to trust reviews. The ribs were cold, old and soaked in something I can't describe as sauce. I had a battle with whatever that "sauce" was about 4 hours later. I lost the battle. The burger is of Big Mac quality, large... sloppy perfect fit for a street dog. A house dog would snub its nose to it. The salad, pushed to the side by our salad eater (who will literally eat yard grass if she's hungry enough.) I'm not going to bore you with the descriptions of the rest of our order. You get the point. More than 50% of the plates (at a table of six) were incorrect. The restaurant was not busy. Maybe 20% full. The wait person and manager did their best to right the ship. They were professional and nice. The problem was the kitchen... and the food itself. You just don't correct from this low of a quality score. Dear owner(s), your restaurant is beyond horrible. Save yourself a lot of pain, and close this thing now. Eat the sunk costs. Restaurants are not your thing. I'm not sure where this establishment would be successful, but with the Boulder dining landscape being what it is... High Country is DOA. And I know that lease isn't insignificant. Here's my suggestion: scrap the entire menu, with the one exception being your French Fries. Your French fries are not epic, but they are pretty darn good. Call it French Fry Larry's. Sell three sizes, just like at the carnival. Charge $8, $10 and $12. Don't be stingy. Figure out a creative way to present. All orders are to go... ride that cash flow until the lease runs out, then get a job. You'll make a lot more money if you get a job. It doesn't matter what the job is. You could mow lawns, fix appliances, deliver for Amazon, sell T-shirts at The Buffs game, clean pools, be a dental hygienist. It doesn't really matter, but I promise you you'll make more money than you're going to as the owner of High Country. And as the great Porky Pig used to say "Thi'uh thu, thi'uh thu, thaaat's all folks." read more
