    Crab Cake

Really great little local place with class. Amazing outside seating when weather permits and the inside is essentially an old home converted. People are amazing and attentive. I love local places with character. We had the pork chop (spectacular flavor with some panceta on top - don't be afraid to get it medium) with an amazing rosemary polenta (super crisp outside and buttery inside) With a crab cake on the side - I'd have to say the crab cake was just a little fishy and could have been crisper - I'm not sure I would choose it as my main course so we got it as a side. Their aioli is anchovy based which was a nice little kick - Its funny, if you are not told what the flavor is you would swear it was slightly "curry" but it was a nice add to the crab. Not shown in my pics was a buffalo meatball app with tzatziki - the meatballs are ok - buffalo is naturally kind of lean/dry - but that tzatziki was amazing - clearly fresh made with thick greek yoghurt and really fresh herbs. It was a gamechanger for the dish. Pros: * Great atmosphere - very date night worthy * drink selection is amazing and creative - gives you a lot to talk about and ponder * Amazing people and a local place with class Good/Cons: * Food was good - a 5/5 on a "Longmont" scale but overall really a 3/5. I left thinking "that was good" but not "man we need to come back here as soon as we can"... Satisfied but not blown away. A step above pumphouse - probably on par with the Roost (local places). Not as good as Sugarbeet. * It seems like it is always kind of quiet and reserved - I definitely like being able to talk to my date/wife (always my wife if that was unclear) but not so quiet I'm uncomfortable with lively conversation. Outside is always better but when its cold you can't really do that.

Awesome meal. Mussels and Bake Brie were amazing as were my lamb chops and my wife's perfectly cooked scallops. Great cocktails and excellent service! Cozy bar. Cute spot. Amazing patio when the weather is warmer.

Martinis were pretty good and the crème brûlée was up there - they used real vanilla bean which is crucial in my book. Hubs got the steak and was underwhelmed, he didn't think it was worth the price. I had muscles and mushroom soup which were actually very yummy! I don't think this will make it back on to a date night anytime soon... so I have to give it three stars. It was too expensive for not loving the food or drinks. Maybe we'll give it another try someday but I don't think anytime soon. Side note - my mom loves this place for lunch! And the setting inside is romantic but a little tight if you're trying to have a private conversation.

Martini's is great. We've never had a disappointing meal here. The scallops and crab cake are my favorite entree on the menu, and my husband loved the steak. They also have an excellent happy hour! You can easily make a meal between cocktails and appetizers. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, especially on the patio (my favorite time of year for that is fall). The cocktails are innovative, interesting, and delicious. They're also not for the faint of heart (read: they are strong). I love that they also have interesting mocktails/alcohol free options! Very inclusive, and sometimes you just want to sip something interesting without necessarily getting a buzz. Servers are very friendly and always on top of things. Really nice service. Martini's has great staff. I know not everyone loves this, but I think it's very cool that their menu is a QR code!

So looking for a great brunch, look no further, Martini's Bistro has it all. We went for the Easter Brunch and along with the bottomless Mimosas we started off with Apple Fritters and Honey Butter. 3 LARGE fritters were served by Jessica along with the Honey Butter and man, they were outta of this world. They were loaded with apples and were awesome. I ordered the Venison Sausage & Artichoke Frittata. Every bite was delicious. The sausage was done perfectly and the combination of flavors was well balanced. Come hungry as the portions served are generous, you can always take any leftovers home with you in a provided box. As always, the food, beverage, and service was 5 Stars. Jessica was always at our table ensuring we had everything we needed and desired.

It's mostly about the service, not the food - to the point that I've come in multiple times and not been served and had to go somewhere else to find a meal. It's one thing for the place to be popping and servers to be a little too busy for attentive service during Miss Jessica's drag trivia. It's another to be unable to find any server anywhere around 2 hours before close when there is nobody in the restaurant. The food I've had has been fine, but nothing notable and a couple of the fried dishes the table shared at trivia were pretty greasy. I will keep trying every so often and hope things turn around for them, but it's not on my list of places to send people or bring friends who come to town.

We were all shocked to see the change in the breakfast potatoes... the au gratin potatoes have always been delicious and so unique to anything else at any breakfast/brunch spot in town, so when the plates arrived with fried potatoes you can get anywhere else, it was disappointing. The same dish we have always gotten, the Monte Cristo, was lackluster today. When we mentioned the potatoes the response from our waiter was "yeah that's been a common complaint"... which makes it obvious that we weren't the only ones who have brought it up and asked about the change. The service was decent and the food was good, but none of it compared to what it has been in the past. Oddly enough it was also quite empty for a Sunday at 10AM when were used to seeing it packed in there. Perhaps others have noticed changes that are less than customer-centric? Why make such a change to a staple item which then makes the meal no different than what I can find elsewhere for less money? Sadly it make not make the list next year when company is back in town when it's typically been their request.

We were seated promptly upon arrival although did wait a bit for a server to appear. We arrived at the tail end of happy hour so that was nice. Happy hour is available at any table in the restaurant. We ordered appetizers of smoked trout dip and baked scallops. Both were tasty. Main courses were duck and fresh catch of the day which was trout. The trout and the veggies served with it were delicious. Whipped parsnips, roasted carrots, snap peas and spinach topped with a nice filet of trout. This place is small but very cute on the inside. Make sure to notice the ceiling fan. They have a large outdoor patio too.

I think the best thing about River and Woods is the interior and exterior decoration. It is very clear that a lot of thought and time was put into the atmosphere here. From the cute door knocker to the bathroom wallpaper, the theme is well-executed. The food was a bit disappointing. The blue oyster mushroom appetizer was extremely salty. I thought it was just me but the rest of the table agreed as well. My trout was well-cooked and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The chicken was also salty although cooked well. I did not try the burger but I was told it was salty as well. The prices of all the items were quite high for what I thought was presented. Service was good and thankfully our waters were filled frequently for how much water we were drinking due to the high salt content.

Despite this, the "kitchen was backed up" and received our order roughly 40-45 minutes after we ordered. This was not an issue for me so much as I kind of expected that on Father's Day, but considering the dining room was not packed I assumed this was a staffing issue. I was more annoyed by the fact that after we received our drink order and placed our food order it was another 15-20 minutes until we saw our waiter again. She passed by several times, clearing tables etc and would not make eye contact so I could order more drinks. I was about to go to the bar when she finally showed up. She was very nice but also very absent. I think she may have been working the patio as well, but the other servers inside seemed to be much more attentive to their tables. The food was quite good. I enjoyed the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs quite a bit. I was a little disappointed by the spartan amount of sausage gravy and I asked for the poached eggs medium (firm white and runny yolks), but as in every restaurant, they served be extremely runny whites and yolks. The biggest turn off, however, was the 2% "Operational charge" on the bill. Boulder County now has a minimum wage for tipped employees at $16.82 as well as the expectation of a 20% tip, yet restaurants have the gall to charge these additional fees so that their customers, not the business support their employees. Raise the prices of your products by 2% to cover operational costs like any other business. It is very off-putting to ask your customers to pony up additional funds separately to support your business. When I see these add on charges I will not be supporting your business in the future.

A real hidden gem in Erie…read more 24 Carrot Bistro is a farm to table restaurant in Erie Colorado making fantastic dishes from local seasonal ingredients. I've been wanting to check this spot out after visiting the equally fantastic Birdhouse close by. We came for brunch on a Sunday, and while they are busy, seating is readily available. First, I have to say that the drinks are fantastic. I got the 24 Carrot Magic, a tequila based drink made with carrot juice. It is perfectly balance and dang smooth. A really perfect drink for brunch. I ordered the Grilled Shrimp and Grits and my wife got the special of the day, chicken and biscuit. The portion size is perfect for both dishes. For the Grilled Shrimp and Grits, the shrimp were perfectly cooked, plump, and juicy and the grits were buttery without being too rich and oily, which perfectly complimented the shrimp. The andouille sausage adds a perfect salty bite to the dish, and the fresh greens and crispy noodle rounds out the dish. As for the chicken and biscuit, the dish came out hot and juice. The biscuit is glazed with a jalapeño honey which compliments the dish perfectly. The biscuit has a nice crisp to it but still fluffy and buttery inside, and I think it's one of the better biscuit in the Denver metro area. The chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. Overall, 24 Carrot Bistro is a fantastic restaurant. The brunch menu has many attractive options, and I definitely will be back to try dinner. Additionally, as a farm to table restaurant, their menu changes seasonally and by their dishes on Instagram, this is definitely a restaurant I could see myself returning to check out new seasonal menu items.
