Fabulous restaurant in the heart of Longmont CO. Great service and the food is exceptional

It had been 3 years since we met up with friends here. All of us were wanting to revisit this place since our first visit was so good. (And we don't live in the area). We were seated promptly upon arrival although did wait a bit for a server to appear. We arrived at the tail end of happy hour so that was nice. Happy hour is available at any table in the restaurant. We ordered appetizers of smoked trout dip and baked scallops. Both were tasty. Main courses were duck and fresh catch of the day which was trout. The trout and the veggies served with it were delicious. Whipped parsnips, roasted carrots, snap peas and spinach topped with a nice filet of trout. This place is small but very cute on the inside. Make sure to notice the ceiling fan. They have a large outdoor patio too. read more

Brunch at West Side has always been a favorite for the last several years... especially when I have out of town company visiting, so we made our reservation and went in this morning. We were all shocked to see the change in the breakfast potatoes... the au gratin potatoes have always been delicious and so unique to anything else at any breakfast/brunch spot in town, so when the plates arrived with fried potatoes you can get anywhere else, it was disappointing. The same dish we have always gotten, the Monte Cristo, was lackluster today. When we mentioned the potatoes the response from our waiter was "yeah that's been a common complaint"... which makes it obvious that we weren't the only ones who have brought it up and asked about the change. The service was decent and the food was good, but none of it compared to what it has been in the past. Oddly enough it was also quite empty for a Sunday at 10AM when were used to seeing it packed in there. Perhaps others have noticed changes that are less than customer-centric? Why make such a change to a staple item which then makes the meal no different than what I can find elsewhere for less money? Tried to make a reservation they seem more than happy to take it until I Told them we had a baby with us. Then it was that time is probably not good for a baby. We won't have a table for a baby. We LOVED this place! Such funk and charm and such friendly faces. Food and drinks were delicious. I had the trout with vegetables and parsnip puree. Hubby had tomato soup and amaaaazing grilled cheese! If we lived in Longmont we would totally be regulars! read more

Very cute spot! We had dinner plans elsewhere so we just stopped in for a drink and snack. I would definitely like to come back again for food. Located in a cute neighborhood, we found street parking easily. The cocktails we had were all great, except for my one friend she didn't see that her drink was made with mescal so she sent it back. No one in the group liked mescal enough to drink it for her... it's horrible... such alcohol abuse ;) Normally I would never let a good cocktail go to waste, but even I don't enjoy mescal enough, had it been any other spirit no problem. Thankfully the staff was gracious and accommodating, took it back no issue and removed from the bill. We sat outside on the patio. I didn't even go inside. Lovely outdoor seating! If I was local I'd come back sooner, but next time I'm visiting I'll be sure to return and try some food beyond the flatbread, which was tasty btw. read more

Love West Side Tavern! It's such a gem in Longmont. If you're into cozy, charming bars/restaurants that feel like you're in someone's home then this is the place for you. I've been a few times and this most recent time we popped in for some drinks and apps and sat at the bar. Let me start by saying that the service was excellent. Tony was our bartender and he was amazing. We sat around 4:40pm on a Wednesday and it got pretty busy throughout our time there. Tony handled both a full main bar and service bar like a champ and still remained friendly and attentive whipping up incredible cocktails. We ordered a few drinks and loved them all - Sage Against the Machine (my fav! The scent of sage paired with the blackberry is a marriage I'd return to again and again), Bada Bing (my least favorite, but still very good - especially the touch of rosemary), 3rd Ave Old Fashioned (a really great take on an Old Fashioned), Smokin' Gun (I would order this any time. It was delicious and loved that it's smoked table-side for that perfect campfire scent. Gin is my spirit of choice and I love an old fashioned so this was the perfect combo). Drinks get a 10/10 ranking and their whiskey selection alone is super impressive. We spent a large part of our time there looking at the countless bottles that adorn the walls and liquor case. We've also ordered a little bit of food, but not enough to give it a solid ranking. This time around we got the frites and buffalo cauliflower. Great happy hour prices and the apps are tasty and a good portion. This has quickly become one of our favorite spots to visit in Longmont. I have been here twice, separated by a couple years, and each time there was a large tv showing vintage movies with naked women, borderline soft-core porn. Do not go here if that kind of thing offends you. I was surprised to see that again... I really thought the first time was just a mistake. The first time we went, we just had drinks and it was okay... the decor is pretty tacky ( and still is) , service was decent though. Thought we would try it again and have food this time. I had the flatbread and it was pretty good...7/10. My husband had the surf and turf and it was very bland. Fish and steak were both overcooked...5/10. Both portions were decent. My first glass of white wine had to go back because it tasted like it had been sitting around too long and had turned. All in all, not a terrible place, but if you don't want boobs in your face when you're trying to eat, this place is not for you! The West Side Tavern is a unique, eclectic bar/restaurant in the middle of a Longmont, CO residential neighborhood. We went here for dinner & drinks Sun 8/24/25 on our last evening of our trip to Colorado. A neigborhood gastropub in a renovated 1915 grocery store. They offer a bar with a great selection of premium craft cocktails, whiskies, local beers, & wine. We sat at the bar and ordered our first drinks from the affable Tony S. And it was Happy Hour. Bell's Two Hearted Ale ($8) & Pinot Grigio ($6) - Nice! We looked over the limited menu with selections you won't find in most places. We had a cup of tomato basil soup ($7), mac & cheese ($14) starter/shareable - English red cheddar, parmesan, cavatappi, crispy prosciutto, mushrooms-excellent & piping hot, & steak frites ($34) - grilled 8 oz Angus, rosemary and smoked blue cheese butter, house-cut shoestring fries - perfectly cooked, large portion. Dessert was a delicious cheese cake. If we lived nearby we would certainly try other menu items. The bar has a movie loop on the TV produced by the co-owner. It is a facinating film highlighting classic cartoons, highlights from old movies, & all the glamour & kitsch from the '60 & ' 70s movie & TV. Quite the conversation starter. There is indoor & an outside patio for relaxing. Note: limited parking, but plenty of street parking, just watch for the signage. Hours: Sun-Thu 4-9:30pm, Fri & Sat 3-10pm, Sun brunch 9am-1pm. One of the strangest experiences in a restaurant that I have had on any continent. My wife and kid had gone out for the evening, so I am on my own. Someone had mentioned that they liked 'that little place on Third', so I go and check it out. I am seated immediately right by the door, at the left end of the bar, and given a menu. After 17 minutes the waitress finally comes back for my order (it became oddly long enough that I started tracking all of this). I ordered steak frites and a glass of wine (it's kind of my default). About 15 minutes later it comes out and I am served. The frites and wine are just 'ok'. Not bad or anything... just not noteworthy. I finish my meal and wait. And, wait. And......wait..... After a while the waitress comes out and I order some cheesecake. She goes away with the order and I realize that there is this bartender, obviously drunk, trying to entertain an older couple (that was also kind of drunk), and he attempted to wax poetic about the value of different liqueurs and their social nobility. It went On. And. On. After a conspicuous while I interrupted and asked where the wait staff was. He just pointed at the kitchen entrance and then ignored me, and proceeded to stumble his speech some more. I look over and all the wait staff is just standing there ignoring all of the clientele. I catch the eye of my waitress and wave my hand for attention. She sees me, and then turns around and continues talking to the other staff. Thinking this is some sort of joke I decide to see what this takes to just get some dessert. After a while the older couple shuffle on, and the bartender finally does some actual bartending/cleaning. I ask again where the staff is and he literally *rolls his eyes* and walks away. A minute later the waitress comes out with the cheesecake. I check my watch. It's been **42** minutes. The cheese cake was 'ok' grade pre-made fare, but that's about it. It was a 42 minute wait for manufactured cheesecake while having to listen to some self-important drunk d-bag trying to educate other drunks. I mentioned all of this to the person that referred me there, and they just responded with "Oh yeah, that's the owner." We were in town for just dinner and randomly stumbled across this spot. It was super busy which was expected for a Friday night and didn't have a reservation but got sat at the "Tiki Bar" outside in under two minutes. The temperature was perfect outside but they even had heaters in case we got too cold! We had the Smash Hit cocktail, burrata appetizer, Mixed Grill (Lamb, Beef, Sausage), and the Bourbon Torte (I think that's how you spell it). Everything was delicious, I think this was the best dessert I've ever had. Not being dramatic. Although it was busy, the staff was always so kind and attentive. It was a great, friendly, fast paced environment. The owner (I think) even came to check on us a few times and give us recommendations on what to order. This review is late in coming, but I feel it's worth it a this little cottage of yum is truly a Longmont gem. Tucked away in the historic part of town off 3rd Ave, parking is tough at times, but well worth it. The people were fun, engaging, and very friendly and ready with perfect food suggestions. And oh... the food. Not the typical greasy bar fare, well prepared, fresh ingredients and flavors fit for a Queen. Since it was mother's day, that perfectly fit the bill... which was not as scary as I'd expected for great service, adorable surroundings and top notch fare. The place keeps evolving for the better. The drinks are always great but now the dinners are equaling. My last trip was with neighbors and we ordered different things to try out. I got a variety of meats. Really liked everything and we were all happy with our meals. I ordered an Old Fashioned. It's amazing how such a simple drink has such a range from horrible to delicious. We were excited to go to this restaurant. Tge ambience was great. Small inside with fantastic decor. Check out the cool light fixture on their website. Staff was very friendly. My dinner of Steak Frites was very good. The meat was cooked as ordered and was very tasty. My partner's dinner was very disappointing. He ordered the special of the day, Prime Rib, medium, with baked potato and vegetables. The potato was undercooked and warm, not hot. The meat was well done, no pink to be seen at all, and it was cold. We informed the waiter. The plate was whisked away with sincere apologies. The plate was returned. Same piece of meat that had been warmed with au jus, which did warm it, but of course the heat of the au jus just overcooked the meat further. The entertainment on the TV was old movie clips of Tarzan, Japanese sci-fi, Corvair and other commercials and, vintage striptease!!. The striptease we found offensive as it objectified women. Surely some other vintage clips could be found as the idea of it was fun. I would have a hard time recommending this charming restaurant, even though they have a lovely patio. read more

Have been wanting to try this place forever and finally pulled in on a Saturday afternoon. The drinks were fun and well done, they got us a table even though packed with reservations ( had to leave by 6:00!) but we had plenty of time. The outside yard is cool and well divided for privacy. We only had the roasted cauliflower but the portion was good sized and we liked the flavors and presentation! read more

My wife went to great lengths to have a special night planned for us in celebration. She made a reservation WEEKS in advance. We showed up to West Side Tavern and they were a complete unorganized mess. For having a reservation, we were definitely not treated as such... we stood awkwardly and in the way of others for 15 minutes before being sat at the bar. We were completely forgotten about while "waiting for a table to get open." We will not be giving our business to this place ever again. Absolute poor customer service. read more

So it's Restaurant Week's fault as if the national guard were forcing the owner to, as he put it, to be "taken down". And to then say he should have "turned you away" rather than say " we were unfortunately fully booked' shows an amazing lack of customer relations and your staff capacity. Will preface this by stating this was a Sunday night during restaurant week. Wife and I wanted to have a nice celebration for our wedding anniversary. Have been to West Side Tavern before and have generally had a good experience. This was visit was anything but ... We had called a few days before and made a reservation for 2 people for 6:30pm. We showed up at 6:25 to check in, and were told it would be a "just a minute" as they bus the table from the previous couple. Few minutes go by, and are then told the table we were supposed to go was given to a walk-in couple that was waiting at the bar. So walk-ins have priority over reservations if they were there before us? We finally get seated at a table at 6:50. Hostess gives us menus, silverware, and water. "Your waiter will be right with you." Waiter finally comes to us at 7:15pm. We have a simple order - Restaurant week surf and turf for 2. Should be quick and easy since that is your only restaurant week special you are running. I am assuming they had to go out and catch the salmon and butcher the cow based on how long it took to get our food. We got our side of au gratin potatoes at 8:10. Just the side, nothing else. The entree did not come out until 8:20. Mind you, there was a table of 6 who were seated 30 min after us and got their orders (of the same surf and turf for 2) 15 min before we did. They either rushed the order or the server mistook my request of medium rare doneness for the steak as the doneness request for the salmon, because that was severely undercooked. At that point we were too tired and hungry to complain. We ate and left. We have had good experiences before, but this one just put a bad taste in our mouths ... TLDT version: - Reservation for 6:30pm. - Seated at 6:50pm because table was given to walk-ins - Waiter takes our order at 7:15 - Table of 6 who were seated and ordered after us, ordering the same meal(s) get their food before us - Side dish (and only the side dish) comes out at 8:10 - Main entree served at 8:20 and is basically raw salmon and medium rare steak. 2 hrs for what should have been a simple anniversary meal. Next time we will cook at home together. -- Comments following owners response to original review -- 1. You're an asshole. A simple "We apologize for the issues your experiences. We we very busy that night and our staff did the best they could." That would be the "compassion" you speak of. 2. Not entitled, not expecting special attention. But being seated at the time when we had a reservation for would be a good start. And yes, the hostess told us it was a walk in couple that was given the table, so I call BS on you. 3. Wanting to get our food served to us, which was a small order, before a table of 6 who were seated AFTER us and ordered AFTER us, and happens to order the same thing, is not a big ask. It's common practice - first in, first out. I'm sorry if this is too much for you to understand. 4. Correct, 2 hours is not a long time for an anniversary dinner, and we had great conversations. But when you come in expecting a decent service and have to wait 2 hours for food, that is poor delivery. We've been here before & thought the food was great. We also knew this was also a communal-style restaurant. However, to celebrate a special night, we made reservations 3 weeks in advance and requested a table of our own. We called three times prior to our reservation time to ensure we got our own table. They assured us they would. Long story short, having a reservation was pointless and a complete waste of our time. We stood awkwardly for 15 minutes at the entry way and then we were sat at the bar and saw several couples being seated at their own tables while we waited to get ours. We finally spoke up after 45 minutes, Peggy (the hostess) said she completely forgot we had been waiting. The owner said they would comp our drinks (they didn't btw) and were apologetic. This place seems completely unorganized when it comes to their reservation system. I don't understand why they would even bother with a reservation system if they're not gonna honor it. A small, fun quirky place. Love it! We stopped in for a cocktail and appetizer. We ordered a Mai tai, beer and then had a brandy Alexander and then a glass of a very tasty rum . We ordered the trout dip served with warm pita bread. It was wonderful! Atmosphere is cozy and comfortable inside. The bar is a great place to sit and chat and watch some fun drinks being made. There are also several outside tables to sit at as well as a tiki bar. A little something for everyone. Dinner menus looks great. Can't wait to go back and try a meal. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely suggest reservations as it is a smaller place. There is valet parking which I'd suggest using. Parking could be difficult otherwise. Hello LONGMONT!!!! Boy do I have News for you!!!! Ok, where to begin?! Step one, we were early for our reservation so we dropped by the bar. We walked in and happened to be the first ones in. Ohh how sweet it was. . . . . . . We were immediately greeted by EVERY staff member. They were cheerful, kind and inviting. Our bartender, Styles, was super welcoming, energetic not at all overbearing, helpful and educated. We orders two cocktails. Side note- ORDER cocktails/Mocktails (nonalcoholic). You will NOT be disappointed!! Both were amazing, balanced and tasty. I ordered a Turning violet - it was stunning in color, flavor was balanced- tasty and not too alcoholic forward. My dining partner had the rose bud! A great twist on manhattan - very smooth, fresh, light and easy drikin'. Then we ordered food . . . . . . Step two I ordered Duck two ways and I'm still tasting the flavors. Great balance of sauce to meat to broccolini. The duck was cooked perfectly, juicy and the whole dish was fantastic. My dining partner got the beef stroganoff. The dish was amazing, beef was tender, mushrooms were thick and flavorful. The carrots were fabulous accompaniment that tied it all together. We asked our bartender, Styles for a drink suggestion and he delivered! He paired a cocktail perfectly with the duck. Please go and ask the staff to pair a drink for you. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!!!! This is another must visit! The options here are limitless. You can get small plates, salads, cocktails and just experience a really relaxing fun evening. The area has some great cabanas, outside tiki bar, indoor bar, and indoor table options. It has a cool vibe of steampunk/ eclectic old Europe style. It is exceptionally clean. The building has been in Longmont for over 100 years. I remember when it was just a family run sub shop on 3rd avenue! This is the first sub-4 star review I've left on Yelp. Had a reservation and was really excited to go. We were running 5 minutes late and had called ahead of time to notify the restaurant as we thought it would be the courteous thing to do. When they answered the phone they put us on hold immediately and we stayed on that hold until we arrived at the restaurant--no one ever answered. When we arrived 5 minutes past the reservation time they informed us less than politely that they had seated another party and we'd have to wait for our table. They weren't even apologetic or understanding of how disappointing this was. This stung all the more because my wife was 36 weeks pregnant, we had arranged childcare for our date, and I was looking forward to going out on Veteran's Day to celebrate my recent departure from service. The whole exchange was awkward and generally unpleasant with both the hostess and the owner (or manager? Not sure which). My wife had left a review on Google explaining the situation in what I'd consider a fair recollection of the encounter and the owner responded pretty unkindly (see picture). I'm sure the food is wonderful, but I do have to echo other people's message that the atmosphere is less than welcoming. This is not what I'd consider a friendly spot, and I don't like to give my business to people who are bullies. EDIT to reply: I'm disappointed but not surprised by your response. I do not use reviews as an attack, in fact this is the first negative review I've ever left on Yelp, you can verify that on my profile. I'm not sure what your "cameras" show but if you actually reviewed any footage all you'd see is about a 3 minute conversation between us and your hostess/you followed by our departure. I've been to West Side Tavern.... 5 times now? Felt it was time to leave a review because.... EVERYONE SHOULD TRY THEIR TUNA MELT HOLY MOLY. In general tuna melts have a strange stigma about them; maybe because you think of Starkist (SP?) canned tuna or something, I don't know. But if you have some sort of stereotype or bias against Tuna Melts, I'd encourage you to get over it. The tuna used is super fresh (at least it tastes fresh; I don't know how you source tuna in Colorado but whatever), the bread has a thin layer of some sort of cheese on the outside that give the bread an extra fantastic crunch.... there is a really cool tang that I can't describe (maybe a bit of citrus juice of some sort) but it is creamy, crunchy, tasty..... I dream about it often. They have other awesomeness too, I just want to call that out. Some reviews lately have been talking about price.... I think their price is close to fair given market conditions and whatnot. One of our other favorite restaurants is 24 Carrot Bistro and the prices. here are just a TAD higher on average. BUT West Side Tavern is generous with portions and they don't do the dumb x% "our staff needs to live" stuff (at least I didn't see anything on our bill). Our service has been good 4 of 5 times (pretty terrible once when we were outside, but something was just off that night I think). Overall highly recommend for great food (TUNA MELT OMG) fun cocktails (the walnut bitters in the Old Fashioned are clutch), good ambience.... try it out. read more
