Service was terrible took me a half hour to get a drink. Drinks were way to strong or had no alcohol at all.

This couldn't be further from a true speakeasy if it tried. The music and bass were off the charts loud with hard rap. The drinks weren't made well...mostly sugary and the ratio was off on the cocktails. I wouldn't recommend going if you're sober. read more

Says all you need to know about the kind of place this is and the kind of crowd it attracts. And a new low for bartending. Asked for a cold, dry, "skip the vermouth" martini. I got half a glass of olive juice. ??? When I asked her to remake it, I said, "just cold vodka, up with a twist". I've been here a couple of times but will never go again after I've learned about the petty and disrespectful attitude of the owner to other local businesses like javastop. The drinks are not great and do not taste like they should given that's what this place is supposed to specialize in. The atmosphere is okay if there is nowhere else to go. But now that I know that the owner is asking it's neighbor, Java stop , to remove signage that has been up for decade just so she can add more of her own signs... well I'll be doing a lot more early mornings at javastop and 0 late nights at speakeasy. I know one of the bartenders at Speakeasy. Her jealous boyfriend is always hanging around there and he followed me outside and threatened me because I was talking to her. I explained the situation to the owner, Sarah, and it turns out the boyfriend was her son! He continues to hang around there when she's working and I don't feel safe there. Had been jonesing to come here for months since they opened. Finally had the chance to last night and it lived up to all my expectations. It's divided into three areas, an elevated bar with velvet seating leads to another room with tables chairs and some cute comfy couches with a stage to listen to live music which leads to a room with two pool tables. The room with pool tables looks like a super fun room to rent for a party. There was an amazing jazz band playing that covered a coupe of recent songs with a jazz twist. Relaxing and entertaining. I particularly love the way the place is decorated with the 20s vibe and the chandeliers etc. They nailed it. It's a beautiful place to be without feeling pretentious. The only recommendation I have for this place is for them to have a cocktail menu. They currently don't have a cocktail menu and even if they added a small menu with 4 signature cocktails on it, that'd be perfect. This kind of place just screams for needing something like that. There's a hip little spot just along Old Main Street, In Longmont of all places, and man, it's a diamond in the ruff, one of the newest, best kept secrets in the vicinity. On the outside, it's merely a concrete staircase disappearing down into the sidewalk, an overlapping black canopy, with "The Speakeasy", scrawled across it, in the most subtle white lettering. Upon descending the staircase, I wouldn't say I was transported through time, but I certainly was swept away from Longmont, the noise of the street drowned out by the sweet sounds of jazz, and I mean good jazz, real people jamming, energy flowing. I showed up for the Thursday Jazz Jam, which starts around 8:30pm; every Thursday, local musicians are invited to get on stage and join in, which makes for amazing variety, and genuine chemistry. The band is the audience, the audience is the band! Quality mingling opportunities. As a tall gentleman, I was also pleased by the space itself, three separate rooms, dressed to the nines and looking vintage, the main Lounge and Bar, The Jazz Hall, and just connected to that, a Pool Hall; Good folks, good times, and tons of space, which by the caliber of the talent, should have been crammed to the brim with movers n' shakers, etc. The Staff was friendly and the crowd was also pleasant, a reasonable mix of artists, musicians and other locals in the know, and of course, a bar-fly or two. Good selection of spirits; Strong bow and Guinness on tap, and the boss knew how to pour me a snakebite (the beer, not the shot), so that's always a plus; also on tap, Lefthand selection, Oscar Blues, and the usual array of buds and lights. Bottom line, if you like good jazz in an intimate venue, or don't feel like braving the streets of Denver, "The Speakeasy", is an amazing alternative on the front range, and it's worth a visit when the music is playing. If gems like this lounge become the norm, then I can foresee Longmont becoming a jazz town, and as a usually bored and restless resident, I for one, am totally ok with that. Came here with DH to have a little relaxing time with live music for our anniversary. Plus: Music was good, enthusiastic band and singer! Place is nicely decorated, lots of seating 3 rooms means you can spread out, to help minimize the noise of the band or to play pool or chat Lots of liquor at the bar Relaxing vibe - not a typical bar Cons: Bar isn't very knowledgeable about drinks - only one bartender seemed to know anything and he still had to check on one drink (a sidecar - classic for the era they are representing) Music in the music room is LOUD Beer on tap isn't very local and not that many options No food - they did have chex mix at the bar Honestly, I know 3* is considered only ok but we will be returning here, it is a nice chill place and with a bit more effort they could easily become 5* - give them a shot if you are NOT looking for a typical bar and want some live music and chilling out with your friends/family/loved ones/new date. Social, this is not. The Speakeasy seems well-intentioned, but fails utterly at creating any sense of the 1920s theme it strives for. Sometimes it feels like a sports bar, with flatscreens awkwardly placed in random corners (some playing TV dramas, others live sports) while at other times you're listening to a rock/jazz/fusion band that's blasting like it's a concert venue. The service is decent--everyone was friendly and helpful, although there are some weird policies, like handing out copper mugs in exchange for your ID (I get that people might walk off with them, but why even hand them out?). The drinks are sub-par; all the cocktails I tried were very skimpy on the liquor and one flavor tended to overpower the rest. Overall, the Speakeasy might be what you are looking for if you like mixing sports and live music--and aren't into cocktails--but it's a bit misleading. read more

We alternated between relaxing over excellent cocktails at the bar, playing pool in the back game room, and having fun listening to live band. This place stinks, meaning it smells terrible. There's actually a lot wrong with this bar and I feel like it could be an excellent case-study for entrepreneurial students - how not to run/market/scale a business. Drinks are terrible and overpriced. Embarrassingly so. The pours are weak and small, and I actually question whether or not they dilute their booze. The staff is unremarkable and tiring to deal with - you have to spell out everything. They don't even know their own stock, like they're confused about what they serve everyday. To give you an idea of the mismatch nature of this establishment, it's called "The Speakeasy" and has the Art Deco branding in the name, yet they have vinyl signage advertising PBR outside. Gaudy DJ fliers litter the bar and they play terrible music. I don't get it. This place is dealing with a serious identity crisis. There are too many other options on Main Street that I'd suggest over this. Surprisingly, places like Tex-Mex have better drinks for far less and is really relaxed. Breakers is a better option if you're looking for pool, but pass on this hole. read more

I have yet to hit this place when it's busy, and I've been here on Friday and Saturday nights. The bar staff can be spot-on or a bit slow and hesitant, depending on who you get. The manager is great and very responsive to feedback. Live bands play in the area downstairs just off the main bar and I've heard some fantastic jam bands there. To the side of the live area is a nicely-appointed space with two red-felt pool tables. Clientele seem to be rather cool, a more mature crowd until they get into their cups and a few of them get ... strange. All in all a much better venue than attendance would seem to indicate. I do not recommend this place. The space is VERY cool, but the drinks aren't good and very expensive. We went on a Tuesday evening at 6pm. The bartender was extremely nice but unfortunately, she does not know how to make drinks. I ordered a dirty martini and it was not drinkable. The vodka tasted watered down and the olive brine must have been expired. My husband got a rum drink and it was terrible too. Maybe the lime juice was expired too. To get to the bar you have to walk down a flight of steps to the basement, the front door is unmarked and I was wondering if I should slip money though the door for admission. Walking down the stairs into this glamorous atmosphere is this "wow" moment that I wasn't expecting. Tufted velvet chairs, chandeliers, bar, lounge rooms and a pool table room. There's a little something for everyone here. Jazz nights are typically Thursday evenings, Dj is on Friday nights with a cover (depending on Dj) and now that the season is picking back up again they are having live bands on Saturday evenings! Check the website for the calendar of events. Social distancing and masks are still being mandated as per county regulations so keep that in mind! I went in for happy hour 4-7 and there's a plethora of options for discounted drinks. If you come in at night, you can come in sort of casual but also a very nice place to dress up a little fancier that usual (; The bartenders have always been friendly and make the cutest cocktails!! 10/10 Glad to see the Speakeasy made it through this pandemic and is still able to bring such a fun experience to the Longmont nightlife! read more

I love the vibe in this club. It's very retro with a flare of elegance. My girlfriend and I went in to check it out after a concert and we loved the music and overall cool surroundings. They have a wide variety of live bands all the time so we will go back for sure. We decided not to stay long because they were wanting to charge a cover charge and we knew we could not stay long. Don't be surprised when you realize this place isn't really a "speakeasy" per se. It's more like a perfect place between classy and dive bar. At least on Wednesday nights. Think classier joint with a dive bar crowd. I love it. The music is a bit loud for my taste but that's easily remedied by sitting in the front room or pool room. I go EVERY Wednesday for karaoke and ladies night. The crowd is Super fun. That being said I would never go to the speakeasy on a Friday or Saturday night. Different crowd, different feel all around. I'm sure lots of people enjoy the live music but it's just not really my scene. Something for everyone I guess!
