Happy hour!
Cristina C.

Swanky, sultry and sassy. The central location of this bar, located just adjacent to the St Julien hotel lobby, is a perfect spot to channel your Bond spy girl and observe the colorful characters that to and fro through Boulder's poshest bunkhouse. Cocktails here are creative, of the moment, and composed from top shelf ingredients: House made bitters, crafted condiments...the bar displays jars and canisters that remind you that cocktailing is equal parts alchemy and attitude. The happy hour is notable: cocktail du Jour, gorgeous food items that strike far from the normal happy hour fare: roasted cauliflower, grilled artichokes, generous small plates that run the gamut from field, surf and turf. Add a great playlist (or stay until 6-7 when live music starts in the lobby!) and you've got an intriguing start to your glamorous evening.

This bar is swanky with a capital "S." The lighting is so dark you have to peer closely at the people around you to identify them. Unless of course you're in the round room that makes me feel quite a lot like I'm in the haunted mansion ride at Disney. The cocktails are simply scrumptious. I had some sort of blueberry-acai-lemonade with alcohol that somehow made me feel like I was doing something good for my body even though I was putting alcohol into it. And the staff is awesome. No matter where I sat, in the bar, in the lobby, or in the round room, the server found me to ask if I needed another drink at just the right time and found me again to bring it to me. I'm sure she was frustrated with me, but I kind of thought I'd like to go back and play a game of hide and seek with her and my beverages to see if she could always find me. On second thought, I think I'd rather just have my drink.

A bit of respite from the North Face militia and hacky sacks. If you're hanging out in Boulder and actually shower in something other than patchouli, then you should swing in to the St. Julien. A swank ass bar with some delicious libations. While T-Zero itself is a bit darker, the lobby is a touch brighter and more communal. They also tend to have live music regularly. Pro tip: Don't forget there's a spa down the hall....and it's a hotel in case your night is headed in that direction.

Well this is a fun little place. A Tiki Bar in Boulder made for a great after event spot. Themed…read moredrinks and decor are always a win with me. Our server took great care with us and checked on us frequently, which was very much appreciated. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Just know that inside seating is dimly lit. Seating is "family-style" so be ready to sit with some new friends you meet. While I did not try any of the drinks or food, those I was with stated a great "foodie" and drink experience. Certain drinks come served in super fun tiki glasses! The drinks were extremely well priced for Boulder! I look forward to going back and giving the food and drink a try. Shout out to Jungle for doing a great job supporting Rocky Mountain Equality during Pride Month. 100% of profits from the Boulder Pride Cocktail menu go to this organization. Awesome!

I've been here a few times over the last couple years, and it's become a go-to for me in the area. I'm a sucker for a good Mai Tai. And boy oh boy, they make a great one here. Definitely ones of the standouts on the classic cocktail menu. Flip the menu around and you'll find unique original drinks. For the classics, stick with Mai Tai, Jungle Bird, Saturn, or Piña Colada. We came here after an event where there was appetizers, so we didn't want to commit to entrées. Jungle has a nice selection of tropical appetizers, burgers, chicken tenders, fish tacos, etc. This was my first time eating here. We ordered the ceviche and nachos. Ceviche was very sweet due to the passion fruit (actually way too sweet) but I appreciated the execution of the shrimp, lime, and other ingredients. The nachos were solid with a white queso. A fancier/island take on a bar staple. Wouldn't run back for either personally, just my preference! We sat on the patio and service was prompt and friendly. I would like to sit inside one day, keep in mind close to half the seating is outside the actual bar. But on a beautiful night in Boulder, it's a great place to be. Definitely recommend Jungle. It's not one of those overly pretentious tiki bars. It has a nice neighborhood bar feel, albeit their talent behind the stick. Check them out!

True to the name, they hold one of Boulder's first liquor licenses. Inside is a maze of sorts, as you wander through different rooms offering different vibes and activities. They have two bars, host comedy nights and live music, various types of seating, and a wonderful happy hour menu that people should know about. Happy hour is from 5-7pm on all days they're open! PENICILLIN ($8) // Dewar's White Label Blended Scotch Whisky, Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, ginger cordial, honey, lemon. A penicillin is one of my favorite cocktails; one you don't even find on many cocktail menus. The act they're offering it up, for $8 no less, earns a special place in my heart. MOJITO ($8) // Bacardi Superior Rum, mint, simple syrup, lime. Refreshing on those hot days. Served in a large highball glass, this is an enjoyable sipper. BREADED CALAMARI ($10) // Calabrian chili agrodolce, orange salt, chive. I believe the food comes from the upstairs restaurant, so I wouldn't go out of my way to order this one again. Pieces were inconsistently chewy, dare I say rubbery? However, I was hungry and still chowed down. TRUFFLE FRIES ($6) // Truffle aioli, parsley, Parmesan. These are a winner. Truffley and cheesey, what more can a fella ask for during an inebriated meal? Would order these again in a heartbeat! I liked the casualness of this speakeasy. It makes sense considering they're inside a hotel and people will wander in and out of different spaces. Great place to hideaway or have a date night. Need to check out one of their live music or comedy nights!

Oh gosh... let me start by saying, I hate to leave a two-star review for License No. 1…read more... My husband and I went to the NYE event at License No. 1. We had event tickets for NYE inside the speakeasy as well as the comedy show at 8PM. The comedy show was great- hilarious in fact! I loved the comedians. The service for drinks was very slow and our seats were uncomfortable. Our seats at least had backs on them, the couple next to us had to sit with their back against the wall, which they said was uncomfortable for the duration of the show. After the comedy act, we went in for the NYE experience. The speakeasy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The furniture, the decor, the mood, all amazing! The line for drinks was asinine. The bar was crowded with what looked like only 2 bartenders working. And the bartenders were making extravagant cocktails that would take more than 5 minutes each to prepare. It was ridiculous! In my opinion, there should have been a set list of drinks to order that would make the line go faster. My husband and I were at License No. 1 from 8PM - 12:30AM and both only had two drinks each because we didn't want to waste our time standing in line. Also, we ordered dinner at 10PM. I ordered a burger with fries and he ordered a Pastrami Sandwich with fries. After an hour went by, I asked about our food order. It turns out they gave it to the wrong table. They told us to wait and they would bring it out shortly. Fast forward, it's now getting close to midnight and time to make the champagne toast. It's around 11:45PM and still no food. I didn't want to be a "Karen" but at this point I was irritated and hungry. I talked to a manager and he said the kitchen was "a mess", all the food order numbers got mixed up, and he seemed surprised we hadn't received our food yet. We finally received our food around 12:15AM. And what was disappointing to me is that I had paid the bill ahead of time when I placed the order, 20% tip included. We left shortly after. I would love to go back to License No. 1 and hopefully have a different experience, where I can leave a 5-star review.

The service was very attentive and friendly; the waiter's and bartender's recommendations were great, and the food was not only beautifully presented, but also extremely tasty. The inside is really cute and I love the overall vibe of the place. We were dressed for dinner, so we weren't looking to swim, but the pool looked fun for a hot day. I ordered the Banana Boulevardier and it was delicious. After that I ordered a daiquiri (one of my go-to drinks) and it was probably one of the best ones I've ever had. The bartenders were all super nice and we enjoyed chatting with them. We weren't there to eat, but the food looked good. I would love to come back and order off of the Happy Hour menu. I couldn't find the happy hour times anywhere online, but they are 3-6 and 8-close every day.
