Fat idiot who wouldn't let us in after a call
Crystal V.

I loved this spot until children were trying to throw their weight and act like they owned the place. I walked outside for a call and couldn't get back in. This idiot wouldn't allow it. Disappointing because I love Tony.

Odell's IPAs and pool tables

They beat expectations I've avoided sundown in the past due to bad reviews. We decided to go on a Wednesday around 6pm. They were fairly empty and had reasonable prices for Boulder. They even had few pool until 10pm. We left around 8:30pm. A crowd of college aged drinkers started taking over after 8pm. We plan to go back again and again. They even had Blanton's!!!!

a group of friends enjoying a beer

This is a pretty average dive bar, (though to be honest I haven't been back to this place since COVID hit, but was here pretty regularly pre-COVID) though it's most definitely a college bar, as every Friday/Saturday night it was packed to the brim with college kids! There isn't any dance floor though, just places to sit and darts/pool to play. So overall this is a pretty chill (which means it can be boring sometimes) place to hangout.

Underground with the lights on the ceiling
Sam F.

One of the coolest bar locations I've ever been to. It's underground in a very cool town. There's Christmas lights, pool tables, classic bathrooms, and seems to always have a crowd of all ages. I didn't get any food but I got a tasty Gosé. It's such a cozy place and I'd love to return someday.

Good vibes to hang in, really shit bartenders. Hostile, perverse and shady. Especially the guy with long hair and glasses. Probably won't go back. Men's bathroom was about completely soaked with piss. Cursed jukebox.

Yeesh. Do not go here. Maybe my first 1 star review? Even for college bars this place is bad.

True to the name, they hold one of Boulder's first liquor licenses. Inside is a maze of sorts, as you wander through different rooms offering different vibes and activities. They have two bars, host comedy nights and live music, various types of seating, and a wonderful happy hour menu that people should know about. Happy hour is from 5-7pm on all days they're open! PENICILLIN ($8) // Dewar's White Label Blended Scotch Whisky, Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, ginger cordial, honey, lemon. A penicillin is one of my favorite cocktails; one you don't even find on many cocktail menus. The act they're offering it up, for $8 no less, earns a special place in my heart. MOJITO ($8) // Bacardi Superior Rum, mint, simple syrup, lime. Refreshing on those hot days. Served in a large highball glass, this is an enjoyable sipper. BREADED CALAMARI ($10) // Calabrian chili agrodolce, orange salt, chive. I believe the food comes from the upstairs restaurant, so I wouldn't go out of my way to order this one again. Pieces were inconsistently chewy, dare I say rubbery? However, I was hungry and still chowed down. TRUFFLE FRIES ($6) // Truffle aioli, parsley, Parmesan. These are a winner. Truffley and cheesey, what more can a fella ask for during an inebriated meal? Would order these again in a heartbeat! I liked the casualness of this speakeasy. It makes sense considering they're inside a hotel and people will wander in and out of different spaces. Great place to hideaway or have a date night. Need to check out one of their live music or comedy nights!

Oh gosh... let me start by saying, I hate to leave a two-star review for License No. 1…read more... My husband and I went to the NYE event at License No. 1. We had event tickets for NYE inside the speakeasy as well as the comedy show at 8PM. The comedy show was great- hilarious in fact! I loved the comedians. The service for drinks was very slow and our seats were uncomfortable. Our seats at least had backs on them, the couple next to us had to sit with their back against the wall, which they said was uncomfortable for the duration of the show. After the comedy act, we went in for the NYE experience. The speakeasy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The furniture, the decor, the mood, all amazing! The line for drinks was asinine. The bar was crowded with what looked like only 2 bartenders working. And the bartenders were making extravagant cocktails that would take more than 5 minutes each to prepare. It was ridiculous! In my opinion, there should have been a set list of drinks to order that would make the line go faster. My husband and I were at License No. 1 from 8PM - 12:30AM and both only had two drinks each because we didn't want to waste our time standing in line. Also, we ordered dinner at 10PM. I ordered a burger with fries and he ordered a Pastrami Sandwich with fries. After an hour went by, I asked about our food order. It turns out they gave it to the wrong table. They told us to wait and they would bring it out shortly. Fast forward, it's now getting close to midnight and time to make the champagne toast. It's around 11:45PM and still no food. I didn't want to be a "Karen" but at this point I was irritated and hungry. I talked to a manager and he said the kitchen was "a mess", all the food order numbers got mixed up, and he seemed surprised we hadn't received our food yet. We finally received our food around 12:15AM. And what was disappointing to me is that I had paid the bill ahead of time when I placed the order, 20% tip included. We left shortly after. I would love to go back to License No. 1 and hopefully have a different experience, where I can leave a 5-star review.

The bar drinks are what you'd expect, nothing special but no complaints. I couldn't give it five stars because of how many arcade games ate our money. Pac man was the only one that really worked - and we somehow got it to play all night on two quarters! The music was pretty good. Definitely danceable. We played pool and some arcade games (so much pac man throughout the night, I think I discovered a new passion) which was super fun. I will say that some of the games just ate our quarters which was a bummer but overall the arcade games were a great addition to the bar. We had some basic well drinks and some beers and they were exactly what you would expect from a local game bar like this. However, they did have a small dancing section which made the place even better because there's really something there to do for every type of person. The dance floor was pretty busy and the music was fun and lively so we had a good time and were impressed by that it wasn't too gross or dirty in the place. I think this is a super fun place to go out in Boulder and I would totally go there again, definitely recommend.

We were greeted almost immediately and presented with drink menus. Our server answered questions about what the drinks tasted like to help us decide as well. The inside is a little bit divey in feel but more upscale than your typical dive bar. They had tons of seating, and I saw next to a fireplace because it looked cozy (it was). The server was quick to take my order even though it was pretty busy in there (was rush weekend I think for the university?). I had the tin man HH cocktail because my server said it would be the most floral (has elderflower in it) and I quite liked it! Was very refreshing, not too strong. Aside notes: the bathrooms were quite clean. Parking was a little chaotic, some is paid parking and some is free 2 hour. There are only a couple spots right in front, I had to park a few blocks down but it was in 2hr free park by another small business that was closed for the day. I didn't have any issues there. Overall thought this was a fun little bar in Boulder with good happy hour drinks, I would def come back :)

As for the beer, they had 18 to choose from including two gluten free options. I could decide so I went with a beer flight which allowed me to sample several in my typical range of beers. Our server didn't seem too happy that we showed up today, the food took about 30 minutes to get to us and the fried pickles and the Cuban weren't very yummy, we didn't finish either. Disappointing. However the French fries WERE very yummy! And the wrap was unique and pretty good. It's a large space and it was easy to find a seat. The artwork is beautiful. Luckily we found street parking so that was easy too. It's a cash only restaurant (or local personal checks) and while it wasn't a problem, we had cash, we probably wouldn't have come here had we known that beforehand. Credit card sales shouldn't be the consumers issue.
