This charming little establishment is seriously impressive! Upon entering, you are greeted with a smile, a genuine interaction, and the smell of fresh baked bread. The loaves and boules are beautiful and the cookies are huge and inviting. The coffee selection is simple, but carefully and thoughtfully selected. I purchased three cookies (banana Nutella, PB&J, and chocolate chip) and a white sourdough to go. Each one of the cookies was perfect and offered something to suit individual tastes. The dough is moist, buttery, and not too sweet as to accommodate the sweeter fillings, which I can really appreciate. The banana Nutella is creative and the most popular since, well....it's stuffed with Nutella! While insanely delicious, I'm a sucker for a classic chocolate chip so that was actually my favorite. Let's just say that if you're a fan of chocolate the chocolate to dough ratio will not disappoint. I was skeptical of the PB&J because authentic PB can go so wrong in a cookie and often require a sickening level of sweetness, but ThoroughBread has managed to limit the sweetness to the fresh jam that you'll find sitting atop PB nestled within the center of the cookie. Perfect. Now the sourdough. I've been on a quest to find AUTHENTIC sourdough and I'm glad to say I have finally found it. The texture, the air pockets, the chewiness, the natural sour taste, the crust, and the sheen were all spot on. Upon first glance, you may think that everything on the menu is expensive, but once you realize that they use quality ingredients, make everything from scratch, and make huge and hefty products you'll realize A) it's worth every penny B) you're paying for quality C)you're supporting local businesses. I was finally able to come here at around 3 pm on a Saturday. Sadly, they close early on weekends, hence the finally. Anyways, I got the banana nutella cookie. At first, it seemed a bit plain to me and just tasted like banana. However, after a few bites in, I started to see the Nutella oozing out *drool*. It tastes exactly like how you'd expect-- banana and nutella. I liked the fact that the cookie itself wasn't too sugary or sweet, it felt more natural. We were really happy, like many, to have a new spot open in the neighborhood. My husband and I, plus our dog, walked over one morning recently to check out the burridoughs. They are good in concept but seriously lacking in flavor. We both got the avocado, egg, and cheese since we do not eat ham which was in the other options. I'm not sure if they needed more salt or what, but they basically had no flavor until we added the salsa they provided. We were fortunate that there was a bread available and took home a sourdough. The sourdough was fantastic and stayed fresh for a few days which is about how long it took to use it all. The brewed coffee was good, but note they do not have espresso-based coffee drinks. We'll be back I am sure and I'll try a burridough again so see if they have improved. read more

Went in to browse and most of the bread had been sold for the day, but the very nice lady at the counter said they would have a cinnamon raisin loaf ready in 15. So I ordered that and 3 different types of cookies, the banana nutella, the chocolate chip pecan and the peanut butter and jelly. All of them were amazing and the bread was so delicious. Easily the best cinnamon raisin loaf I have ever had. Very friendly service and great sweets. Can't recommend enough. read more

It's nice to have a sweet new restaurant/bakery right in the neighborhood. I've loved the hot cookies I've gotten as well as the really tasty burridoughs, which are like a cross between a breakfast taco and a kolache made with a delicious crispy crust. The best cookies in Austin! I haven't tried any of their other baked goodies, but the cookies are amazing. I've tried the PB&J and the Banana Nutella and both are awesome. They're both not too sweet which is great and the gooey filling inside is a nice surprise. The filling:cookie ratio is just right. The edges are nice and crispy and the middle is still soft and moist. The PB&J isn't too peanut buttery which I like because the jelly isn't overpowered and that's what makes it really unique. The banana in the Banana Nutella also isn't too strong which is also good because the more Nutella the better in my opinion! The other bread they have looks good so I'd love to try it sometime, but if you're looking for a great cookie as a treat or a little gift, this place won't disappoint. read more

Dang, I've been reading about this place so decided to swing by. They only had white loaves for sale because all others on shelf were pre ordered. I bought the white loaf for $7 and it was still warm. Omg. Had to start eating in the car. It's so light with just the right chew and the crust is lightly crusty. ThoroughBread is making the BEST cookie I think I ever had! Let's talk about the the peanut butter and jelly cookie! First all their cookies are big and this one is a peanut butter flavored cookie with jelly in the middle. I think there is a bit of creamy peanut butter too. It is the most perfect cookie in every way! The other cookies they offer are all delicious too. The banana Nutella cookie is a banana flavored cookie (reminds of banana bread) with creamy chocolate hazelnut in the middle and it hits the spot. The traditional chocolate chip with or without pecans is nothing to pass up that's for sure! They also off sourdough breads, traditional bread loafs and burridoughs. You can order online or call it in. When you arrive they will bring to your car or set it outside for you. Super easy! I'm looking forward to trying their breads soon. To be honest, thorough bread may be the death to me. Every time I go I special order 4 of their peanut butter cookies stuffed with Nutella and eat all of them in 2 days. The bread itself is delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of olives so I can't say much for their olive loafs but their plain white loafs are fantastic. Sweet and perfectly moist. Pricing at thorough bread is fair with cookies being 4 dollars each (they're HUGE) and loafs is bread being 9-10 dollars I believe. Overall, I think thorough bread is one of the best bakeries in Austin and I'm sure the fact they always sell out early proves that. I highly recommend thorough bread to tourists and locals alike! read more

ThoroughBread has quickly become my favorite bread bakery in Austin. My personal favorite is the olive sourdough, but all their sourdough boules are wonderful. I grew up in Paris, and their bread would compete with the best bakeries there -- it's really that good. Breads sold out almost every day. I've been to ThoroughBread on a few occasions and have tried several of their items. To start, their cookies are killer!! They are absolutely massive and super delicious - I would highly recommend stopping over here for one. On the other hand, their coffee was a disappointment. I only got coffee from here once, so maybe it was an off day, but it tasted burnt. I was really excited to try their burridoughs on another occasion, which are essentially elevated hot pockets. I tried the avocado/egg/cheese one, and re-heating this with the avocado made the avocado taste a little funky, so I'm not sure that I would get that again. However, they are large enough to be a full meal and pretty cheap, so it's a good value! read more

Do yourself a favor and get to this spot as fast as you can. So far we've tried the whole wheat, olive and rye sourdough loaves and it's the best bread in town. The cookies are just incredible. My husband prefers the banana Nutella; I like the chocolate chip (and I don't typically like sweets). The burridoughs are great. Items are usually warm, as they bake there all day long.
