Love there cookies, I'm not a cookie person, but some places are exceptional, TB is at the top of the list. Fresh, thick, moist, gooey inside and crispy edges, not too sweat, just perfect cookies. We just come and get cookies to go, so can't say much about service. But if you haven't tried there cookies already, do yourself a favor and give them a try.
I went back for the banana Nutella and I must say it was the best cookie I have ever had. If you haven't stopped by please do. Also the sourdough bread is phenomenal!! Perfect crisp and softness within. Service is always impeccable and the ambiance comfort with a pinch of flour
The cookies here are distinct in their puck-size form, but the texture is incredibly soft yet still with some structural integrity that holds it together. PBJ COOKIE: Pretty decent. This cookie (as with all their cookies) has the thinnest golden brown, light crisp coat on the outside, giving way to this very soft interior. It errs more on the peanut butter side than the jelly. Would probably not crave it again, since I prefer much more jelly in the center. BLUEBERRY SCONE: Incredibly soft. It does not fall into the traps of a dry cafe scone, so you know that the butter was properly incorporated into this.
Located next to convenience store with a small parking spot that has only 4 spots shared with other business, this grab and go place has some really delicious bread and cookies. Their cookies are a little more on denser bigger side, kind of like Levain style cookies except with more filling in the middle if you get a stuffed Ollie and not quite the crispy bottom that Levain bakery cookies achieve. I got their classic chocolate chip cookie, which was good and for being such a big cookie filled with chocolate chips I am glad it wasn't overly sweet though you can definitely split one cookie with two people. I also got the Banana Nutella cookie which reminds me if banana bread decided it wanted to make a little sandwich with Nutella in the middle and then shaped in cookie form. It's more of a doughy cookie than chewy or crispy cookie. We also got the chocolate peanut butter cookie and you better love peanut butter because the peanut butter is strong, but delicious. We also got the wheat sourdough loaf and the crust on it is incredible and I loved that they do the fancy markings on top to like one the bread/steam to escape (I should know what it's called but I never got into my sourdough era). Even for being made with wheat four and having blend of seeds, I did not find it too overwhelming and found it delicious to make a grilled cheese and loved that even though it's healthy it didn't taste overly grainy or overly "healthy" if that makes sense. It had a really great crust and interior and some nice little bubbles. I also got the avocado, egg, and cheese burridough which I thought it was ok - I wish there was more filling, I found that the bread to filling ratio was more bread than filling, and wish the filling had more salt/flavor. I am glad it came with mild salsa to dip it in to give it that extra kick/salt it needed. Probably my least favorite out of everything I tried. Parking lot wise they have a very small lot shared with other businesses. Don't park at the convienient store next door. There is also street parking. There is no eating inside, but they do have a small bench outside (unshaded) if you want to enjoy the treats right then and there.
Service was in and out and they don't play with these pastries/cookies! Both are generous portions and could easily share between two people. The avocado/egg/cheese was very filling. However parking was very difficult. Visited on a Tuesday morning and had to circle around the block three times to find parking.
Unassuming building but great sourdough bread and solid cookie . If you buy the day old one, you get 1.50 off - Sign me up. You know if they only have like 10 things in the menu, it'll all be good.
So glad I found this place on my search for the best sourdough in Austin. If not number 1, this is certainly in the running! A very unassuming building tucked away in the neighborhoods south of Barton Springs, limited space inside and out, but what this place does they do exceptionally. They have 3 options for Sourdough daily: white, wheat/seeded, and rye. Each of these have their own strength, but my favorite has slowly become the wheat loaf! With 3-4 different seeds folded in for extra texture and heartiness, this loaf slices beautifully and satisfies fully. They also do sweet/savory pastries and baked goods as pictured! While generally not a full service establishment, the staff has always been kind and informative. Definitely stop here and try some killer bread. A new favorite and hidden gem!
some of the best cookies ive had in the city! super gooey in the middle with that crunchy exterior. kinda a drive for us so will be visiting sparingly, keeps it special that way
I've been on a chocolate chip cookie binge as of late and I came across *many* people who swore by thoroughbread. I hauled my ass early on a Saturday morning to ensure I could get my hands on one. And upon my first bite, lemme just say I was blown away. This is *the* chocolate chip cookie spot in all of Austin. Also the lady at the cash register was the sweetest (no pun intended) making small talk and running to open the door for me as my hands were full. You'll definitely see me around here more often!
So this is a very, very, very small bakery. You basically walk in and you're right there at the counter so it's definitely grab and go. That being said, I consider myself a cookie connoisseur and decided to give this place a try. I normally don't like the big style cookies because they taste too cake'y, like a very popular TickTock chain people over rate. This was a very large cookie that actually tasted like a cookie. I was surprised at how they were able to integrate both crispy and soft elements of a regular cookie just larger. I definitely enjoyed it and if I'm ever back in town I'll try some more. Also, NO SALT NEEDED! Not sure how that's become another overated trend too but trust me they're fine as is!
After trying this place I'm not surprised in the slightest that they have a 5 star rating (a rare feat). Holy cow their bread was good. The white sour was perfect for roasting with butter, making paninis, and even morning French toast. Then there's the cookies, which themselves could be confused with loaves of bread they're so huge. I had the chocolate chip and the pbj. Crisp on the outside, gooey inside, amazing flavor. We also tried a burridough, which was certainly a clever name and delicious breakfast, though not as out of the park compared to the cookies. The cookies are a MUST. Oh and to boot the staff were so friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person. Tip: order ahead online so you know they'll have your favorites in stock for you. read more

Banana Nutella cookie $4 - our favorite cookie even though both were super good. Thicc cookie w/ so much Nutella inside. You can taste the banana, it's like banana bread yum! Cookie was fresh and crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside. Pb&j cookie $4 - so good! Lots of filling. Cookie was as big as my hand! Avo egg & cheese burridough $6.50 - pretty big, very good. Reminded me of cheesy garlic bread on the outside. Salsa made it even better. Small parking lot for a few cars, but we were the only ones at 10am on a Thursday. There's a small lot next door at the laundromat, so it should be OK to park there since you're in and out quickly. Nowhere to sit inside, but there are a couple of picnic benches outside where we ate. read more

Delightful bakery! We stopped by after a visit to Umlauf Sculpture garden, and just wow! It's a small space, with a couple of tables, and a variety of baked goods from sourdough breads to incredible cookies. We tried the peanut butter and jam cookie as well as the banana Nutella. Both were stuffed cookies, and both were INCREDIBLE. Pro-Tips: - limited coffee choices (but you're really coming here for the baked goods). - try (and share) any of the stuffed cookies - small space with a lot of character read more

Updating my review. Unfortunately they no longer add salt sprinkles upon request but they can warm up the cookie for ya. There's two picnic benches in the front so you can immediately enjoy your cookie and coffee. These are the best choc chip cookies ever. I can not emphasize this enough! Pro tip: Grab a cookie here, a breakfast taco/drink at the Bluebonnet Mart next door, and bring your picnic to Zilker park read more

"Hole in the wall" without the normally amazing attribute of being great. The white sourdough pretty much tasted like white bread. It was dense and just good and for $10, I expected better. I specifically ventured out for bread, but saw this bakery had other items so I picked up a scone (blueberry, lemon, rosemary), a German chocolate chip cookie and what passes as a kolache. The rosemary in the scone was overpowering and the scone was too sweet--not a balanced treat...no one at home took more than a bite. The German chocolate chip is a great concept, but again the coconut in the cookie is overpowering--pretty much all you taste. No one finished the cookie--which is unheard of at our house. The kolachi type food item was ok. We definitely won't be back. I also got a coffee and it was not good. A bakery should have great coffee. Service was great! read more
I dragged my boyfriend here this AM for "coffee", but it was really for a breakfast cookie if I'm being honest with myself. On the coffee note, they do offer drip coffee and cold brew (drip was good!), but no fancy lattes/espresso - just to level set. The food: -burridough (avo/egg): 7/10, pretty tasty -cookie (pb Nutella): 8.5/10, loved it -cookie (chocolate chip): 7.5/10, above average My boyfriend got the burridough, and kept laughing about the name because he's a loser. There was much more filling than I had anticipated, which was surprising and tasty. The COOKIES. I wanted to see if these lived up to the hype - and they sure did. It's worth noting that I heated them up in the oven for 10min, which (I assume) greatly improved my experience as they were warm and gooey. The banana Nutella had much more banana flavor vs what I thought would come through - which I loved. The chocolate chip was good, but nothing too special about it. I will say it was much more dough-y vs a levain type, chip-heavy cookie which I actually prefer. As others have noted, you can also buy day old cookies for $2. I wanted the full experience, but may capitalize on the in the future. I'll definitely be back to try the PBJ one! read more
The bakery is tucked inside the Barton Hills neighborhood and really has a neighborly feel. Small space, so there was a sign outside that said mentioned one group at a time indoors (COVID protocols). I ordered a Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookie, two Burridoughs (avocado, egg, cheese), and a Coffee. I love coffee, but don't regularly drink it since it triggers my acid reflux coughs (a big no-no in the COVID era). The cookie was great, however, in all respects. A thicker mound shape, rather than the thin cookies you're used to seeing, but it really lends to getting the crisp on the outside, but the soft doughiness on the inside - 10/10 would recommend. The Burridough is also great as well, and they brand it as a mix between a breakfast taco and a kolache - I'd say it resembles a kolache more so. Don't make the same mistake I did and decline salsa with it, the inside was packed with eggs so salsa of some form makes a big difference. I had salsa at home so I made up for it, and it was still delicious anyhow. I only ended up eating one and saving the other for later. A note that this Burridough is definitely more filling than either a kolache or a breakfast taco. In the end, I'd say ThoroughBread is going to be one of my new top recommendation options! read more
The friendly self-taught baker Ryan definitely earned a cult following almost instantaneously with the opening of this artisan bread shop. His loaves and sourdoughs are consistently sold out early in the day. I arrived at noon, and the only thing they had left were cookies. For bread, it would be good to order it a day in advance or to arrive early. I've seen sourdoughs in other places, and I've seen loaves in other places. But I've rarely, if ever, seen a whole wheat sourdough. And there are special offerings which you may need to check on Facebook for details (or call). A lot of the breads are around $7, reasonable comparing to supermarket competition. So I came, no bread - but $4 cookies, which I wasn't going to get until someone mentioned pecan chocolate chip and that it was warm. So I caved in - and these cookies are two-thumbs thick! Crusty on the outside and oozy in the middle - definitely rich and good. For the cookie monsters in Austin, this would be a great find. read more

This is the best little bakery! They are the friendliest -- Jamie at the counter is so kind. I haven't had their breads yet (YET!) but this is a MUST go for their cookies. My favorite was the Nutella banana one & the plain chocolate chip. They're every bit of delicious. I also tried the avocado and egg burridough & loved it. Next time I'm going to try the brisket one. read more

Yum! Had 3 of their cookies. The banana filled with Nutella was my favorite. Great banana flavor. The peanut butter filled with jam was a PB&J throwback. I enjoyed the pecan chocolate chip one that wasn't filled too. Each of them was crispy on the outside and plenty gooey on the inside. I also tried their sourdough and enjoyed it. read more
I haven't been in Austin long but this is already ranking as one of my favorite bakeries. They offer a selection of breads, cookies, and burridoughs. I ordered the sourdough, banana nutella, pbj, and chocolate pecan cookies, and the brisket burridoughs. Sourdough - this bread makes my heart happy, absolutely amazing, when I picked it up my whole car smelled like fresh bread Cookies - My fav was the PBJ the flavors balanced really well, banana/nutella was waaayyy more banany than I thought but also good, the chocolate pecan was alright but I didn't fall in love with it as much as the other 2 Burridoughs - love the concept of these but think there was too nuch egg to brisket ratio, I almost needed some grilled onions in there or something to combat all the eggs. This comes with salsa. I enjoyed it but just wish the flavors were more balanced Overall enjoyed and would definitely go again! read more

This neighborhood bakery has the most delicious breads, cookies, and burridoughs. If you are a fan of fresh breads, be sure to check them out. My favorite is the whole wheat sourdough, but the white and rye are delicious, too. They do make traditional white and wheat, but i just can't get past the sourdough. The loaves are really large (for a single lady), but it takes French toast to a new level and whatever's left makes bread crumbs that i store in the freezer. Sorry, back yard birds, I'm not sharing! read more

Firstly, I love that this is a family affair! It's a small but mighty operation pumping out loaves of bread AND swoon-worthy cookies. Bread: My olive loaf cost $9, which is hefty, but so is the loaf. And, to top it off, they had a few day old loaves that weren't sellable (but definitely edible), so they threw in one of those, so technically, I got two loaves for $9. I'm not a sourdough girl, but their sourdough had my eyes popping out of my head at a recent event, so definitely try a piece of that before naysaying it if you're a fellow sourno, like me. I'm loving the olive bread. It's great as a stand alone with just a little butter or spread of some kind (leftover chipotle pecan pesto from Bouldin Creek Cafe, let's say), but also a great base for my egg sandwiches in the morning. Cookies: Ooooooooh child. Their most notable one is the banana Nutella and if you like either of those things, you'll be head over banana peels for that. A surprise one for me was the PB&J. I think most peanut butter cookies fall short, but this actually had PB in it (it wasn't just the cookie dough) so when you pulled it apart, it was a medley of PB&J, much like a sandwich can be. These are the same look, girth, and dough-y interior as some other local faves like Henbit and Teddy V's vs the pan banged/flat cookies like at Sour Duck. Their tip jar is donated to a different charity every week or month, so when you are tipping them because of their warmth and friendliness, you're really giving back to a nonprofit that is near and dear to them. read more
