Cute store front in sunset valley. Everything was fresh made and made in store, and on display as you wait in line to order. The inside is pretty small but they have a little outdoor area. The food and kombucha itself were both delicious, but a little bit on the pricy side. The egg and cheese sandwich was great but next time I'll be trying something with more on it. This place rocks! I am a die hard bagel fanatic and loving sourdough bread right now. And I saw this place had sourdough bagels and I had to try it. I got a sesame bagel with schmear of scallion cream cheese... and it was amazing! Not only was it crispy and savoury, it comes out in a little tin tray. Forgot what the hubs ordered but it was delicious, see photo. Introducing friends to Casper deliciousness today and they concur with how good the sourdough bagels are. We tried the cream cheese and berry jam combination, which was so good. We also tried the veggie sandwich, served on their focaccia, which had lots of good crunch but a bit dry/ could've benefited from more hummus. The egg salad sandwich was perfection! Found this place on the map as I was looking for bagel shops. I love that they have kombucha on tap and also have other bakery items for sale. This is a great bagel spot if you're in South Austin. I ordered the jalapeño bagel with egg salad and the everything bagel with lox. The jalapeño bagel had great flavor, but it was slightly too tough for my liking. The egg salad on top was nice and creamy though. The everything bagel was better in my opinion. It was softer and not as hard to bite into. The lox and other toppings were delicious. I would have preferred some more lox and capers for $16. The staff was nice, and the bagel was ready in a timely manner. The inside is cute and decorated nicely. There is more seating outside too. Overall, I think this is a solid option if you're craving a bagel, but I don't think I would go out of my way to visit again anytime soon. read more

From a New Yorker who is NOT a morning person, I came at 9am to try the bagels and I have to admit it was worth it. I ordered the everything bagel with roasted garlic shmear and tomatoes as well as the jalapeño bagel with maple jalapeño shmear, and both bagels were toasted to perfection (a light and soft crisp) while still keeping a soft and chewy interior. The bread themselves were delicious and the toppings only added to that. My order at any bagel place is always a shmear on an everything bagel with tomatoes, and it did not steer me wrong here. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy and the bright flavors were really brought out by the sprinkle of salt on top (although it was a tad bit salty). Something unique, also, was the inclusion of black peppers (which I am not big on but for others who enjoy a peppery flavor, they might be really into this). The garlic of the shmear was a bit subtle and I think could've been stronger (just as a personal preference). 4/5 stars. The jalapeño bagel with maple jalapeño shmear really surprised me with how much I enjoyed it as this is something I would've never ordered if my friend hadn't suggested it to me. The bagel was flavorful without being overpowering/too spicy and it paired very well with the shmear, which had a slight sweetness from the maple and a VERY subtle savory pickle flavor from the jalapeño without being sour. 5/5 stars read more

All the bagels were toasted perfectly and the shmears themselves were absolutely delicious. The tomato was refreshing and paired nicely with the umami of the roasted garlic and everything seasoning. We do wish they had jalapeno bagels left to try with the maple jalapeno shmear but the sesame was still delicious with it. The tuna kimchi melt was large and all the components worked so well together. It comes with chips and a spear of housemade dill pickle. The egg salad was smooth and creamy, but not too dilly. No one in Austin is doing bagels like Casper Fermentables, they are unmatched! This place has quickly become our go-to weekend breakfast spot. Our favorites are the lox bagel, the pizza bagel (try it with the jalapeño bagel- yum!), and the incredibly delicious sourdough cinnamon roll. Casper Fermentables is also perfectly located next to an awesome coffee shop (Stouthaus) and has plenty of outdoor seating. I love this little spot with amazing bagels (I have hashimotos, so gluten and I are not friends) and I love that I can have my bagel and eat it too. They have a variety of bagels and smears, both dairy & vegan options. They also do sandwiches and salads and make their own kombucha. Service here is also so incredibly friendly. Grandma approved!! My grandma is extremely picky about her food and restaurants and she still raves about how delicious and spot on this place is. My favorite things are the tuna sandwich, the chocolate rugelach and the pizza bagel. Tuna salad is PERFECTION and honestly so is everything else, you cannot go wrong. Knew about this place for a while and finally went... ordered the lox and tried to get a loaf to take home but they sold out of a lot and eventually sold out of everything while we were eating about an hour before they close. Bagels are legit, probably the best bagels I've had in Austin (still not a New York bagel but, you know, the water right?) went back 3 weekends in a row and had whitefish and also the cream cheese with kimchi. Stopped by to takeout lunch the other day. Ordered in person and it didn't take more than 5ish minutes after ordering. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it seemed pretty popular despite its location near a freeway. Finally came here on a Sunday morning - easy big parking lot with seating indoors and outdoors. Not a super huge place but good amount of space if not fully packed. We decided to try the following: 1. Pizza bialy - this was warmed for us and was yummy with a tomato cheese filling in the middle and cheese on top. 2. Turkey sandwhich - the sourdough bread was divine on the sandwich but I have to say it was OVERLOADED with Mayo and pretty dry non flavorful Turkey imo. Great food, generally reasonable turnaround time from order to delivery of food at the restaurant, kind servers. It's not super cheap, but it's worth it. Not a ton of seating available and not always a ton of parking, so be patient. It's worth the wait. read more

Finally got in to try Casper! I'll be honest I've been trying a few times and their hours make it a bit difficult. I imagine that's the nature of long fermentation but hopefully in the future they can extend their hours. But alas! I got to try a nice spread of fermented treats. Starting with the focaccia, springy, chewy, salty and delicious. A little more dense than you might expect for focaccia but I enjoyed it all the same. LOVE the crispy salt crumbles on top. I tried a caramelized onion and turmeric artichoke (?), and both were great with the latter having some nice sour bites interspersed (see the yellow things in the picture). $7 / slice. The kombucha was lovely as well. More acidic than most store bought which is what I was hoping for. Low sugar, just all the good stuff. Total for 5 items was $29. Not bad. Inside was cute and comfortable. Can't wait to try more from them soon :) read more

This place was the jam. Pat on the back to my husband for finding this place when I mentioned I was craving a bagel. I mean, I was thinking like going to HEB but who knew there was a specialty shop for bagels in good ole Austin Texas. The bagels were perfectly crusty on the outside and easy to bite if ya know what I'm sayin. Not too dense, not too bready, not too chewy.... just right. We tried the two main reviewer recommendations and they did not disappoint. I was a little worried my kiddos would be adverse to the choices we made but they devoured their portions....and then some. I will have to say my favorite was the Smoked Whitefish Salad. For those of you who are reading this and are thinking - meh... just trust me. You may become a believer. It's a pretty small establishment with some outdoor seating, so if you don't get here early you'll be standing in line. We ordered three bagels, a boring one (that was mine - cream cheese only lol), a lox bagel and a white fish bagel. We ordered one of each (3) rugelach and all of them were to die for. We also ordered the caramelized onion focaccia which was insanely delicious (and greasy = good).
