This spot is tucked inside an unassuming shopping center on S Lamar beside Starbucks. It's a great mom-and-pop shop that serves fresh goodies and breakfast as early as 6 a.m. You can tell they're a neighborhood staple because I've been in here a few times where the owners are chatting with families with kids. Excellent service no matter what time of the morning you come in. I used to come here early on weekends if I woke up too early to get a croissant breakfast sandwich (which they would warm up) and a few donuts. I almost don't want to tell y'all this, but this is the best apple fritter in Austin. It's crunch, craggy, sweet, and large. I once took a box of assorted donuts and an apple fritter down to family in SA and was tasked with returning with more fritters next time. Apple fritters are so good they taste amazing after an hour's drive. Come on! Next time you're in the area before 1 p.m., stop in to treat yourself and support a local business. Donuts so good they will turn a donut hater into a believer. The fact that I haven't written about Combo Donuts yet amazes me. The love affair I have with their glazed donut is truly the romance of the century. I will start off with the kolaches before I get into my ode to the glazed donut. The kolaches are actually spectacular. The jalapeño kolaches have whole jalapeño slices in them instead of just being in the sausage which I enjoy. I'd like to say I know a thing or two about kolaches being a born and raised texan, and these are my favorite in Austin by far. They really aren't trying to do too much, they're just a classic done EXCEPTIONALLY well. Honestly, that is Combo Donuts whole thing, classics done exceptionally well. The donuts aren't anything special or innovative. Not a maple bacon gold plated donut in sight. But, when I sit down on the patio with a cup of milk and eat my glazed combo donut it is truly me and that donut against the world. I seriously do not know what kind of sweet love they put into their donuts, but, I have been going for the past 2.5 years and have a religious experience every time. I love combo donuts. I love how you walk into combo and it's just the funniest little ambiance, truly a good ole ma and pa hole in the wall donut shop right on s lamar keeping this neighborhood alive and well. Updated: Alright I'm back. Again. I went to grab a couple donuts and didn't have cash so I had to grab 3 to meet their $5 minimum for credit card, so needless to say I'm now well experienced with their donuts. Straight to the point delicious donuts, possibly best in Austin. No fancy nonsense making their donuts look like a 3rd grader's art project like other popular ATX spots. Also a fraction of the price. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST YEAST DONUTS. I've lived in Memphis, Chicago and now Austin and this shop's yeast donuts cannot be topped. They are so soft, light and perfectly glazed. Woke up Sunday craving a classic Apple Fritter and was dismayed to see that most of the swanky donut shops have a lot more complex stuff ans miss this staple. Neighborhood reviews were strong for Combo so we gave it a try. -Apple Fritter (5 of 5 stars): smashed so no doughy middle, just the right ratio of glaze (one side only) and just crispy enough -Classic Grandma donut (5 of 5): so light yet crispy! -Croissant Sandwich (4 of 5): flaky croissant, oodles of bacon... downfall was American cheese not cheddar and the micro reheat ... but we were so pleasantly surprised to have this protein rich option to round out our sugar rush Definitely will be back! read more

This is the best donut shop in Austin. I have scoured the city for donut shops and combo takes the cake. It never disappoints. Their traditional doughnuts are light and fluffy but also substantial. The size is great and each donut will run you somewhere near $1. The owners are so nice as well! They remember my boyfriend and I's order and remember what's going on in our lives which is so sweet. There is a $5 card minimum, but that's not hard to reach LOL. If I only want a donut and don't have cash, I'll get a couple extra and give them to some of the homeless people on North Lamar. Tried for the first time today (was in the area and noticed all the great reviews). I must say, their donuts are very, very good. They have your standard selections you would typically find in many donut shops. Their apple fritter was my favorite and their yeast donuts are a nice plump size and delicious. COMPLAINT I Do Love this place. It is hands down my favorite shop in the area. But today I had a very annoying experience. I frequent the store 2-3 times a week. I spend on average $15-$20 per visit and I always leave an additional optional tip. I talk this shop up to friends and family and they have all fallen in love for the place as well. But after I had paid $16 for my kolaches and donuts (plus $3 tip) I turned to the coffee station and grabbed 3 coffee creamers so I can enjoy my purchase with the coffee I had made at home. As I put the creamers in my bag the girl behind the counter, in front of other customers, yelled out "Those are not free." Excuse me? I am a loyal customer, I am a good patron, I tip because it's courteous and I see others leave without tipping- often, and you are going to call me out for coffee Creamer packets?? It felt VERY unprofessional and very uncalled for considering how much money I spend here on a regular basis. read more
