My in-laws are in Austin right off South Congress, so Salty is always a must when visiting. The kolache with Terry Black's brisket is quintessential Austin eats and the donuts never miss. Service is fast, friendly and the space is always clean, warm and inviting. I usually get a coffee too, but that's hit or miss depending if you get an espresso drink (sometimes espresso is burnt), but I won't knock any points off because everything else is THAT good. read more

First time here and we had the best experience. The brown butter and salt is simple but wow, the combo is addicting. We also got the seasonal donut called pistachios cannoli. It's very delicious too and love the cream inside. I would choose these over a typical donut when I need a treat. Pricing is quite reasonable for the quality and size of the donut. read more

The churro & dulce de leche brioche donut is both a treat for the eyes (an adorable star shape) and the taste buds. Covered in cinnamon sugar and filled with whipped dulce de leche, the whole combo just works. I find myself marveling at the unexpected sweet and salty combination, then quickly taking a second bite. I love The Salty Donuts...full stop! I am especially fund of their donut holes. I vividly remember the first time I had The Salty Donut holes. My taste buds were on high alert and I did not put the bag down until I finished them all...in the parking lot. Today we were served Matcha lemonade with donut holes (glazed, chocolate and old fashion). The Matcha lemonade was refreshing with a little hint of Matcha but more of lemonade. We had a short weekend trip to Austin and I am glad we made a stop at Salty Donut. We tried a pistachio cannoli donut and loved it. So I bought four more to bring back to Chicago with us. The donut is fluffy with just the right about of filling, chocolate, and crushed pistachio. We had a big breakfast prior to stopping by. If we had the capacity, we would have also liked to try the yuzu and matcha donut. Beautiful and spacious Salty location! I got a free donut for my birthday. I chose the churro & dulce de leche star. It was solid, and surprisingly (but thankfully) not too sweet! The people were super kind and friendly. I look forward to going back, as it seems like a great place to work or catch up with friends. In terms of parking, there are a few spots, but not a ton, so you may have to park on the street. Nevertheless, I'm thankful that there were some parking spots! read more

Located on South Congress, the salty donut is a cute shabby chic coffee/donut shop. It has a great location with ample parking. There is also street parking available and a private parking lot. When visiting downtown, parking is always an issue. So it's always good to know about the parking situation. Really enjoyed my visit. It was my first time here so I asked one of the patrons in line what she liked the most. I was so glad that she was open to my ask. So my wife and I decided to take her up on her suggestions in order a few and a couple of coffees. My my my the donuts are delicious. They also look so inviting. We also enjoyed the coffee as well as the atmosphere there. These are not your every day donuts so consider this more of a desserty-styled donut place. Also, the prices were a little lofty for my taste, so I expected more and received just that. This place is a bit more, so don't come expecting coffee and donuts. You must want to dress up for the occasion. I loved the charm of the business and plan to come back when I'm on this side of town. A suggestion to the business, you may want to kick up the genuine Smiles and cheer that your place exudes. I didn't get that at the counter and felt that was the only thing missing. The Salty Donut is a super cute, small little shape next door to Magnolia Cafe. You walk in, and order at the counter, then walk through to the pickup area. Service was very quick! GLUTEN FREE DONUTS!!! I got a banana bread-like donut and although it was delicious, the cream on top was a bit too salty for my taste. They rotate through different gf donuts, so it changes pretty regularly. The coffee was perfection! There is parking! Hurrah. There are a few limited spots in front of the store and additional little lot in the back for parking. There is also access to street parking close by. This is a big store location! They have all the donuts. I went here specifically for a limited edition and they still had them available (it was bubble gum) in the evening (around 5PM). Though I didn't love the limited edition flavor the donut itself was amazingly fresh and delicious. The Salty is truly a next level donut and kolache experience. When I asked my daughter what she was most looking forward to over the summer at the end of last school year she quickly replied eating "donuts and swimming". Every Saturday morning assuming she wakes up early enough we have been going to new fancy donut shows. The Salty is by far the best we have had so far. I had an Offline coupon for $10 off and seeing pictures of their donuts, I thought that'd cover like one treat but ordering the mixed berry cheesecake donut and a brisket stuffed kolache, we hadn't met that $10 mark so got to add an order of the Oreo donut holes. Everything was faaaantastic, the donut was stuffed with a creamy cheesecake filling and the berry icing was packed with fruity flavor, I was hesitant to share (but I did, because I couldn't imagine letting my bf miss out) The kolache dough was perfection, almost the consistency of yeast roll with a great chew and the brisket filling was super generous and juicy. The donut holes tasted like cake donuts that were rolled in a thicc layer of Oreo crumbs but it was the most authentically Oreo flavored anything I've had that wasn't straight out of their classic blue package lol. Will def be making my way back and glad to pay full price on return, they had some gorgeous treats and I wanna try em all. Just a note as of (6/30/25) it's a busy road with tons of businesses and the tiniest parking lots so be prepared to maybe do some loops to find street parking or fall into the neighborhoods behind, but the trek if for sure worth it. read more

The selling point of this place is having rotational seasonal donuts paired with a mix of the yearlong donuts: one GF donut, denser old fashioned donuts, and brioche donuts. GOOD, BUT NOT A MUST: Mixed Berry donut - sweet and very generous with this cheesecake filling on the inside. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND: Vegan PBJ donut. It is heavy on the inside because it's filled with this peanut butter filling. However, there was no trace of sweetness with this donut. The bright pink glaze on top actually does not come through, compared to the very thick peanut butter filling inside. The filling also didn't quite taste like peanut butter either, so it tasted quite bland overall. read more

The first time I tried The Salty Donut was at a Nike Run Club event two years ago at the Domain. I had a churro dulce de leche donut and it was pillowy-soft and delicious. It's also star-shaped. So adorable! I made my first visit to their store with the intention of only getting a hot caffeinated drink but since the long line snakes through the store, you're left staring at the trays of freshly glazed and decorated donuts behind a glass case just begging you to take them home. So I caved and ordered a brown butter salted donut and a vanilla bean latte. Brown butter makes everything instantly delicious and a sprinkling of salt amplifies the flavor. My vanilla bean latte was delicious. When I got home I had to reheat it in the microwave (please don't judge me!) And I was pleasantly surprised to see actual vanilla bean seeds floating around. It smelled amazing! While I do love their donuts and drinks, they are quiet pricey: between $4 to $6 for one donut! Also, the line was really long and moved super slow. It's been some time since I've visited a specialty donut spot, and I couldn't wait to try The Salty Donut for a special night hosted by Your Local Book Club ATX. While I wouldn't normally recommend hosting over 65 people in such a small business, the staff welcomed us with such kindness and patience. I had friends visiting from out-of-town so we stopped at the Salty before hitting all the shops on South Congress. As a party of 6, we ordered nearly one of everything. My favorites were the brisket kolache, jalapeño kolache, the pop tart and the traditional donuts. The Apple Cinnabun and Churro donuts were in the mid-range for us and the Cookie Monster and Oreo Cake donuts were let downs for us.
