    Donuts

This spot is tucked inside an unassuming shopping center on S Lamar beside Starbucks. It's a great mom-and-pop shop that serves fresh goodies and breakfast as early as 6 a.m. You can tell they're a neighborhood staple because I've been in here a few times where the owners are chatting with families with kids. Excellent service no matter what time of the morning you come in. I used to come here early on weekends if I woke up too early to get a croissant breakfast sandwich (which they would warm up) and a few donuts. I almost don't want to tell y'all this, but this is the best apple fritter in Austin. It's crunch, craggy, sweet, and large. I once took a box of assorted donuts and an apple fritter down to family in SA and was tasked with returning with more fritters next time. Apple fritters are so good they taste amazing after an hour's drive. Come on! Next time you're in the area before 1 p.m., stop in to treat yourself and support a local business. Sidenote: I believe they have a card minimum, but I always come in here spending over $10 (and still try to pay with cash) anyway.

I absolutely love this place. First, the employees that work here are so kindhearted. Secondly, the donuts are always fresh. So soft, and well made. You can taste that they are made with LOVE. Third, the store gives classic donut shop in a small town. It's simple, but it's good that way. 5 stars across the board from me! It's my fave part of the week when I get to stop by.

Combo Donuts is truly a hidden gem of South Lamar! This place has the best kolaches, and the most incredible donuts, in all of Austin. The dough they use for everything here is out of this world and makes all their products so fluffy and delicious. Margaret and her family are also the kindest, friendliest people- I'm happy to support such a great local business. Combo Donuts really can't be beat! A few of my favorite items: Sausage and cheese kolache Boudain kolache Maple donuts Croissant bacon sandwhich Donut holes

Donuts so good they will turn a donut hater into a believer. The fact that I haven't written about Combo Donuts yet amazes me. The love affair I have with their glazed donut is truly the romance of the century. I will start off with the kolaches before I get into my ode to the glazed donut. The kolaches are actually spectacular. The jalapeño kolaches have whole jalapeño slices in them instead of just being in the sausage which I enjoy. I'd like to say I know a thing or two about kolaches being a born and raised texan, and these are my favorite in Austin by far. They really aren't trying to do too much, they're just a classic done EXCEPTIONALLY well. Honestly, that is Combo Donuts whole thing, classics done exceptionally well. The donuts aren't anything special or innovative. Not a maple bacon gold plated donut in sight. But, when I sit down on the patio with a cup of milk and eat my glazed combo donut it is truly me and that donut against the world. I seriously do not know what kind of sweet love they put into their donuts, but, I have been going for the past 2.5 years and have a religious experience every time. I love combo donuts. I love how you walk into combo and it's just the funniest little ambiance, truly a good ole ma and pa hole in the wall donut shop right on s lamar keeping this neighborhood alive and well. I have never been to combo and not seen the sweet lady who is always at the front. If combo ever tried to shut down I would chain myself to the building in protest.

I ordered my tried and true Miss Shortcake with their famous cake donut with cream cheese icing and fresh cut strawberries. The donut is so indulgent and was served warm with the most delectable flavor combinations. Tried the Son of a Peach with cream cheese icing, spiced peach filling, cake mix topping, cinnamon and sugar with honey butter. This one was a bit too overindulgent and sweet for my liking but was definitely worth a try. Portions are huge and can be shared as the donut is not as good warmed over. The Glazed Yeast (The Prime Donut)......... if a donut maker can't do glazed, you might as well forget about the rest. Fantastic. Perfect. The glaze that flakes though moist and a donut that slightly squishes, pops slightly back and has that perfect texture....... And yes Flavor! Perfect Glazed. Well done. A good size and not a weak donut. I did a fancy chocolate cake donut of the Butterfinger kind. A fantastic blend of a good chocolate cake and the touch of peanut from the crisp. A good combo of about 50/50 share of flavor. Focusing on the cake donut resulted in a favorable chocolate cake donut. Freshness is key. Lastly was a buttermilk bar. Good, just good. I know where to get great. You'll have to read my other donut posts to find out where. Just good. Glaze could improve and the complete cool through would be helpful. The dough was alright, not bad. I was craving Ube and might have gone a bit overboard on ordering dessert because they had so many Ube options. The building is colorful and decorated in bright pink with fun artwork and decor for an uplifting vibe. The line moved quickly and the service was friendly fast and efficient. I was able to place my order and pay with Apple Pay. I ordered the Taiyaki Sundae with black sesame and ube swirl soft serve served in a fish shaped mochi Belgian style waffle with Oreo dust on top. You can customize your sundae with filling like organic red sweet beans, Nutella or custard and toppings like Oreo dust, fruity pebbles or rainbow sprinkles. I ate this on site and the nutty black sesame balanced the sweet ube perfectly, and the Oreo topping added the best crunch. They had a variety of mochi donut flavors. Lucky for me, nothing was sold out today. I ordered the Oreo ube mochi donut and ube milk tea to-go. I ate the mochi donut later that day and it was probably my least favorite item from my order. It had the chewy mochi texture however I didn't get enough of the rich ube flavor. It had somewhat of a bitter aftertaste and the Oreo overpowered the ube. I drank the ube milk tea the next day and it was creamy, smooth, and not overly sweet. I really enjoyed the flavor profile of the beverage and would order it again. Overall, enjoyed my selections and will be back to try more dessert options and flavors from one of the most unique Asian dessert spots in Austin!

We were on Rainey street for SXSW and I had seen several people with the pink bag with a dog stamped on the front and wanted to see what all the hype was about. We came across the pink trailer with the dog logo and decided to give it a try. Service was quick and friendly, I was able to place my order and they accepted Apple Pay. Everything was made fresh to order, so there's a bit of a wait, but it's worth it when you get them hot. I tried the Italian cream cake donuts. They have specialty flavors that were $1 more and all of them were appealing to me. Unfortunately, you can not order a sampler pack of different flavors and have to just pick one flavor which is why I am giving 4 stars. My recommendation would be to offer a sampler pack as to not have to commit to one flavor. The pink dog stamped package came with multiple tiny donuts inside. They were freshly made, soft, and served warm. My friend ordered the regular donuts and I have to say that I didn't notice the Italian cream cake flavor as much as I would have liked compared to the original. There was a good balance of sweetness and a creamy, slightly rich profile without feeling overly heavy. The mini size is perfect because you can try a few without feeling like you've gone overboard and it is great for sharing. Overall, Little Lucy's is a solid dessert stop when you want something warm, fresh and satisfying. I would not recommend paying extra for the specialty flavors like Italian cream cake donuts and will just go with the original donuts in the future.
