This spot is tucked inside an unassuming shopping center on S Lamar beside Starbucks. It's a great mom-and-pop shop that serves fresh goodies and breakfast as early as 6 a.m. You can tell they're a neighborhood staple because I've been in here a few times where the owners are chatting with families with kids. Excellent service no matter what time of the morning you come in. I used to come here early on weekends if I woke up too early to get a croissant breakfast sandwich (which they would warm up) and a few donuts. I almost don't want to tell y'all this, but this is the best apple fritter in Austin. It's crunch, craggy, sweet, and large. I once took a box of assorted donuts and an apple fritter down to family in SA and was tasked with returning with more fritters next time. Apple fritters are so good they taste amazing after an hour's drive. Come on! Next time you're in the area before 1 p.m., stop in to treat yourself and support a local business. Sidenote: I believe they have a card minimum, but I always come in here spending over $10 (and still try to pay with cash) anyway.

I absolutely love this place. First, the employees that work here are so kindhearted. Secondly, the donuts are always fresh. So soft, and well made. You can taste that they are made with LOVE. Third, the store gives classic donut shop in a small town. It's simple, but it's good that way. 5 stars across the board from me! It's my fave part of the week when I get to stop by.

Combo Donuts is truly a hidden gem of South Lamar! This place has the best kolaches, and the most incredible donuts, in all of Austin. The dough they use for everything here is out of this world and makes all their products so fluffy and delicious. Margaret and her family are also the kindest, friendliest people- I'm happy to support such a great local business. Combo Donuts really can't be beat! A few of my favorite items: Sausage and cheese kolache Boudain kolache Maple donuts Croissant bacon sandwhich Donut holes

Donuts so good they will turn a donut hater into a believer. The fact that I haven't written about Combo Donuts yet amazes me. The love affair I have with their glazed donut is truly the romance of the century. I will start off with the kolaches before I get into my ode to the glazed donut. The kolaches are actually spectacular. The jalapeño kolaches have whole jalapeño slices in them instead of just being in the sausage which I enjoy. I'd like to say I know a thing or two about kolaches being a born and raised texan, and these are my favorite in Austin by far. They really aren't trying to do too much, they're just a classic done EXCEPTIONALLY well. Honestly, that is Combo Donuts whole thing, classics done exceptionally well. The donuts aren't anything special or innovative. Not a maple bacon gold plated donut in sight. But, when I sit down on the patio with a cup of milk and eat my glazed combo donut it is truly me and that donut against the world. I seriously do not know what kind of sweet love they put into their donuts, but, I have been going for the past 2.5 years and have a religious experience every time. I love combo donuts. I love how you walk into combo and it's just the funniest little ambiance, truly a good ole ma and pa hole in the wall donut shop right on s lamar keeping this neighborhood alive and well. I have never been to combo and not seen the sweet lady who is always at the front. If combo ever tried to shut down I would chain myself to the building in protest.

Hole in the wall donut shop that was absolutely fantastic. The donuts are light and airy (yeasted) and the chocolate caked donuts were full of flavor and had the right amount of crunch to them. The Apple fritter was outstanding as well and who could say no to a cinnamon roll?! The woman working the counter was incredibly friendly, very quirky and very helpful. Also absolutely worth the price over some of the more extravagant and elaborate donut places around town.

Just to be clear, I AM somewhat of a subject matter expert. I have eaten all manner of fried dough creations from coast to coast, including Hawaii, and I have a lot to say on the topic. My favorite is still Cider Belly in Albany, NY, but I digress. The PB&J donut here is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I dragged it out for 3 days. Even semi-stale, and reheated in the microwave, it was still delicious. I put a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream on it which definitely helped. I also ordered a Heavenly Hash (one of my favorite ice cream flavors BTW) and a Naughty and Nice because I am all about the classics. They were both outstanding. No leftovers. I bought these donuts in lieu of birthday cake this year which may become my new tradition. Honestly, I think these are my new favorite donuts in Austin now.

When we went our choices were $9-$10 donut base desserts. I say base because the toppings cover up the donut visually. Despite that, there's no covering that scrumptious taste and texture. Wowaweea. Yes, you feel your cells expand and pants tighten and it is for sure run club pre and post, but quite worth it. These divine donuts have that cakey interior I love so much. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. With the little IG ready love seats and doughnuts made for sharing, you could walk away with extra sugar.

The audacity Story time, Today I went to the original Round Rock location, downtown Round Rock, to buy my son's birthday donuts, It's tradition. Every year on his birthday he gets a dozen half glazed and half chocolate frosted donuts. Then I get a kolache and a dozen donut holes for myself. Well when I pulled up today the line was wrapped around all the way to Mays street. So I just followed the line of cars and got in line. You'd think that a line that long would take a long time but.... Round Rock donuts has this process down to a T. It took less than 10 minutes to get through that line and get my order. And those donuts came out hot and fresh. So did my kolache. Anywho, Don't let the lines scare you away, Just jump in and know they're going to move quickly. Also, If you're planning an office event or any type of event and you want donuts and coffee or kolaches donuts and coffee, Round Rock donuts offers a great menu for large orders and also they have a cake menu for custom cake orders. If you don't want to stay in line in your car you can also park wherever you can find a spot and go to the walk-up ordering window, It's shaded and there's plenty of space to hang out while your order is being made and brought out to you. All this to say, It's a Round Rock Donut, Happy Birthday to my Son!

For years, I'd heard so much good about them; it was about time to sample their goods. Since it was a weekday and a bit later in the morning hours, the line wasn't too bad. Watching the vehicles flying through the drive-thru, I could see that these folks have it down to a science. Order after order is being handed to their customers with military precision. We got a cinnamon roll and a fritter for the road, plus 6 donuts to take back home with us. The fritter was OK, I've had better. My wife's cinnamon roll was too huge to manage. It was definitely Texas-sized. The six donuts we took home were two blueberry cake donuts, two regular raised donuts, and two filled. The filled donuts were our favorites, along with the cake and the traditional raised. We can now say we've been to the legendary Round Rock Donuts.

The donuts themselves were a bit of a letdown, though. Ours were a little stale -- now, in fairness, we did roll in later in the afternoon, so that might've played a part. Why am I going to one in Austin? Well, it's because I am a completeist and I try to go to as many Voodoo Doughnut locations as I can. Austin has two locations but Steve was only willing to tolerate going to one location so we went here. The doughnuts are going to be about the same as any other location however I did come across one that I haven't seen before. I am not sure if it was limited edition or what but I liked it. It was kind of take on a Black Forest Cake but it wasn't cherries that were on top of the doughnut and cream. It was more like blueberries. It was good and I am glad I tried it! I was really hoping to see the Ring of Fire Doughnut as it's my favorite but I didn't see it here. I got more of a powdered doughnut too as I do like their more basic doughnuts too. Steve got something that almost was like a Dubai-esque Chocolate Doughnut. It had pistachios on it and was a chocolate cake. That one was good too! Atmosphere is weird and quirky like all of their locations try to be which I can appreciate. So if you are addicted to Voodoo Doughnuts or have been wanting to try them but don't plan any PNW trips then definitely swing by the Texas locations. More and more locations are popping up all of the time!
