Tiger Tears
Tony T.

Before today I had never had Cambodian food. I asked the server for recommendation and this was one of them. It was perfect for me because I I'm trying to trim down a bit. And this has no rice with it. It was just meat and vegetables. It was delicious, and I added some of the hot chili oil to it. It was very fresh tasting, and the green peppers, which sometimes can be overwhelming, were better than I expected. The service was very friendly and she always kept me filled with water and making sure I didn't need anything. It's a very simple place, but I would love to come back and try something else.

This has been one of my favorite Cambodian restaurants in the area for years. Busy or slow, the workers always greet me with a smile. My favorites are the meekathang (chow foon), crispy yellow noodles, and spicy ground beef dishes. Years ago, they all used taste out of the world with the original chef but has since retained most of their essence. Highly recommend especially to support the local mom and pap shops!

I think my foodie expience here was okay, just not quite what I had hoped. The restaurant is very small and due to covid, you are not allowed in; all orders are placed at the shielded entrance and picked up there when ready. The papaya salad for was a little over dressed, the Prahok, fermented fish sauce, was quite strong for my taste and didn't seemed to acheive a harmonious balance with the other ingredients. Mind you, there are distinct flavor difference between Cambodian, Vietnamese, Lao and Thai papaya salads. This one just didn't hit all my personal flavor notes. On the other hand, the Pork Pad Thai was very good with a generous amount of pork and balanced flavors. Over all it was a good experience and I am sure there are other dishes prepared there that are equally as good as their Pad Thai.

I'd only had Cambodian cuisine a few times--first, a more banquet style version in Boston, and second, at a Cambodian/Taiwanese restaurant in D.C. I absolutely hated my stir-fry at the Boston restaurant, but really enjoyed the kuy teav in D.C. Thmor Da came highly recommended from a friend, and I knew I had to try it, since I love southeast Asian cuisines and since I didn't have much experience with Cambodian food. Thmor Da is tiny, with only about eight tables. The server is absolutely wonderful, but she is so busy, that you will have a wait. I sat myself since I was standing for a while and didn't see her, and that seems to be acceptable. Another reviewer mentioned having the menu items listed in both Khmer and English (currently, it's only English), as well as in both alphabets, and I do think that would be super helpful. I wanted everything on the menu, but finally decided on the spring rolls (which would be considered summer rolls by many, including myself), dry yellow noodles with chicken (dry kuy teav), and Tiger Tears. The spring rolls were just OK--I really thought I was getting the fried pork and taro ones. I probably wouldn't order them again, as they were a little bland. I loved my dry yellow noodles with chicken, which is a flavorful chicken, noodle, and aromatics combination with broth on the side. The dish was so well-seasoned that I didn't use a ton of broth, though I did add chile sauce. Tiger Tears is a cold pepper, onion, herb, and steak dish that is delicious and extremely flavorful. It looks spicy, but it actually isn't--not sure if you have to specify that, but I will next time. While there's another Cambodian restaurant on the North Shore, Thmor Da seems to be the more popular option, and it'll definitely be my option when I come home.

It's about to go down! This is honestly my favorite mom & pop restaurant. It's a true hidden gem in Revere. I've had other Cambodian places around in Lowell, Lynn etc and this place still out beats them all. Usually there's only one waiter/waitress because of how small the place is but they do a kickass up job of multi-tasking. They're always so nice and sweet. Dishes are about $7-$13 and under depending on size and portion you get but nothing should cost you more than that. Your total bill here would be the cheapest thing you ever eaten but feel like you went for a 5 course fine dining dinner! My top picks and go-to are: 1. Special chow fun with seafood and beef (meekathung) 2. Curry pickled fish with coconut milk 3. Bo luc lac 4. Dry noodle seafood and beef (new fave)

my husband had the Phnom Phen noodle soup with an egg soda, i had beef loc lac with fried rice and also egg rolls everything was deliciouse

We are well-versed in Thai food as well as Vietnamese cuisine but I haven't really tried Cambodian before. We truly enjoyed the papaya salad it was different from Thai style papaya salad or Vietnamese style papaya salad. The beef noodle soup was great as was the pineapple coconut curry soup with white rice. We can't wait to return. It's a small restaurant that is clearly family operated. Looks like a great local establishment and A great place to visit. This is an addendum to our prior review. Now we are truly in love. Every time we drive by revere we have to stop and have lunch. As many of the other reviewer's recommended you have to try the Tiger Tears. It's basically a cold beef salad but it's out of this world. The owners are super friendly.

Pricey for nasty. $6 spring roll, not so bad of a price if it's good quality. Unfortunately, not the case here. First time experiencing frozen shrimp in spring roll. Presentation was not ok.

One of our go to spots. Get me ka thung and special seafood noodle soup. I've gotten random other times off the menu and it never disappoints. I get the beef sour soup and even thought I've had better ones out there... it's still decent that I continue to always get it. When we have visitors we always do take out here and they love it!!!

Sadly there is not a large number of Cambodian restaurants in the Boston area since most of the Massachusetts population lives in the Lowell area, but luckily in Revere there is this small mom and pop restaurant along with a few grocery stores in the area. I have more than a few Cambodian friends and have been lucky enough to experience Khmer food at it's finest, from local restaurants all over Lowell to people's mother's kitchens, and plenty plenty plenty of cookout food. My friend wanted to try Khmer food for the first time and since I didn't feel like driving all the way to Lowell, this spot popped up when I searched for Cambodian food in the Boston area. When we dropped by, the restaurant has a real small, diner type feel. The menu is pretty big but the one thing that threw me off is that they use Westernized names on the menu for the most part instead of Khmer names (Cambodian style chow fun instead of mee kathung). This is confusing for me because I only know some of the dishes by their Khmer names but when I talked to the waitress and gave her the Khmer names, she obviously knew what I was talking about and was able to help me out. We got: Special Mee Kathung (Cambodian Style Chow Fun) - Stir fried flat rice noodles with beef, shrimp, squid, and chinese broccoli in a thick gravy. The noodles and beef have a little bit of char on them from being cooked at a high temperature which is the sign of a good stir fried rice noodle. The thick gravy and seafood really make the dish. Comfort food at it's finest. Chicken Cha Kreoung (Lemongrass stir-fry Chicken) - I didn't see this on the menu but when I asked the waitress she said they had it. Chicken, onions, and bell-peppers with a tangy lemongrass curry sauce. Bok Lahong (Green papaya salad) - Pungent, spicy, and sour; this is the total package. It totally blows the Western style papaya salads that you might get at your local Thai restaurant out of the water. It comes with dry shrimp, and if you like spicy food make sure to ask for it spicy, they will not hold back. This is a small gem of delicious Cambodian food in a beautiful neighborhood right by Revere Beach. Dine in, or take out and go eat by the beach. A great experience regardless.

Bite size egg rolls with taro and pork stuffing. Very light and tasty.

We walked into a warmly decorated dining room where the staff remained accommodating even during a busy Friday night when the pace naturally slowed a bit. The Hainanese chicken is the dish to build the meal around, earning the most consistent praise for good reason. The chicken came out tender and well seasoned, with a depth of flavor from the poaching process done properly. The rice that accompanied it absorbed enough of the cooking liquid to stand on its own rather than just serving as a base. The curry chicken in particular has a sauce worth working through to the last spoonful, and pairing it with white rice or the coconut rice made the whole bowl feel complete. The roti canai is the starter most people reach for first, and it is worth having alongside the mains, flaky and well made with the curry dipping sauce doing its job. The beef rendang and chow kueh teow rounded out a menu that rewards ordering widely across a table. A few dishes landed on the milder side compared to what a more assertive Malaysian kitchen might deliver, so if you want bolder heat it is worth asking when ordering. The lunch combination sets offer strong value if your schedule allows for a midday visit. For a Malaysian restaurant in Chinatown that delivers on the Hainanese chicken and roti canai, Penang is a solid and much needed option in the neighborhood.

I've been fortunate enough to have some good Malaysian food outside of the Boston area as a standard of comparison. Very spacious inside, quick and kind service with a nice ambiance. One dish that I really like here that stands out from the rest is their roti canai appetizer, which comes with a nice piece of flaky roti that you can dip in a small bowl of their chicken curry. I think this is done well and something I would go back for if I were to return. Their Hainanese chicken rice is not too bad either although recent visits the chicken has been quite bony without much meat. However, what I've been disappointed by is that the food has gotten saltier and saltier with every visit for me. I've also had their nasi lemak and char kway teow before but thought they were just ok.

Fast and cheap, but not good…read more I wish I liked this food truck better, because it is the closest one I have to work. It has a few things going for it. It is one of the only places in Kendall where you can get lunch for less than $10. Also, despite sometimes having a line, food comes out quick. Too quick, perhaps. Nothing is made fresh, which results in soggy sandwiches and reheated meat. It's food, but it's not good. If you have some standards for what you eat, I don't recommend it. If you just want cheap sustenance, then go for it.

Facebook page. Friendly people. They donate! Did I mention Delicious? When I say good food, I mean it. I love the taste of this truck. This is an amazing gooseberry's makeover. Don't get me wrong, Gooseberry's was also tasty, but it was a bit overwhelming and seemed a little shady. Momogoose feels legit! They have done asian bistro quite well. I know that they bought a whole bunch of new equipment to deliver the food as hot as possible to their customers. They also go to the length of changing their menu to suit the season. On top of their base menu, they have soups in the winter, sandwiches in the summer etc. Did I mention they have pho? It's not as good as chinatown's, but it's nice to be able to get decent pho without running across town. Now, what gets me is their charity meal initiative. I quote "Meal for Meal is a pledge to our customers that for every meal sold, Momogoose will donate a meal to charity." (http://momogoose.com/mealformeal). Are you kidding me!? Not only do they give me a meal for less than $5, but they also donate something every time someone buys a meal! Now, that's just ridiculous. I work close by there, so I have conveniently started following their facebook page as well as their website blog (www.momogoose.com). They do a good job of keeping you up to date on any new items they will have available and every so often they will have a deal that may get you a free or discounted lunch. I've e-mailed the founders of Momogoose to thank them for doing such a good job with this food truck. It has been a real pleasure having them in the neighborhood. EDIT: They now have an iPhone app that you can use to order food before you get to the truck!

I love doing my research about local places I haven't been and stumbled across Cloud and Spirits. We had a reservation at the bar for 5pm, literally right when they opened. It was quickly filled with reservations but the staff was so attentive and our food was AMAZING. We got the quickle salad, mushroom ravioli and the chili crisp Buffalo chicken. It was all AMAZING but the Buffalo chicken was one of the best things I've ever had. UNTIL, we had the milk bread. Holy. Shit. But best part? Our server / bartender, Andi. She was a friend by the end of the night. She made the best recommendations. The best drinks. And brought the best energy. At one point we almost asked for her number. Overall... A GREAT NIGHT WITH GREAT FOOD AND EVEN BETTER COMPANY. TY ANDI.

We ordered quickly after perusing the (rather short) menu, most of which was either small plates and cocktails . Our first plate was the hainan chicken arancini. I really liked the contrast in textures between the crispy exterior and the tender chicken and rice mix on the inside. Overall flavour was not bad, too, but I'm not sure that it was exactly good enough to merit the price point of $18. Next was the Xi'an street noodles, which was probably my favourite dish of the meal. The noodles were very well cooked - chewy but not too soft - and I loved the sauce, with the gentle peanut aroma on top of the various spices they used. One comment was that the chilli crisp, which was tasty, was very lacking (in amount) and as a consequence the dish was really not spicy at all. Finally we had the chilli crisp buffalo chicken. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the chicken was boneless (I was expecting something more like chicken wings), which made for very clean eating :) The buffalo sauce was nice (and perhaps a bit spicier than the aforementioned chilli crisp) and the chicken itself was very rich and juicy. Portion size was quite large too and overall I was very happy with this plate. For drinks we ordered the Jaded, which was a fun matcha-themed cocktail (even the marshmallow was matcha-flavoured) and a (spirit-free) cranberry limeade, which was surprisingly refreshing and sweet. Overall a yummy meal, but definitely very expensive. I would be interested to try some more of their cocktails, which seem very creative, but I'm not sure if I would be keen to come again primarily for the food. (To be fair, though, this is often the modus operandi of these restaurants that specialise in small plates and drinks )

Empire Boston: Amazing Food, Frustrating Service & a Birthday Plot Twist!…read more While visiting my sister in Boston, she treated me to a belated birthday dinner at Empire. I'd checked the Yelp reviews beforehand and wasn't impressed, but it was too late to cancel our reservation. Little did I know, the evening would turn into a whole production -- literally! Let's start with the service because WHEW! We changed our reservation from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. and received confirmation, only to arrive and be told we were late. Despite showing proof, the hostess said she couldn't see the change and offered us seats in the bar lounge, warning we'd need to eat quickly because the tables would be removed at 10 p.m. for their late-night party. After waiting nearly 10 minutes without service, I spoke to the hostess, who suddenly found us a proper dining table. Great! Except we waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for our server. Thankfully, a barback brought us water. Small victories! Now, the food? THAT was the saving grace! My sister ordered a Lychee Martini, while I went with the Pink Lotus, which was STRONG and much appreciated after that seating debacle! For appetizers, we enjoyed the Wagyu Truffle Gyoza and Blackened Tuna with crispy sushi rice. Both were delicious! For entrées, we shared the Sriracha Buttermilk Chicken with truffled potatoes and Drunken Noodles loaded with shrimp, scallops, and calamari. We also added garlic bok choy because what's dinner without a green vegetable? Everything was absolutely wonderful! The flavors, presentation, and execution were excellent. Honestly, the food earned Empire an additional Yelp star despite the rocky start. Then came the birthday plot twist! By 10 p.m., the restaurant was transitioning into its late-night party scene. The music was getting louder, the crowd was growing, and I was ready to GO! We noticed staff singing and carrying birthday signs to other tables. When our server offered dessert, I quickly declined. After a suspiciously short bathroom trip by my sister, the birthday singing started AGAIN. I told her, "Let's pay and GO!" Except this time, the singing and flashing lights stopped RIGHT AT OUR TABLE! I turned around to see a giant birthday sign with MY NAME and an elaborate dessert platter! My sister had arranged the entire surprise in advance, which explained why canceling wasn't an option. The complimentary platter featured Triple Chocolate Cake, Fried Ice Cream Sundae, and Coconut Flaming Baked Alaska. Everything was delicious, and we took most of it home for my brother-in-law. Despite the frustrating evening, the birthday presentation was beautiful and incredibly thoughtful. Final verdict? Great food, beautiful surprise, but disappointing service. Our server was pleasant and doing his best while juggling several large groups, but the overall experience was poorly managed. Between the reservation confusion, seating issues, long waits, and pressure to finish before the late-night party, it simply wasn't the upscale experience I'd expect at these prices. Empire delivered on the food and birthday celebration, but the service and overall value fell short. Would I return? No, thanks! But shoutout to my sister for pulling off such a thoughtful surprise despite the chaos. She understood the assignment, even if Empire didn't quite deliver on theirs!
