Fast and cheap, but not good. I wish I liked this food truck better, because it is the closest one I have to work. It has a few things going for it. I really do not understand how you can not give this truck five stars! Let's review the basics. Good Food. Under $5. Good quantatity of food. Freshly made every day. Delicious. Easy website. Facebook page. Friendly people. They donate! Did I mention Delicious? When I say good food, I mean it. I love the taste of this truck. This is an amazing gooseberry's makeover. Don't get me wrong, Gooseberry's was also tasty, but it was a bit overwhelming and seemed a little shady. Momogoose feels legit! They have done asian bistro quite well. I know that they bought a whole bunch of new equipment to deliver the food as hot as possible to their customers. They also go to the length of changing their menu to suit the season. On top of their base menu, they have soups in the winter, sandwiches in the summer etc. Did I mention they have pho? It's not as good as chinatown's, but it's nice to be able to get decent pho without running across town. Now, what gets me is their charity meal initiative. I'm smacking my lips, that's how yummy lunch was today! I got here before the crowds, so I was able to get full attention of the cashier. I asked if any of her food was vegan and as it turns out, the tofu is vegan! I got it with rice noodles (rice would have been the other option, as the banh mi bread is not vegan) and the whole meal came to $6.50. The tofu came in a slightly spicy sauce, on top of the rice noodles, shredded fresh carrots and mixed lettuce. They also sprinkled some fried onions on top -- tasty! Huge disappointment! I usually keep on going past this food truck despite the long line, but there was no line & I thought I'd give it a shot. I chose the pad thai... The description on the website describes the pad thai as Pad Thai - Traditional rice noodles with fresh eggs, scallions, sprouts and carrots. It was a disgusting mass of grey chicken sitting on noodles with no egg, scallions and a few sprouts. It is such a poor excuse for pad thai that i bothered to take a pix to post. Ick! Disgusting! Holy mother of Christ, Gooseberry's got one hell of a makeover. The permanent menu is simple and to the point, focusing on the items that everyone loves, and a blackboard for daily specials. The baguettes are a great idea - the ga nuong (house lemon chicken) is the perfect filling for it. If you like the bulgogi, get the rice bowl (you'll get more meat in that one, they tend to understuff the sammy version). Also, a food truck that offers pho? I'm sold. Good amount of chicken up in that bowl, and just the right amount of duck/sriracha sauce in the lil' container that comes with it. I promise you this, their tofu pho is the best $5 you will ever spend in Kendall Square at lunch. The service is immediate, the flavor and portion size (for the price) is amazing, and their menu selection is pretty schweet. Ever since the Momo Goose truck came to Government Center I have been excited to try it for lunch a few times. It is a pretty extensive asian fusion menu that has everything from Korean BBQ chicken to Peanut Chicken. The two major pluses are the price and prep time. So cheap - about 6 bucks for a large portion of food. They are super super quick too. There is always a line and I have never waited longer than 3-5 minutes. I have only tried the Tika Masala Chicken which is delicious. I get it with brown rice and then it comes with some veggies. The chicken is marinated really well but the rice and vegetables could use a little more sauce or seasoning. Also, by 1 or 2 they are usually out of a few things - so I would say try to come on the earlier side if you want your pick of the menu! read more

The Goosebeary truck was a staple of my diet many years ago, and recently I was reunited with this truck when I moved back to the east coast. A lot has changed - the name changed, the truck is red like a fire engine instead of white. But the food is just as good! I would usually arrive at the truck around 12:30, which seems like peak business hours. The line would extend 25-30 persons long. No worries, cause the line moves FAST. The food gets served and ready for me in less than the time it takes for me to fumble around with my wallet and find the ridiculously cheap $4.50 it costs for a meal. On their menu is a variety of rice bowls, vermicelli bowls, and soups. I tried the "ga nuong" (grilled chicken), General Gau's chicken, thai peanut tofu, and orange chicken. Each meal comes inside a white styrofoam box with vegetables. All were very tasty and satisfying, both to my stomach and my wallet. In the end, I can totally understand why this is known as the food truck that shut down an MIT dining hall back in the 90's, when the truck was parked more centrally on campus and served lots of students. Momogoose is cheap, it fills you up, but it won't be anything mind blowing. The line is always super long, especially around 12:30. It moves fast though so prepare to have your order ready or else you'll get an evil stare from the regulars (just kidding, maybe.) Everything is premade and then put together once you place your order. They sell out of a lot of the popular items like the Ga Nuong during busy days, so if you want that come early. The main staples are the Ga Nuong and the Korean BBQ Chicken, but I think the ramen noodles taste better (try the BBQ Chicken or the Tofu). The daily specials are also great. My favorites are the Red Curry, Viet Yellow Curry, and the Massaman Curry. You can choose brown rice for the same price, so why not? The brown rice is actually excellent and maintains a nice texture even if it's sitting there. I'm by no means a vegetarian, but I usually lean towards the tofu. It's thickly cut (unlike Bon Me's tofu) and tastes better than the chicken which is sometimes dry. I've ventured out of my main staples (ramen or the daily special), and have regretted all of those orders (Claypot fish, Ga Nuong, General Gau's). Stick with the ramen and daily specials, and you'll be coming here 3-4 times a week like I do! A staple of my lunch routine, Momogoose is the ultimate in satisfying, well-portioned, Asian-inspired food. Go at 11:30, before the lunch crowd arrives and before all the goodies get sold out. If you can make it this early, try out the crispy roll: a standard Chinese vegetarian spring roll executed to perfection. It loses its crispiness over time so going after 12 isn't an option. The wonton soup is another great appetizer to try. The chicken-based wontons are packed full of flavor and the soup is unsalty enough to drink. As for the entrees, stick to variations of their marinated meats. Momogoose's ga nuong (lemongrass chicken) and Korean BBQ chicken are great. I never expected to describe a place where I buy food with the same words I use to describe a thrift store, but this place is hit or miss. First impression, I had their daily curry special and threw half of it away since the sauce was too bland for the overcooked rice. Would you like spices with that coconut milk? No? Ok, we'll put that over squishy rice for ya'. Then, after careful consideration, several months, and an itch to play Lunch Truck Roulette, I had their masala chicken and ate every last bite. It had a great kick. The chicken was tender and thoroughly marinated with masala. The rice was normal and not mushy. I even scarfed down the sad four pieces of lettuce they might call a side salad. I grabbed a tiny cup of peanut sauce as the dressing. Wow! Quality, couldn't believe the food came from the same place. The last couple of times, I was not as lucky, but not too unlucky. If it's not the sauce, it's the meat, and the rice may end up all gross. I found that their tofu is not very good no matter how much delicious sauce it's smothered in (tofu peanut thai) and that the peanut sauce that they have in those mini-plastic drawers can save a dish (Chicken Pad Thai). At $4-5 for a ton of food, it's cheap, but not delicious most of the time. They do sell Banh mi, but they don't get kudos since they charge more than the Chinatown sandwich places. The line, will be long. Very, very long. It will also move at a breakneck pace. I will help out the uninitiated with some simple rules to live by at Momogoose. First, almost everything that comes in a container tastes like curry chicken. Sometimes the curry is a slightly different flavor, or color. It's always consistently good, but the variety they advertise is lot like offering Red, Rouge, Deep Pink, Crimson, and Scarlet. It's all pretty much the same thing. Now, if you like one, you'll like 'em all. So, there is that. Personally, I'm a sucker for their pho and bbq chicken soup. These are staples, you can't really screw them up unless you -really- try. The bbq chicken soup usually sells out in the first 20 minutes, and is totally worth it. I don't really review places that suck, unless they are mean too, and I'm really picky about my food, so you should feel perfectly comfortable having lunch from the goose. read more

I TOTALLY regret not finding out about Momogoose until 2nd semester. I can't believe I was such a chump eating at the overpriced school cafeteria (which admittedly I still do every now and then out of convenience). Based on my totally unscientific analysis, Momogoose is winning the food truck race, at least on Carleton St. Their lines are always the longest. The good thing is with probably-Tiger-Mother-induced-efficiency, the line moves pretty quickly. My favorites are the baguettes (bahn mi), which vary a little from what you might normally expect. The bread is perfectly crusty, but they put kim chee in there, which is a little different. The other ingredients seem pretty standard: chicken/pork, cilantro, jalapenos, carrots, mayo. And at $4.50? So awesome. The chicken wonton soup and the curries are also good options. The box of curry is really a lot of food- rice, meat and veggies. I've had the other ramen-style soups, but am not really a big fan there, I think the meat is too greasy. I also really appreciate the thought that went into their "sides bar", where they use little plastic drawers for different utensils, sauces and napkins. Still very happy with the food, price, and menu. Just not as caaahhhraazy as before. It taste good and is very reasonably priced....but it just seems like it's lacking something.....maybe a little je ne sais quoi. The main Thai/Vietnamese rice/noodle dishes are VERY simple....some rice or noodles topped with your choice of chicken or tofu and 2 veggies on the side with some shredded lettuce. The sauces all seem to be variants off a handful of base sauces. The Pho and Wonton soups are good but not great. The wonton is better than the Pho in my opinion. Wonton soup can get away with being really simple. I've had a ton of Pho (even in back alleys in Vietnam) and this is just meh....the broth is really plain and simple, and Pho should be complex and delicious (IMO). I've been a 1-2x/week customer of Momogoose (the Red food truck on the MIT campus near Stata Center) for 9 years. If you're trying to eat vegan this truck is a godsend: there are at least two vegan options, like curry or Korean BBQ tofu, available every day over brown rice, white rice or noodles. For about $7.50 you can have WITHIN 30 SECONDS a very generous serving, which you need to cover with their chili sauce to make extra worthwhile. The staff in the truck are unfailingly efficient and polite in all weather conditions. Thai Peanut is the best. read more

I used to really love Momogoose... But lately their food and service have been pretty dismal. They used to give good portions (lots of protein), but have obviously decided that splicing their protein with potato is a cost saver. So instead of bulgogi beef or korean bbq chicken you mostly get bulgogi potato and korean bbq potato. I don't really want a meal of potato on rice/noodles, with a tiny sprinkling of protein. And their service has gotten worse -- now if you order "extra protein" odds are you won't get it. You might not even get brown rice if you ask for it. Sad, used to be a great lunch option. read more

I really like this truck and have been coming to it probably twice a week for the last four years (when they were called Goosebeary's). However, I can understand the reviews because I think they unfortunately have a problem with consistency. Do the dishes get left over certain days and not others? I hope not, but hard to say. The following items on the menu are consistently good (at least lately): Sun Nuong, Ga Nuong, Bangkok Garpao, Orange Chicken, Chicken Pho. The following items are sometimes good, sometimes not: Bulgogi Beef, General Gau's Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, Korean BBQ Chicken, Roast Pork. These were not very good, at least the one time I tried them: the various Thai curry specials, Masala Chicken, Chicken Pad Thai. The menu at this one at least is also way bigger than what's on the website. The menu has also had some changes over the years, mostly contracting the menu (probably a good thing). The prices are very good, although they have gone up from $4-4.50 when I first started coming four years ago to $5-5.50. Still I really like the place a lot because it's cheap, and if you know what to order, very good. I also like the nice people that work in here, and they are very efficient at getting through the long lines that form at this place from 12-1:30 every day. I guarantee this place serves more customers by a factor of 2 or 3 than any of the other trucks at MIT, including the vaunted Clover's. read more

If I had written this review at the time I wrote my Bon Me review, Momogoose would have easily gotten 4 stars. But that's when I started getting involved with Yelp and realized there were so many options in Chinatown. As a result, I realize that in terms of quality and price, Momogoose really doesn't hold a candle to them (sorry, but $3 legit banh mi versus $5 Americanized banh mi). With that being said, you can still get pretty good Asian food for pretty darn cheap for very fast at this truck. Most items are $5 on the menu. If you get the small soup for $3 though you basically get the same amount of stuff as the large just with less broth. The real question is what does the name mean? Is it like a spin on Mother Goose? Is it like Duck Duck Goose played with Mo Vaughn? Who knows. Seriously, who? Because I really am curious. read more

This is lunch for $4-5 in an area fairly low on cheap lunch options other than food trucks. Just for being cheap and edible, it gets the first three stars. Honestly, for the portion size, it's only a buck or two more than the cost of actually buying that portion of chicken in a supermarket. I'm really not quite sure why some reviewers think the portions are too small; I think they're huge. I eat them for a meal and two large snacks. This truck has also never given me food poisoning, which is more than I can say for a full half the places in the food court across the street. Some of the selections are great (thai peanut chicken) and the rest are solidly edible ('lite' chicken noodle stir fry thing, which oddly enough is the greasiest thing I ever ordered here). The food is moderately healthy- it's heavy and filling, and if you eat the whole thing it's a lot of calories, but it's simple. Rice/rice noodle, chicken, lettuce/broccoli/cabbage, sauce. The end. Not much room for anything mysterious. And, as several others have commented, they handle their super long lunch line like none other. As someone who hates to wait in line and has a short lunch break, I really appreciate that. My only real complaint is I wish there were more vegetables and less rice. They don't really seem to be amenable when you ask them for more veggies. They also only take cash, but that speeds things up. Maybe the quality isn't quite the same as what you might expect from a restaurant, but you'd be paying 2-3 times as much there. read more

While deciding to eat lunch at ABP or Panera (and pouting about the lack of good options in the Kendall Sq area), I was suddenly drawn to this bright food truck behind the T station. Wow, what's not to like? Fresh, tasty, and very inexpensive asian fare is on the menu. I got there at the tail end of lunchtime, so a lot of popular options were sold out. However, the very friendly staff suggested their version of chicken pho with rice instead of noodles (and topped with kimchi) - Yum! I hope they continue having that on the menu. I went with a friend today around 1PM (shorter line) and we experienced some awful things: 1) Food - the rice was very wet, and looked like porridge. I will upload a picture .. otherwise follow my friend on twitter bostonfoodie617, because he uploaded it 2) Customer Service - the girl slammed the change into my hand; and for the customer in front of me who ordered something they didnt have she just said "out!" ..the customer did not understand, and she said "we are out of that item." 3) We both saw the managing crew yell at the staff. It was very unprofessional. I just dont feel like these people care anymore. They know their food is cheap and it will get people to come. That said, theres other cheap food around like Clover, and the food court, where quality is similar, and they're not jerks. I would not want to work for these people. At least the prices here are a bit more reasonable than at Bon Me. Pretty much everything is $5. They have three general options: a banh mi, a rice bowl, and a noodle salad. Within those three options, you have lots of options in terms of proteins/tofu/etc. I had the lemongrass chicken "salad." I used "air quotes" there for a reason. This was not a salad. This was pretty much just 45% chicken, 45% noodles, and about 10% lettuce thrown to the side. But the chicken itself was very flavorful. And they provided a lot of it. Lots of noodles too. It was an extremely generous portion, especially for $5. I wanted some kick, so I'm glad I grabbed some sriracha and doused my meal with it before taking it back to my office. Anyway, I would come back here, but maybe I'd try the rice bowl instead (with lemongrass chicken again). I really wish the "salad" was really a "salad." I would love it if they gave less chicken and fewer noodles with a lot more veggies. read more

If one was judging this truck by only speed of service, they would get 5 stars. Inconsistency of the quality of food is what drags down their reputation. Take pad thai, for example. One day the chicken in the dish is the kind I call "chicken in snot". Overcooked and slimey. Another day you will get perfect juicy pieces on top of noodles. Same goes for many other dishes I have tried. Basically I am tired of this place being hit or miss. Folks, PLEASE get your recipes right and follow them. They have a surprisingly large menu for only being one little truck, and they have their operation down pat in true "stick and move" fashion so the line moves quickly. I like their noodle soups and vietnamese sandwiches. For the tofu dish, I don't particularly like the kind of tofu they use. For the reviewer who said that $5 is no excuse for bad food: 1) it's not bad food. McD's is bad food. 2) try finding a $5 meal anywhere else in Kendall that will fill you up 3) you said you'd rather bring your own lunch -- ok then do that.
