If had tried this place before becoming hooked on the consistently satisfying orders (from the various other branches), we would've never return as a customer to any of the bb.q Chicken locations. Have been regulars at Boylston (Downtown), Kenmore (near BU), JP, and Quincy... All appeared to met the basics requirements for the past 3+ years, until this Allston Branch came into the picture. The chicken here at Allston Branch was dried and tasteless. They knew or should've known that their overly burnt chicken was abnormal. The notion that they sold it as if nothing was wrong was just deceptive. Further, three pieces were missing. Will leave to the owner and other readers to decide the rationale for missing three pieces... I am a huge fan of fried chicken and the selling point for me is the crunchiness of the breading/coating. I ordered the 8 piece wings and they definitely delivered on crunchiness. I was very torn on which flavor to get but I ultimately went with secret sauce and I still don't know how I felt about it. The flavor was good as it was sweet with a hint of spiciness at the end but it did have a faint interesting flavor I wasn't a fan of--but I'm not sure what it was. I'd like to share an unfortunate experience I had at this restaurant today during my lunch break. Between 2:00 and 3:00 PM, I decided to try this place for the first time. I ordered two main dishes that I had been looking forward to, and added fries and ranch dressing to complete my meal. The young woman who took my order (the one in the photo) was noticeably cold and unfriendly from the start, as if my presence and request were somehow an inconvenience to her. Despite her attitude, I stayed polite and respectful. After placing my order, I sat down and waited. Once my food arrived, I walked over to the front counter and kindly asked her for some salt and ranch dressing. She told me to return to my table and that she would bring them to me. I went back, started eating, and waited. Five minutes passed, during which the restaurant was completely empty but neither the salt nor the ranch was brought to my table. Still patient, I approached the counter again and repeated my request politely. This time, her tone was clearly rude and dismissive. She told me again to sit down and insisted that she'd bring them over. I explained that my food was already getting cold and I just wanted to enjoy my meal with the items I ordered. But rather than helping, she responded with more attitude, making me feel like I was bothering her. Despite my consistent politeness, she acted as if I was a problem to be avoided. She even started mumbling things under her breath, which made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. When I asked her why she was treating me this way, she didn't respond. I asked to speak to a manager, but she claimed the manager wasn't there and that I couldn't speak to anyone. I then asked for her name, which she refused to give before walking away and completely ignoring me. At that point, I hadn't even started eating. Frustrated and still hungry, I stood up and left the restaurant. Luckily, I hadn't paid yet, despite placing a large order enough to feed two or three people, so at least I avoided paying for such a disappointing and disrespectful experience. In short, I entered this restaurant with a positive attitude and ordered more than enough food, but I was met with a level of disrespect that made me feel entirely unwelcome. It wasn't just disappointing, it was unacceptable!! I'm sharing this experience not just for myself, but because I worry about how future customers may be treated by this same employee. The chicken itself is well cooked and moist, very crispy and maintains the crispiness even after being drenched in sauce (impressive!) 3 out of 5 stars because it is on the expensive side ($16-17 for ten pieces) and because I ordered only "non-spicy" flavors (golden original, soy garlic, and galbi) but everything was overwhelmingly spicy. We just moved back to Brookline this past weekend after living in north Cambridge for the past couple of years, and couldn't wait to again order our 20 pc boneless with two flavors since it's only a five minute drive to get there and the chicken would obviously still be hot and crunchy... We opted for our old favorites including the Soy Garlic and the Honey Garlic for $30, and paired it with some frozen Sweet Potato Tots to balance out the flavors and save a bit of money in the process. We meant to call and request that the chicken be extra crunchy but forgot to do so, and much to our happiness, both types were perfect anyway! The workers all seem to be real Koreans, and they know how to make interesting dishes. I'm pretty sure bulgogi fries with cheese and tater tots wouldn't be considered authentic, but it's damn good. I can't believe they don't have Korean beer here, but they have 3L beer towers for $18-$41 so I shouldn't complain. The hot spicy wings don't have much flavor, they're mostly just spicy. The honey garlic was very tasty. I've ordered delivery from here before and the wings were still warm and crispy when I received them. I highly recommend the gangnam style wings for anybody who likes spice-- it's the perfect combination of savory, sweet, and spicy. The cheesling wings are heavily coated in a cheese powder whose taste almost reminds me of chowder... wouldn't say this is my favorite flavor but the cheese powder keeps the wings super crispy. I tried the bulgogi poutine ($13) and it's the perfect pairing with many pints of beers-- tater tots, cheese, kimchi, bulgogi, scallions, and a fried egg. I wish that they melted the cheese. It seems like they just throw cold shredded cheese on top of hot tater tots. I just wish there was more consistency with how they pour the beer towers. The towers come with a huge ice block in the middle to keep the beer cold, but that means you aren't actually getting 3L. The tower has liter markings on its side and the tower I got wasn't even filled to the 3L mark.
