Always a good sign when the service sets the tone early. For starters, we ordered the ceviche, and whew--so fresh and delicious. Absolutely did what it needed to do. We also tried the plantain bowls. While they could've benefited from a sauce or a little extra something to really bring it home, the portion size was impressive, so no complaints there. Now let's talk about the mocktail, because it quite literally blew my wig back. Delicious, refreshing, and the presentation? A full 10/10. Cameras were definitely out. The aesthetics of this place are beautiful--clean, stylish, and very much a foodie influencer's playground. If you enjoy a good ambiance with your meal, this spot delivers visually. For my main, I ordered the steak frites. The fries were crunchy, well-fried, and nicely seasoned--no notes there. The steak, however, was a bit underwhelming. Not bad by any means, just missing something I couldn't quite put my finger on. My taste buds were searching, but the spark never fully showed up. We ended the night with tres leches for my friend's birthday, and honestly, it was one of my favorite tres leches I've had. Moist, flavorful, and the perfect sweet ending. Don't come for me--I'm just speaking my truth. Overall, I'd rate the food a solid 3.5/5, but I'd definitely return to try another dish because the service, drinks, and ambiance were all strong. Came here to celebrate a few friends birthday so we had a pretty big group. We made a reservation beforehand with a $20 deposit each person so we were able to get a long table in the middle. Despite it not being busy when we arrived, the service remained slow throughout the night. I know we had a big table but half the time our waiter was nowhere to be found and we constantly had to ask the hostess. The water cups were a little small than other restaurants but refills were slow as well. There is one stall so later in the night the line for the bathroom started to get long so keep that in mind. We got a few apps, I definitely would recommend the asian style chicken wings and the calamari those were the best in my opinion especially the wings the sauce on that was delicious. Other than those two, the other tapas had smaller portions and weren't worth getting in my opinion. The main dishes weren't worth getting. They had ran out of bolognese which most people had planned on getting. The other pastas weren't good, the bread was also stale, almost tasted like they reheated it from frozen. While the restaurant was a bit more empty than I expected, the team truly made the night special. The staff brought out beautifully presented drinks and shots, making the celebration feel extra festive. They even gave us a peek into their new secondary room, which was decorated just as beautifully as the rest of the establishment. This is a new tapas restaurant that opened in the old Jeveli's location. The restaurant's decore is modern, with beautiful art and flowers on the wall. They did a great job with the renovations. My wife and I ordered several tapas, a dish from the 'memory lane' (pasta) and a dessert. And some drinks. I'll start with the issues. The first thing I noticed is that the menu doesn't include any prices - which is pretty off-putting since we don't know what the portion-sizes look like or how to budget for it. If you're opening in a working class neighborhood like East Boston, it feels tone deaf. There are fancier restaurants nearby (like MIDA) that don't do this. We asked the waitress what the prices were and she was happy to give us a ballpark estimate - which eases our nerves. I got the feeling she was asked this question a *lot*. All our cocktails were $18, by the way. The food was much cheaper. As well, I felt the ceviche was lacking acid and salt. Definitely one of the weaker ceviches I've had in recent memory. And the chicken vodka was just okay - boxed pasta comfort food. There's definitely easy ways to elevate the dishes at low cost. For the good, we thought the tortilla with the smoked chile and gambas were excellent. The calamari was good - lightly breaded and the fried banana peppers were lovely. I really enjoyed my cocktails. Despite the high prices, they were certainly meeting the higher expectations. It's worth the cost. Branded ice, thoughtful garnish, well balanced and unique. As well, we had *excellent* service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, inviting and kind. Food and drinks came out at an ideal pace. Bravo! For a more "lounge"-type bar, I was also delighted with the music choice (mostly disco-house and chill drum n bass) - and it was at a reasonable volume where I can still enjoy conversations. Overall, Rose is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their specialty cocktails. Anyway, we ordered a bunch. The calamari was one of the top dishes, but my favorite was actually the Spanish tortilla! The potato, oniony goodness was such good comfort food! Everything was good, not all amazing, but for $8-12/ plate, no complaints!! The only non-tapas option we got was the penne with vodka sauce. It was good!! Lots of onions. In a good way. Our drinks were pretty good. The menu read a bit more complex than the taste, but that's ok. Good selection overall and some interesting options. And the crème brûlée was so good!! I will say, when we got the check, it was definitely more than quoted per tapas/drink. Which is fine, but... just list your prices. You're in an old divey space in East Boston. It's not that deep. First and foremost, the aesthetics of this restaurant are beautiful. All of the staff members are engaging and work together as a team. They are friendly and explain everything to the best of their ability, or they ask for help if they don't know something themselves. The food was delicious, and I will definitely be back at some point for tapas and that last drink with the white foam and blue flower on top! However, I would like to mention that the service was slightly slow but quick. Let me break this down a bit. When we entered, we were greeted and promptly seated. Within a minute, water was already being poured for us. The waiter came over and asked if we wanted our usual orders. My best friend ordered everything at once, while I decided to order my drink and appetizer because they didn't have salmon, and I wasn't sure what I wanted on top of the limited six entree options. After approximately 10 minutes of chatting, our tapas were served. Two minutes later, my friend's entree arrived, but we still hadn't received our drinks. It's worth noting that I hadn't even ordered my entree yet. We appreciate fast service, but this was a little too fast. Overall, we had a good time! The music and atmosphere were both great. P.S. Rose offers great food in an upscale yet accessible ambiance. The spacious area offers a bar that is adjacent to the main dining room. We loved the decor with funky murals and warm lighting. We enjoyed the tapas very much. The Patatas Bravas, Empanadas and the Octopus were delicious and worth recommending. The menu has Italian selections that pay homage to the previous owners. The Farfalle Bolognese was very good. The Filet Mignon entree on the other hand missed the mark. It was overcooked for a medium request. The cocktails were colorful and well made. We sit down and no one serves for about 20 min, several people to ask if we got help and we kept telling them no we're waiting for our server and finally someone came to assist. Had dinner here with my friends this past weekend. The decor and ambiance was absolutely amazing - the kind of place you can take cute photos at. I thought my food was quite yummy. I have an allergy and the waitress was able to ask the chef and accommodate. My one friend is vegetarian though and she had some trouble finding a true meal - she asked for the shrimp scampi without shrimp and they were unable to do that for her, so dropped a star for that reason. Filet mignon The filet was served and I immediately noticed the filet was very fatty. I was told the filets purchased by the restaurants are fatty. I'm pretty sure filet mignon is not fatty at all, so the plate was unfortunately left alone. Ceviche The ceviche comes with plantain chips but I requested to replace the plantain chips with the corn chips. The ceviche was served with roasted corn over the ceviche. When the server stopped by to check in, I asked if there was a delay on the chips. **Rating:** Disappointing Experience Overall I really wanted to like this place, especially since they were awesome about seating us quickly and the server was prompt in greeting us and discussing the menu. However, the experience went downhill from there. We started with empanadas and wings. The empanadas were AMAZING--definitely recommend getting those! But the wings? They were served RAW. Yes, raw wings. We also ordered four drinks, but two of them took 35 minutes to arrive. We eventually canceled those drinks, only for them to magically appear when we were halfway through our entrées. Meanwhile, our water was never refilled, and no one checked in to see if we needed anything else during our meal. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. My bestie and I had the pineapple burger, which was absolutely amazing--juicy, flavorful, and with an awesome BBQ sauce. Her husband got the chicken pasta, which was delicious, but the chicken was chewy and rubbery, and the tostadas that came with it were so hard they were like croutons! My husband's steak was mediocre at best, and it wasn't even cooked to the medium he requested. To top it off, when it was time to sing happy birthday, they brought us the wrong dessert and never corrected it. While they were kind enough to give us a free dessert, they still made us pay for the canceled drinks. We also asked for condiments like salt and ketchup, but those were never brought to the table either. Needless to say, I can see why this place has only 3 stars. We went last night with a party of 5 WITH A RESERVATION. We got there and the hostess ignored us for over 30 before we got to tell her we had a reservation. Waited some more before another hostess walked over to tell her that "Open Table" overbooked them because they're not allowed to cap the amount of reservations. BS excuse when our reservation was made over the phone directly with them. After going back and forth for almost 45 min at that point, they sat us down. Now, on to the service and food... We ordered everything at once since they had taken so long already. One of our entrees came before our apps and other meals and when we asked why they did that, the server just walked away. I think the only good thing we had was the patatas bravas. Calamari was extremely salty. The shrimp in oil was ok, also salty. Our meatball app only came at the END of the meal with the bill, so that should tell you more about the experience. That appetizer was actually the worst thing we had all night, vile. We also ordered drinks, 2 lemon drops.. one came the other never did even though they kept coming to the table to say "2 more minutes" throughout the entire. 3 of us got the Steak with Chimichurri at different cooking points, 2 medium rare & 1 medium. ALL overcooked and fatty. They didn't even know which one was which when bringing them over. I honestly understand them being so new and overwhelmed with the social media attention they've been getting but as this point, maybe shut down for another few weeks and do a complete overhaul with the staff. Everyone was so rude and inattentive. Definitely need to reevaluate their menu because... WOW. OH And theres a $10 upcharge if you pay with card and not cash.. never seen any upscale restaurants do that so theres that. We were a party of 6 and they were able to accommodate us fairly quickly. We ordered the wings, croquettes, causa, empanadas, and patatas bravas. Everything was very tasty and very good. Everyone had their own favorite plate. The wings were finished up really fast. The drinks were very good and presented in a very creative way. When the waiter finally came by our table, in the middle of us ordering he would walk away and only get 2/6 people's orders. It seemed there weren't enough waiters but plenty of other employees bringing out food and just going around cleaning out the tables. Joan did this best to wait on us and other tables but we waited 20 minutes for our drinks at some point. The food was average, and the place is nicely decorated. I noticed a couple of big groups walk in so I assume they have bigger spaces to offer for bigger parties. To start off this place was clearly only made for the aesthetic because what they had in decor they lacked in food and customer service I went here last night to celebrate my best friends 30th birthday (a milestone I might add) and they first had barely a host at the hostess stand she was everywhere except where she needed to be then had an attitude with our party when we were there early for a 845 reservation made BY PHONE she then proceeds to tell us that there was a problem due to open table which was a lie since we had called months in advance for this reservation then after 30 minutes we were seated and had to pull another table together since they say all 5 of us on a three top then we had no service for about another 30 so we ordered everything at once and I do not drink so I ordered a ginger ale and never received it until I had to ask when the waitress came back after another 30 minutes with an attitude when asked about my drink Now on to the food if you could call it that One singular entree was brought out 10-30 minutes before our apps and everyone else's meals as well the waitress refused to bring it back for her to be able to eat with us! We got apps and they were a cardiac patients nightmare the amount of salt on the calamari and shrimp apps were so salty you would need a diuretic to get off all that salt then when entrees came out everyone's steak was cooked well done when asked for medium rare and medium and the fat was 90% of the steak then when we've just about had enough one drink never showed up and then with our bill came out the most atrocious teriyaki meatballs on top of the most vile mashed plantains I had to spit them out on my plate then if you think all that is bad then they charged us 10 dollars extra if we used a card to pay for our bill that ALREADY INCLUDES gratuity. They really should worry more about customer service and food preparation than worrying about their flower walls and mood lighting they really should have a retraining where everyone is taught properly and has the experience to keep a restaurant running smoothly read more
