No hard feelings but I just wasn't impressed with this place. We got stuck sitting right by the door which meant we were freezing especially every time someone came in. The drinks are very overpriced ($18) and I would be fine paying that if the drinks were amazing but it seems like they spend more time on the presentation than the taste. And finally the menu was completely different than what's posted online. For someone who has food restrictions, that's a little annoying. Overall, it's a nice place, great little speakeasy in an easy to get to location and even has parking. Service was great too. Such a fun time! I feel like this place was actually a speakeasy, hidden and with a password. I made a reservation for a large party and we were promptly seated. Inside is big enough to fit a couple tables and bar seating. Kitchen closes at 11pm and last call was around 10:45pm. We got there for our 10:30pm seating and ordered almost the entire menu! Everything tasted sooo delicious! I was surprised at the quality of food given it was a speakeasy bar. The drinks were also very special and we even shared the fishbowl at the end! Next Door is the perfect spot for your next date night or girls night out! Nextdoor has a classy, intimate , and sexy ambiance that makes it a fun late night spot. I love the elevated decor and that you feel like you're in a hidden cellar. The cocktail menu is very unique and playful - you can tell a lot of thought went into the drinks. My first round was the starboy which was fruity and a bit sour - the dry ice presentation was fun as well. My second was the Walter white which tasted like a fruity soda and was even served with a little blue bag of rock candy to resemble breaking bad. Started off with them changing our reservation from 7pm to 8pm by mistake. We had a party of 8 and also traveled to come here so it was 1 an inconvience 2. 3 out of 8 people ordered burgers and it took over 45-50 mins for them to receive their burgers everyone else receive their food fairly quickly so It doesn't make sense. This was so much fun, and definitely worth the visit. The atmosphere is swanky yet cozy, without being pretentious. This was an impromptu trip, and neither of us had fancy outfits which made me a little nervous, but our "business casual" attire didn't leave us sticking out too badly. I felt like the Tier 2 shellfish tower was a worthy splurge, and I love places that essentially serve snacks to share, so this was right up my alley. I really enjoyed Next Door. I thought the food and drink were great, even if service was a bit off. You enter through Pazza on Porter and advise the staff you are there for Next Door. We were a bit early and they wouldn't take us until our reservation time, which is fine. But since they wouldn't seat us early, they then didn't take us to Next Door until after our reservation. Instead, they took those who arrived later than us and with later reservations. And then we get in there and the place was not at all full. Make it make sense. Anyway, once we get to Next Door, the staff is really friendly. It's so pretty inside. Their cocktail selection is really awesome. Food selection is super curated and there were definitely a few dishes I liked. I loved my cocktails, especially La Ultimate Vez. In another make it make sense moment, I asked for no aioli on my tuna tacos, so they added roe, which doesn't come on the tacos? I had to send it back. My friend and I were so confused. Clearly, not the brightest here, hence the three stars. Though it wasn't our server's fault--she was amazing. But once they got it right, it was delicious. And so was the ceviche. I've heard this is one of the best speakeasies in Boston and I can see why! This was a very traditional speakeasy where the entrance is hidden and you have to go through the pizzeria and answer a riddle and give a passcode for the door! It was so fun and really amplified the experience of the place! Upon entering, the space is really small but elegantly designed and they have a mix of classy and fun drinks! I tried the lock and key (clear) and this blue bag one that's supposed to be breaking bad crystal meth vibes with the fun touch of the rock candy! The drinks itself were both flavors I didn't expect and not as sweet which made them just ok. The lock and key was giving aloe juice and the blue drink was more sour than expected, almost lemony. Presentation was a 5/5 though and it was a nice surprise when they gave the lock and key drink in a treasure chest teeming with dry ice! This was one of my favorite cocktails bars I've ever been to, and I'm include Manhattan bars. The drinks were so fun and the majority of drinks my table chose had some element of "show" to it. My drink came with a torch where she sprinkled a powder that lit on fire, my friend's Huff and Puff came with a bubble, and my other friend's whisky cocktail came with a mini firepit that ended up being released as smoke. The drinks were fun and tasted delicious. The table's favorite drink was Starboy that came with some edible flowers. The service was very attentive. Mixed feelings about this speakeasy -salmon tartare and tuna tacos were both very good -the bread and butter, the oysters, and the shrimp tacos were solid -whipped ricotta toast was too heavy and pesto-y -octopus carpaccio was chewy and gross The drinks themselves were also a mixed bag. The espresso martini was delicious (as are almost all espresso martinis to me) and there was a drink with a nitrogen gas (?) bubble that was very fun, but overall I was not impressed with the quality of the drinks, especially at the high price point. What a neat experience! This is the newest speakeasy in Boston and it is usually booked months in advance. I had a reservation for 6pm and it was decently busy, but also had some open tables still. It has a cool way to enter and the inside is elegant and cozy. The drinks are delicious and very pretty. One of my drinks came out in a trasure chest and was filled with liquid nitrogen. I also saw a table nearby that had a drink that was on fire. Definitely a great spot to catch up with friends or go out for a date night. The food here is moreso for small bites while chatting. I got the mini ahi tuna tacos and thought they were delicious - a little strong on the sesame oil taste but I love sesame so it was okay for me! I went to Next Door Eastie Speakeasy comedy show night in East Boston! Next Door Eastie is located right next to Pazza on Porter on 102 Porter St, Boston, MA. For cocktails we had the queen of hearts and the love language drinks. The queen of hearts drink contained cherry infused bourbon, cherry amaro, chocolate bitters and dark chocolate. The love language drink was presented in a cute heart shaped glass and had pink dragon fruit infused white rum. For an appetizer we had this charcuterie board which had three different meats: Calabrian soppressata, bresaola, duck prosciutto and three different cheeses: brie, midnight moon and manchego 7/10. We also had the steak tartare 8/10 and ahi tuna tacos 9/10. The ahi tuna tacos were definitely a star dish of the evening! These were so fresh and simply delicious! All the food was perfect for sharing while watching a comedy show with local Boston comedians. For dessert we had the Florentine tacos which had strawberries and a caramelized shell 8/10. We also had this creamy mocha mouse which they torched right at the table 8/10. I highly recommend checking this place out! I'm not sure if they have their own parking lot but they share the building with Pazza on Porter. Follow instructions from your reservation email to get in. Service from the hostesses to the servers here were top notch. It was cool and dark inside, which was great for a hot day but sometimes challenging to read the menus. On a Friday, at 5pm, the items I wanted to order most for the charcuterie board were already out. The duck prosciutto was delicious, and would've preferred 3 servings of that instead of two other meats. The chips were overly salted but did not compensate for a rather plain tartare. I had the pleasure of visiting Next Door on opening night. I had to check into the restaurant because they didn't even have a Yelp account yet! Anyway - I was fortunate to reserve a seat at the bar day-of. They wouldn't let me get bar seats or a table for 2, but I could have reserved 2 individual bar seats at the same time... The bar seat to my right was unoccupied the whole time I was there, so it was disappointing that I couldn't bring someone to enjoy the night with me. BUT - now, I feel like I can game the system with two separate bar reservations?? Anywho - I'm only disappointed because this place was BOMB and I had to do it alone. Ha I walked into the restaurant on a rainy Thursday night. I told them I had a bar reservation and the host called to someone at the bar over a tablet/earpiece to let them know he was bringing me in. We went outside through the covered patio section and to a door hidden in the wall. Oooo! The host told me to knock on the inner door once the outer door was closed. I did so, and the window slot immediately opened. I was asked for the password of the day (which I happened to look up in advance on their website) and was let in. I'm sure they would have let me in without it, but it's part of the fun. BTW: the question on the website was "Which group was Beyonce in?', so when I was asked for the password, I promptly replied "Destiny's Child". Love it! The hostess in the bar was dressed beautifully and she was really friendly as she led me to a bar seat. There were menus at the seat and I was greeted by the bartenders. Having read about Next Door for the last few months, I had an idea of what I wanted to try. This is what I ended up getting: Drinks: Citrus & Smoke: Four Roses Bourbon, Yellow Chartreuse, Combier Liqueur D'Orange, Lemon Juice, Citrus Smoke Bubble (so fun) ($16) Take Your Time: Michter's Rye Whiskey, Toasted Sesame Maple Syrup, Black Walnut Bitters, Applewood Smoke ($17) After Hours Espresso Martini: Tito's, St. George Coffee Liqueur, Borghetti Espresso Liqueur, Espresso, Vanilla Cinnamon Espresso Whipped Cream ($16) The 3 drinks I went with were all amazing. Citrus & Smoke was fun with the smoke bubble, but also citrusy and light. The Take Your Time was more spirit forward and a nice take on an old fashioned - it also had an entertainment element with the smoked wood. The After Hours Espresso Martini was a great end to the night as it was desserty, but still strong enough to make me feel like I got my $$ worth. Food: Tuna Tartare (Yellowfin tuna, mango, avocado; $24) 24 month Parmesan ($4 single plate from Charcuterie menu) Prosciutto Di Parma ($4 single plate from Charcuterie menu) The tuna tartare was very fresh. The sauce on the plate was a nice complement with a bit of spice. It was a good portion and I would order it again. While they do a charcuterie board with 3 meats and 3 cheeses, I knew I couldn't eat all of that alone. I was very pleased when they let me order the individual side plates of parmesan and prosciutto. The bartended recommended that I go with the Smoked Prosciutto over the regular since I was drinking the smoky Take Your Time cocktail, but I didn't listen. I should have. Next time, friend! I will say that I also ordered the Blossom & Bubbles cocktail ($16) and didn't like it. It seemed too thick for a French 75 riff and that turned me off (even though the blue color was amazing). The bartender was totally cool and took it back, which is when I got the After Hours Espresso Martini. No regrets! I was there for about 2 hours and the place filled up during that time - especially the tables. It's a smaller speakeasy, so it makes sense that they try to stick to table limits. I was lucky that the bar wasn't super crowded, so no one rushed me out. They do have a dress code, so take the chance to get a little fancy. It was nice seeing guys come in with nice jackets and ladies with pretty tops, dresses and nice jewelry. I was only "business-style" dressed up because of the rain and I was by myself. Ha. Next time, I'll be a bit more stylish. I love speakeasies and cocktails and nice bars. This had all of the above, plus friendly service, a cool entrance, etc. The hostess walked me out of the exit which she mentioned was "part of the experience". It really was - it brought me out to the street to a faux entrance I didn't even realize was there! I already know I'm going back next week when one of my fellow cocktail-loving friends visits Boston. Next Door is a welcome & fun addition to the fancy cocktail scene in Boston. Make no mistake - this place is a bit pricey, is the kind of place you need a reservation to go to, and involves the rigmarole of using a password / accessing a secret door / knocking a certain number of times to get in that can turn some people off the swanky cocktail scene, BUT... They pair that with just an incredibly fun atmosphere, amazing and above and beyond service, and drinks that are TRULY some of the best I've ever had, and the whole experience is just really special. A heads up: the reservation system still needs some work, and plan to call them if you want more than 1 person in your party. The system only allows you to book a table for 1 person, so my friend and I made individual reservations at the same time and then she called during business hours to make sure they combined our reservation and we could sit at the same table. That said, keep in mind this space is small and it really is ideal for parties of 1-2, maybe 3 max if you sat at the bar. To get in, arrive at Pazza on Porter and check in with the host. Ours immediately guided us through their back entrance, where there is a hidden door that will take you to the speakeasy. After the hidden door, there's a little waiting room where you give the password for the evening (which is a riddle given in the online reservation) and you wait to be let in. I've been to so many speakeasy-style bars across the country with a password/hidden door situation and the one at Next Door is just so fun. They fully lean into a bit of the silliness and it helps set the tone. The hostess inside immediately let us in and seated us, with a waitress informing us patrons have a 90 minute limit because they want to be able to accommodate people cycling in and out throughout the night. I love that they are up front about this and love that they do this, rather than stuffing the small space with people (given these pandemic times). My friend and I tried A LOT of cocktails on the menu. From the presentation standpoint, they just get an A+ for fun. The Lock & Key comes out from a smoky locked box, the Citrus & Smoke has a bubble-like appearance that pops when it gets to your table, the Take Your Time comes with a fire-torch situation, and the Good Idea comes in a glass shaped like a light bulb that flashes different colors. Taste-wise, the Citrus and Smoke and the Take Your Time (smoky old fashioned) were two of the best drinks I've ever had -- perfectly balanced, smooth, unique, and drinks I'll be thinking about for a long time after this visit. Drinks are pricer here ($14-17 range), but I was impressed with their spirit use. You are definitely getting your money's worth in their use of quality spirits, and I loved the Bozal mezcal tiki drink I ended my night on. For food: this place advertises itself as a raw bar, but the standout here was the charcuterie plate with some cheese favorites (midnight moon, aged parm, and the absolute LICK-THE-PLATE delectable truffle burrata), a selection of prosciuttos, & apricot jam. We also enjoyed the tuna poke (poke to wonton ratio was a bit off, though, prepare to order more wonton) and an EXCELLENT selection of oysters (the PEI were perfection.) All that said, our server, Bridget, was the absolute highlight of our experience and helped make it a fun & low key evening exploring their menu. She let us know when we were winding down our 90 minute time period, but connected us to free tasty shots from the bar at Pazza on Porter before we left. Went here opening weekend. You check-in at Pazza on Porter and are lead to a secret door - which requires a code to open (check your reservation). The place is something you'd never expect in East Boston. It definitely feels like it belongs in a chic downtown area rather than a residential neighborhood. It's got a large spirits list and a spectacular bar program. Every cocktail we had was well-balanced - and there's a lot of attention to detail. And there's a lot of details. Even the ice cubes were branded. Definitely a big 'wow' factor when it comes to presentation. For the raw bar - we had charcuterie, octopus ceviche, caviar blini and steak tartare. The cost:value ratio for these items were pretty ideal - particularly the charcuterie. All were delicious. The items come out pretty fast since there's nothing really to 'cook'. The service was warm and friendly - but I will mention that drinks may take a while to prepare. It's expected since they're pretty complex. I'll note that I'm a local. My neutral takeaway is that there's nothing on the menu that's lowbrow. Which means that it's hard to justify patroning frequently - it'll be reserved as a 'special night' kinda place. So if they decide to be open during the week (as opposed to Thursday-Saturday), it might be nice to be able to order from Pazza's kitchen on a weekday or something. Overall, 10/10 experience. This is what you would expect a speakeasy to be- with a secret entrance through Pazza and a password required (check your email before you go) there is a very prohibition era feel to the place. The server, hostess, and bartenders were all extremely friendly and able to answer any questions we had about the drinks and the menu in general. Our party sampled 6 different drinks, oysters, and the ricotta toast and were overall very happy with our selections. The menu does a great job describing the taste and glassware and for Boston, we believe these cocktails were properly priced for the quality and appearance. The oysters and ricotta toast were okay- I would go back for the drinks but not necessarily for the food. A note on parking- street parking is a must and due to where this is located in east Boston, parking is limited and hard to find. Great speakeasy located in Pazza. When you arrive, check in with the Pazza host. Someone will take you out the back of the restaurant to a secret door. Our host told us to "jump on the count of 3," and when we jumped, the secret door opened. Once you walk in, you knock on another door, give them the password, and are welcomed into Next Door. We ordered a few bites (tuna tacos, caviar, oysters, ceviche) and everything was tasty, albeit a bit expensive. The oysters were disappointing for $4 each, as they were relatively tasteless and not garnished particularly nicely. We also ordered 2 drinks, and both were good but nothing particularly special. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the space is decorated in a modern, fancy ambiance. I will say this place is great for aesthetics. They add a bit of flare to everything - for example, the oysters come with dry ice, so the platter has fog rolling off of it. A woman at the table next to us ordered a single oyster, and hers came perched atop a delicate teapot decorated with greenery and dry ice again. They have drinks on the menu in creative glassware and drinks that are very showy (ex: old-fashioned with a wood smoker that they light tableside, a drink that flames due to cinnamon, etc.). Outstanding speakeasy with authentic, unique drinks that each have their own characteristic. Some of the best cocktails I've had in Boston. Farmers market (5/5) - One of my top 5 favorite cocktails period. Fruity but not too sweet and slightly herbal. You get what you pay for with this one. Purple rain (4/5) - In my opinion the most beautiful of all the drinks I had. Flavor was great, could taste the elderflower, lemon, and gin base. Espresso martini (5/5) - One of the best espresso martinis I've had. Top of the drink was very luxurious like I was drinking a dessert. Street cart (1/5) - This was a rare miss, though this may just be my personal taste. The description of "bacon fat washed four roses bourbon" made me think it would be smoky, like bacon, but instead the bacon fat infusion tasted too "porky" and gamey if that makes any sense. AMBIENCE: (5/5) - Quiet and cozy, the setting is intimate and makes you want to whisper when talking to your friend. However, unlike most speakeasies in Boston the tables are well spaced out so there is plenty of room without it feeling stuffy. Love the flush blue gilded in gold that furnish the place. Got seated right away and the waitress introduced themselves right when we sat down. - They were able to answer any and all of our questions in regards to the cocktails & food on the menu. Shows that they were really trained to know the menu well. - They had a strict 90 min rule per table, which we surpassed without realizing it since my friend and I were busy catching up after a long time of not seeing each other. However, the waitress & hostess were nothing but polite in their reminders of our time. And when 90 was up with most of our 2nd round still unfinished on the table, they were so kind & gracious to offer us a table in the restaurant next door with a special key that would give us a free drink from the bar over there. Such a great surprise, amazing service that just goes above and beyond the expected to ensure we are taken care of even when we're out the door FOOD/DRINKS: (5/5) - Lock & Key (5/5) = What a classic & original cocktail. This has all the stuff that would make a signature cocktail that patrons will recognize and come back for again and again. First off, presentation by itself is more than enough. How freaking cool is it to grab the drink from a smoking treasure chest?! Then for it to taste just as good as it looked is another feat in itself. The pineapple came through so elegantly & the coconut cream syrup & whole milk just gave it a creaminess that was an unexpected surprise. It went down so smooth and it's a drink we were still buzzing about even after we left the venue - Purple Rain (5/5) = Gorgeous which is as expected in a drink with Butterfly Pea Flower. A bit more citrusy than I expected so it tasted like there's a tinge of lemonade in there from the lemon, not that I'm complaining. The elderflower brings the pallet back with a bit of sweetness without being artificial - Love Language (4/5) = A bit more sweet than I had expected. I could really taste the dragon fruit come through in the rum, which is amazing. Cute little heart shaped glass that it comes in - so wish that I could keep it! - Salmon Crudo (4.5/5) = I liked the use of the plantain chips as a vehicle for the salmon but felt the ratio of plantain to fish just slightly off balanced. However, the salmon was fresh along with the salmon roe that burst into my mouth with only the sweetness of the sea and no fishiness. The violet flowers & microgreens were really the highlight and paired so well with the salmon OVERVIEW: (5/5) - New favorite speakeasy place for me in Boston just popped up! I've been to all the speakeasies and this one really does put on a show with its bells & whistles which makes the drinks well worth the $$$, not to mention the fact that the drinks are actually really good! This is THE best Speakeasy Bar I've ever been to! I've been in some places in NY, but this is my #1 is 100% so far. Everything was awesome: 1. Hostess was super welcome and let us in without reservation. It was put fault, but HE really saved our night. In the future, we always will make reservations! 2. The entrance - we had to jump on the specific places to open the secret door and then tell the password. It was cool. I felt like we were in a secret room. 3. Interior: super cool! Like, SUPER cool!
