Steak Quesabirria, plus the sauce & consomé were delicious!
Jeanette C.

Lolita is a dimly-lit hot spot with super fast, personable bartenders. For most bar & grills, I expect one aspect to fall flatter than the other - but here both the drinks and food featured on the menu were awesome! Their bouncer checked my ID, wished me a happy belated birthday and said I could either be seated outside or find an open seat by the bar. I opted for the second option. I came in and told the bartenders I was already buzzing and trying to enjoy my last night in Boston. From their recommendation, I ordered the steak quesabirria - top knotch recommendation because as someone visiting from California, I really enjoyed this plate. I also had two rounds of the Broken Heart margarita, and got some calamari to go. Vibes are immaculate here, music choice for the nightly setting was on point. Customer service was superb. And for a restaurant/bar as crowded as it was, the restroom was so clean.

Lolita definitely lives up to its name: sultry lighting, chandeliers, and dark seductive corners everywhere you look. They started us off with a complimentary palate cleanser, a mango sorbet with tequila, which was such a fun way to kick things off. We got the elote grilled street corn because, well, you have to, and it did not disappoint. So yummy. I had the mahi mahi tacos, which came with a generous portion of protein. Fresh, flavorful, and filling without being heavy. To close it out they surprised us with free cotton candy, which was the perfect playful ending to a meal that felt like a whole experience. The little complimentary touches at the beginning and end made it feel special. Will be back.

This was my first time at this location. We have been to the one in Seaport a few times and liked it a lot. We walked it for Saturday brunch and it was not too busy. The inside is gorgeous, but I do like the Seaport one better because it is by the water. We started with guac and chips, which were great. I had the mahi mahi tacos which were fresh and delicious. I wish it came with more than 2. My friend had the enormous brunch burrito which she loved. I had some of the potatoes the came with and they were good. I tried the heartbreaker drink which was lovely. Our server whose name I forget was attentive. Highly recommend this place!

Great for a unique, lively dinner (& drinks) with friends! Service was extremely quick and professional, and the food was amazing. The habanero chicken rancho quesadilla was absolutely wonderful - definitely recommend. Additionally, the cotton candy at the end of the meal was unexpected and very addictive. Only downside was that the low lighting and loud music made conversation a bit difficult, but still a solid experience overall. Also, slightly pricey (especially with cocktails), but worth it. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return.

Lolita Back Bay was an amazing last minute find after walking through Newbury street. The family and I got hungry and yelp did its thing and found this spot for us. Took a few looks through the menu and pictures of the food and this was the spot. The staff are incredibly friendly, we had a server who was from Honduras and shot out to him for being super friendly to us. He recommended us this big brunch meal that came with everything to share and we also had some fried yuca tacos. Everything was incredibly savory and a very fulfilling meal. La lenador came with carnitas, eggs, cheese quesadillas and churro. It was enough to share with 3 people along with an order of tacos that I did not get a picture of sadly. But every thing we ate was amazing. I also had the Paloma cocktail and it was a great drink to complements the meal and the vibe of the restaurant. Would love to come back here again someday if I ever visit Boston!

Second time at this gem. Felt like something different for a beverage. Our bartender Javier hooked me up with a fantastic Tequila Old fashioned. Night live is active and staff are personable. The atmosphere will be what you make it. Enjoyed my visit Cheers

This restaurant is a 10/10. I genuinely hope to visit Boston again one day just to try more items from their menu. We walked in without reservations and they were fully booked for the night, but they do have bar seating and a couple of side tables where you can grab a quick bite from the full menu. The ambiance is a 10/10. The decor is insane in the best way. The red chandeliers are stunning, the bar setup is perfection, and the low lighting with the table centerpieces really ties everything together. Even the bathrooms were insanely beautiful which is crazy to say but it stood out. It's rare to find restrooms that are that clean and well-designed. The drinks were great. I can't remember the name of the cocktail I got, but it had red sugar on the rim and it perfectly matched the whole aesthetic of the restaurant. For food, I got the steak taco and the fish taco and both were delicious. We were just stopping by for a quick bite before heading to the movies , but I really wish we could have stayed for a full meal because everything was amazing. Hopefully we'll get the chance to come back again one day.

I was a fan of lolita. The staff were extremely nice and food came out very quickly, (almost too quickly). The quesadilla was great but I did hear mixed reviews from people. Drink was great and I would come back. I like darker, noir style places like this

Hot Queso Dip

We had dinner here on a Saturday night. It was super busy so reservations are a must. The atmosphere is amazing. It is decorated beautifully. I will say it is very dark inside, especially when you first walk in. My boyfriend and I both ordered the broken heart margarita and it was delicious. Our waiter told us it is tapas style with the food all coming out at different times. We decided to order the hot queso dip, steak quesabirria quesadilla and the rice bowl. Everything we had was delicious and had loads of flavor. Once done with our food, they brought out complimentary cotton candy. We thought that was different and a nice touch.

Calamari Frito

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. I had been curious about this place for a number of years, but it never worked out and just happened to be that we were looking for a lunch place and walked in front of it. It's very misleading because it looks like a small place based on the entrance but it's a beautiful big space inside. They also have some outside seating in the front and it's great for nice days. We mostly shared a couple of dishes including Calamari, and Tuna Duritos, they were both very tasty. Just the chips for the guacamole were great by themselves. We tried a couple of the margaritas and they tasted great and look great. The service was slow at first and getting to us, but once we ordered, everything came out quickly and everything from their own was very smooth.

It was easy to put in a Saturday lunch reservation. The decor is cool with dark colors, gothic themes and fresh roses. Server was nice. Timing was fine. The cocktails were strong and delicious. I enjoyed Bitter Passion and Abuelita's Espresso Martini. The Huevos Rancheros Tostadas were filling and tasty. Birria was a little salty. It seemed to get busier towards the evening.

Tacos and Elote

Both the Seaport and Back Bay locations have a very similar feel. The dark lighting lends itself to a bar, but it also impresses with the food. We were greeted with a complimentary tequila-based palate cleanser, which was quite strong for what it was--it doesn't pull any punches, and you can certainly taste the alcohol in it. We ordered the elote (grilled street corn), which comes with 2 large cobs for $15. It's just saucy enough and an excellent appetizer. I also ordered the blackened mahi-mahi tacos, which I wouldn't try again. The fish was pretty tough and dry, although the sauce was quite tasty. The meal finished off with the complimentary cotton candy, which is a nice sweet treat, but certainly not something that we (as a party of 2) could finish.

Mini Churros
Brian L.

Had a really fun time here for dinner. The vibe inside is very lively and a great place to have fun with a group of people. The food itself is also great, strong flavors that would pair really well with drinks, or make you want to order a drink. The baja shrimp quesadilla was something on their menu that was on the larger side, most of their items were smaller plates. The mini churros were also fantastic, the dips they came with were a nice addition, especially the strawberry hibiscus sauce.

Lolita Back Bay Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Lolita Back Bay

Are there vegetarian or vegan-friendly taco options?

Yes, Everything is customizable and they are great with making changes and adapting!

Is this place ok for children for early dinners? Meeting a friend from out of town at 5:30, we have an 8 and 10 year old.

Probably OK if the kids like a dark gothic/spooky vibe. But not exactly ideal. They do have cotton candy desserts. I would call first to make sure it's OK but likely fine. For what it's worth I have never seen a child in there.

Is there a bar to sit at?

Yes, but it gets busy!

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes plenty of GF/DF options! Just make sure to tell them in advance of your food allergies/preferences.

Do they have Lolita branded matches at the host stand?

Are they open? It says open on Google but the website doesn't list the Back Bay location. I'm so confused. (5/3/22)

Definitely not... According to another Yelper from 9 days ago, they went to the Back Bay location, only to find that the restaurant has permanently closed.

Do they still have all you can eat tacos on Mondays?

No they don't

Is there a table time limit due to COVID?

Hi! Generally all table service 2 person reservations are booked for time slots of 90 minutes and 4 person reservations for 120 minutes. Hope this helps.

Are under 21 allowed?

Yes, but like any establishment you won't be able to order alcohol or sit at the bar.

Is the garlic kale quesadilla on the menu?

Yes!

Can they accommodate larger parties?

Yes, I saw a 7-8 member party across my table. You can make reservations over the phone in advance.

There's no reservations available for Saturday night will I still be able to get a table? I don't mind waiting.

I've been there before and the wait has been two hours. Maybe come and put your name in early and then shop while you wait

Do they require reservations on a sunday?

I don't think they ever require one, but it's best to make one otherwise you're going to likely wait. I didn't have one for my bday on a sat night in the summer but only had to wait like an hour

Expensive types. Any suggestion in terms of drinks and food (affordable ones)?

Big fan of the tacos (about $12 for 2 tacos) - the al pastor was great. If you're looking for affordable drinks, the sangrias and margaritas are offered in pitcher form, which are more cost effective. And Lolita also starts off tables with…

How to make reservation?

You can do so on their website or through OpenTable!

It responded right away that it would optimize for a place that appeals to cocktail nerds and is open on Mondays. I directed me to Wig Shop, and said that Wig Shop even has a cocktail named in honor of John Gertsen, Boston's much-missed (he's in SF, last I knew) founding bartender at Drink and Number Nine Park. Wig Shop did not disappoint: fabulous cocktails, an easygoing vibe (my two buddies and I were able to chat without yelling from 8pm until 11:30), comfortable banquettes (with, incidentally, backs that are high enough to be supportive but low enough that you can spread out your arms on them), and wonderful service. The service, in particular, lives up to the "cocktail nerd" aspect that the LLM highlighted: our server knew the drinks backwards and forwards, and knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the drink in Gertsen's honor. I'd recommend this place to cocktail nerds, and to anyone who wants to have a drink and chat with friends. We'll be back soon.

The Wig Shop was on the list... what a coincidence we were just going to be there. So, obviously, we made it a point to check it out. It was very last minute, so we had no reservations, but we checked opening hours and were there almost on the dot. Thankfully we were able to get in. The way they are setup is that if you are a party of 2, they sit you with another "couple" to maximize space. This is fun, it makes you have conversations with strangers that for the time you are there become "friends". Hopefully you have the same good experience we did and not have anti-social people in front of you. The drinks are fun and strong, and they have a full bar for those who want something more classic or have a drink of choice. They also have food, which looked really good.

In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate. The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend.
