This place has a handwritten note on the mirror that says, "Voted Best Restaurant in Southie for 4 Years in a Row." After dining here, my thought was that it's probably because that's as long as they've been open. I have no idea if that's actually true, but that's just how good their food and dining experience is. The very first thing we noticed when we sat at the bar was how refreshing the water was. I immediately got excited for my meal because, as I told my coworker, "Any place that pays this much attention to the small details and cares about serving the highest-quality tasting table water, their meals have gotta be GOOWD!" And the award-winning tofu burger was just that. But equally impressive were the fries. And then the ginger butter and BBQ dipping sauces absolutely stole the show. They were so good that I found myself scrounging around, looking for anything left on the table to dunk into those uniquely layered flavor-packed sauces just so I'd have an excuse to consume a little more. Then came the literal cherry on top...or perhaps the cookie on top. The chef/owner made a surprise appearance at our table and blessed us with some unbelievably delicious cookies to cap off the night. What a joyous way to end an already fantastic meal. Moonshine 152 is the kind of place that gets the little things right, and those little things add up to a memorable dining experience. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Boston. read more

I don't know what the hype is about. Place was nice inside; Chef has some artwork she made which is cool. Food was mediocre at best. The Jalapeno crab rangoon's were decent. I thought the filling was too runny and they definitely had some heat. Fried chicken was definitely the only good thing. Problem is it's cooked in bad oil. The dirty rice was horrible. Tasted old and gave me wicked bad heartburn. Corn salad was weird. I'm not sure what it was, a sauce or something, but it just didn't go. The part that really bugged me was the staff. Not sure what was up, maybe cause it was Sunday, maybe cause it was close to the end of brunch, regardless it was unacceptable. The waitress we had was bitchy and fake. She kept making sly comments that showed her true colors. She just kept pushing us to order and rushing us, even with drinks. For the record, most people go out to have a good time and chat and slow down and enjoy. In our cause we were celebrating birthdays amongst longtime friends. The place was empty. Staff were setting up for dinner. What is the big deal? We sure as hell paid enough. And my friend tipped on the takeout. Come on. Ridiculous. The waitress coming on for dinner came over to tell us she needed our table at 5:30. It was 4:10...like come on. NEVER AGAIN. Please don't be fooled by everything good you read. If you're ever in Boston, Massachusetts, and looking for amazing food, delicious drinks, and exceptional customer service, you absolutely MUST stop by Moonshine 152, located at 152 Dorchester Avenue in Southie! We had such an incredible experience from start to finish, and the food definitely delivered on flavor! I ordered the Pork Belly Bao Buns, and let me just say... that pork belly practically melted in my mouth! Every bite was bursting with flavor. I also tried their Chocolate Covered Cherries Jello Shots, and WOW! They were dangerously good--the best I've ever had! Then came dessert: the Tropical Mango Pavlova. Sadly, I didn't get a picture because I was too busy devouring it! It was THAT good. But I did manage to take a picture of this delicious, buttery cookie the chef brought out. I honestly wish I knew the name of it because I would have ordered two dozen to take back home to Texas! My husband and his coworker ordered burgers, and one of them had a fried egg on top--and it was a veggie burger! Everything was so good that there were absolutely NO leftovers and NO doggie bags. Let's just say all of our plates were practically licked clean! The chef was amazing! ‍ She actually came out to check on the guests and make sure everyone was happy with their food. That personal touch made the experience even better. The bartender was just as impressive, making sure everyone at the bar was taken care of and serving up some fantastic mixed drinks. Overall, Moonshine 152 was an AMAZING experience! My only regret is that we didn't stop here on our first night in Boston instead of our last night before heading back to Texas! If you're in the Boston/Southie area, put Moonshine 152 on your list--you won't regret it! read more

Came on a weekday early dinner night but the place starts packing as I was leaving. The staff were friendly and efficient and provided very helpful recommendations. Food were decent but didn't think it was anything special. The space is spacious and great for large groups. read more

There are some things on a menu that you don't really have a choice but to order. Jalapeño crab rangoons are one of those things. As soon as we saw them at Moonshine 152, it was an auto order, and they were exactly what you'd hope for: the perfect combination of a jalapeño popper and a crab rangoon. We started the night outside on the patio with those, a Downeast cider for me, my favorite, and a Battery Steele Golden Path Pilsner. Great weather, a view of the Pru in the distance, and crab rangoons on the table. Pretty hard to complain. For dinner, I went with Leslie Knope's Fried Chicken and Waffle. Somehow, I had never actually had chicken and waffles before, and now I understand why it's such a lethal combination. The chicken had exactly the crispiness I was craving, and throwing the sweetness of the waffle, cinnamon honey butter, and sriracha-bourbon sauce into the mix completely sold me on the whole sweet and savory thing. I now also understand why Chick-fil-A looked at chicken and waffles and essentially decided to make a sandwich out of it. My friends went with the burger and birria gringo tacos, and both gave their respective orders top marks. The best thing we ate, though, was the bananas n' cream gooey butter cake. Gooey butter cake always slaps, and Moonshine's version was top notch. Chef and owner Asia Mei even gave us a larger order, which leads to probably my favorite thing about Moonshine. Mei brought out all of our food herself and stopped to talk with us throughout the meal. That kind of thing is cool. There are plenty of places where you can get good food, but having the person behind the restaurant actually interacting with you and making you feel taken care of is the type of thing that separates a place. Everyone else working there was just as friendly and attentive, and the whole night felt easy. Sitting outside with friends, looking out toward the Pru, drinking good beer and cider and eating food that was actually fun to order is exactly what I want out of a neighborhood restaurant. Then I found out they do a burger of the month. I love a monthly burger. Give me an excuse to come back every month and see what you've come up with, and there's a pretty good chance I'm going to take you up on it. Moonshine 152 took care of us from the moment we sat down until the oversized gooey butter cake hit the table. It's absolutely worth a visit, and if they keep rolling out a new burger every month, this definitely won't be my last one. read more

Moonshine 152 has to be one of our favorite restaurants, if not our absolute favorite. The vibes are truly immaculate, and Chef Asia is amazing - so kind, thoughtful, and clearly incredibly passionate about what she does. Every dish is so creative, unique, and perfectly executed. We've left thinking about the food long after the meal, and there are dishes I genuinely can't stop thinking about! It's become the kind of place we want to go every Friday, just for the food, the atmosphere, and the feeling of being there. Somehow it always feels like the perfect night out. Moonshine 152 is such a special place, and we feel lucky to have it down the street!!!!!! These are only a few photos of the food we have gotten throughout the years. read more

This review is for delivery! We ordered the crispy basil chicken, crab rangoons, shishito peppers, artichoke salad, brownie, and butter cake. Everything was sooooo tasty. They even gave us an extra dessert as a thank you which was totally unexpected but very much appreciated. The chicken was full of flavor and they dressed the rice in the perfect amount of sauce. The crab Rangoon have a spicy jalapeño sauce and come on a bed of greens. The shishito peppers have a sauce too - couldn't tell what it was, but we enjoyed it. The artichoke salad was a surprise - lots of different flavors and textures. All three desserts were sooo yummy!!!! We will be ordering again soon! read more

Came here for brunch and was very happy with the twist on some classic breakfast favorites. I got an eggs Benedict with a hollandaise sauce that had a bit of a kick and jalapeño bacon. It was delicious. Definitely basic restaurant vibe but not in a bad way. Not to frilly just is what it is and very good. All staff were highly attentive and quick. Will definitely be coming back. read more

10 out of 10! Gladly took our last minute reservation and clearly communicated about time constraints. Every single person was welcoming and friendly. Service was timely. This restaurant is kinda between a sports bar and regular restaurant vibes. Staffs are very friendly and they love to engage in a small talks with all guests here. Much to my surprise, the chef herself also came out and serve foods to her customers. Definitely top notch customer service!!! I ordered their bloody Mary, patatas bravas, and Feb 2026 burger. Bloody Mary was delicious and refreshing with a hint of pepper. Their take on patata bravas also bold. Sauce is zesty and tangy with savory taste. Definitely a good appetizer. Feb 2026 burger is also too delicious. They mixed sambal (fresh chili sauce) into the burger sauce. Sambal is typically has bold flavor but for some reason they balanced the flavor!!! Definitely the best restaurant I visited in South Boston area. read more

Fusion in the best possible way! Moonshine 152 is near our son's apartment and we've only been twice.. but both times we were absolutely enthralled by the options, the vibe, and the FOOD! It is soooo good! The menu has so much variety that my only complaint is that I can't physically eat a fraction of the things that look good! Today's awesomeness according to the eaters: Chicken wings- outstanding, required if you like chicken! Meatballs- very tasty and tender and seductively fragrant with a touch of tang. Yum. Chicken dumplings- deliciously! (I asked for one word, there you have it Braised rabbit pasta- creamy but delicate, slightly tangy, tender and succulent! Short rib beef bimbab- creative, nice cut sticky glaze beef, lots of tasty textures Cajun Tilapia- The fish, the green tomatoes, the shrimp, and the sauce each have unique textures and flavors that made me smile down to the last desperate plate scrape! I recommend Moonshine 152 to everybody that visits Boston. It checks so many boxes that as I sit here waiting for dessert (pavlova, excited!) I wish again I could stuff in some of these other entrees! ENJOY and tell us about the other dishes! read more

this place was awesome!!! i loved the interior decor it was very fun and eclectic and so cool that the chef had 6 disabled dogs and a 22 year old chinchilla im a huge fan and love how personalized the place felt. the food was absolutely delicious - we got the bruschetta and the beet dip and truly wow yummy. i also got the mushroom tofu burger and i see why it was ranked bostons best vegetarian burger for a few years it was great. it didn't fall apart like so many veggie burgers. i need to go back this was great read more

From the moment we walked into Moonshine 152, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism that set the tone for a perfect evening. Every detail was thoughtfully executed, from the lighting and music to the attentive service and final photo as we walked out the door. Let's talk about the food because wow. The Soft Shell Crab Bao was a showstopper. Lightly fried with that ideal crunch, the pickled veggies and aioli brought balance, depth, and pure magic in every bite. Each flavor married the next well. Then came the Grilled Fish Tacos and Birria Style Short Rib Tacos both absolutely to die for. The birria tacos were juicy and deeply flavored, with the consomme adding a bold richness that lingered perfectly. The fish tacos were fresh and kinda zesty, topped with avocado and a slaw that made every bite feel like summer. The Jalapeño Crab Rangoon was PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Dirty Fried Rice with Grilled Shrimp was one of my favorite dishes of the night. Every forkful had soul. The Cajun spices, caramelized onions, and juicy shrimp packed a dynamic punch. The I elevated by adding extra scallions. Each bite reminded me of the home cooked meals I grew up with in a kitchen where flavor was never optional. We also had the Korean Fried Chicken Wings and let me just say, yummalicious. Crispy on the outside, tender inside and unforgettable. And do not even get me started on the Ricotta Bruschetta . The grilled bread was buttery and crispy, and the toppings were fresh heirloom tomatoes, basil oil, and balsamic glaze. It was one of those "close your eyes and moan" dishes that you never want to end. What took this night from amazing to extraordinary was Chef Asia Mei herself. When your meal is delivered by the very hands that crafted it, there is a connection that forms between the plate and your heart. You feel the love, the intention, the joy of a chef who truly cooks with purpose. As someone raised in a home where good food and dessert were acts of love, and where my father, a gifted baker and cook, filled our home with unforgettable flavors, this meal literally felt like heaven had loaned him back to me for one night. Chef Asia, thank you. For filling my belly and warming my soul in one visit. Your flavors live in a lane of their own, and your presence elevates the experience. Moonshine 152 is now on my frequent flyer list. It's been a very very long time since I've been to the same restaurant two days in a row. And to all my fellow Yelp Elites, get there. Bring your appetite, your appreciation for creativity, and prepare for absolute perfection from start to finish. read more

First night in Boston n we couldn't be more impressed with this restaurant! If I say every single food item that we ordered (and we ordered a lot starting from appetizers to the main meal to desserts) were absolutely delicious. The owner/chef Asia came out to serve the food herself. I was truly a pleasure to meet her. We were trying to convince her to open up something in LA lol Our server Sera was absolutely amazing Her positive energy attitude made the whole experience even better She gave us the best seat in the house so that we could watch the World Cup. She spoke so highly Of the restaurant and the owner, which shows how well things are run in the background/kitchen. No wonder the restaurant is so highly rated do not miss if you are in Boston. read more

Wow impressive. We loved everything about this place. The vibe, the art, the fun decor, the creative brunch menu. Ordered the bacon wrapped stuffing bites, Mei griddle breakfast Sammies and the Ron Swanson chipotle pulled pork scallion quesadilla. Chef Asia delivered our meals with a hello and a how's everything.... Five stars for the food that is obviously prepared with care and pride. Everything was fresh, flavorful and abundant. Our server was friendly and attentive. Cocktail menu looks fun, but it was too early in the day for us. Next time! We will definitely be back! read more

4.5 so wanted to give this 5 stars but honestly I think 4.0 is the most- wings were super crisp but soggy on bottom due to plating and needed salt. Special soup beet gazpacho was way too sweet and lacked a true beet flavor - drinks and other items were ok - crab rangoons were great. And of course having food brought out by chef is always a treat - waitress messed up order a bit but ok read more

What a great experience this was. Went for Easter brunch and the place was busy. We wanted to try this spot because of the famous burger. I was not disappointed, the burger was cooked perfectly. I should come back to eat more next time vs just for apps. The shishitos were delicious. The chef is clearly a local icon and was running dishes in the front as well as cranking out orders quickly from the kitchen. The aesthetic with her quirky art wasn't what I expected but made me want to come back for brunch. Drink menu was creative. Not the strongest drinks I've had but plenty of interesting choices. I'm a little biased by our bartender being very forgetful and not remembering what we ordered despite it being a pretty slow night. Worth a visit. read more

Came for the first time since Moonshine 152 is one of girlfriend's favorites, I can see why! Our server was friendly and attentive to our table, and small plates came out quickly! This place is surprisingly good. Their door is not obvious (looks like back door). They have indoor and outdoor seating. I got the sangria, Spicy Lamb Meatballs and Crispy Tempura Fish Tacos. Everything is good. I like the lamb meatballs the most. It actually doesn't look too appetizing when it was served, but the meat balls are very flavorful and they are not dry at all. It's the greatest surprise. The fish tacos are good and flavorful too. The fish is very tender, even though I don't feel the crispy part. Maybe the sauce made it not crispy anymore. But still tastes good in general. We will come back and try other food next time. read more

I love that moonshine is critically acclaimed, yet is casual and extremely unpretentious. I would return for the vibes alone. Chef Asia's art is hung around everywhere and staff is very friendly, which makes for a homey and cozy feel. Chef Asia herself brought out our food, which is top tier hospitality. The food is amazing too. Crab Benedict is a solid choice- decent amount of crab, eggs aren't poached but aren't greasy, and the English muffin is very fluffy. I'm glad I got the hollandaise on the side as they brought out a sizeable amount, and it's quite spicy. It also didn't strike me as a traditional hollandaise. The chicken and waffles are superb. 4 entire drumsticks (bone in), a small Belgian waffle, deliciously coated in syrup... and yet not too heavy. Will be returning for sure!! read more

The food was SO good, but what was really amazing was Chef Asia coming by our table herself to hand us the food and just make sure that we were having a good time. Everything we ate made me so impressed at how one can elevate foods such as french toast and tater tots but this place did. Variety? Unique takes on food? A chill Vibe? This is definitely the place you need to visit then. Moonshine 152 provides an easy-going vibe with the bar right there with games going on to stalls where you can have a dinner. I give the place an EASY 5/5 because those wings are mind-blowing. Asia Mei is easily one of the best Chefs in Boston. I've eaten here several times, but I can't believe that I haven't written a review before now! My husband and I had brunch at moonshine 152 last weekend and told friends about it. Next thing you know, the four of us were in there around noon time today having brunch again. We shared three starters, alongside sharing all four entrées and everything, I mean everything was to die for! Ms Asia herself delivered some of our plates and she is just as delightful as she is talented. Needless to say, dinner is amazing here as well. The vibe in the restaurant is so easy and you can tell that the staff get along very well together. What I can't believe is how this place wasn't fully packed today or last weekend even. I had a great time at Moonshine 152 for dinner recently. We came on a weeknight evening as a party of two for dinner and we were sat at a booth by the windows. The ambiance was nice, it felt casual and inviting with a general buzz of chatter from all of the other patrons. We started with a couple of cocktails - the 'shine summer sling ($14) and the fly me to the moon ($16) as well as the spicy lamb meatballs ($18). The drinks were okay, the fly me to the moon was better than the 'shine summer sling but they didn't wow us. The spicy lamb meatballs were really tasty - just spicy enough that didn't overkill the palate with a reminiscent taste of kofta and Swedish meatball combined. This made us more excited for the remainder of our meal. We ordered the tempura softshell crab bao buns ($26-$29, it's MP) and Ron Swanson's chipotle pulled pork scallion pancake quesadilla ($28) for our entrees then later on ordered the 'shine famous bacon wrapped stuffing bites ($17) and "Dubai" Belgian waffle ice cream sundae ($16) in addition to 2 pina colada Jell-O shots ($7 each). The scallion pancake quesadilla was really good! The long name for the dish threw me off but I was pleasantly surprised by the dish and would definitely get it again. It does have tomatoes in it which I found to be an interesting addition and could do without it next time. The bao buns were really decent sized and tasty too! A solid menu addition for the summer and would probably get again. The stuffing bites were okay - they tasted exactly as described but they weren't a huge hit for us. The best part was dessert - the Belgian waffle tasted like a fried dough churro situation which was divine. The ice cream was good and so were the toppings - this was such a hit for us. We would probably skip on the Jell-O shots, they seemed fun and whimsical but also silly. Service was great - very attentive by the server and the owner/head chef brought out each dish which felt personable and inviting. The server was also helpful in menu recommendations too, which we appreciated a lot. Overall, we'll be coming back! read more

This is now one of my new favorite restaurants in Boston. The menu is filled with so many mouthwatering and creative comfort food options, our table generously shared everything with one another so we could get a little taste of it all. Chef Asia Mei (who served us personally at times!) understands flavor combos in a way I don't see in even a lot of fancy restaurants. When our party was trying to determine which dish had been our favorite, I realized absolutely everything I had, from cocktails to appetizers to mains to desserts, was so amazing I couldn't choose. The bartender and wait staff were super friendly, and even brought our group a bonus dessert for no reason! It was a night of indulgent eating--and I have 0 regrets.
