This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for a decade. It's convenient, fast, and immaculate. The sushi is made right in front of you and has always been fresh and delicious. I've gone there on date night and I've had office parties there and it's always been awesome. As good as the food is, the staff is better. Especially Tiffany who does everything here including cooking, taking orders, bartending, and making everyone feel like their family. The first time I went there she waited on our table. 6 months later I came back for the second time. She it only remembered my name, she also remembered every dish we'd ordered the first time. Based on the reviews this place seems to be hit or miss. Our regular Chinese restaurant is closed on Mondays so we decided to give Sei Bar a try ( we love the Everett location but it's too far for takeout). Portions are smaller than other places, but the food we got more than made up for it. Everything was fresh and tasted good. The pork fried rice really highlighted the pride and effort they take in their food, it was loaded with additional veggies. Chicken wings were a good size, well seasoned and well fried. The boneless ribs were tasty but too fatty for me, definitely need to trim off more of the fat but others may like that. Overall a decent option with good food and fast service. 3 stars instead of 4 because it's on the pricier side for takeout. read more

A pretty unique menu with some dishes I haven't seen anywhere else among the many dozens of Chinese and Japanese restaurants that I've attended throughout my adult life. The Beef Kushiyaki and basil fried rice for example are fantastic, and they have a really good selection of sushi as well. The service is excellent, with one waitress in particular who my girlfriend and I loved to converse with during our visits there when I lived in Medford a number of years ago now. The atmosphere is pretty classy but also relaxed, and the layout is interesting with the bar and wall in the center; the main dining areas are kind of split by the bar. read more

Picked up from this place for dinner and it was alright. We also drive by this place every week but never really noticed it until today and decided to give it a try since we're in a sushi mood. We got sushi duh and they're ok, no complaints except for the spicy scallop makis (they tasted a lil odd). We gave this place a 4/5 because 1. their spicy chicken wings aint spicy, it's saucey and sweet and we didn't know how to feel. 2. the spicy avocado salad which I was excited for, had more cucumbers than anything else (I was craving imitation crabmeat:( ) and yea it's a place that doesn't really focus on serving sushi & just Japanese cuisine. I understand inflation, but businesses are not the only ones hurting. People also work hard for their money and so the expectations are still high. If you go up on prices but still deliver great quality food, I'm okay with paying the extra bucks. But come on! I am disappointed at the food quality that Seibar is providing. Their prices are up and their Ingredients are less. A huge disappointment. I spend about $25.00 on a Medford roll and gyoza. The roll was skimpy and full of tempura crumbs just a few strings of crab meat. The gyoza was the same quality as a super market. Over the years we have ordered from Sei Bar Medford less and less frequently. In general the sushi and the cold sesame noodles were the only consistently good food. Last Sunday night, in an effort to support local business, we ordered some sushi, some cold sesame noodles, and some chicken broccoli for the kiddo. The food was less than mediocre. Sushi wasn't fresh and was seemingly hacked apart w a butter knife. But the kicker came when we found a cockroach in my daughters bowl of chicken broccoli. A COCKROACH. I called and they said they would refund, but then they didn't and I had to have GrubHub get in touch with them to process the refund. Decided to give this local place a try during covid since it had a 4.8/5 on doordash. Have tried numerous sushi spots in the area and every single one is better than this. Stopped in for a quick lunch yesterday. I ordered Miso soup. Soup arrives cold. I say can you heat this up for me its cold. The waitress looked at me like I was insane. She takes the soup back to the kitchen and 5 minutes later returns with the soup and its the same temp. I taste it and i said its still cold but eat it anyway. Well needless to say I didn't order anything else. Fast forward 30 minutes now I'm on the toilet with massive diarrhea..I can't prove it, but I'm certain the put something in my soup to cause this. Aside from that, got veggie rolls- avocado, inari, and sweet potato. Wouldn't recommend the sweet potato- too heavy. My friend got a "salmon sandwich" that looked good. It was a sandwich of slightly toasted sushi rice, with raw salmon inside. He dipped it in a soy sauce wasabi mixture. May have to try that next time. read more

Great sushi place for lunch. Stopped by with my coworkers yesterday, and was pleased to see the extensive (and cheap!) lunch menu. Lots of vegetarian options, and options for those who do not like sushi as well. I ordered the veggie maki lunch, and substituted a salad for the soup that it comes with. Was pleasantly surprised to find that this is the best sushi that I've had so far in Boston. It's great quality fish, cut well and served well. On top of the amazing sushi, they also have an extensive Chinese/Thai menu, so if you go with people who aren't particularly into sushi, there are always options for them. I've gotten to know the staff, and love it there. I go at least once a week and am always anxious to bring friends there. Sei Bar was really good. We wanted to try something different​ compared to Yoki or any of those big chain restaurants. I was amazed of the service in particular. The bartender was also the waitress and our food came out fast, attention was great, and she continued to check up on us when the bar was full and at least 2 other tables were​ filled. My wife and I go here all the time and we love it!! We have been going for years because it is within walking distance of our home and because it is good! I always get the General Gaos Tuna which is quite filling so I am starting to broaden my horizons and get other entrees. My wife always gets the chicken cashew pad Thai which is also pretty good. I have been Sei bar twice and both experiences were terrible. We wanted to celebrate my friends 22nd birthday and have heard they had good scorpion bowls. We showed up and a waitress looked to her coworker and maliciously said: "those girls think they are so pretty don't they". There were plenty of open tables but they refused to seat us after making us stand for half an hour without any Information. Finally they said If we don't all have massachusetts IDs, we can't eat there, which is the most unlikely and impracticable request ever. We left and ate at Yoshis at which we received the best service. I decided to try sei bar again. We were looking to have a nice dinner out and it was ruined by the unfriendly staff. The same waitress who insulted our group served us. (Description: Young, dark straight hair, no smile). She was evil and treated us like we were stupid and not worth her time. We were racing to leave by the end of our night. My friends food came out not as advertised and the waitress was completely unreceptive to switching it to something she would actually want to eat. Her response was "uhm what?". My friend then had to reason with her twice to not charge her for the food before finally getting a snarky "okay". (Also she would not serve us without passports and immediately made us feel very uncomfortable). Direct quote "screw the costumers". I am sure there are many great waitresses at sei bar, but this particularly appalling waitress has made us feel judged, unwelcome, and lowers the quality of the restaurant. read more

We used to be fans of this Medford restaurant, the food was tasty and a good value. Tonight we ordered chicken pad thai, teriyaki chicken steamed gyoza and seaweed salad. The salad, as always was delicious. The steamed gyoza was surprisingly still pretty hot and tasty. The chicken pad thai had much less chicken than when we've ordered previously, was this an oversite or a new recipe standard? The teriyaki chicken - tho - was the shocker. $16.50 for a dish half full of steamed rice drizzled with teriyaki sauce, covered with wafer thin sliced of grilled chicken; 4oz or so. As we all know the SEI in SEI Bar stands for Sagene Eagre Illaqueate (Yes that is English). Roughly translated: A net in rising water ensnaring aquatic life for your feasting pleasure. This place is pretty jawsome. There are different rooms with different atmospheres for what you're looking for, and they have delivery and take out. The prices are a littttttle high I would say for the items quantity. That being said the food is delish. My date always complains when we go that the rice around the sushi is VERY thin, and doesn't even cover all of the sushi sometimes. She is a very detail oriented person. After I bedded her she had a hand written list of maneuvers I would have to improve. I digress. The drinks here are very alcoholic. The date is a lightweight but she was very happy go lucky by the bottom of her glass. Hence the bedding. I digress. The back room we were seated in was very dim lit and great for a date. The server did that thing where when she left the table she would back up bowing, like we were regal pillars of society and she but a mere mortal. I highly recommend giving this place a try. Was really craving something different than the usual pizza or Chinese food I order on a lazy Sunday and Thai food seemed like a good option. Most of the places in the area have much higher delivery minimums and the reviews looked legit so I decided to try Sei Bar. I ordered through the Yelp app and it was seamless and easy to do. I did an order of chicken wings and the Phuket Noodles with basil. Delivery was super fast, at my place within 30 min and food was fresh. Wings were delicious. I'm a big wings guy and was pleasantly surprised. They were hot, crispy and not too greasy. The noodles were okay, large portion and they were hot. Not as spicy as I had hoped (ordered them medium). One complaint would just be the noodles had a bit of a gelatinous texture, but I think it was caused by the container. Overall it was a good meal and I had plenty of food for lunch the next day. Most under rated restaurant in the area. How this place does not have 5 stars blows my mind. Everything we have ever eaten here has been amazing. The restaurant is good for dates, friends, family, hanging out watching the bruins, you name it. You can sit on one side of he restaurant which is bright and well lit where they make sushi in front of you to order. Or you can sit on the other side (the side we prefer) which is more dim and relaxed atmosphere. The staff is funny and knowledgeable. They will give you advice and help you navigate through the menu. The food always tastes fresh and clean, not like it is sitting under heating lamps in the back. The drinks are always really strong and delicious. You can't go wrong with Sei Bar. Maybe I should have just stuck with the Thai food on this menu...Sei no more sushi in your lunch special for $9.50? I got miso and then 5 pieces of sushi. Doesn't really seem like a full lunch for $9.50.... Good thing we also got one of their appetizer samplers which really was more of the thai type of food which included pretty tasty crab rangoons, some thai spring rolls that were nothing special, some fried chicken wings that actually I found pretty crispy and tasty, and then this super addicting beef spare ribs that were just too fun to pick up with our chop sticks not to eat all of. One person in our group got one of their thai dishes as a lunch special and really liked it--and then you get the entree, rice, salad, miso, a thai roll all for about $8. Definitely the winning choice. Sei bar, why didn't you Sei something?? That your thai food was a better buy and better tasting? My sushi lunch special was fine, just not the best sushi in the world.
