The tempura was not bad - I would say more of your typical tempura. I had the spider maki and was somewhat disappointed to only have 5 pieces rather than your normal 7-8. My daughter ordered the lobster roll which had many more pieces. However it seemed like part of the roll had asparagus and some did not, some had avocado and some did not, etc. Not every piece was the same. The martinis were well done. The lychee martini was awesome. I would definitely order that again. The apple pear martini was pretty good too although not to my taste as much as the lychee one. The sake martini wasn't bad. Service was a bit slow. It was probably because we had a big party. However it's a bit disappointing when everyone else was eating their food and two of us were just waiting for our sushi orders. TL;DR - Very solid food, nothing remarkable, but hits most of the right notes. Service needs refining. Went here with a group of people (there were 6 of us) and ordered the Spicy Tuna Rangoon for an appetizer and for Davis Square Maki and Mexican Roll for mains. Also had some green tea. The Spicy Tuna Rangoons were definitely an interesting spin on Crab Rangoons (one of my weaknesses). In terms of filling, they definitely did not skimp on the meat, as they were filled entirely with spicy tuna, and not 98% or more of cream cheese! (Can't say this is the case here, but in other places it has been known to happen). Nothing remarkable in terms of flavors, but pleasant. The dough was not immediately out of the fryer, and I personally would have liked it a little crisper, but this wasn't glaring. Also possible they wanted to wait until more dishes in my party's order were ready. The sauce provided was pleasant as well, a spicy mayo, possibly? Sushi rolls also did not skimp on the meat! Fish itself seemed to be of high quality. They were definitely tasty, but unremarkable. Some of those touches which would service to distinguish them were lost for me. For instance: the Mexican Roll was supposed to have: "avocado wrapped with tabasco sauce", but I don't recall that distinct Tabasco flavor. Possible they were referring to the sauce used on top, but if memory serves, I would not call it Tabasco sauce. The tea wasn't the tastiest green tea on the planet, but for a cold night with unlimited refills, I will take it! Then came the service: it was fast and efficient, but there were moments of unprofessionalism which made the experience less than stellar. I realize this is not the caliber of restaurant where servers wear tuxedos with bow ties, but service is part of the experience nonetheless. A couple examples: When handing food to someone further down the table, the server's shirt came uncomfortably close to hugging my food. When refilling water, some spilled on the table, truly no big deal, she apologized, we said it's okay, but the not miniscule spill wasn't cleaned up (nor even extra napkins brought over). Finally, a can of iced tea ordered fell on the floor, and thankfully didn't burst. She apologized, and served it to my friend anyways. Bottom line - has the best spicy salmon roll around Davis Square. Reasonable prices for the quality of fish you get. Opens later than most restaurants. This is a TEXTBOOK take on spicy salmon rolls. It should be simple, fresh, crunchy and this place nailed all three, at a reasonable price. Didn't have high expectations because of the price/decor/reviews but was pleasantly surprised. This place is underrated especially for the price you get fresh sushi at. They offered both table and booth seating. Service was great- our waitress was kind and attentive throughout our stay! We started with the fried vegetable gyoza ($5.95) which came with a side of yummy, slightly vinegar-y dipping sauce. It was piping hot and yummy but the pieces were a bit too fried. The outer skin was quite crunchy! I had the Spicy Vegetable Noodle Soup ($10.75) as my entree. It isn't listed as spicy on the menu but they were kind enough to accommodate my request! It consisted of assorted vegetables (bok choy, broccoli, bean sprouts, diced asparagus stalks), chewy ramen noodles, and a savory, spicy broth. The spice level was pretty high but that added so much more flavor to everything! I found its slightly peanutty taste to be a little strange, though. I loved the abundance of noodles. I've since been to OGinger twice, and twice I've been surprised at not only the quality of the food, but also the prices on the menu. It is some of the most affordable sushi and seafood around! The seafood ramen was loaded with goodies and the sashimi lunch combo was not bad. Both were about $10. Crazy. They are also clearly trying with the plating and the service. The restaurant is also surprisingly nice inside. It's clean and spacious (it looks somewhat dark and gloomy from the outside). It think the reason that people are not rushing to OGinger is their somewhat confused identity. They are clearly an Asian restaurant, but don't identify with a specific cuisine and while they offer the Sushirritos, they also have lots of other options. Give it a chance. Pretty decent spot to get some sushi here in Davis Square, especially during your lunch hour. They've got your typical standard sushi go-tos, we each ordered a California roll and it was very good. The pickled ginger kind of had a funny aftertaste, but other than that it was yummy. We also had the miso soup and house salad, however the soup was served lukewarm (which I hate) and they only fill the bowl halfway, but it still had a nice flavor. The salad was good, it had lots of crunchy lettuce but it could have used more veggies (i.e., cucumber, onion, carrots). The people sitting next to us had these delicious-looking beverages that resembled Thai Iced Teas, not sure what they're called but they looked fantastic. Prices are ok. It was very filling so I shouldn't have eaten to much of it before I got my sushirrito! I ended up ordering the vegas sushirrito, and there was plenty of salmon, crab, crunchies, and cream cheese to tie it altogether. One thing I would say is the way it is cut looks great for pictures and presentation, but it makes it hard for that first bite to have everything in it. I thought the proportions of everything were great and I will definitely be coming back! When we arrived we were seated straight away, and the food came out faster than I thought! I got the Cosmos sushi burrito here for takeout one night after work (around 6pm, dinner time) and was really surprised that the place was completely empty except for me and one other customer who was dining in alone. Because I was the only one needing to be served, my order was placed and I paid right away while my burrito was quickly made. Sushi burritos aren't really popular here in Boston (compared to California) so I was very excited to try it out. Before I came here I thought they just specialized in the burritos but it's more of a sushi restaurant with burrito options. I waited until I got home to try the burrito but after I took it out of the container, I was so disappointed by the size. It was ~$10-11 for a snack size sushi roll.... taste was just okay (the spicy tuna didn't have much flavor and there was some avocado) and I wished the burrito was served in a seaweed wrap rather than soy paper. Overall just a small, expensive, lackluster sushi burrito. Stick with the other menu items and / or remember that the burrito is just an appetizer. read more

I used to walk past this place whenever in Davis because I assumed it wouldn't be authentic or that great. With that in mind I ended up enjoying my meal because it was on par with what I expected- good food that was not-so-authentic Japanese but rather a mishmosh of Asian food (there was Thai iced tea and other Chinese-style items on the menu) and fad items like sushi burritos. We got two basic sushi rolls and they were good, generous portions of fish that were fresh And we tried 2 noodle soups: Spicy beef with soba- very good, spicy as entitled Vegetable noodle with ramen- comforting dish, I liked that there was a good assortment of veggies, the broth could have been more flavorful Conclusion: Are there better places for authentic Japanese food? Definitely. But the location is convenient and I discovered this place is pretty solid. If you're coming here for a gourmet or trendy meal, or want great service (the waitresses were nice but gruff) then yeah you'll be disappointed. But, if you're looking for some sushi and Japanese inspired food that's reasonably priced then this is definitely a 4-star place and worth trying. read more

We went here last week, ordered in from the store, and only had to wait 10 minutes for our takeout order. When we got home, we found they had given us the Udon Noodles with chicken instead of shrimp. We called them up about this and they made us a replacement dish with the shrimp, no questions asked! I went back and picked it up, and it was delicious. The Spicy Beef Noodles in Soup was also delicious, with a very flavorful broth that wonderfully warmed my insides on a chilly winter night. There's a list that you can choose from - 2 rolls and miso soup for $9.25! I'm pregnant, and our server was very patient with me as I asked questions about what was in one of the rolls. After taking our orders, she came back to say "no tobiko also, right?", and I said no to that. Appreciate her clarifying things with the chef. I got a shrimp tempura roll and an avocado roll.
