Food: Sushi and ginger eggplant were INCREDIBLE! Some of the best sushi I've had. Service: Food was fast. Ambiance: One of the toilets wouldn't flush properly, there was a ton of toilet paper and the water kept going up. I flagged it to one of the servers. But it was dirty.
A neighborhood Japanese restaurant in the Union Square area, opened in 2011. A friend recommended it, and it has a hidden gem feel to it. Agedashi Tofu: The best Agedashi tofu I've ever had! The outer shell was incredibly crispy and light, while the lower half, soaked in boiling broth, was so soft and almost translucent; the inside was smooth and delicate, almost runny. The dashi broth was extremely flavorful, with just the right amount of saltiness and a slightly sweet aftertaste; mixing in the ginger and radish puree, it's not as spicy as I expected, but rather enhances the umami flavor to another level. It was so comforting to eat. Salmon Avocado Rolls: The salmon was of good quality--tender, smooth, soft, and chewy, with a rich, oily texture, and cut quite thick. Combined with the oily, fragrant avocado, it was very satisfying. Tuna Rolls: Also thickly cut, completely free of any fishy taste. Another enjoyable experience.

Their sushi takeout is consistently good, and the special rolls are beautifully made and topped generously. The prices for the sushi are a bit expensive, but the portions are sizeable as well. The staff are friendly and efficient, and takeout orders are always timely!

Rolls were very fresh, and I particularly liked their options that included eel sauce. Ordered: Blue dragon: more of a unique roll. I got it to try because it looked different from standard sushi rolls, but I found that I didn't like how crunchy it was. I think the bean sprouts inside it contributed to this Miso salmon: it sounded delicious and it was. Fish was fresh and didn't have any sort of smell but was pretty clearly high quality Veggie gyoza: I am always charmed when restaurants have green dumpling wrappers for veggie options. I got these pan fried and liked them! Six per order Service was decently quick and attentive even on a Friday evening. I have no complaints! I'd come again
Had high expectations for this place but it was a little disappointing. We were a big group but still service was slow and had make attempts to get their attention multiple times for water and missing cutlery. The food was decent nothing too crazy. The boat presentation and everything was kind of sad to look at but I would say getting the salmon belly is worth it. The volcano is a little different from what I've usually seen, there weren't as many toppings, not giving explosion but it did form the shape. The place was packed so expect it to be a little louder and having to speak up. There is parking in the lot beside the restaurant that's paid and also a clean bathroom.
Celebratory lunch date. Was packed on a weekday because it was a public holiday and we waited a long time for the staff to clear a table for us. They were very busy. Service was slow that day. The food was great at usual. Melt in the mouth torched salmon belly and the tasty salmon ninniku. We also enjoyed the Smoky lemon hamachi and the scallop nigiri - both the truffle and the honey pecorino. Ordering off the nigiri menu is always a treat!
My birthday was on a Saturday this year and so my husband and I came here a little before the peak dinner rush. We wrote our names down and were told it would be a 30min wait, so I set a 20min timer and crossed the street to get a drink at the Independent in the meantime. Kid you not, as we got our drink at the bar we got the call that the table was ready. This was all within 10mins of setting my timer. It took a while for someone to attend to us while we were seated but as soon as I started looking around for a server quickly took notice and came right over came to take our order. She was nice. We order some of our usuals - tiger roll, boston roll, eel roll and squid roll,- and a few new items - Everything was so fresh and yummy. It was a good dining experience. They'll be moving across the street soon and I'm glad I got to experience the ambience of the restaurant post renovations and pre-relocating
i have been here multiple times, and it is my favorite sushi in the area. I love their nigiri, and we tried a soba dish this most recent time that was really yummy. We sat at the bar and it was fun to watch them make everything. Our server was helpful and attentive. Has a chill, late-night ambiance that is enjoyable and just right!
Solid sushi place, the quality of nigiri is good quality and overall a great value. I got the 20 piece combo with 14 piece nigiri. It came with miso soup that was absolutely delicious. I tried the tiger roll which has shrimp tempura and has a spicy crab mix on top that is torched. My favorite was the yellowtail nigiri that I normally don't get. Torched salmon belly was good but it would have been better if it was warm. Overall good service and good food. The asthetics are cute too! They have a parking lot next to the restaurant which you have to pay for.
Parking is paid to park, restaurant has a nice groovy vibe to it. Good for group/double date or even kids. However the wait is terrible long even when it's not during rush hour or crowded. The food is okay, not standout, just standard. Has a bar section with lot of drinks option for you to try
Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any sushi joint in Boston. For someone who was born and raised in TX where we did not have good access to fresh seafood.. Boston was crazy good. Came here without a reservation for a small snack and drinks.. however ended up ordering more because it was THAT good. NOTHING smelled fishy. everything was super fresh. I believe the restaurant had a sign stating they are moving to a new location so hopefully its a bigger space because it was a little tight here. I did see they also do catering. Did not order it myself but saw someone take huge trays of beautifully made rolls.
My partner and I had a lovely dinner at Ebi Sushi! The ambiance here is great and it's conveniently located as well. The staff were also very accommodating and friendly. We started things off with the agedashi tofu, which honestly turned out to be my favorite thing we ordered. The broth and fried tofu skin truly is unbeatable. We then ordered two rolls (one spicy maki and another basic salmon roll) as well as some sashimi. It was a bit pricey but the portions felt pretty fair to me. The flavors and freshness of the fish were great and everything really complemented each other well. We ended our meal with a butter cake (and some vanilla ice cream) which was very tasty and the perfect sweet treat. I'd definitely love to come back or even order takeout from here again.
Came here for dinner and drinks. I was the only vegan, so I tried a couple of the appetizers for myself, and WOW. I got the Agedashi Tofu and Ginger Eggplant, and both absolutely blew my mind. Both of them for just me was way too much, ended up bringing fully half home (and i think the eggplant was even better the next day). And the cocktail I got, a pear martini, was one of the best I've had in a long time. Fresh, yummy, and very strong! It was very busy, so I'm glad we made a reservation. Even with only four of us, it was loud enough that it was hard to hear the conversation at times. I don't think it would have worked well for a larger group. Overall, highly recommend, and I will be back! read more

I've been to Ebi Sushi Bar a few times, and it's been pretty decent overall. The location is great and there is parking. Unfortunately, my most recent visit wasn't quite as good. I ordered the spicy beef udon soup, and while the noodles were cooked really nicely with a great chewy texture, the soup itself wasn't very spicy. I also tried a few different rolls, but they were pretty average and nothing particularly stood out. Service was also a bit slow during this visit. Overall, it's a convenient spot with a great location and parking, but my latest experience was just okay compared to previous visits. read more

Food: sushi as follows: Smoky lemon hamachi - ok Seared tuna - skip Torched salmon belly - get this Suzuki ume shiso - ok Hawaiian tuna poke - get this Negitoro gunkan - get this Sake ninniku tartare - skip Unagi nigiri - get this Ume and cucumber maki - ok Service: I was wondering what was taking so long for our order and it turns out they made everything at once and served it at the same time. First time here, noticed they are moving to new location soon. Parking was a bit tough when we went but we parked on the side that was city parking during certain times in that particular lot and walked around the corner. We had a short wait and was seated and greeted quickly. Everything we ordered was tasty. So we chose a sushi combo, which means you get X number of pieces for your choice. For example, if you get a 12 pc combo, you'd choose 6 pieces of nigiri let's say, and 1 sushi roll (6-8pc dependent on the roll). The server had to explain it to us haha because we initially just chose all nigiri. We also grabbed the agedashi tofu (so umami and yummy!) big pieces of tofu too! Always have to get the fried chicken (their karage) it was good overall but a bit thin so it was on the dryer side for us, but tasty and a nice chew. The hokkaiyaki was superb! Scallop shell appetizer, nice flavor profile, lots of scallop bits in there with imitation crab meat and spicy mayo. etc. Miso soup had plenty of flavor, tofu, and seaweed! They didn't skimp on the miso flavor base. The fish was fresh, had clean chew and my favorite is usually always the tuna belly. I enjoyed our torched salmon roll as well, but it definitely is very filling. Great experience, will be back to check out new location! read more
Absolutely loveeeee this place. Cocktails are well crafted. Sushi rolls and omakase are absolutely fresh and savory. If you are a true fish/sushi lover. This is the place to go. My kids are so picky when it comes to sushi and coming here, I know they will always leave full! I absolutely am all about supporting local and this restaurant is owned by a couple that walked their way up the industry. This place is absolutely cozy but I honestly hesitate bringing my girls as it's cozy but maybe too cozy that I worry my kids are too close to the table next to us who may be enjoying a quiet date. But because the sushi is so good here we try to come for lunch!! I hear they are moving across the street to a larger space and extending a ramen place next to it. I'm excited!!! read more
Ebi Sushi has been a favorite of mine for years as they've been around for many years. Happy to see they're still growing strong all the while serving an extensive menu of sushi & other favorites in informal environs. It had been a while since my last visit & to my amazement they had done some renovations and I must say I love the new look and ambience. Pair that with great service and their usual exquisite menu & it's all a big win. We came, we smiled, we ate some delicious sushi Pork Buns 8-hour Pork Belly w/sweet sauce scallions, lettuce & mayo. Absolutely love Bao Buns and the pork just melts in your mouth like butter. A perfect appetizer to kick things off Volcano Roll Spicy Tuna roll with fried Sriracha A very nice & lite spicy kick to this roll. Absolutely loved it House Roll Shrimp Tempura, masago & cucumber with avocado, spicy mayo & sweet sauce on top This specialty roll was one of the best shrimp rolls I've ever had Ali Unagi - Nigiri Eel is my absolute favorite. Had to order just two of these rolls. Fresh water eel, white truffle oil, rosemary salt. Butter Cake with Ice Cream A nice airy dessert to conclude our evening. read more
I used to work in the area and would come here for lunch sometimes. Once I also came for dinner. I also tried ordering takeout from them before. They are small. They do get busy. Because they get busy, they also deem it ok to refuse omakase nigiri orders. It's weird. Honestly, they should list their policy on their menu--not during lunch, and only early during dinner--a limited time slot. Or take it off the menu. Because if you order too late, it'll get too busy for them, and it'll interrupt their flow. For some reason. The only reason I come here is for some nigiri. I order only their 10 piece omakase. And maybe an appetizer. The only one I've had was their ankimono (monkfish liver). However, it seems whenever they are jam packed, they refuse to serve omakase, since in their own words, it "takes them too much time to prepare" when they are slammed. It's a shame. This means if you want their 10 piece variety pack, you have to come during lunch (as it's generally less busy than dinner), and come super early during dinner. Maybe. I did get lucky before though. I did order the 10 piece omakase during lunch, perhaps before they caught on. And I did order their 10 piece omakase during an early dinner hour. But for takeout? Around 6 pm? Nah, they definitely won't do that for you, whether you dine in or take out. Food wise, I have no complaints, except when they copped out on the omakase lunch request, and then later on when they started to deny omakase orders. As for the interior, I like the mural adorning the wall. The wooden tables and seating are neat. It's cozy. There's also a Dunkin' Donuts next door. read more
I was very curious about Ebi Sushi since it was recommended to me multiple times but tried to temper my expectations going in. From the very beginning once we walked in, the service was top notch and super friendly. We ordered 4 rolls: miso salmon, volcano, blizzard, and sweet tempura and were wow'd by nearly all of them! The blizzard roll and sweet tempura were my personal favorites followed by the volcano roll and then the miso salmon. Others in my party liked the blizzard and volcano roll the most. We walked away with bellies full, absolutely stuffed and extremely satisfied with a delicious meal and great service. read more

Came to Ebi sushi on a Friday night with a friend and it was amazing! The vibe was great and it's very close to union station in Somerville. The service and vibe was great as it was pretty packed and we were luckily able to be seated right away as a party of 2. My friend ordered the 5 piece omakase and I ordered the chirashi. My friend said she loved the omakase and that her nigiri were all super fresh and worth the price. The chirashi was delicious and came with so much assorted sashimi on top of Japanese rice. The sashimi was fresh and colorful and I would definitely reccomend for those who love sashimi and the price was really worth it. I would definitely come back to try more options on their menu! read more

Best sushi in Boston area!! The fish is so fresh and cut thick. The price is also great for how amazing the quality is. I never have to wait for a table and the service is fast. The takoyaki, shrimp tempura, and fried chicken appetizers are also amazing!! read more
(4.5 stars) My son and I stopped in for dinner after a long day of traveling. We were craving sushi something bad. We got the 20 piece combo (that felt weird typing for sushi, sounds like wings but it's not lol). You get 14 nigiri and 1 roll. It was the perfect amount of food. Leftovers when traveling can be a real pain. We also ordered a starter, Hokkaiyaki. I realized after we left I must have said it wrong because I ended up with takoyaki. However, I personally love takoyaki, so I just rolled with it. The restaurant itself is cute, and the service was friendly. The bathrooms could use a wipe down. Overall, we were happy with our choice and left full and happy. read more
Ebi Sushi Bar is worth the visit if you enjoy good quality sushi w/o paying extra premium prices! They're located in Somerville, which I used to frequent often but with this being said, I just knew parking would be a little annoying since it's a pretty congested area w/ not many parking options. We did end up parking in a small lot & paid via QR code next door, $10 for 2 hrs. They don't take reservations here at Ebi, so it's first come first serve & when we finally arrived, it's was about a 5 min wait for 2 people. I really like the concept of the sushi combos, though I didn't understand it at first haha. So, they give you a sheet of paper you can mark w a pencil & can choose a couple nigiris + sushi rolls for a set price. For example, we ended up going w/ the 12 piece combo for $32, with 6 nigiris of our choice (salmon, striped bass, + yellowtail) & a roll of our choice which was the torched miso salmon maki, which came with a miso soup! There were also a couple nigiris we wanted to try that were not included in this combo set, so we ordered 3 different nigiris x2, torched salmon belly, kampachi, & yellowtail belly. For apps, we ordered the agedashi tofu, hotate hokkaiyaki, & the Japanese fried chicken. All the nigiris were so good! My favorite was the yellowtail belly, though I thought my favorite was gonna be the torched miso salmon nigiri BUT we found it to be a little more torched than we'd like & think that it would be better if it was torched for less time to be more buttery! The hotate hokkaiyaki was quite enjoyable. It was slightly different than from other restaurants we've tried this dish from & something that stood out was the use of onions. Great flavor & scallops were tasty + cooked perfectly. Agedashi tofu also was very delicious + tofu pieces were HUGE! Came piping hot, and for me, that's always a good sign lol. I think that the combo sets are a great deal; the maki roll & the nigiris were ginormous & great portions. Apps are worth getting too! Only thing is, we found the Japanese fried chicken to be a little dry & at first I thought maybe they used chicken breast but realized usually it's chicken thigh and it was indeed chicken thigh. Perhaps it was because the pieces were cut thin? OVERALL, our meal was lovely & I would definitely come back again! Staff was kind and helpful. Prices, I feel like, are very reasonable for the quality you get + taste. read more

So delicious! They have a lot of combo options available, but we chose to build this plate instead with individual orders of sushi (as well as a roll ofc). I appreciated the flexibility of ordering this way, especially if there are any dietary restrictions or preferences to work with! The miso soup was a comforting addition. Went here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. Good service and ambiance. They have a weekday lunch menu and honestly the food is exceptional for the price (it was under $20). Both my friend and I ordered the teriyaki salmon lunch set and it came with rice, salad, miso soup, California roll (3 pcs), and shrimp and vegetables tempura. Teriyaki Salmon: 4.5/5 Perfectly crispy on the outside and perfect doneness as well! Teriyaki sauce was a little lacking in ginger but not too sweet(!) which I really appreciated. Rice: 4/5 Cooked just right. Not clumped together or too mushy. Salad: 3.5/5 I would say proportionally on the larger side, which as a veggie lover, I really appreciate! The dressing is light and soy sauce-based. Miso: 3 Your average miso. California Roll: 3 Pretty standard Tempura: 4.5/5 Veggie tempura included broccoli, zucchini and sweet potato (1 piece each). Shrimp tempura was slightly undercooked (I didn't end up finishing it because it was still a little bit on the translucent side and I wasn't sure if it was sushi grade). That honestly could happen anywhere and the fact that it was undercooked likely meant that they used fresh shrimp!! So no complaints! (I honestly think if I had asked they would help me out with it but I literally ate it at the very end so didn't bother with it.) Overall great flavors and a light batter! The tempura dipping is light, and it was more savory than sweet. I honestly enjoyed the tempura a lot. This is quality (especially for the price), and I will definitely come back for more! read more

This was a good place to go to. This was sort of last minute on a Sunday during lunch hours and everywhere else in downtown Boston was packed and I had given up. But I remembered there were great options in Somerville the last time I visited and I figured I could look for a sushi place in the area, and I found one right away. Good reviews, the food looked great and the prices were decent. The parking might be hard if it's a busy day, but I was able to find a place to park, you just can't park in Dunkin's parking lot which looks like they share. But the lot I stayed in is just right across the street. The venue itself isn't super large, but a good amount of seating and a long bar area where I was quickly seated and served, I was getting a little bit darker vibes, like at night it might be a little more romantic than it was in the daylight. I got nigiri and sashimi and it was fantastic and the presentation was lovely. I wish I could have tried more, but from what I did order, it was more than enough and I was certainly full. Ebi is the best. Great quality and prices! I love their toro and it's very reasonably priced ($7.50 mkt). We've been coming more frequently this year after having a lovely time in March for a birthday dinner. The service is always friendly and they have been super accommodating of any allergies/special requests. It's usually busy on Friday and Saturday nights so they have a wait list at the door. It's usually not too bad of a wait but they do want you to stay close by. Highly recommend!! read more
Was craving sushi and my friend suggested Ebi and I am very glad she did. I don't have many "wow"/ "yummm" food moments in Boston so this was a really nice surprise. Not only was the food good, but the place is so cute! The little soy sauce dishes had crabs/bok choy painted on them and just adds a playful touch. Tempura Appetizer {4.5/5}: I like how thin the batter was and how well each item was cooked. The dipping sauce (tentsuyu?) was served warm and was a perfect addition to this dish. Wish there were more pieces, small portion Agedashi tofu {5/5}: Loved this appetizer. The broth that the perfectly soft fried tofu was sitting in was amazing, I wish I could bring a bowl of it home. It would have been nicer in my opinion to have a thicker coating of batter to soak the broth up better, but that's just because I want an excuse to drink up more of that sauce... 30 piece sushi boat {4/5}: The pieces of fish were good in size in comparison to the rice. One of the white fish had a slight fishy taste (not in the best way) to me which is why I docked a star, but the other pieces were pretty good. We split this and the apps among 4 of us and we were comfortably full. Waitress was very nice and food was fresh and quickly brought out. Came here on a Friday night for dinner and all I can say is I will definitely be coming back. The sashimi is so fresh and the specialty rolls are big. We got the lychee martinis which were very tasty. I got the rainbow roll and sashimi combo and both were excellent. Would recommend coming here to anyone who loves sushi! read more

First time here and wow the sushi was amazing and tasted fresh, even the wasabi was good and only need a little bit compared to other places where I need to use soo much! Definitely a go to! read more

Fresh sushi and a fun vibe all in all! Love stopping by here when I'm in Union Square. Definitely prefer their sushi over their other dishes but those are good as well. Always beautifully played and fast service. read more
