    Spicy jigoku ramen..... Yum!!
    David T.

I live a fair distance away from Pikaichi so I unfortunately don't get to visit as much as I would like. I absolutely love not only the customer service from the waitstaff but also the flavors from the menu. Welcomed by a Japanese phrase as soon as you enter....I believe it's "welcome" and also a phrase when you leave...I assume it's goodbye the service is fantastic. Top that off with amazing ramen at affordable prices and it's a no brainer. If you haven't tried this menu or establishment what are you waiting for! I've been stopping at Pikaichi for years (used to be located near B-u on mass ave) and the quality and value just keeps getting better. My go to in the "Boston" area for down home ramen. Try this first and compare all others from this epic experience .

Pikaichi in Medford is a cute little ramen shop with extremely affordable ramen. The ramen market in Boston has gotten pretty ridiculous at around $18 a bowl depending where you go. This was my first time here (which is sad because they're closing again for a few months) and I was impressed! Yuzu shio was a refreshing bowl of ramen with the chewy wavy noodles and the chashu bowl was tasty. The portions are a little small but I think it is great value. Not as much meat as the more expensive places but I think the prices here are more than fair. So sad this place is closing temporarily after just discovering it but I can't wait to come back when they open again.

For a late lunch I tried to Pikaichi. I found some nearby street parking and went it to meet my party. A tablet displayed an estimated way time of 45 minutes; I was seated within 10. I ordered the Hokkai Shio Ramen ($10.99), with add-ons of a marinated egg (+$1.50) and extra noodles (+$2). I could smell the bonito used in the broth as the waitress arrived with my order. It carried briny umami savoriness but also a touch of smoke. The marinated egg came with the textbook staining and jammy yolk, but was a touch cold. The noodles, a yellow wavy type instantly recognizable as from Sun Noodle, remained chewy. Chashu was underwhelming - thin roast pork, not belly. Given the low initial price point, you get a relatively light portion size, though not lacking in flavor. An excellent local or neighborhood establishment that doesn't seek to dethrone the reigning ramen champion in the region. Bonus points for the staff speaking Japanese, so I could flag down staff with a loud sumimasen and not look rude.

Pikaichi is a MFing BANGER. Everyone in Boston is sleeping on them. I would come again and again. The ramen bowls are so cheap, at only 12$ - you can add on so many more toppings if that's what you need (but I thought it was perfect.) The soup is rich and flavorful, and the ramen noodled are cooked to perfection. Perfectly QQ. ALSO. Do not sleep on the pudding. I don't even love pudding like that but one bite and it instantly took me back to the streets of Tokyo eating one in a 7-11.

I was excited to try Pikaichi, given all of the recent hype. I opted for takeout as it was not possible to get a reservation. Takeout on a Friday night at 5pm was estimated to be 70 minutes. Order early! The pickup process was easy but a bit chaotic. There were maybe 20 people crammed in the front area just waiting for a table. Luckily, I was able to push past to get my food and the staff was all very nice and friendly to me. Now onto the ramen - I'll be honest I was a bit disappointed by the size of the ramen - see photo for reference. Typically when I get ramen it's hard for me to finish it all but I found I ate this whole bowl and still could have gone for a more. I understand why they are a bit skimpy though as the spicy miso was delicious! They are fairly priced too, so would definitely try it again!

They have an updated menu with new prices. The flavor is always standard and they never fail to make a good bowl of ramen. They just have weird hours and closed randomly for vacations. Check before you go

The absolute best ramen spot in all of Massachusetts! The staff is so sweet and welcoming. They greet you as soon as you walk in and as you leave. They all work together really well. It's gotta be the best ramen I've ever have and every single item on the menu tastes great. My personal favorite is the Spicy Miso with a whole egg. There are always great vibes in this restaurant and will always recommend!

I've tried Ramen all over Boston has this one is definitely one of the best! The service was OUTSTANDING. Our server was so kind and friendly towards us and other guests. There was a visually impaired man in the restaurant next to us and the server went above and beyond to help the man with the menu, navigating through the restaurant, keeping him updated on the time, and helping him with payment. The restaurant was SO busy for lunch, we arrived at noon and waited about 30 minutes for a 2 person table but the wait was worth it. We ordered 2 different drinks (Melon Cream soda and Lychee Calpico) which were both so sweet! As for ramen we ordered the Spicy Misco & Pika Miso and added an egg in both. They were both great portion sizes and so good! The Spicy Miso wasn't too spicy but had a kick to it! Lastly we ordered a side of Cha-Shu Don which was so tender and good!

To be seated, you'll need to check in on their tablet. Wait time is usually more than 30 mins. Service is excellent and timely. I ordered Jigoku ramen, pudding, and calpico lychee. Ramen was spicy with mild broth. Nooddle's texture was ok and meat toppings were delicious. Pudding has nice soft texture, I will eat this pudding anytime!!

Food (1.5/2): Had the yuzu shio ramen with a side of curry rice. The curry rice was great with strong flavors. However, it lacks "meat"--it felt like just the sauce with onions. Additionally the serving seemed to be 90% rice and 10% curry. The ramen on the other hand was incredibly interesting--though not without its cons. The pork cuts were somewhat small and seemed slightly overcooked. The taste was simple and standard--not much else. They used wakame instead of nori, which in this case I think is a better match. The aji-tama was well-prepared though a touch on the "cooked" side. Surprisingly however, they seasoned them so well that I could taste the sauce even in the yolk. However, all these pales in comparison to the broth's complex flavors. On the first sip, I somehow tasted some smoked flavor--reminiscent of BBQ (the oil??) and this tasted great when I ate the ramen with the pork. As I drank and mix the soup more, the yuzu flavor surfaced and blended with the rest, providing an unexpected sensation of freshness near the end of devouring the bowl. Service/wait-time/cleanliness (2/2): Service was quick, courteous, and straight-to-the-point. The people there are very welcoming even when I came in ~30 minutes before closing. When they prepare to close, they also wait courteously and reminded us nicely of their closing hours. Tables and the environment were maintained very clean. Price (1/1): For the price, they are giving you a great deal. I'd definitely come here more often if I live nearby.

Pike Miso. A bit on the small side but tasty.

The layout of the restaurant is similar to the Brookline location, with the private booths on the right and special booths on the left, main seating area in the middle, and the bar seating towards the back. Only difference is the Brookline location has those cool matcha whisk structures, while this location has cool honeycomb structures. I would've loved to experience sitting in one of those. I always like to eat spicy so of course I got the Kyushu Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. As always, broth is so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The ramen texture is my favorite, good amount of softness and waviness. The boiled egg is marinated just right, not too salty or sweet. The chashu pork is tender. I wanted to try their version of the spicy cucumbers. It's REALLY spicy. But also very good. The flavor reminds me of the Chinese chili oil sweet potato noodles, very spicy, kind of salty, and a strong taste of vinegar. I love snacking on it. The takoyaki is the best of course, perfectly soft and tender, with thin bonito shavings and great sauce. The fries are essentially seasoned the same way. Salted fries with the takoyaki sauces and bonito. The combo works very well together. Thai tea was good and service was great. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop by for another bowl.

We thought…read moreabout trying one of the combo options, but I ended up ordering the curry ramen, and upgrading it for $7 to include a Thai tea and bao bun. The bun was delicious, with tender pork and a flavorful sauce and I loved having the Thai tea to sip on. We also ordered the cucumber salad to share and it was nice and fresh and spicy. My curry ramen was delicious and hearty. My partner ordered the #2 and I really liked the pork in his bowl, I preferred it over the tonkatsu in mine. We ended our meal with matcha tiramisu and during the current promotion, we won an order of popcorn chicken to redeem on our next visit. The restaurant is cozy and they make use of the small space with their honeycomb wall. There are lots of employees working, so service is quick and we were able to call our sever to the table with a button when we wanted to order and pay.

There was a huge line outside the restaurant but they gave you menus and took your order in line. Everything was pretty fast and efficient even though they were busy. They had music going and you can see all the workers vibing, it was good energy to see while eating. The menu isn't large but there is option for cold or hot and spicy. Pick the cold noodles!! They are so good, the soup was good too but the cold noodles are definitely the star of the show. The portion size is great, it was more than I expected and the portion with protein and everything was balanced well. The bowl came with beef, ginger, seaweed and I think tempura.
