For eight dollars I got two drops of cold tomato soup. No. Absolutely not. Never again. Also it was super salty.

My wife was able to put together a surprise birthday dinner for me. Alex was our amazing host!! We had a good time. Food was amazing!! The atmosphere was a good vibe. The food especially the chicken dip is something to go back and enjoy again!! read more

The Yard is great for typical bar fare and has a fun vibe. Our favorites are the Poutine with Tater Tots and Mac Attack Balls. I haven't tried the healthy options yet but they look good too! Check out their menu with pictures online. :) read more

The food we received was great! Our appetizers came after our food. Some of the appetizers we ordered never even came. Our waitress seemed very inconvenienced when we asked for refills and was super rude. 10/10 would not even hire her to microwave a hamburger. read more

This was a an amazing place to have brunch. We had a party of four and we were serviced in under 30 minutes. All of food was fantastic and the service was by far the best we received in Market Square. This should be your next stop for brunch! read more

Me and my friend went here for the first time last night to try something new and we were pleasantly impressed. I got the buffalo chicken dip appetizer and it was so good! Then I got the walking ched burger that comes with melted cheese and Mac on it which was delicious and tasted great dipped in the tomato soup. I also ordered a cocktail and it was delicious not a ton of alcohol in it but the taste was good. I also ordered the "cause I got high" dessert but honestly wasn't that impressed with it and could of done without it. This place is also vegetarian friendly my friend had the shroom grilled cheese sandwich and said it was really good. The service was good and the vibe of the place was really nice. Would definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

Garlic aioli was phenomenal, but the burger was overcooked. I had ordered it medium but no one knows how to cook a burger other than well done. It was still tasty. The bacon was crispy but, could have been thicker. Still added a nice saltyness to the burger. The chips were crunchy and not over salted which is nice. Staff was friendly and made sure my drink was never low and that my experience was good. read more

Pros: friendly and attentive bartender, GREAT mocktail and very accommodating with my request for it, casual atmosphere for grabbing a drink or dinner with friends, not too loud. Cons: The food a The Yard, both locations, just always leaves a bit to be desired. We got the house made chips to munch on, and they didn't have any seasoning on them, not even salt. My wings were not very tender, and the sauce was a little too thin and oily. I had been to the Shadyside location years ago and tried a grilled cheese, and was not impressed. I will be back because it is nice to have an option like this in Robinson, and it's a good place for drinks. read more

The Yard - Fried Green Tomatoes sandwich - American Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Been to The Yard over a dozen times, to three of their location, including delivered via Grubhub (not recommended). A good local chain. Pros: they have enough original grilled cheese sandwiches to satisfy the pickiest o& eater, plus burger and flatbreads. They have increased the amount of cheese on their sandwiches & their sauces on those sandwiches are tasty. Their appetizers are top notch. Cons: I like that tomato soup comes with the grilled cheese but is a bit bland. Sometimes the bread isn't toasted enough and the sandwiches themselves can be hit-or-miss. Summary: when they hit the target, The Yard is awesome. Tonight was very close to being a bullseye. Pro-Tip: deep fried Mac and cheese balls might be the best thing they do, Chipotle ranch on the side (cue Homer Simpson drool) read more

I'm a decent fan of The Yard in the Market Square. We go for happy hours and brunch for time to time. Honestly, we have either a great experience or an awful experience each time so it's really a toss up when we go which is why we don't try it as often. The drink specials are pretty good. They have a nice beer selection and the food menu had a lot of options for lunch, dinner, and brunch. You really can get something different each time you come when it comes to food and drinks. We decided to try this location in hopes that we would have a better experience but we were sadly disappointed. We sat out down and we waited about 10 minutes for someone to even notice we hadn't been waited on. It was a huge deal but I was super thirsty and just wanted a water. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it look a while to come out for it to us be two of us. The place was crowded at all. That wasn't even the issue. I have no problem waiting if the food is good but it was terrible. My waffle was burnt and hard as a rock. The chicken was burnt as well. I asked for a new one because it was so hard that couldn't eat it. They just brought out new waffles same chicken and no apology. I just picked at it and ate what i could. read more

My boyfriend and I went here one evening, mainly in the search of a good burger! I never had their burgers before and wanted to try something different off the menu. My boyfriend and I both ordered The Yard Burger, just your basic burger with an added bonus of bacon and a garlic aioli. The burger was good, but we both felt like it was a little dry. We did ask for no pink in our order, so it may be a result of that. We also ordered the loaded quesadilla and this did not disappoint! It was a fairly big starter and would be great to share with others. I'll definitely return for the quesadilla again! read more

Nice menu selection. Nice portion sizes too. Wouldn't recommend this place for anyone on a diet I ordered the impossible burger, I guess no restaurants can carry that brand anymore because it was bought out. Of course the burger I got wasn't as good, but it was still decent. The sandwiches all come with chips and tomato soup, up charges range from $1.50-$3.50, so you're pretty much looking at a $20 grilled cheese sandwich. However, they are ginormous & the flavor is pretty good! read more

A bar and grill ambience. Service was good, had an attentive waiter. The menu is quite unique; absolutely the most variations on a grilled cheese you are likely to ever see. I tried the Philly cheesesteak which was delicious. All grilled cheeses come with a cup of tomato soup and kettle chips both of which were also good. We tried the poutine fries as an appetizer; first time I've ever had poutine so I have no reference but they were tasty. My wife had the hamburger which she says was average. All in all, good place for a quick bite and some beer (they have over 40 on tap). Mostly bar type food with a couple of salad options. read more

Stopped off Robinson exit to eat before a concert. Never heard of. Server was sufficient. Atmosphere was a cool concept. Our food arrived quickly (but add on salads came out with the entrees. Kinda weird) Pepper Jack burger (bbq pull pork on it) and Everyday Truffilin flatbread. Caesar salad and dried fruit salad. The food was great though. Burger bun was . Salads were cold and crisp. I definitely would return to this location. Thx read more

Love the grilled cheese sandwiches here. The toast is so good! The tomato soup is thick and more like a dip for the chips! Will be back

Came here for the first time and ordered takeout during Covid-19. We ordered the Mac Balls appetizer, the Pepper Jack Bauer burger with waffle fries, and the Pittsburgh Steak Salad. Total came out to approximately $40. What's Hot - Quality. Hubby and I ordered our meats with some pink in the middle, which was good. My steak was nicely seasoned- a touch of saltiness and tender. When I opened the container that contained my steak, there was a small puddle of juice inside. Of course I drank it (haha) and it was pretty good. Their waffle fries are sprinkled with some sort of cheese, which is toasted on the fries. When you bite into their waffle fries, you can taste the difference. It's pretty yummy and different. I haven't come across many restaurants that have cheese seasoned waffle fries. Their mac balls appetizer is delicious. Their chipotle dipping sauce has a nice spicy kick to it, which hubby and I love! Their mac balls appetizer are also sprinkled with parmesan cheese, which adds a nice flavor. Soft and gooey and not too breaded. I'm not a fan of overly breaded fried food, which this isn't. - Take away. They labeled each of our take away containers with the food item, which was helpful and much appreciated. I don't like opening every single container to figure out what's in them. The steak, fries, and fried egg in my salad were in their own individual container (ie: egg was in its own container, steak in its own container, and fries in its own container), which was also great. Helped keep things organized and not messy. - Service. Food was ready and waiting when we arrived, which was great. There were about 6 tables outside and only 1 of their indoor tables was taken when we arrived to pick up our food. During this time of Covid-19, I saw their outdoor staff wear face masks, as well. - Portions. With the exception of sparse veggie toppings in my salad, their portions are pretty good. It was enough to make us full, but not stuffed. - Menu variety. Not bad! There are salads, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese chicken sandwiches, desserts, and sides. There appears to be something for everyone. I'm not certain whether this place is vegan friendly, though, so make sure to ask if that's an issue for you. - Location. Pretty convenient. There are many other shops and restaurants in this area, which helps if you've got other things to do. What's Not - Salad didn't come with many toppings. It was one single thin slice of red onion, 1-2 small grape tomatoes that were cut up, and a few slices of cucumber. For a salad, it would have been nice to have more veggies/toppings. But that's just me. I don't like my salads sparse. - Take away. Their fries don't hold up well in their take away, so be aware. Slightly soggy. - Price. There seems to be an uncharge for many things, which I'm not a fan. For example, if you want waffle fries with your burger instead of chips, it'll be extra $1-$2. On the one hand, during this time of Covid-19, it kind of makes sense as restaurants are trying to stay in business. On the other hand, just be aware that there are a lot of options where they may be an upcharge. Final Answer Pretty good. Am willing to come back, but may not be at the top of my list. read more

Good concept, bad execution. Two sandwiches, two sides, and a cocktail came to $57. The tomato soup was so sour it was insipid. Our server, Sydney, never came back to check on us. My sandwich, Raising Ched (2 burger patties and macaroni on Texas Toast), desperately needed Ranch dressing, and my water was empty the whole meal. The high-top tables were so jammed together that we kept touching the parties next to us. The restaurant was freezing and the bathroom smelled so badly of urine that it actually nauseated me. I don't see the appeal of this place and don't intend to return. read more

The food is very good and the wait staff was excellent. The cooks were not attentive to the ticket and I didn't get what I ordered. I was in town with a buddy for a football game and had visited the yard about 7 years ago and wanted to check it out again. Went mid afternoon on Sunday after the Pirates game towards the end of an away Steelers game so it was not extremely busy. Love all the gourmet grilled cheeses that they off. I went with the simply jack which is just 4 different cheese on a grilled cheese. It's pretty basic but really good. I subbed tater tots for fries and Mac and cheese for the tomato soup. It was all very good. They also have a wide variety of beer on tap. Overall the experience was great and we had really good service. Will go back the next time I'm in Pittsburg. read more

I had high hopes but was not impressed. Everything .. beverages and food is so overpriced. I inquired about getting a half of a sandwich since it was available on the menu and of course less $ than the whole sandwich and was told by the bartender "we aren't offering half sandwiches tonight" Really? The sandwich had a different name but was basically a "steak hoagie". So patrons are forced to spend more if you want to eat? Business must be hurting - was surprised at this response. If my friend didn't talk me into it I would have left right then and there. We ordered the "whole" steak to split and it was like a steak em!? $15.00 for a steak em? The portion size was like a half a sandwich too!! Looking around the place - not many were eating - only drinking and now I know why. During happy hour bottled domestics are $7.00 a bottle. There are so many other places where you get more bang for your buck. I don't mind spending $ for good quality food but this was pretty bad. I accompanied a friend who was looking to have a business meeting & future events at the restaurant... we are so glad we scoped it out first. I was going to give only 1 star but the bartenders were nice so I added 1 more star for them. read more

So I decided to eat some grilled cheese and soup. They have ALL kinds of "fancy" grilled Cheese sandwiches with soup and beer. This us a cool place to drink, watch tv and eat comfort food. The place is modern with TVs everywhere and has a central bar. It's a casual atmosphere. I ordered the "Fresh Prince" sangwich with chicken, cheese and some veggies. With all the grease, they should call it the "Dirty Prince " ... ahem. My sandwich was good, big, greasy, and had decent home made potato chips. My tomato soup was good too. Afterwards, It weighs in your stomach like a brick. This is a decent place to get cheesey comfort food and beer. I'd give it 3.5 stars. read more

Ate there and ordered the Walking Ched. I can usually eat a lot, but this sandwich was very challenging to eat fully. The sandwhich was pretty good. The burgers were nice and it was very cheesy. I like the food here, but my review is about the service. I had a view of the kitchen from my seat, and could see our waiter and another employee feeding each other spoonfuls of mac & cheese in a romantic way. They were wiping their faces with their hands, and then serving drinks, without washing or sanitizing. Our waiter carried our drinks by the rim of the glass. I am not immunocompromised, so I just made sure to drink from the side he wasn't touching. I didn't say anything because I didn't want him to spit in my replacement drink, but there may be some people here who would like to know that they are not concerned with spreading germs in this place. read more

Ehhh probably wouldn't visit again. It's wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. Confusion at the beginning getting a table. They were not even busy. Staff just seems like they could use a little more training. How about some blinds on the front windows. Sun was blinding everyone. Had to use menu to block sun. Waitress was nice. House chips were burnt and nasty...see picture. The grilled cheese was alright. Got the Yinz Guys Hungry?, wasn't anything great....just a sandwich I could easily make at home. The soup was the best part of the meal for sure, was really good. Decent beer selection. Bathrooms were very far in the back of restaurant. Not a huge deal but you could get lost going back there! read more

Came here for a client happy hour and dinner and I loved it! Everything about the Yard was the perfect bar-y pub happy hour place. The interior was warm, festive, and spacious. We ordered many appetizers: all the fries, fried mac and cheese balls, and buffalo chicken dip. I really liked everything, but the mac and cheese balls and especially the sauce they came with were absolutely outstanding. All the food looked great, and I was torn between the blackened chicken salads or grilled cheese - I'm so glad I went with one of the infamous grilled cheeses! I ordered the 'Shrooms, and the caramelized onions and mushrooms were out-of-this-world when paired with the melty cheese and freshly buttered bread. I loved dipping it in the tomato soup as well. I wanted to get some veggies in, so I subbed the chips out for the veggies of the day, which were broccoli. I did not miss out because of all the apps we had, but the chips looked delightful as well. Overall a great meal and great prices! read more

We came for the first time back in March (from Cincinnati) over St. Patrick's Day weekend for a hockey game. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel. It was packed. Our server was awesome, even gave us free shot glasses. The food was delicious. We went back 2 weeks ago for a weekend away. Went back to this restaurant and the food was still amazing. Our server and the manager on duty were even better. My husband ordered a shot of alcohol they had run out of. So they went to another restaurant and bought a bottle from them just so he could have this shot. What an above and beyond move.
