Straight up, there should be a book called "How to Run a Successful Operation in Pittsburgh" and there should be a picture of this place on the cover, along with a case study. Always packed, always impressive array of beer (one of the best breweries in region, IMO), and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. The site is so vast, there's never a shortage of seating, you just need to do a little bit of exploration to find a spot, but there's fun in that. Still trying to get to the upper command level - might need to head there during non-peak hours. Oh, I forgot to mention that each day/week there are a handful of beers and drinks that are super reasonably discounted - incredibly appreciated in the economic hellscape that is 2025. read more

I have always been a fan of Grist House. One of my favorite Pittsburgh breweries if I'm being honest. The Millvale location is amazing, so I had to go check out the newish Grist House Command. First off, awesome spot. Absolutely massive. Great views, plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. I liked the double bar set up, made grabbing a beer decently speedy. Beers were tasty as always, huge selection to choose from. One of the few Pittsburgh breweries that have a solid sour selection. Unfortunately, the food was absolutely terrible (details below): - Fresh Tortilla Chips: looks like a 10 year old sprinkled cheddar cheese over a pile of chips and microwaved it for a minute. This entire dish was a massive greasy congealed mess. The fact that they even serve this makes no sense. - Big Pretzel: the pretzel itself was actually really tasty, but the beer cheese was nasty. Terrible texture and extremely grainy. Tastes like someone dumped saw dust into this. Please find a new beer cheese recipe. - Command Style Dog: honestly not bad.... was it worth $7.50? Absolutely not. - Millvale Style Dog: has potential, but the chili is odd. The bun was mush before I even took my first bite. Overall, I'd give this place a 5/5 if it weren't for the food. I absolutely love Grist House, but someone needs to come in and fix the food menu asap. read more

This place seems fun outside in the summer time! I enjoyed the deck area, probably wouldn't go back to watch a game but overall it was nice and clean. Make sure you go to the designated ordering spots for beer which could be a little complicated if you're alone at a table. The food was much better than expected for the price. I met a group for an early evening happy hour. We lucked out with blues skies on a warm summer day. We could see the downtown skyline from a distance while seated outside. I ordered cider from the bar and then went to the kitchen to order a burger and fries. The orders arrived relatively quick. I was told to time a few minutes and come back to the kitchen to pick up my food. Burgers and fries are the best. If you have not been, I recommend getting what you want and find a seat outside. First visit to this Grist House. The parking is funky here. We followed the signs up to the building and found ourselves in a traffic jam of cars cruising the area for the very limited parking spots. We then saw a shuttle bus come up and drop folks off, so we followed it and found that there is a lower lot after the entrance (at least from the way we came). We were able to easily park there and hop in the bus when it returned. Upstairs the space is huge, but our group of 6 found a table to sit at. The place can get loud and there were a lot of people that brought their small children. The views from outside were great and the air is impressive. I liked that they actually serve food here. We weren't sure what to expect portion wise from the burger, we found it to be slider sized but very thick. We each ordered a burger and split fries. The burgers were small but filling. The fries were good. They had a decent tap list, but the line to be served was very long when we were there. It's an interesting venue and worth a visit. read more

What a great spot to spend a beautiful day! This place offers different atmospheres to enjoy, whether you want to sit inside or take advantage of the outdoor area, bring your dog, when the weather is nice. Today was gorgeous for early March, so the outdoor section was open and it made the experience even better. The beer list is incredible, with a wide variety of styles to explore. I highly recommend the tasting option, which includes 5-ounce pours of up to five different varietals--a great way to sample the range and find your favorite. I enjoyed the house lager and the fruitful sours. Lindsay was our server and she was courteous. Her recommendations for the tasting made it easier to navigate such a great selection. The food menu leans more toward casual fare like hot dogs, hamburgers, and salads rather than elaborate dishes. I ordered a hot dog and fries. It was simple but tasty, and the order was ready in about 15 minutes, which felt reasonable given how busy it was. Inside, classic rock was playing, adding to the relaxed brewery atmosphere. The outdoor view will likely get even better as more greenery grows in around the space. Overall, it's a great place to relax, explore a strong beer list, and enjoy friendly service. We were really impressed when we first walked in, but we left disappointed by the way we were treated by one of the employees. We chose this spot specifically because it presents itself as family friendly, and, before visiting, we reviewed the house rules listed on the website. We had three adults supervising one two-year-old at all times, she stayed with us in a high chair at the table. There was no running, climbing, or unsafe behavior. At one point, while we were playing peek-a-boo with her, she loudly squealed happily for less than a minute intermittently. A young female employee approached our table and told us--while I was literally mid-sentence correcting her to use her inside voice--we would need to move to the patio "if she continue[d] because of the noise." The interaction felt especially unnecessary given that earlier, when she cried while we were waiting for food, no one said anything. What made the interaction feel worse was that it occurred very soon after the only adult male in our group had left for a sales appointment. The timing and tone of the interaction made us feel singled out and uncomfortable. We didn't stay much longer and didn't purchase anything further. I completely understand that businesses need to maintain a comfortable environment for all guests, and if there are expectations around children needing to remain nearly silent indoors, that may be worth just considering an adults-only atmosphere. However, happy toddler noises for a brief moment in a loud and crowded brewery marketed as family friendly did not seem unreasonable to us. We live just minutes away and had been excited to become regular customers when we first arrived and were very impressed by our drinks and the atmosphere. The tail end of our experience was especially disappointing and we left with a subpar impression. I'm sharing this feedback because the interaction genuinely made us feel unwelcome, despite being attentive, respectful patrons who were following the posted rules. We considered bringing our pup for the patio, but we were unsure if he would bark, so we decided not to bring him as well. I also wanted to mention that we noticed responses to Google reviews often encourage customers to reach out directly by email with concerns, so we felt this was the most polite and constructive way to provide feedback rather than leaving a public review first. It's been two weeks since the email I sent, to the brewery and I've heard nothing back. We also would like to mention that there are no vegetarian options on the menu beyond salad, hot pretzels, and French fries, despite there being many brands of offering vegetarian hot dogs and burgers. read more

Parking can be a little confusing with multiple lots but luckily we caught someone as they were leaving and we were able to be fairly close to the front door. I love the original Grist in Millvalle, so I was excited to visit their new location at the former Nike missle base in Oakdale. The beer selection was impressive. They kept some signs from the Nike missile site, which is very cool. Besides the main floor, there are 2 rooftop places to sit outside. The food is very good. Although the text message said my food would be ready in 20 minutes, it was closer to 5 minutes. We went on a Friday night and it was packed. It was hard to find a parking spot and a table. Excellent destination. This is a really nice space serving a wide range of beer styles. The food menu is somewhat limited, but it is sufficient. I especially appreciated the house made pickles, which show up on the house salad and can also be ordered individually. In terms of the location, it's somewhat hard to get to but offers some great views of the city. In terms of the beer, I was very much impressed by the wide range of available styles and the quality of every beer I tried. One detail to note is that It's not very vegetarian friendly. The menu is focussed on hot dogs and smash burgers, and there really aren't any vegetarian friendly versions of either. My Beer Meet Up group went to Gristhouse Command Wednesday night. It was my first time. The space was great. You could see the Nike Installation "radome" from miles away. This place was huge! While there I decide to try food from the snack shack. Got the basic burger, which was perfect and a co-goer shared fries (which they had malt vinegar for!). This new spot is amazing-exactly what the South Hills needed. The inside is beautiful with tons of seating, multiple bars, and future event spaces. They had burgers, hot dogs, fries, salads, and pretzels at the snack bar. They had a TON of sauces to pick from. The beer cheese for the pretzel had a little kick and was delicious. The pretzel was a deep fried pretzel and was delicious. They have THREE levels of deck with STUNNING views. You can see all the way to downtown. This spot is dog friendly on the patio and family friendly. There is a nice parking lot out front and extra parking down the hill where they will have a shuttle. This building is just incredible on its own - from gorgeous views of a far away downtown Pittsburgh to the three, YES THREE, decks outside and the large indoor space, this place was PACKED and it still was an incredible time. Parking lot is not large, so they do have a shuttle service that runs from a lot below the hill. Multiple places to order Beers so the lines never took too long. Food seem to be a scan to order from an app, or you can order at the food window and then pick up when ready. We particularly didn't eat, but the food we saw looked amazing. We really enjoyed our experience here at Grist House Command! My friend and I came here on a weekend night. It was very busy, but didn't feel overly crowded because of the amount of open space outside. Inside was pretty packed but we were able to get our drinks and food pretty quickly. Staff was really friendly and their food was excellent too! We had to park in the overflow lot, which was fine because the shuttle came frequently. New Brewery Opening soon ... !!! This place opened several years ago as the remote location of Grist House. It had its own Yelp page, but for some reason the page was merged with the regular Grist House page in Millvale along with my old photos and reviews. In short, Grist House purchased this old Cold War, Army Base, Missile Command several years ago. They opened it to sell takeout packs of beer for a while, but closed sometime during the pandemic. Fast forward to present day. The place has been completely remodeled and is about to open a taproom and restaurant here very soon (target set for Labor Day). The outside space is incredible, perched at the top of a mountain with views of the surrounding area. I haven't been inside yet, but I have seen lots of photos, and it looks fantastic. I am looking forward to opening day. I wanna have a beer on their rooftop deck overlooking Pittsburgh. Speaking of the view, there is a huge radar installation on the property that looks like a giant golf ball. I cannot wait till opening day ... Cheers! read more

The view here is totally unmatched and the beer selection is what you've come to know and love from Grist House. We experienced excellent service, views, and turnaround time on our orders for our first visit. We were quoted 20 mins for the food, but it ended up being ready in about 15. They have a pickup window if you don't have a designated table and also a QR code option if you do have a table. Where we were a bit disappointed was the food options, particularly the burgers and the chili. The burgers, at first glance, seem to be a phenomenal value until you realize it's a 3oz slider patty with no option to add an additional patty to bulk it up. I wasn't a fan of the chili at all, but it could be personal preference. Someone told me that it could be Cleveland style, but seasonings just reminded me of the holidays. I don't love nutmeg and/or cinnamon in my savory foods. The meat was also very finely ground and the texture completely threw us off. Beer is absolutely solid and I love and recommend it to anyone but the food menu seriously needs more variety and healthier options. Right now, the menu is heavily focused on burgers, hot dogs, cheese, fried appetizers, and rich sauces. If you want something lighter or more balanced, there are basically only two salads to choose from. The hot dogs themselves aren't fried, but the overall menu still feels extremely heavy and one-dimensional. Nearly every item is centered around greasy bar food with very few fresh or healthier alternatives. A modern brewery should offer more than just burgers and hot dogs. Adding grilled wraps, baked soft pretzels, fresh sandwiches, veggie options, turkey burgers, or lighter appetizers would make a huge difference. Even simple additions like grilled chicken wraps or healthier sides would help balance out the menu and appeal to a wider crowd. Right now, it feels like the food menu was designed with zero consideration for anyone trying to eat even moderately healthy. The brewery already has the atmosphere, service and drinks down -- now it just needs a food menu with more creativity, freshness, and balance. Will give 5 stars if food improves. read more

Love the Millvalle location and absolutely blown away by this new command center! There's a triple deck patio, with another one on the way, overlooking the view of beautiful tree tops and the city in the distance. There's a spacious indoor space, also several floors, with a bunch of tvs to watch sports, event space, a pool table, multiple bars, kitchen, and merch shop. They play into the history of the building by including historic documents throughout the space and a to-scale painting of missile on the wall, giving a perfect mix of honoring the past in a modern atmosphere. Service was quick, despite it being Grand Opening weekend and it packed with people. They have all the same delicious beers on tap as the Millvale location, along with a few new ones that released that day. I got the Berry Berry Shaman, a favorite of mine and really enjoyed the strawberry, blueberry, raspberry flavor. Can't wait to come back and try the food! read more

Maybe it's just not my thing. So take this with the grain of salt I've supplied! We saw that WTAE was broadcasting from here and thought it would be a great way to start a football night in Pittsburgh. Directions through WAZE got us there. Parking was a bit of a challenge. There was a sign that said they had a shuttle running in the parking lot, but we couldn't see the shuttle anywhere. We actually got a close spot and went on in. No host, no help in finding a seat. You do that on your own. You know what else you do on your own? Almost everything. Do you know what I wanted to do on my own? Nothing-which is why we chose to go out for dinner. But, we stayed-gave it a try. Menus-QR code on table tent. Food-bar food with very little room for alterations. Wait time for food-appropriate So you ask what did we have to do? I'll tell you! 1. QR code the menu 2. Order on-line (wifi???) We ordered one hamburger each (they are $6-7 sliders), a giant soft pretzel and a salad. 3. Pay on-line. Did not give an opportunity for a tip. Good-I wouldn't know how to tip myself. 4. Pick up food 5. Pick up utensils and napkins 6. Get water from the water station. Where's the water station-in front of the bathroom. We couldn't both go to get any of this, otherwise we would lose our table. Weird too-they don't have fountain drinks. Everything is in bottles or cans. Seems very wasteful. Bar was hoping. They certainly have plenty of bartenders. But, don't try to ask a question of anyone. We couldn't really find anyone to ask and the ones we did find didn't really want to be overly helpful. Like I said, maybe we aren't their demographic. So, we probably won't go back. I can do all that work at home and not have to pay and scream over everyone else. Large open seating areas in various rooms throughout the brewery, we found a table easily after just a few minute wait for someone to get up. Parking was difficult however and if you don't get a spot up by the brewery, you may have to park down the hill and take the shuttle so be prepared for that if it's hot or cold out. Plenty of places to stand if you don't want a table, especially outside on one of the 3 decks with amazing sprawling views. The beers were fantastic, we had a flight of 5 different styles of beer and they were all good. The stout was so good we bought two 4-packs to share with people back home. Will be encouraging all my local craft beer lovers to check this place out. We did try the different styles of hot dogs which were above average for brewery food, with yummy dips. Worth a try if you're hungry for sure. Overall, Grist house was an epic hang out spot and can't wait to come back again next trip to see what's on tap! read more

Nice place and cool atmosphere- unfortunately the staff has an pretentious attitude that permeates the place - new places go thru that with staff who think they are more important than the customers- also asked politely about NA beer options and was responded to like I was from another planet . I like to take clients to places like this but I don't drink alcohol but enjoy a good NA . Would not kill them to offer an NA option, like an Athletic or Ultra Zero . Not the sugary mocktails the push. Will most likely try it again but some courtesy training with their staff and a simple NA beer offering would be nice as well as encourage others to visit who are not drinkers but happy to spend money there on NA's and food. read more

This is a child's play zone with over 100 kids running around with iPads and heads phones. Couldn't go to the bathroom because there were 20 kids playing on the elevator riding it up and down. Parents come here to ignore there kids and let them run rapid as they drink beer. read more
