This is a top 5 brewery for me in Pittsburgh. They're very dedicated to the craft and make some great beers. I like that they have some cask beer on now and I know the tap lines are always clean. The historic post office building has been beautifully renovated into a comfortable and spacious taproom. There is street parking and a few spots on the left hand side and back of the building. They also do some fun events during the year like dark lager tap takeovers from other breweries around the state. They often have food trucks. Service is always great. They have a nice patio outside. They are not a dog-friendly spot so leave the pups at home this time!

Another fantastic time at old thunder - this time to watch the jazz band perform! Amazing atmosphere, new rotation of beers including a couple Oktoberfest brews, and great company!

Interior very pleasant and nicely done. Beer excellent. I had the 2 malt forward beers - a stout and I believe it was an English ale. Later very good and stout wonderfully smooth and delicious. Wish they did flights so I could try others easily. They do a half pour but I can only do 2 of those per visit! Parking a bit difficult even at an off time. Fellow patrons friendly. Bar tender knowledgeable and helpful. Sushi food truck outside delicious but pricey. All in all, definitely recommended.

I've been wanting to go to Old Thunder for so long, I'm excited I recently was able to check it out! It's a really cool spot in Blawnox. The building used to be a post office so it's cool to see the elements they kept. There's lots of seating inside and outside, and the decor is beautiful. They have a great selection of their own pours as well as some local drinks from Goodlander + Stateside. They don't serve food but they usually have a food truck + you can bring in your own food from neighboring restaurants! Overall, definitely will be back!

Old Thunder has been open a few years now and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed them yet. We don't go often but have gone a handful of times. First, the space. It is inside the old post office. They did a beautiful job fixing it up. I love when there is a variety of seating available. There is bar seating, tables of different sizes, a couch and some comfy chairs. You can even drink in the "postmaster's office" which is fun. I would caution that you may want to avoid the special events unless you are prepared to deal with some crazy crowds. It is right on the main drag in Blawnox. Parking can sometimes be a pain but not usually too bad. When the weather is nice there is a lot of outdoor seating available. They frequently have food trucks out front. If there isn't a special event typically you can find a place to sit pretty easily. One even we went to there was pretty much no open seating, people standing everywhere and long lines for beers. This can happen lots of places but just be prepared. They make some solid beers in a variety of styles. They typically have a good number of IPAs, which aren't my style. Then a few in the area of lager or Pilsner etc. We can find something to drink if we wind up here. However, typically we only seek it out when they do special releases and that is just because it's our preferred styles. They have put out a few really good barleywines, some tasty stouts and most recently a Wee Heavy. Follow their social media to see when something new gets released. We usually wind up with draft and bottles when they do. Old Thunder can definitely be a fun place to sit and enjoy or beer or meet up with a group to hang out.

Tried old thunder brewing for the first time this weekend. It was very crowded and difficult to find a seat at first, but they had the heaters on outside so people could stay warm! They have one large tv above the bar if you want to watch sports. They have a few less beer choices than other breweries, but there were two IPAs that we really enjoyed. And they have a large selection of to go beers, some extra ones that weren't on tap. They also sell merch and stickers (got to add a new sticker to my brewery sticker collection which is fun!). It seems like they keep their food truck calendar up to date as well, which is very helpful!

First time to visit Old Thunder. Interesting spot in Blawnox. They did a good job converting an old post office. Liked the layout of the place. Downside is no real dedicated parking. But there is a decent amount of street parking. Today was a busy day, I had to park a few blocks away. I wish I was hungry today when I went because the awesome Moonlit Burger patty wagon was there. I've liked most of the Old Thunder beers that I've tried. Today however I was only sampling the guest beers.

I really enjoy going to old thunder brewing whether it's for the beer or for one of the amazing food trucks they have all through the week! We had the smashery this visit and it was UNREAL good. Literally could eat 10 of those burgers then wash it down with a beer brewed on site! Service and ambiance are always great. Very clean!

New to me spot. Friendly servers, great drinks, nice patio out front, and TVs for the game. I love that they had options for non beer drinkers. They even had a Goodlander cocktail on tap, which was a delicious mojito. FYI - they also have rotating food trucks that come by, a cool option for food.

This was my favorite brewery in Pittsburgh! One of the owners took the time to talk to us about their beer and made us feel very welcome. I sampled 2 and took 1/2 a case home. The Brewery is located inside an old post office. Which was kind of confusing at first. But when you think about it, why would a post office have tables and umbrellas out front. If you are in the area give them a try delicious beer and I believe rotating food trucks. I heard about them from an article on fb. I definitely was not disappointed.

No dogs allowed. Laid back atmosphere. Outside seating available. Super high ceilings indoor and comfy chairs available. Stateside mixed canned cocktails available for non-beer drinkers. Service at the bar was attentive but not personalized as only 1 bartender available at the time we came. No flights available but they do half pours and also will let you do tastings at the bar with the bartender.

Good beer, really cute space. The brewery is in the old post office and it's huge. The largeness of the space didn't stop it from feeling cozy on a cold December night. There were tons of beers on the menu. A lot of IPAs. I'm not an IPA person, but I tried the Abnormal Beliefs - a brown ale - and it was delicious. There's usually a food truck outside and that's a bonus. Parking is a little tough, but I'm happy for a thriving business in Blawnox.

My girl friends and I came after four years of me wanting to come here. I love Gravel Grinder and live close to an OTB so heard of Dancing Gnome from that. Finally made our way there and well, make sure you do not bring young kids. My friend had an 18 month old with us and as she was BUYING a beer from them, the guy who worked there asked if she "could keep the screaming to a minimum." An eighteen month old!!! And Mother's Day is tomorrow, nice. He said that they had to draw a line somewhere and he wasn't kidding. The 18 month old was not running around screaming crying all day. We were outside having the kids play and when my friend was buying a beer he got a bit fussy and was told to keep it to a minimum. Needless to say, we will NOT be coming back. If you have small children, I would not suggest this place. Super disappointing. I've always hyped their beer and place up and now I can't support it. We ended up going to Grist House and it was a WAY better vibe and WAY busier...I wonder why. I should have known when their sign said no dogs allowed.

So have you seen that meme out on the InterT00bZ that's like "Hey let's go to that new beer place…read morethey have $27 warm hazy IPAs in the middle of a parking lot?" Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting at Velum. There was a lot to like and a lot to not like about this place, so I'll start with the bad and end on a positive note. First off, it's in an old brewery and it looks like a warehouse. I'm not sure if they still brew their own beers but it straight up looks like an old warehouse. I've seen abandoned warehouses that look less like a warehouse than Velum. Maybe some people like that vibe but I felt like the cops were going to bust in and shut the party down like a teen coming-of-age movie. The taproom is all the way in the back, and so are the bathrooms, so if you break the magic circle, prepare to get your steps in. There's no kitchen. They DO partner with a food truck but they're getting their own review. I paid $10 for an average cocktail and $8 for a 12 oz cider that frankly wasn't that great. Either better drinks or bigger drinks, please. And everything is community seating. I don't hate the idea but I didn't care for the vibe so when I found a smaller table my friend and I grabbed it and boarded it. With that being said, there was a lot to like too. First off, we were there for a pinball night, and they have a great selection of pinball tables there, both classic and modern. I really would have liked information on joining a pinball league, but that wasn't offered anywhere that I could find. Plus on that particular night it was $10 for all-you-can-play, so we definitely got our money's worth there. The staff that I did interact with were super nice. That goes a long way and saved this from being a worse review. And the place is dog friendly, which is always a huge plus for me. All in all, I had a decent night. But the question as always is if I'll go back. Unfortunately, probably not of my own accord. If there's another pinball event, I'll definitely go, but it's not going into my rotation of cool spots. Not every place is meant for me, and that's fine.
