Updating my review since its been several years. I have been to Hitchhiker multiple times. I never have an issue with street parking. It was winter so we were strictly indoors tonight but there is plenty of seating inside. There are multiple board games to grab and play. Hitchhiker has one of my favorite beers EVER- Bane of Existence. It is seriously SO good! Service is great and they typically have a food truck out front. You can check the website ahead of time. Hitchhiker can be a great option whether you are stopping in for a quick beer solo or hanging out with a group. They have tons of space, which is great. They usually have good music going. Service is formerly. They have a wide variety of beer on tap. Plus, hey they have beer ice cream. We stopped in recently on a few occasions. They did a couple of different infusion releases of Oreo Speedwagon, which is one of our favorite Hitchhiker beers. The first they did was Dirty O Speedwagon, with chocolate pudding and gummy worms. Then they did King Size Speedwagon which was conditioned on Halloween candy. Both were great and it's fun to try different versions of a beer you know and love. We also tried the beer ice cream with Oreo Speedwagon in it and topped with cookie crumbs. It was a tasty little treat to have something different. read more

Hitchhiker is the perfect place to come enjoy some innovative flavored beers with great company. Our friends routinely look for spaces to get together WITH the kids and Hitchhiker was more than accommodating. We ordered takeout from a local business that delivered to the brewery and were all able to sit together at huge wooden tables at the back of the restaurant. I really lucked out with this place! I was looking for a place to watch the Presidential debate...something that even something like Yelp is not good at searching for. I was walking around this part of town, and heard a loud political speech in here, so I just poked in. It looked like it wasn't a private event, so I saddled up to the bar. Long story short, the beers on tap were great. The bartender asked me if I was part of the political rally, I said no. I asked why he asked, the firs drink was free if you're part of the rally. I need to learn my lesson from Ghostbusters "if someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!" A few beers later, they did broadcast the debate with good sound! read more

The Hitchhiker location in Sharpsburg is huge inside. It never seems to be too crowded which is good. You have to find street parking, which doesn't seem to be a problem. They have a huge lot beside the building but they don't own it and the owners of the lot will tow you. They typically have food trucks. I will say that on the extremely hot summer days like yesterday when I visited it is warm inside as they have no AC. They had fans running but it is still warm. I should have known better than getting a flight because by the time I got to the third glass it had become somewhat warm. Now to the beer. If you like fruited sours, then Hitchhiker is your brewery. They always seem to have numerous on tap and are adventurous in the flavors. I typically don't drink them, but did try the PB&J beer because my son it had it last visit and enjoyed it. They typically have a big tap list with a little something for everyone. While I prefer hazy IPA's their offerings can be hit or miss for me. Some I really enjoy and some not so much. They are a good place to go with folks that have different tastes in beer because they have so much variety. read more

Great brewery! They have an awesome wide selection of beer options on tap, along with vodka slushies. I ordered the Press Project and Subsurface Raspberry Lime and Coconut Sours and loved them! They were both fruity, not filled with excess sugar, and refreshing. The brewery atmosphere is very casual, with both inside and outside patio space. They also have board games available to borrow and enjoy time with friends and family. It was a bit humid inside because they dont have air conditioning and our table was away from their giant fan. We were also disappointed the food truck didnt come one friday night due to a water break issue at the restaurant, but they had a menu of a nearby restaurant with food to get delivered. We love the beer from Hitchhikers and decided to try out the brewery closest to us. I am a huge fan of the selection of beers they have on tap here. They always seem to have great stouts and sours on tap which are my favorite beers. The area is also quite spacious ,and they keep it very accomodating for families. I have seen the community table completely lined up with parents with their infants just enjoying the brewery. They dont have alot of food available;however, they do have food carts station inside the brewery at certain times. We always check the website calendar for what food trucks and when they show up tpmake sure we can get a bite to eat with our brews. Its definitely one of our favorite breweries and we come back frequently to get to-go 4 packs of their beer. read more

I came here for the taco truck promo event - was invited so my experience was a bit different since we got a couple of free tacos and free chips and salsa I love that they have a food truck that changes up all the time. The inside of the brewery was spacious, lots of games to play, lots of seating. The outdoor patio is so nice- I loved it! The beer selection is large, 22+ beers to choose from. Lots of fun & funky flavors, summer flavors, sours, and unique beers! It was so fun trying them, the servers were extremely friendly and attentive Parking was rough because there is a gigantic lot next to the brewery that is actually for apartment parking. I went with my boyfriend and we drove around looking for parking on a street. We ended up parking on a street a few blocks away. Came back to a parking ticket. It was $15, no biggie but paying it was such a huge pain. They wouldn't let me pay it online after I tried to 2 times. After multiple phone calls, they said you have to pay parking tickets in person in Sharpsburg. This town seemer to be stuck in 1982 in that sense. Good experience overall, the parking ticket and that whole experience has made me a bit nervous to go back, despite having a good time. So be careful parking around there! read more

Impressive how Hitchhiker has adapted to the Pandemic. I was able to order online, then swing by to pick up my purchase. Hitchhiker is the first local brewery to produce the Black is Beautiful Imperial Stout. It's a delicious, roasty, chocolatey beer with a lot of flavor. Best of all, the proceeds go to Freshfest, a beer festival that promotes diversity. The staff was friendly and helpful, this was a safe and fun purchase. read more

With an open concept and converted garage feel this brewery is large enough to house many people including their larger than most bars, which I am a fan as that is my preferred area to sit. The bartenders/brewers have been polite and attentive enough that you usually do not wait too long for a pint or a refill. We have been here a few times and I have always found an agreeable beer. Some better than others, but still a decent selection. They have a TV but no cable. I am not sure of board games or other sources of entertainment. As per most breweries they usually have a food truck out front. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area just be prepared to get there in plenty of time before closing. This past time they were calling last call by 10:25, though they are open until 11. They were denying walking in patrons at 10:30 a drink. Love this place! Definitely one of the best breweries in the Burgh. Plenty of room and a nice outdoor space. Plenty of beer options to choose from and they have rotating food trucks outside. Staff is friendly and give good beer recommendations if you're not sure what to try. Great place to get together with friends or bigger groups. Parking isn't the best but rarely have trouble finding a spot--just don't park in the lot next to the building they don't own it and you will get towed. I ordered two sours. The "equal parts" and "the party in bedrock." "The party in bedrock" was a little too sweet for me, but I loved the fruity flavors in it. I liked "equal parts" a lot, though it does have a tea after taste. My boyfriend ordered two IPAs. The "how many planets" and the "one to one." I enjoyed the "how many planets" a lot because it was citrusy and super smooth. The brewery had a decent amount of indoor seating. We weren't able to enjoy the outside due to rain but it looked spacious with cute lights strung up. I have to commend them for staying open during a power outage... it was a little hot inside but all their ordering devices still worked and they still accepted cards! We were hoping to take some RGB beer home (it's a super smooth DIPA), but they were sold out. Definitely try this beer if they have it! It was our first time here, but we will definitely be back because of the atmosphere and large selection of beer! read more

The open, spacious brewery lends to a comfortable tasting environment, and the games and brewery equipment only adds to the charm of the place. They only had about 7 of their beers on tap today, but everyone in my group was able to find something that suited their tastes. There was a sour, a porter, and an IPA that we thoroughly enjoyed. We came here on a Saturday night around 930pm. It was a nice and warm night out and they were busy. They have only been open for two weeks the bartender said. There is street parking but it looks like on the side of their building you can park there too in a parking lot. We walked in and the bar was full. We squeezed in to get some drinks. My wife got their Ipa and I got a wheat beer called Trial by Fire. We both liked our beers. It's a good size for a brewery and a lot of open space. We found a spot along the wall to hang out until we found a place at the bar. They don't have a Tv in here yet to watch sports but they should have one soon the bartender said. The bar is very nice and big. It's a good spot to hang out. Out of all of the breweries that we have been too lately this looks like it's going to be a really good one. When we are in the area we will be coming back to see how they are once they have been open for a bit longer. read more

This review started at two stars and quickly redeemed to five stars. Here's why: We stopped in on Saturday and there was a Fall festival happening at the park just across the way from the brewery. It was non-stop busy the whole time we were there. However, when we first arrived we were able to get the last two open stools at the bar. There were 4-5 bartenders and it seemed to be going smoothly until... the bartender at our end waited on customers on either side of us and walked away without an acknowledgement. I called out but she didn't hear me. Another bartender did and took care of us. A few minutes later the girl who had overlooked us stopped by to apologize and let us know our first round was on her. It was definitely hectic and I can only imagine the stress of the job. All of the servers were super nice and in the end we were very pleased with the service. The brewery is really cool and I totally dig the layout. Industrial and welcoming at the same time. Also like that it's much roomier than most establishments of this kind. Lots of tables, side bars, stools, etc. Really great open floor plan. We didn't have food but the stuff coming out looked very appetizing. There are 15 pours of their own on the menu and we had 9 (shared of course). My favorite is Mashmellow which is a stout made with Count Chocula cereal and Leona's ice cream (some other goodies in there as well). Whole Pie is my second fave, pumpkin pie with graham crackers and more. All in all this was a fantastic experience at what I consider a top 2 Pittsburgh brewery (right up there with Draai Laag). Great brewery in a great space. Even when this space is crowded, it doesn't feel that way. I'm so glad Hitchhiker Brewing has expanded. I often found myself left wanting some of their brews that they frequently run out of at the Castle Shannon location. With this new and bigger facility, I'm hoping that will be less of an issue. And what a great location. Closer to several other breweries in the area and a perfect spot for a food truck to roll up for the night. I've never had a problem finding street parking within a few blocks. Congrats to Hitchhiker Brewing! I look forward to many more of their beers in my future. read more

More Beer! No Dilly Dilly! I had a great time with friends drinking at Hitchiker. Truthfully I went because Mr Bulgogi was there but I will be back for these delicious beers. Hitchhiker has a large open floor plan with lots of space with big long tables that invite you to stay a while. They have many different types of beers, cider, and even an amazing house root beer. They have Crowlers, growlers and mini growlers for take out of anything on tap. I'm an IPA lover and could not choose between Bane of Existence and The Barbarian both were beautifully hoppy, sharp, and flavorful. Cultured Creature: Blueberry was very easy to drink and refreshing. The Off Limits was too sour for me but my friends loved it. They also had a wall full of board games so we had a great time. I love this brewery; it is an awesome space, nice people, great beer, and usually a very nice time. Unfortunately after today, I will have to be more cautious when planning a visit to this location. There is not a single way to not sound terribly mean, but when did anyone decide having a toddler birthday party at a brewery was a great idea? I understand that most breweries are family friendly, and thats great. If you want to strap two kids on your chest and pretend you are having "Sunday Funday," knock yourself out. In my experience, the kids are usually well behaved and the parents are super considerate. Today brought that coexisting narrative to a screeching halt. There were two separate children's parties occurring this afternoon. Upon entry, we were greeted by shrieks from a sea of children running wild. I looked to my left- balloons, children and cupcakes. I looked to my right- there are 5 kids making high pitched screeches while running around two round tables. Meanwhile an "adult" chases them and encourages them to make more noise. While I was looking at the menu and about to order, a toddler crawled up on the barstool next to me. This was obviously just darling to her mother- because she let her proceed as if it were an approved jungle gym. That was a bit much for me to handle. Did my husband and I leave immediately? Yaaaasss. Did we go to nearby establishments that were not hosting romper room to buy drinks, cans, and merchandise? Yaaaassss. These families stretched the environment to make it fit their lifestyle and living situation to the point that I suspect it is going to affect future business at hitchhiker. We frequently entertain clients and friends from out of town at different breweries. I would have been utterly embarrassed to take a colleague to the mess I witnessed today. If I wanted to drink in chaos I would head to Dave & Busters or Chuck E. Cheese - at least they have prizes and better games. read more

I haven't tried many Hitchhiker brews over the years, and am glad that they have a location in Sharpsburg as it's closer to home for me. The building itself is fantastic, with plenty of seating and a bunch of open garage doors for a nice fall breeze. Will be interesting to stop here in the winter to see if the place is habitable with the higher ceilings and brick exterior. There weren't any TV's in here that I could see, so plan on being social with your friends! I only tried two of their drafts (which are $1 off during Happy Hour, 4-6pm) as they were higher ABV and I was driving, but both were fantastic. This included their Mashmellow (I was sold on Count Chocula) and 15th and Canal. I'm not a huge stout guy, but man was it good. Good enough for me to buy a 32oz can to go ($10, which I thought was reasonable, better deal if you buy 3). The barstaff wasn't overly friendly, but they were efficient. They were fairly busy for a Wednesday but I rarely had to wait. I look forward to my next visit here to try some of their other brews! read more

The bar has plenty of space, there are tons of tables, and it's wide open enough that you can stand around and not feel on top of one another. It's nothing fancy, but the industrial feel really works well for what they're going for. You can sit inside the main bar or in the room where they keep the brewing equipment. They do super cool and innovative brews. The next up is going to be for Halloween: they're incorporating Count Chocula cereal...I mean, come on!! Too fun! 10/10 would ago again. A few beers from Hitchhiker are on my all time favorites list. They are always releasing interesting beers, and they offer flights so you can sample a few without feeling pressured into drinking a full pint of something you might not like. The only downside is that some beers are limited, so you may find something you like and not be able to get it in the future. I get growlers if I do find one I'm into just to be safe. My favorites have been Here and There, Overplayed, and Like a Machine. Disclaimer: I'm an IPA lover. Some non-IPAs I've liked are Box of Colors (fruity pebbles flavor...as advertised), Milton the Toaster (SMORES stout!), and Whole Punch (they say it's lemon meringue, I say banana boat sunscreen in a good way). They have food trucks and post the schedule online as well as on Instagram. They offer a limited bar menu too. There's street parking and plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Hitchhiker was a great place to hangout. We went on a weekend around 730, they weren't fully busy but had a good bit of people there. Shortly after we arrived, a table opened up. We shared the table with others. It's a laid back environment. They had the nfl game on, Everyone was involved in watching. The tables are cool and so are the glasses. The space is big here too, easy to accommodate big groups. We parked in a lot just down the road. They had a food truck outside as well. They sold out completely of their food before we could get any. We drank the ipa beers. We tried Bane of Existence and Pinnacle of Nothing. Both really great and flavorful beers. Beautiful large, historic building with plenty of space. The bar was large and there were multiple family style tables. We were able to find a spot to sit even though they were hopping. The only downfall with an old building is the lack of AC and heat. We visited on an 80 degree day and it felt stale and humid inside but I'm sure they'll figure something out. The old skylights were neat. I love a microbrewery that offers a variety of sizes when ordering and a sampler option. 15th and canal was me favorite of the day.
