I have been to Hazel Grove twice now and I really like it. Both times were on Saturdays. I am still surprised by how easy it is to get parking and a nice table. They have games inside that you are welcome to bring outside. They do not have food but they do have food trucks that come. They have a nice beer selection. I really wanted to try the Pittsburgh Weather Hazy. It was just okay. At the bartenders recommendation, I tried the Robot Parade Hazy next. It was SO good! I ended up getting a 4 pack to take home. I will definitely be back!

This brewery has been open for 2 years and I finally got there. It has a great indoor/outdoor space. Allows well-behaved dogs and great people. The owners are there and talk to everyone. There are games and a selection of approximately 10 beers. The Brewed This Way (hazy ipa) was perfection and the sour (name I can't recall) was perfect for summer. Definitely a must stop if you're a craft beer connoisseur!

We drive past Hazel Grove literally every time we're in Pittsburgh (~5 times a year), but we finally made the stop on a recent trip back to get some beers to go! Hazel Grove is located right near Hazelwood, so the South Hills folks traveling into the city or directly to Oakland / South Side easy pass it on the drive. The space, from what we could see, is expansive enough, with a lovely outdoor beer garden. The weather was a little crummy when we stopped or else we would have explored more, but I imagine it's a fun hang in the spring and summertime. The indoor space was clean and neat, with welcoming and chill vibes. Their beer selection was fun, featuring a little bit of every varietal. I particularly loved the names of the beers - so witty, and fun to have a bit of Pittsburgh back in Philly when we ultimately enjoyed them. The prices were also reasonable for the quality and smaller brewery. I don't believe they serve food, but it does look like they often have food trucks, so a nice touch. Our favorites we enjoyed were the Pittsburgh Weather (again, 10/10 name), their hazy IPA, and Speedy Delivery (another 10/10), their Belgian wit. I would love to try more of their brews and hopefully enjoy a beer in their garden on a future visit! Thanks for being a welcome and convenient addition to the Pittsburgh beer scene!

I had been eying this place ever since they popped up on my Instagram feed. Finally, I was able to try with some friends. They have good beers that are reasonably priced. I love the fact that the back patio is enclosed and separated from the busy street. I'm excited to see all the food trucks that swing through! P.S. parking on the street was easy even though there is a small lot in front of the brewery.

New brewery in Hazlewood.  Bringing people together, while serving well-crafted beers to the local Hazelwood community.  Located in an old industrial building with a bright, colorful, plant-filled taproom.  Their indoor space is super nice, but they also have an outdoor area with tents!  They are a bring your own food brewery that also offers Food trucks!  Open Thursday through Sundays! Friendly staff with quick, good service!  Highly recommend adding them to your Pittsburgh brewery list.

This place was fantastic! First off, we are from Oregon and the hazy and IPAs did not disappoint. Additionally, the server was awesome. Gave us great recommendations for other places as well, but the beers out of this world.

I've been following Hazelgrovebeer since they first posted on Instagram to stay updated. This was our first visit to their new location, which opened recently in the area. If you know me, one of my goals for 2023 was to visit every single microbrewery in the Pittsburgh region. Since then, many more breweries have popped up, which is fantastic because it means we have even more places to explore. Enough about me--let's talk about Hazelgrovebeer. We pulled up and entered the building, which has a nice indoor area to relax and enjoy a beer. They also have an outdoor area with tents to shield you from the heat. I sampled both the hazy IPA and the Pittsburgh Weather Hazy Pale Ale, a name that couldn't be more fitting for Pittsburgh these days. The Pale Ale was awesome and quickly became my favorite. I also tried the Amber, which was different in a good way. I had a glass of the Hazy Pale Ale, and @winecraft had a glass of the Dry Apple Cider, which was extremely good. I really liked its taste--it's a go-to for me when it comes to apple cider. The people and the atmosphere were great. I can't wait to return; it's just outside the city, making it a perfect destination. Oh and I had to snag a 4 pack of the Pittsburgh weather for home consumption. Cheers!!

Great service and the food truck they had was awesome as well. Cool spot with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Bartenders were friendly and very helpful. I'll be back soon. Recommend for a chill brewery.

Nice beer selection and vibe. They let us bring our own food since they don't have a food menu (yet). Trivia night is fun as well!

My girl friends and I came after four years of me wanting to come here. I love Gravel Grinder and live close to an OTB so heard of Dancing Gnome from that. Finally made our way there and well, make sure you do not bring young kids. My friend had an 18 month old with us and as she was BUYING a beer from them, the guy who worked there asked if she "could keep the screaming to a minimum." An eighteen month old!!! And Mother's Day is tomorrow, nice. He said that they had to draw a line somewhere and he wasn't kidding. The 18 month old was not running around screaming crying all day. We were outside having the kids play and when my friend was buying a beer he got a bit fussy and was told to keep it to a minimum. Needless to say, we will NOT be coming back. If you have small children, I would not suggest this place. Super disappointing. I've always hyped their beer and place up and now I can't support it. We ended up going to Grist House and it was a WAY better vibe and WAY busier...I wonder why. I should have known when their sign said no dogs allowed.

The building itself was once the St. John the Baptist Church; in true Pittsburgh fashion, people restored and converted the original building to make it a functional restaurant. A note about the interior dining room: you can either sit on their dining side (which has larger tables) or the bar side (which has some booths but is primarily high tables and chairs). The menu has a good assortment of appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, and other entrées. They used to have both traditional pierogies as well as a "flavor of the week" option, although these days they seem to only serve the traditional ones. The menu is refreshed somewhat regularly, so over the years I've sampled salads, fish dishes, pasta dishes, and sandwiches. It's hard to have a "go to" order when it might disappear, but you'll likely find something good when you visit, given the range of options. (Currently, I'm a BIG fan of the Street Corn Arancini. Definitely give these a try while you can!) While the food won't necessarily knock your socks off, let's remember: this is the Church BREW Works. The beer and cocktail menus are definitely where it's at. According to Untappd their current beer menu includes an assortment of Belgian, Porter, Lager, Pilsner, IPA, and Stout style beers. I'm more of a cocktail person myself so I always sample something new when I dine here (again: the menu is refreshed regularly), and I have yet to be disappointed! Like I said at the start, this is one of those places that we try at least once. I'll still come here with friends for sure, but this is admittedly not an establishment that I'll go out of my way to visit. It's fine - not amazing, not bad, but fine.

So have you seen that meme out on the InterT00bZ that's like "Hey let's go to that new beer place…read morethey have $27 warm hazy IPAs in the middle of a parking lot?" Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting at Velum. There was a lot to like and a lot to not like about this place, so I'll start with the bad and end on a positive note. First off, it's in an old brewery and it looks like a warehouse. I'm not sure if they still brew their own beers but it straight up looks like an old warehouse. I've seen abandoned warehouses that look less like a warehouse than Velum. Maybe some people like that vibe but I felt like the cops were going to bust in and shut the party down like a teen coming-of-age movie. The taproom is all the way in the back, and so are the bathrooms, so if you break the magic circle, prepare to get your steps in. There's no kitchen. They DO partner with a food truck but they're getting their own review. I paid $10 for an average cocktail and $8 for a 12 oz cider that frankly wasn't that great. Either better drinks or bigger drinks, please. And everything is community seating. I don't hate the idea but I didn't care for the vibe so when I found a smaller table my friend and I grabbed it and boarded it. With that being said, there was a lot to like too. First off, we were there for a pinball night, and they have a great selection of pinball tables there, both classic and modern. I really would have liked information on joining a pinball league, but that wasn't offered anywhere that I could find. Plus on that particular night it was $10 for all-you-can-play, so we definitely got our money's worth there. The staff that I did interact with were super nice. That goes a long way and saved this from being a worse review. And the place is dog friendly, which is always a huge plus for me. All in all, I had a decent night. But the question as always is if I'll go back. Unfortunately, probably not of my own accord. If there's another pinball event, I'll definitely go, but it's not going into my rotation of cool spots. Not every place is meant for me, and that's fine.
