So full disclosure, I've never eaten at a Burgatory. I typically don't get a burger out but have had a gift card for forever and decided to use it. My youngest son and I ventured off to Burgatory. We arrived around 5:00 on a Thursday. It wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly. He had a Cookie Monster milkshake and I had an IC Light draft. He opted for the basic burger and I had a bacon burger. We split an order of fries and our burgers came with chips. I had asked for bbq sauce on my burger (which I think they forgot). Burger was very tasty and cooked as requested. Chips were good. I didn't care for the fries. Not the flavor I was expecting. My son enjoyed his milkshake and burger. Our server was attentive and friendly. Restaurant appeared clean. Two burgers, fries, and a milkshake was $42.00. I don't typically go out for burgers but I would return to Burgatory. Customizable burgers is always preferred for me when going to a burger joint, so I dig this place a lot. You have the option of ordering straight from the menu and have their specialty burgers or you can customize to your liking and they have plenty of options to choose from. Even American Wagyu! Also their in-house potato chips are pretty solid. I haven't had anything like that in a long time, so it was nice to get that along with my burger vs fries. Staff was very accommodating with our large group. Got one of the orders wrong unfortunately, but that happens with big parties. Stellar job still other than that one mistake. Food tasted great to be honest. A bit messy, but that's what you get for a custom burger. Plenty of TV's in the restaurant if you're looking to watch a sports game since it has that American sports bar kind of vibe. Superbowl was just about to start when we went in, so we got to watch that a bit. Go sports! I think the restaurant and food were pretty good. The meat on the very large bun was so thin, dried out, it was almost inedible. I may as well have just had the large bun, no meat as the piece of meat was as thin as cardboard as had no taste. The burgers are just so good! My burger cooked to medium just like I asked and so flavorful and juicy. I love the flavor of the fries too, they compliment perfectly. I stopped by Burgatory with a friend on a hot summer day to grab a milkshake. We went straight to the bar, and after looking over all the tempting options, I decided on the Nutella Crunch shake. It was rich and sweet, with distinct Nutella and Crunch bar flavors. I liked that they left small bits of chocolate in the shake, which added a nice texture. A pleasant surprise was the extra tin they gave us with the leftover shake that didn't fit in the glass. The amount in the tin was about half the size of the milkshake glass! Overall I definitely got more than I was expecting and will definitely go back to try the other milkshake flavors. read more

Visited the Burgatory location in Pittsburgh near Robinson Mall. It's located in strip mall by Walmart and few other food spots. Plenty free parking. Easy to find in the plaza. Let me say I really wanted a salad but when in Burgatory...a burger is a must. Our waiter was cool. She explained the whole menu and offered suggestions. We tried the Wicked Wings. So if you like slightly spicy wings with a dry rub with drizzle of honey then this is the wing for you. The heat sneaks up on you. They were really good wings. Cooked just right with right amount of crispness. So good that we got a 2nd order of the wings. Very good. I ordered the Rye Do Not Both. It's their take on an Old Fashioned but with Bulliet Rye and Bulliet Straight Bourbon. I must admit the drink was just okay. I was expecting it to be a bit stronger. I love my Whiskeys and even more my Bourbons being a KY girl born and raised. I would try something else. The sangria was a popular drink but I wanted something more. I completed the custom burger form. I could have went with a classic on the menu but opted not. I did the brioche bun, hormone free beef, white American cheese, dill pickles, romaine, and tomatoes with salt and herb fries and think naughty sauce on the side. He said the naughty sauce was like big Mac sauce. It was not. Tasted nothing like it. The burger was a little dry. They make the patty so thick I think that impacts how moist the burger turns out. Food and milkshakes are simply outstanding! They have a few sandwiches that you can pick from the menu, but their thing is the pad and pencils in the middle of the table to create your own. The decore and theme is that of purgatory, so lots of references to sins and commandments around. It's well done and not too tacky or crude. Well done. Service is good but not awesome, though could be because I was there shortly after lunch rush time. My unsweetened tea refill came back as sweet tea, which isn't bad except we didn't see the waitress again until the food was finished -- gf took the tea and gave me her water (she also had a cider). I was just in town for a short while but recommended Burgatory straight away to someone I met who flew in and was looking for a place to eat. I'll call this place a solid win if you're in the. I would highly recommend a reservations on the weekend! This place gets packed fast. Our server Ethan was fast and alert. He made sure we had water and was ready to check out. We each ordered a variety of food and milkshakes. The place gets loud so it would be an intimate date night place. I highly suggest getting a milkshake. A small is enough , although you do get the extra mix when you get the $8 but it's not much. So a small is enough! I would recommend BYOBurger. You get to add all your fixings. read more

I came here to eat on Tuesday and Usually have a good experience. We sat on there covered outdoor patio which was nice since it was still warm. The waiter was great she took care of the table and made sure we got our food on time. Food wise the fries were unsalted weren't that good. I also got tomatoes on my burger when I did not order tomatoes and the appetizers fries we had did not come with bacon on them and the bacon was cold when it was brought to the table as a side. Usually don't have these issues when I eat at the one downtown. I'd come back just wish it was a better experience. read more

We ordered the Phat Phattys veggie burger and another "create your own" with ground chicken patty burger. The burgers were cooked well and also kept ready as promised. However, our instructions were not followed correctly. We have clearly instructed to pack the chips separately and it was not. The chips were thrown in the same box where the burger was Ickes. We had specifically requested this to avoid the chips from getting soggy. The instructions were ignored. To top it all, when I went to pick up the order, I specifically asked if the chips were packed separately as instructed and they confirmed it was. This reconfirmation is not merely aggravating but very disappointing coming from a well know name like Burgatory. Service IS part of the order. Following instructions IS part of the order. Stayed at a hotel near the airport, but needed dinner before our early flight the next morning. Found a perfect place for families and good food. We have our two young children, so we needed to make sure this place would be kid friendly. Definitely so! Kids menu is great, not just chicken tenders and Mac/cheese. I got myself a chicken sandwich, my husband got a burger, and my daughter got a hotdog. The food was amazing and came out quickly. All of the waitstaff was very friendly and very personable. We loved sitting in the enclosed patio to catch the planes going by and get some of the sun peaking behind the clouds. Couldn't leave without their famous milkshakes, so so yummy! read more

Burgatory was one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in Pittsburgh! So naturally, when I flew into PIT to come for a visit, Burgatory was our first stop. We got there around 3:45-4 on a Monday, and there were maybe 5 other tables. It took more than 45 minutes for our food! We were a little annoyed, as staff were just gathering and chatting by the computers instead of attending to tables. Our server didn't even come to our table until we were finished eating to ask how things were. This was a little disappointing to us. My husband and I frequented the Cranberry and McCandless locations, and we never had this issue there! The food, however, is the reason for the stars! My oh my I love these burgers. They're cooked to perfection, with fresh toppings piled high. I always opt to build my own and get the same combo nearly every time (especially since we don't live in Pittsburgh anymore!): beef burger with brioche bun, Diablo dust(spicy and so good!), bbq, Mayo, cucumbers, and some sort of greens. It has never let me down! We also love that they started serving smaller shakes! The big ones are great, but I can literally make a meal out of just that. The quality and taste of the food will keep me coming back to Burgatory every time I am visiting the area! read more

Decided to try out Burgatory based on a recommendation. Perhaps my expectations were set too high. I tried the elk custom burger and chocolate shake. I wasn't too fond of either. It appears they don't use real ice cream but the frozen kind that comes out of a machine? Not sure, but it was definitely on the lower half of shakes that I have had. The elk burger was pretty flavorless but that could be due to my choices made. And finally, I have never been at a place where they decide on their own that they will round up your bill and not even mention they did it. Imagine how much more $ they get by doing this. I just reduced the tip for my "missing" change. $26 for a burger and shake seems a bit extreme, especially when I didn't even enjoy it and only ate a small portion of it. This was my first time to any Burgatory, and we had a good time. The rest of my party did the "create your own burger" option, and all were thrilled with the results. I had the Elk burger and, while the flavor was great, the bacon jam made the whole thing too mushy. The burger also came with homemade potato chips which were tasty, but too small in both size and portion, in my opinion. The overall ambience of the place was great, and our server was perfect.
