My friend and I are both people of color and we personally felt mistreated by this restaurant. I am wary of labeling things as prejudice but I truly cannot think of any other reason our waiter treated us like this especially seeing how differently she interacted with other tables. We were served by a waiter named Cass. She was pretty rude while taking our orders but I thought I was just overthinking. We then waited for over 50 minutes for 2 burgers while some tables that were seated after us got their food first/at the same time as us. Our waiter was also checking up and chatting with other tables and never ONCE came to our table to check on us. By the time our burgers and fries got to us, they were COMPLETELY COLD. But at this point I was so hungry and tired of waiting I didn't even care to ask for a new one. I understand how hard service jobs are which is why I tried giving her the benefit of doubt but the situation just got progressively worse. As the check came, I saw that my waiter charged me separately for fries despite me getting the $12 short stack meal deal that comes with them included. She also charged me 50 cents for onions despite it being included in the 4 toppings. I politely pointed this out the fact I was still charged for fries, to which she says it's because I asked for "extra pickles." ???????? I was like why would that disqualify me from the deal......To which she said "Um did you not ask for extra pickles? I said that you can't have any modifications." She then proceeded to stare at me blankly for 7 seconds, which was extremely creepy and unsettling. I then asked for the manager who was nice and did help me remove the extra charge but overall this was a horrible experience. If you are a person of color I would not recommend coming here as there is a chance you will not feel welcomed. This is the first time I haven't left a tip in years. read more

I've been to this restaurant twice on two separate visits to the area. Both times were good and my waitresses were friendly. The food was good and plentiful. My only bad note is pretty much on me not them, although I often wonder why restaurants don't warn people or take things off the menu do to this Cyclospora stuff going around. I just saw on the news that Guacamole is at high risk due to its ingredients like tomatoes, peppers and onions and most of all cilantro which as a very high risk. Again...my fault since I ordered it as an add on/extra side. I didn't know there was an issue till today when they gave a warning. But again...maybe stop serving it. Big Basic Burgers. That's pretty much how I'd sum it up. I work nearby and have eaten her for lunch a couple times now. I got a different build-your-own burger each time. Both were large, satisfying, and completely ordinary. Same for the fries; lots of them, tasty, but not particularly distinctive. The inside has a sports bar kind of vibe with some large TVs on the walls, decor, and server attire. Service was friendly both times; servers all seemed likely to be Pitt students. Wait was just 10-15 minutes for my burger. All in all, a step above many of the fast food joints in Oakland but not necessarily something I'd come back for unless I feel a strong need for a large burger. read more

Really cool concept, we loved the build your own burger. You get a menu and small pencils at your table and you fill in your options of burger/protein, toppings, sauces and sides. Not very vegetarian friendly. First off, with the half priced burgers deal, the veggie patty is still listed at full price. Once, when getting loaded fries, I specified "no bacon" on my fries, yet there was still bacon on my fries. I was able to get a new plate of fries thankfully. I once ordered a basket of fries with a cup of cheese and there was bacon mixed into my side of cheese. Very unprofessional and lazy workers! It's snowing here in Pittsburgh and I'd prefer to order ahead and pick my food up but with these inconsiderate workers they hire and let's not mention rude because you knew you picked that phone up and spoke to a customer and then nothing! It is now 3:52 and that phone is still of the hook! I've been calling and calling to place and order due to that fact my card was compromised so this is my only alternative to avoid waiting 20mins in the cold for a burger when there are people on the clock! What's the point of offering over the phone ordering if you don't want to do your job. Things like this hurt an establishment not only are they missing out on money they are rude! I love their burgers but the girls they have working are the worst! Not all but about two and for the phone to off the hook for hours speaks volumes about this establishment. Terrible! They offer so many options to be able to customize exactly the sandwich you're looking for (including veggie burger choices!), and they also have a pretty good draft list. While we went for lunch, the restaurant also has a pretty good happy hour as well! I'm sad the location near my apartment closed, but at least the Oakland location is still around. Located right off the University of Pittsburgh campus in the heart of all the action, it's definitely got an upbeat atmosphere that make it a great place to meet up, socialize, and hang out. For appetizers/sides, we ordered curly fries, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks. These I'd consider pretty average (3/5), with nothing in the recipe that added any distinctive wow factor when it comes to taste. The mozzarella sticks were underwhelming with regards to quality, and were covered with parmesan cheese, which detracted from the taste you're supposed to get from the mozzarella cheese. For meals, we had the burger and chicken sandwich. These were both a solid 4.5/5 and very good. I liked that you can fully customize them with toppings, cheese, and buns, and they were cooked/prepared to perfection. I haven't been to a Stack'd in a couple years but it was right by our errands in Oakland so we stopped in for lunch. I like how many premium toppings like mushrooms and onions are free toppings and not just lettuce and tomato. I also got peanut butter for free while their competition charges $1 for that. I splurged for the Bison burger and still didn't break the bank. A couple notes on the restaurant though... We were seated in the entryway on the lower level and had peoples butts right at head level to our right which was rather uncomfortable. If the wall was solid it would've been better. Nut allergy warning: Peanut butter is an optional ingredient in their toppings list and they also have a peanut butter shake option. For those reasons, dining in can be a risk with a nut allergy. I didn't order food here, but my partner did. Dropped in on a Friday evening around 7:30PM. It was packed! Small line of 3-4 groups outside that grew to 5-7 groups while I watched. There isn't any waiting room inside except for a small entryway, so you will be waiting in the cold if you come at a bad time of the year. Inside are about 20 tables for groups of 2-4, so you may get lucky as a group of 2. My beer came relatively quickly, although not topped off. Prices are normal for a sports bar with $3.50-$4 for light beers and $7-8 for regional craft beers. I tasted my partner's chicken tenders and fries and was disappointed. I'm pretty sure the tenders had more breading than meat, and the fries were soggy and tasteless. The OMFG sauce they used for the wings was tangy and had some kick, almost reminding me of a habanero sauce. Silverware also wasn't brought out until requested, which I guess is fine for a burger place but not having napkins was pretty annoying too. They are not available by default (only ketchup on the table). The burgers were well reviewed by other members of our group, but I didn't get to try them. However, I did note that they will not customize to medium rare, which is also disappointing. Lastly, a member of our party ordered a basket of fries for $6 and honestly it wasn't much more than the standard add-on quantity of fries. Not worth at all. The service isn't up to par like it use to be back in 2021, although it's ran by University Of Pittsburgh the lack of initiative by its employees really says alot and shows a lot. The staff aren't fully trained and some of them look like they don't even want to work there anymore. They lack motivation and clear communication, there's no reason why the waiter should be constantly called out for ignoring their table and making proper accommodations The atmosphere doesn't give out positive vibes it's very dull and way to loud, half the time you have to constantly get your waiters attentions to be attentive to your needs which can be a 10min wait The waiters don't have name tags like their supposed too - but expect you tip 18% for poor service The waiters are constantly coming to your tables every 6 - 7 minutes like as if they're trying to rush you out the door/table when you just arrived The food is ok it's not great by the time your food gets to your table it's warm or half cold it's not fresh and hot like it supposed to be. I have had food where I have had to send it back because the food was still raw and not cooked thoroughly, their silverware isn't always clean. The lack of cleaning/hygiene amongst the restaurant is another big problem the tables are usually covered in food the tables get half spray and wiped and they wipe the food on the floor - that's very disgusting as a restaurant you should not do that - that's a health code violation If we're being brutally honest the restaurant has a problem with consistent hygiene procedures and maintaining proper cleanliness During the winter they do not take the proper steps in keeping the restaurant warm and making sure their guests are warm - THEY HAVE THE AC ON DURING THE WINTER INSTEAD OF THE HEAT. I have had to tell 3 employees to turn the heat on and it became an issue. As a restaurant it is your responsibility to maintain proper temperatures based on weather conditions - includes salting outside the restaurant during the winter and as needed per snow days.... OSHA VIOLATION It is also the restaurants responsibility to have a positive attitude and create a positive atmosphere this place not provided that. It's time to retrain all the staff or fire everyone and shut the place down read more

My family and I loved Stacked. We went the other night before my family from out of town went home. We needed a nice place that worked for people from 13-77. Everyone loved creating their own burgers. I was so happy they had a pretzel bun. The meat was so juicy and tender. I loved the blue cheese, spinach and tomato on it. I decided to try something different besides a burger so I ordered the chicken tenders thinking how could anyone mess up chicken tenders but I was wrong they fried the tenders way to hard for my liking just to crispy and hardly any flavor at all. But the chipotle barbecue sauce made up for the lack of taste plus the onion rings and sweet potatoes fries was pretty good so the meal wasn't a total bust. I got the create your own burger with cheese, bacon, peanut butter, and habanero jelly on a sesame bun with curly fries and HOMEMADE ranch!! So good. Ranch was to die for. We had a fun night with a group of 10 at Stackd. They didn't take reservations, but with a 20/25 min wait, we were able to get seated. They were able to get us a table for 6 and then later join in a table for 4. That worked out well, because our entire group wasn't present when we were seated anyway. The service was good and all. My main reason for the 3 is the food. The nachos were just ok and my impossible burger was also just ok. I heard later that they also had a veggie burger, which I probably should've tried instead. You kind of work through a checklist and build your own burger. It was kinda ok. These days there are so many places serving all sorts of fancy burgers, that what I built didn't seem very interesting. Maybe I didn't do it right. Idk... But overall, the burger was just fine. Next time is look more at the pre-made options and the in-house veggie burger. read more

Came here during UPitt move-in after getting our daughter settled. We scored a nice outdoor table right against the building, so we were partially shaded on this blistering hot day, Server was pleasant and attentive. I ordered a burger and tots while my wife and daughter shared a salad and a quesadilla. The ordering process involves and checklist style two-sided card where you pick what you want and check the boxes along the way...guess it helps streamline the calls to the kitchen. The double stacked burger I ordered was a bit overcooked to my liking (I asked for medium rare), the Kaiser bun was a bit stale (flaking apart) and the grilled onion were not very caramelized...so it was an average burger at best. The tots however, were cooked perfectly crisp.
