Chicken panini with mixed veg
Kristen E.

Hubby and I use Sunny Jim's as a reliable post-church lunch when we want American bar food and sports on the telly. We recently returned to catch the Wimbledon men's final. Looking back at the photos I've uploaded, it appears that I've ordered the chicken panini with mixed vegetables before. The veg are always over cooked but flavored well. However, this time the panini was a revelation: I found it smoky, complex, and interesting. "That's what I thought the first time I saw you," replied my husband, when I described what I was tasting. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we've been together for more than two decades.

Smoked Pork and Pierogis

Sunny Jim's is the kind of dive bar you want in your neighborhood. Smoked pork and pierogies hit the spot, the vibe was easy and low key, and it just feels like a place you want to hang around in. Pretty solid all the way through. I'm glad it's right down the road because I'll definitely be back.

Wine. Happy hour $5.

Solid 4 stars. IPA fish was very crisp, French fries fresh and very crisp, burger had fresh veggies. Meatball casserole was more a spaghetti as it didn't seem baked. Service was great (short blonde girl). Dining room ambiance was pretty. Bar area has very limited seating for happy hour. Overall, this was a positive, solid experience and we will return.

We've been meaning to go to Sunny Jim's for ages. Friends told us about their zucchini fries. If you like zucchini, the zucchini fries are wonderful! The breading is very light and the zucchini is good. The burgers/sandwiches we got there were also good. Service was very good until near the end. We'll definitely go back!

Inside steak hoagie

Decent food at okay prices. This place is extremely popular in the area, and I can understand why, but the food isn't really something worth writing home about. I ordered online on Uber Eats and got to try the cheesesteak/hoagie and a side of coleslaw. You get to order one of many sides for free along with your order of an entree or a sandwich. A few of the potential side options include soup (for an up charge), cottage cheese, apple sauce, fries, chips, baked potatoes, vegetables, salad, and so on. I thought the coleslaw was quite good. Creamy, vibrant, and just overall very satisfying. Getting it as a free side was nice. It was very creamy but a bit sweet as well (also some carrots). The steak hoagie was pretty substandard. It did not contain much cheese, and the little bit of cheese it did have was not very flavorful. They also did not have mushrooms. The bread was thick and not that toasty. The steak was chewy and relatively flavorless. Price was okay for the portion. All in all, the food wasn't that great, but it wasn't bad either. I thought they made a great coleslaw and the portion was fantastic for that slaw! Definitely recommend that. But, the hoagie itself wasn't that flavorful.

We stopped for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was busy but not so much that we had to wait to be seated. We were greeted and seated right away. I ordered the Sunny burger with fries. Everything came out quickly and looked and tasted great. Everything from our waitress to food and getting and paying the check went perfectly and our meal was good at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back.

I had been there several years ago with the same friend for a hangover curing breakfast of biscuits and Italian sausage gravy, and I remembered how good that was. This time I went to try their house beers, and I was again very happy. The Brewery is a cozy little place tucked in a side street, and the interior is worn but clean and comfortable. The staff are super friendly and efficient, but I should note that it wasn't very busy at the time. In any event, our excellent beers never ran dry, and when we were ready to eat the service was quick. We started with some pickle dip (yum!). My buddy then ordered the black and blue burger - one of his favorites. It's actually a triple patty deal with some hot sausage in the mix. It was messy as hell, but he really enjoyed it. I went with the Buffalo mac-n-cheese. It was very tasty and had a nice kick from the spicy Buffalo chicken. Overall it was a nice experience, and I'll definitely be back. One word of caution though: The Brewery is moving across the street into the old post office building. I'm not sure exactly when this is planned, but I hear it will be soon. The new building is being gutted and refit with everything needed, and will include an outdoor area that can accommodate live music. I'm really happy that they are doing well enough to grow, and can't wait to check out the new place when it opens.

We saw several staff members during that time, which made it a bit confusing...we weren't sure if we were in the wrong section or if there was a different process we should have followed. Sadly, we did not have a chance to try anything. We ended up leaving without being served. I understand that things can get busy, but even a quick acknowledgment would have made a difference. Just sharing this in hopes it helps improve the experience for future customers.

It's been a great addition to the Mt Nebo area that has always lacked a modern, good eats menu. This location has a small arcade upstairs that is nice to entertain the kids for a bit. I enjoyed the jerk chicken cheesesteak - a fun twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak. Throw fries are dusted with a seasoning that is good and palatable for children. I ordered my daughter a kids cheeseburger with fries and the fries came dusted on her plate too. I didn't eat the crab Rangoon nachos but they were a favorite at our table. My husband and I ate one dinner here. The menu listed salads, wings, sandwiches, pizzas, entrees such as pasta and steak, in-house beers, cocktails, mocktails, etcetera. Our waitress performed her job well. Here is what we ate: Crab rangoon nachos - 4 stars - Wonton chips were covered in sweet chili glaze, large chunks of imitation crab meat (which my husband liked), green onion, and black sesame seeds. Apricot bourbon salmon - 4 stars - The salmon was cooked nicely and was juicy and flavorful. For sides, the mixed vegetables had a bit too much oil, and the brussels sprouts could use more flavor. Chicken cordon bleu sandwich - 4 stars - My husband said that the chicken was slightly overfried and hard, but the flavors from the arugula, onions, prosciutto, cheese, and dijonaise were good. He liked the side of crispy fries. The total price was $54 plus tax and tip.

You instantly feel welcome. It's a small place - only about 5 tables & 6 or so bar stools. Good ole fashioned diner breakfast food - egg dishes, a few bowl bfasts, pancakes, french toast, and a popular breakfast sandwich. My husband got the latter w/ sausage, egg, & thick American cheese on Mancini's bread - and enjoyed it. I got the "Home Fries Supreme" bowl with over easy eggs. It was good - not great - with a ton of potatoes, thick American cheese, grilled onion, and a lot of crumbled bacon. My sis-in-law got french toast and said it was good - but her usual order of pancakes and scrambled eggs is better. You can modify your order however you like, it seems. The wait staff is so friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves. The cook even popped out to take care of 2 of his favorite regulars who won't pass by, apparently, without their bacon (see the pic). We'll definitely be back, though probably when it's warmer --- cuz yowza is it cold when the door opens for people entering/exiting.
