    Hot Thighs

Rupe's Roadhouse popped into my head when an old friend wanted to meet for dinner and a few beers. My friend is a meat and potatoes, shot and a beer, sort of guy so this fit the bill perfectly. On a Friday Pens Hockey night in Pittsburgh, this place gets jammed. We bellied up to the bar that was filled to capacity. The bartenders were pretty good about servicing everyone although a little on the slow side. No matter since the two women were friendly and we were busy catching up. Their beer selection is pretty decent and I tried a Vanilla Porter on draft that was just tapped and really fresh. It was so good. My friend ordered up some Hot Thighs to start. These are chicken thighs with garlic and sauce on them. He really enjoyed them and had enough to take home and share with his brother, who also really loved them. He ordered the gyro and said it was very tasty. I had the Reuben that came served with a big knife plunged into it - must be a culinary trend here because that happened to me recently at another place with a cheesesteak. Don't kill the sandwiches, people! I opted for fries instead of chips and was glad I did. The fries were fresh and hot. This is a super cozy local tavern with decent food and friendly patrons. We were impressed that the owner/manager came around to ask how the meal was even though it was so crowded. He seems to really be trying to build the food side of his business and has recently added Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday brunch/breakfast from 9-12, which I may have to try (they need to post a menu for breakfast online).

I've been driving Camp Horne Road regularly, (or as regularly as PennDot will let me) for almost five years now. There used to be a little hole in the wall called Mark's on one of the turns. The only reason I remember it was called Mark's was because my boss at the times name was Mark. There wasn't much else memorable about the sad building. But now, WOW. They have done so much to revamp that place. New exterior, new entrance, and although I can't speak to the old interior, this is really nice! They have a nice sized bar, and plenty of high tops and low seaters. Tv's abound, but it's not super noisy. In traditional Pittsburgh style, memorabilia and jerseys are framed throughout the dining room. Rupe's had a Groupon going, and for $10 for $20, I decided to treat my parents one night. Dad is a creature of habit, and got the fish and chips. Mom got a pepperoni flatbread, and I tried the gyro bowl. So. Much. Food. Dads fish was baked, really well, just the way he likes it. Mom shared her flatbread with everyone, and I thought it was really good! Crisp and cheesy. What more can you ask for? And my gyro bowl? Amazing. Lettuce, fries, tomato, and more lamb than I knew what to do with. I had to eat the whole thing. (Shame, shame) Service was good, considering it was happy hour, and we weren't consuming alcohol. We didn't need to ask for refills, and I'm pretty sure everyone working in the bar that night came and brought us napkins and asked how our meals were. Nice! They just launched a new Groupon, and you bet I'm gonna get another one! Happy Eating!

Super awesome place ! Hidden in an unsuspecting part of town you wouldn't expect something as nice to be in. Looks great inside and greatest genuine hospitality I've received from a restaurant and it's owners in a while. Made the visit feel super personal, DEF worth you're way out of your path to stop by!

Quaint, friendly, welcoming little roadhouse bar on a main thorough-way. Affordable, great bar food, awesome deals for Happy Hour.

The standout for me was the side of potatoes which had a delicious herb seasoning on the outside with a super crisp exterior and a perfectly cooked potato center that you can tell was minimally processed. The bread was also exceptionally fresh, offering the perfect balance of being both crisp and pillowy which would pair well with the restaurant's wide variety of sandwich options, as illustrated by the menu on the wall. The interior was clean and inviting, with simple, tasteful décor. There was free Wi-Fi and even a chess set available, making it a nice place to relax or catch up with a friend. The atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, and the staff were warm and welcoming which made the experience feel personal.

Ida's is open for dining in and takeout from the morning to late afternoon, and it also offers catering. My husband and I ate one lunch here. As soon as we entered the restaurant, the cashier kindly greeted us. He took our order and payment. Some indoor tables and chairs were available. We waited less than 20 minutes for our foods to be made. The owner smiled and checked in on us twice--first to give us an update about when our foods would be ready, and then to make sure that we enjoyed the foods. At the end of our meal, she thanked us and said goodbye. Here are my ratings for our foods: Fish Sandwich - 4.5 stars - The menu said that this sandwich would have a "9' Hoagie Roll," but it actually had a round bun. Totally fine! The fried haddock was a big size and was nicely meaty and flaky. I had asked for the menu toppings but no cheese, and it came out with only packets of tartar sauce. The owner noticed and promptly brought me lettuce and tomato. Chicken-Bacon-Ranch Sandwich - 4 stars - My husband ate this sandwich. He liked the buttery brioche bun, crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, onion, melted American cheese, and ranch dressing. He commented that the chicken patty seemed as if it had been frozen previously. He had requested no tomato, but the cashier put tomato on the receipt, so the cook put tomato on the sandwich. He picked off the tomato and gave it to me. He did like this sandwich and ate all of it. Small French Fries - 4.5 stars - I had ordered the fries, but the cook put them on my husband's platter, so we switched platters. The fries were shoestring and were nicely seasoned. The total price for these three foods and one bottle of water was $32 plus tax and tip.

I went with the spicy Italian on their homemade bun and my friend got the turkey pesto panini. We both enjoyed the soup and she devoured her sandwich. Unfortunately, I didn't love mine as much as I had hoped. The sandwich was cold, which isn't necessarily a problem, but the bun itself was chilled, dense, soft white bread. After picking the sandwich up a couple of times, the bun became wrinkled and slightly off-putting. I'm sure there are a lot of people who love these buns, but it wasn't the combo for me. I'd try something on sourdough or focaccia next time.
